Maison Francis Kurkdjian Paris Absolue pour Le Soir: Romance Redux

So many wonderful writers have already engaged us in their reviews of this beauty: our own dear Herr Mark, Octavian, Denyse…

Why one more voice?

Absolue Pour le Soir is an all-night party animal, a lurking beast to their noses.

A sultry dominatrix, a panther.

It feels vastly different to me; a natural expansion of my own womanliness, the embrace that both comforts and seduces.

Absolue greets me with a warmth and graciousness which feels inclusive-

As if I were drawing my near and dearest into my outstretched arms.

The generosity of resinous bounty, exquisitely opulent florals [never overstated], and

smoky subtext create an atmosphere of mysterious familiarity-

Much like a haunting melody you can’t quite place, or a precious verse, long forgotten.

How Monsieur Kurkdjian manages it, is a wonder.

Such heart-breakingly lovely rose!

The voluptuous creaminess of ylang-ylang!

My pulse quickens with the anticipation of an ardent lover…

Atlas cedar of yore-of biblical renown- in a pas-de-deux with benzoin.

They whisper of down and depth.

I am enchanted and speechless.

I beg to differ, respectfull : it is a pillow scent.

My husband of many years buries his face wheremy scented hair has been; my grown sons tenderly incline their aquiline noses against my nape to further enjoy this precious nectar.

My friends, my colleagues, wrap their arms around me and inhale deeply, sighing with pleasure.

Visitors who make themselves at home always bury their faces in my pillow.

If I were allowed only two fragrances with which to express myself in depth-

They would be Absolue Pour le Soir and Mitsouko.

Not too shabby, considering that Mitsouko and I fell in love 45 years ago …

This beauty is so warm, so bountiful, so gracefully mysterious yet welcoming, it could clearly be my signature scent.

When I wear it, I wonder why I bother to wear anything else.

Amanda dear : you have a houseful of folk sniffing you, day and night !
I think this would speak to you.
MC : that's because you're looking into my soul, my friend.
The flesh is a contrary, ephemeral thing ;D

  • I'm having very much the same response to Absolue.  I haven't fallen so immediately head over heels in love with a perfume in a very long time. It doesn't strike me as a party scent at all, but rather as something much more relaxed and intimate.
My generally perfume hating cat agrees. Usually  he would rather be outside chasing leaves, but when I put this on he just wants to cuddle up beside me and purr.
