Marc-Antoine Barrois Ganymede Extrait (Quentin Bisch) 2023 + The Soul Of Immortelle Giveaway

When Karl Topham was at Esxence 2023 he noted that one of the trends was fragrance brands exploring perfume and outer space. This has been a theme at Marc-Antoine Barrois Paris in collaboration with perfumer extraordinaire Quentin Bisch of Givaudan since the brand’s inception. 2016’s B683 (B683’s name hints at Le Petit Prince and the boy traveler from Asteroid B-612), 2019’s 3x Fragrance Foundation award-winning Ganymede (largest moon on Jupiter) and 2022 Encelade, the sixth largest moon on Saturn which received a Fragrance Foundation award (Russia) all take us to other worlds.-Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

Marc-Antoine Barrois and Quentin Bisch

Quentin Bisch and Marc-Antoine Barrois @olivieryoan

Before we get to Video Contributor Steven Gavrielatos’s video review, I asked Givaudan Perfumer Quentin Bisch what makes Marc-Antoine Barrois Ganymede Extrait different from the original.  “Extrait takes a look at the specificity, the soul of Ganymede, that is immortelle (everlasting flower). I wanted to rebalance the whole formula around it, making it the point around which everything would gravitate. The smell of this material is one of my favorites when found in natural landscapes like ocean coasts or south sun-bathed pine tree forests and sandy dunes. A particularly unique scent reminiscent of spices like cumin, green resinous undertones, boozy warm facets and warm rocks heated by the sun.

I overdosed immortelle absolue to give together with myrrh resinoide, incense and moss a “maquis “twist. Marc-Antoine Barrois Ganymede Extrait is a variation of the original Ganymede “sous le soleil exactement (as per the song by Serge Gainsbourg). A raw straight forward elixir of resinous, woody and liquor-like facets. It is a warmer, spicier, darker take on Ganymede.”-Quentin Bisch

Notes: Everlasting flower, Incense, Myrrh, Safraleine ™ (Givaudan molecule that is spicy, warm, with hints of tobacco and leather) and Akigalawood© (Givaudan proprietary molecule with a scent profile similar to patchouli,  with nuances of pepper and agarwood and Mandarin

I would like to own the extrait version to see how wonderful this fragrance would be, thank you

  • LATONYA GIPSON-BOWMAN says:

From the article by Michelyn, and detailed video by Steven…this fragrance sounds really nice and with it being an Extrait it’s definitely going to shine. I would love to have this in my collection.

  • Wow, I had no idea that this was being released. Such a pleasant surprise. After watching Steven’s video, I am excited to try this one which he described one of the best releases of the year with excellent performance. Thanks to Quentin Bisch’s intro, I now understand that the extrait version has amped up Immortelle which should provide a rich, luxurious sensation, giving a nod to the original Ganymede. USA

  • Thank you Quentin Bisch for all this wonderful information about Ganymede Extrait. I own Ganymede and didn’t think I would even sample the extrait but based on you explaining the overdose of immortelle and the marquis twist. I am heading over to Indigo Perfumery to order a sample. Thank you Michelyn and Steven and especially Indigo. Hot Miami here

  • Giovannip says:

From the article it sound like this is going to be a very strong smell of immortelle absolue wich should smeel amazing, Steven’s review made it sound amazing with the notes of Incense, immortelle, and Safran. Both the article and review really make this sound amazing, I mean Steven said it’s one of the best releases of the year.

  • Bonnie Beck says:

I love the original Ganymede and am dying to try the Extrait. Marc mentions the overdose of immortelle, a favorite note. Steven mentioned the perfumer Quentin Bisch, another favorite. Sounds like my perfect scent!

I just recently smelled the original Ganymede and instantly loved it. From reading the article I see they rebalanced the note of immortelle so that everything else gravitates around it and like Steven said, it gives it a honey/tobacco touch. You can never go wrong with a honey/tobacco mix by way of the immortelle note. I also appreciate a long lasting fragrance. Cheers from NJ, USA.

  • ianbradleyandrews says:

I love QBs work and would to smell this. The review makes it sound so complex. I’d love to win. I live in Indiana.

  • Russell Johnson III says:

I purchased Ganymede as a blind buy after watching Steven’s review of it. It is now a “top shelf” fragrance that I wear as often as I can, sometimes not even needing a reason other than feeling the need for lift off before I head out the door. Steven’s description about the top notes of myrhh and resins with that heart of succulent immortelle makes me think of James Bond at a Michelyn (see what I did there?) star restaurant. Quentin Bisch has a talent for taking the heart of a fragrance and developing nuances around it. The explosion of immortelle in Extrait with its orbit of myrhh, incense, and Safraleine will take this fragrance boldly, and warmly, where only the original has gone before.

  • Amy Clews says:

Thanks for the article intresting read. The fragrance has some beautiful notes and it be extrait version be sure the performance is out of this world.

  • Joel Franco says:

Wow! I got a decant of the original and it’s a bomb no I imagine this one must be nuclear

  • sstory8919 says:

I would love to smell a version on Ganymede balanced around the scent of Immortelle. The way Quinten Bisch describes the smell of immortelle in the introduction has me very intrigued. Steven’s video review, calling it one of the best releases of the year, has me excited to get a sample of Ganymede Extrait

  • Khameron Epperson says:

My friend just brought back a sample of Ganymede from France and let me have it. I loved it from the first sniff. It’s definitely unique!

  • After loving Ganymed, I am intrigued by how thus would smell like. I am interested in winning a bottle!!! In Stevens review I learned that it has immortel and herbs that I like in my fragrances. Quentin is a super talented performer.

    Thanks

  • AleksCipri says:

Marc-Antoine Barrois is one of my favorite brands. I adore Ganymede so I was naturally very interested in sampling the extrait version. I first saw Steven’s review today and I must agree that extrait is different than the original. It doesn’t have such pronounced mineral notes (which I adore btw) but is more focused on immortelle. I can relate the two fragrances but they are definitely quite different and I think it is for sure not redundant to own both. Reading here that the perfumer’s intention was actually to focus on immortelle and bust this note completely makes sense and aligns with what I experienced sampling it. I am a bit sad that mineral notes are not that present in the extrait, but I also absolutely love immortelle (as well as safran and myrrh and both notes are very strong here) so the extrait composition is also full bottle worthy for me. I’m from Illinois, US. Of course I am also following you on instagram (alex_supernova).

  • John Jones says:

Once again Steven knocks it out of the park! No words can describe how amazing the original is so i can only imagine how this new extrait is going to be. Can’t wait to get my nose on it!

  • The Mad Fragger says:

The original is already heaven in a bottle, but this extrait sounds like the bar has definitively been raised. Love your channel Steven, always great reviews.

  • Both Steve and Quentin mentioned how this is a more powerful version of the original Ganymede. They both mentioned how the immortale note remained prominent as in the original. The extrait version as more depth and richness. It didn’t sway much from the original version aside from making it richer and longer lasting along with being more resinous!

  • liquidasset77 says:

Such a powerful and robust sundrenched accord. Smells like a wealthy Egyptologists. a great companion scent to a suumer evening.. Michigan USA

  • castlemicro says:

Hello from Florida, and thank you to Quentin for the introduction and Steven for the review! I’m following your Instagram from my account @castlemicro.

I’ve tried Ganymede, and its mineralic nuances are certainly very unique. It was great to learn more about the materials Quentin Bisch used to amp the scent up and add a “maquis twist.” I also enjoyed hearing Steven’s thoughts on the scent. He definitely emphasized Ganymede Extrait’s richness and longevity. I’d love to give it a try.

  • Ganymede Extrait has taken the original to the next level with a much more rich and darker component. I was lucky to get a chance on smelling the original so I cannot wait for the extrait version.
    Florida.

  • This is the draw I am most excited about as original Ganymede is probably the best fragrance I have smelled since last year. Quentin Bisch says immortelle was the soul of original Ganymede, hence, the main focus is on this note in Ganymede. Myrrh also adds richness to it as Steven says. Saffron adds a suede leather vibe to it and Steven finds the projection of extrait to be about the same as original edp while extrait has impressive longevity. It’s a strong fragrance and is more suited to a cold weather. I am in US.

  • Thuya Soe says:

I never tried this brand and I want to have it very much. The bottle is so beautiful and the smell seems amazing

  • As Mr. Bisch mentioned in the introduction, immortelle is a fascinating note that truly stands out from any other flower. I had never really thought of it smelling like hot rocks warmed by the sun but now that he planted that seed in my mind, I can’t stop thinking about it and completely agree. It has this radiance about it that is incomparable. I have not tried the original Ganymede but have certainly heard it praised by legions of fans. I like warm and spicy fragrances more than anything so I was happy to see Mr. Bisch say that this was a darker and spicier take on the original. I am a huge fan of resins and myrrh as well, both of which are key components in this formula according to both the article and video. Steven spoke quite a bit about the Safralene component, commenting that it really gives you that luxurious leathery spice of saffron. So tantalizing! Steven certainly appears to love it, claiming it’s one of the top releases of the year. It has to be impressive, given the number of things he gets to sample and review. Best of luck to everyone. I live in NC, USA and I do follow on Instagram (IG: thearronq).

  • My thoughts on Quentin Bisch’s introduction was interesting as he the difference from original Ganymede to Ganymede Extrait is amplify immortelle flower rebalanced to center stage the beautiful note. Stevens review is the best fragrance reviewer and his review of Ganymede Extrait is no exception. He explains the richness, balsamic and resins seductive immortelle. Thank you Indigo Perfumery and Cafleurebon for the giveaway. Greetings from the USA. Following:@cafleurebonoffical from @calicalnurse.

Love Quentin Bisch and Steven’s Review I own 2 Q B fragrances the original Ganymede is In my top 5 for life at this moment. I would love a free bottle of the Extrait and I will have a bottle of this fragrance regardless

  • So you know Stephen is an English teacher when he uses mellifluous to describe a scent. I would love to get my nose on this one since I know Ganymede original is sort of fragrance royalty. Might be on my list for my husband for Christmas. In maryland.

  • From the intro I learned how the extrait differs from the original. From the video I got that immortelle was the star of the show. US

  • I love immortelle, so Michelyn’s intro made Ganymede Extrait sound great. And sueded leather is my favorite kind of leather note, so Steven’s description of the rich and smooth leather note in this has me hooked as well. I would love to win a bottle! I’m in MN, USA and follow you on instagram @ra7chel

  • Ken White says:

I’m pleasantly surprised by the release of this fragrance. Steven’s video got me excited about trying it, as he described it as one of the best releases of the year with outstanding performance. Quentin Bisch’s introduction enlightened me about the amplified Immortelle in the extrait version, which promises a lavish and indulgent experience while paying homage to the original Ganymede. New Jersey, USA

  • Very interested in this one as I have smelled the original. Also have Bois Imperial on my radar also perfumed by Quentin Bisch..

  • ThatMulattoDude says:

If Steven were a salesman, he’d definitely have me buying at least a sample. The notes of this offering sound great and I do tend towards darker, resinous takes currently in my scent journey. I appreciate Quentin’s description of the inspiration and purpose of this scent, though I haven’t gotten my nose on Immortelle as a note yet. I agree it is a must-smell fragrance. I’d really like to add this to my collection. Blessings from Virginia, USA! Appreciate the generosity of the giveaway.

Marc-Antoine Barrois is a house I don’t have any fragrance of.
I wanted to get a recant of Ganymede original, but with summer at full speed with personal obligations, I haven’t get the time to order the decant.

I am not familiar with immortelle and considering Quentin Bisch to be a great perfumer, I would like to get my hands on Ganymede Extrait.

From the video, I like the presentation, the sprayer is wonderful, and it looks like a potent fragrance suited for fall and winter.

  • Regis Monkton says:

I’m intrigued to try “Ganymede Extrait” when Steven mentions the rich, resinous incense, when he says that it’s an amazing fragrance, and also when he says that it’s definitely one of the best releases of the year. I’m very interested to see what the incense, safraleine, and immortelle are like in “Ganymede Extrait”. I’ve never tried the original one, but I found it interesting when Quentin Bisch mentions that immortelle had to be a prominent part in it, to the extent that he wanted to rebalance the whole formula around it. I also appreciate when Bisch talks about immortelle when he says: “The smell of this material is one of my favorites when found in natural landscapes like ocean coasts or south sun-bathed pine tree forests and sandy dunes.” I hope to win a bottle. • Ever since I first learned of Ganymede by Marc-Antoine Barrois, i was fascinated with the concept of capturing the scent of outer space, being described as the scent of the surface of Jupiter’s largest moon. I was instantly transported once I finally experienced this fragrance, it is now one of my favorites in my collection.

I am glad to have been able to read Quentin Bisch describing this new extrait formulation, highlighting the central immortelle note.

I am excited for this new release and I would love to experience this form of Ganymede, especially with Steven noting the extrait sits slightly closer to the skin, while maintaining longevity.

  • Three years ago, I made an impulsive purchase of Ganymede solely based on the glowing reviews from a fragrance community. Now, it has earned its place as a prized fragrance in my collection, one that I eagerly wear on various occasions. Sometimes, I find myself reaching for it without any specific reason, simply desiring a boost before stepping out the door. When I watched Steven’s depiction of the top notes of myrrh and resins intertwined with the captivating heart of succulent immortelle, it conjures an image of James Bond dining at a prestigious Michelyn-starred restaurant (catch the clever wordplay?). Quentin Bisch demonstrates his skill in extracting the essence of a fragrance and skillfully crafting intricate nuances around it. The Extrait version of Ganymede bursts forth with a captivating explosion of immortelle, orbiting gracefully with myrrh, incense, and Safraleine, propelling this fragrance fearlessly into uncharted territories, all while enveloping it in a comforting warmth reminiscent of the original formulation.

  • Ganymede Extrait seems like the ultimate tribute to immortelle. The combination of this flower with incense, myrrh and moss seems to take the fragrance to a honeyed, boozy tobacco finish. I’m impressed that Steven thinks so highly of it to make it one of his top new releases. Also follow @cafleurebonofficial on IG. I’m in the US.

  • RonaldProkes17 says:

I very much enjoyed Steven’s review. I agree that the substitution of the original mineral note for the immortelle makes the extrait more of a cold weather scent, but it makes me so happy that Steven mentioned that the sillage creates more of a personal bubble, unlike the original. I prefer my scents to be a more private affair and only those near me experiencing it. I certainly don’t need or desire to clear a room with my perfume. So this I think is a strong suite of the extrait along with immortelle, which is such a beautiful note in perfumery. And I really enjoyed reading Quintin Bisch’s reasoning behind creating this version and restructuring the whole composition around immortelle. Brilliant. I also enjoyed the mention of Serge Geinsburg, who I love and honestly strikes me as someone who this could be a signature scent for if he were still alive today. Anyway, brilliant review and introduction of this exciting version of Ganymede. I would love to have it.

  • I had samples from the original, or rather the eau de parfum, and I loved it. It had the most unique scent, and garnered a lot of compliments. I would really like to try this one. Steven’s review was also very informative. Following on instagram. Thank you for the draw! In the US.

  • Cole Patterson says:

This is my first time reading an article on CaFleurebon. I enjoyed it. You taught me more about the person but what’s better is I learned more about the origin as well as the perfumers. Im still fairly new to the world of niche perfumery. Needless to say, I’m in love. I’ve been following Steven for awhile now and I think he is fabulous! I really appreciate the way he delivers each fragrance to the community. Now as for the fragrance in question, Ganymede Extrait sounds absolutely devine. I love resins and woods but most of all I love saffron. I cannot wait to get a sample of this fragrance. To win a full bottle would be a treasure for sure. Good luck to all!

  • Gabriel Gallawa says:

Thank you Quentin Bisch for explaining how this version of Ganymede differs technically from the OG. Steven makes a practical expression of howthe technical changes made by Mr. Bisch play out to our noses. I appreciate both the technical and the practical information.

  • I enjoyed Quentin Bisch’s detailed description of how immortelle smells in nature—”reminiscent of spices like cumin, green resinous undertones, boozy warm facets and warm rocks heated by the sun”—since I’m not sure I’ve had an opportunity to smell immortelle on its own. It’s also interesting to hear how he approached the material as the focal point of a rebalanced Ganymede. Steven’s detailed review gave me a better sense of how the immortelle and Safraleine shine in this leathery, resinous fragrance and really made me want to try it. Ganymede Extrait sounds long lasting and exceptionally composed.

I was so thrilled to learn about the Extrait, since I recently acquired the original Ganymede.
The introduction, Quentin Bisch thoughts on how he created Ganymede Extrait and Steven review i all enjoyed, such a lovely experience .
I love Ganymede, and I’m glad the Extrait is more spicy and dark , but the best parts of the original are noticeable , especially the saffron , immortelle and the leather.
Quentin Bisch stated not once, but twice how he added boozy facets to the Extrait, however Steven spoken of nothing liquor-like in his review ,and I really wonder if I’ll be able to pick up the liquor or not.

I loved Steven’s video review and Quentin Bisch’s introduction. First off I love the original Ganymede with it’s unoque qualities of leather, tobacco, and mineral notes. I’ve heard so many great things about Ganymede extrait that have been confirmed by Steven. I also love Master Perfumer Quentin Bisch and all of his work. Love his quote “I overdosed immortelle absolue to give together with myrrh resinoide, incense and moss a “maquis “twist. Marc-Antoine Barrois Ganymede Extrait is a variation of the original Ganymede “sous le soleil exactement (as per the song by Serge Gainsbourg). Steven’s review was very in-depth, as usual. I enjoyed his overall assessment, as well as, his description of the olfactive properties.
    Well done.
Ganymede (original) is one of my favorite fragrances in my entire collection. Per Quentin Bisch, that the extrait is a darker, warmer, and spicier take on the original has my undivided attention. This is a creation I look forward to getting my nose on. Thank you for this fabulous opportunity to participate in this this giveaway.

  • I’ve heard about Ganymede and it seems to be a very polarizing scent. Love it or hate it perhaps so to see a stronger formulation should be interesting to sample. Blasting the immortelle with myrrh and incense? Yes please! US-CA .

  • Both yours and Steven’s review make this fragrance sound so amazing. It sounds so spicy and warm. I really enjoy perfumes that use Myrrh.

I did not know that ganymede was the largest moon of Jupiter. good to know. I love the idea of abstract fragrance making and I am a fan of the original ganymede although I did not own a bottle but I always loved it on people around me. it smelled different. Bisch’s comment about adding the immortelle absolue with myrrhe resinoid to give a darker ganymede is something I always thought would make the original formula even punchier. Steven’s description adds to Bisch’s note and he explained it was a darker richer ganymede with more immortelle (which I love) , more spicy and less “minerally”. I also like the description of that “safrolin” note Steven mentioned that it was saffron leather like.
I would love to win a bottle. this seems like it will be a masterpiece

  • Admirations for Marc-Antoine Barrios, and Quentin Bisch for releasing Ganymede Extrait , eye-opening novelty fragrance.
Quentin Bisch created my beloved Delina Exclusif from Parfums deMarly , and Experimentum Crucis from Etat Libre d’Orange, and my expectations for Ganymede Extrait are quite high.
From nice amount of spices, to zesty mandarin , immortelle , to leather , woody and even a bit a boozy touch… can you repeat that again please?
I love the whole thing , the fragrance, the inspiration, asteroid introduction, it’s almost like Ganymede Extrait is coming from a Pablo Coelho book .
What also surprised me is how genuinely impressed Steven is, and I’d like to thank Michelyn for reaching out to Quentin Bisch , so he can share some moments, and tell us about how the fragrance was made.
    Thanks for the draw

  • Fantastic introduction by Quentin Bisch and Stevens video review.
Indigo Perfumery got great niche and artisanal perfumes. Ganymede seems amazing with longer longevity, being richer and more concentrated. I hope I got my nose on it soon. I also love that it has Incense and Myrrh on it.

Since Cafleurebon is a blog for fragrance enthusiasts , I do have a good feeling most , including the contributors believe Marc-Antoine Barrois is the owner of a promising niche brand. Such thoughts would be only partially true, since he’s actually a renowned generational tailor first !
For many years he worked in Haute Couture fashion for the likes of grand couturier like geniuses like Dominique Sirop , Jean-Paul Gaultier and for Jean-Claude Jitrois . Even now , when he’s fragrance business is blooming , you could go to his boutique, and order a tailor made suit.
I’m eager for Ganymede Extrait because of the addition of more spices , incense and the warm boozy facets Quentin Bisch told us about. Ganymede is a must have for all who love leather fragrances , it’s in my possession since 2020 , the Extrait sounds even better

Such a special fragrance, Ganymede Extrait is amazing
I know all 5 Marc-Antoine Barrois fragrances, and if I have to rate my favorite ones:
    1. Ganymede Extrait
    2. Encelade
    3. Ganymede
I like how Quentin Bisch called the fragrance raw , if Ganymede is a compliment getter most people can enjoy, the Extrait in my opinion is made for the connoisseurs only. Unlike him , at least on my skin there little to no cumin, and no traces of anything boozy. To me Ganymede Extrait smells like a love child of Ganymede and Interlude Man by Amouage, it’s spicy, smoky, and the mineralic notes are significantly toned done compared to Ganymede , it seems like Steven is with me too…pretty much.
