Maison Crivelli Rose Saltifolia Review (Stephanie Bakouche)+ A Salty Draw

Maison Crivelli Rose Saltifolia review

Roses can be many things, sweet, spicy, woody, but they are rarely paired with a hefty pinch of salt. Maison Crivelli creates some of the most unusual yet wearable compositions, and Rose Saltifolia is precisely that.

Based on the memory of a stroll on the seaside, among fields of freshly bloomed roses blown by the sea winds, it vibrates with intensity and emotion, a feeling of lazy afternoons spent by the sea someplace where time stands still.

For me, Maison Crivelli Rose Saltifolia brings memories of my first trip to Antibes. The salty air hits you as soon as you exit the airport in Nice. The short drive to Antibes happens to be right along the sea, and it’s one of the best drives with the most incredible view. Radically different from the busy tourist city vibe of Nice, a city with loud restaurants and nightclubs buzzing with tourists, Antibes, on the other hand, is the most beautiful hideaway from all that, with an authentic flavor of French hospitality, cozy cafes, and romantic villas.

If you ever find yourself in Antibes, I urge you to stay at the Villa Les Roses. An Art Deco style, contemporary Provencal villa, located 40 meters from the sandy beach, Plage de la Salis in the Cap de Antibes. It’s one of the most incredible hidden gems. It doesn’t get its name Villa Les Roses for no reason. The scent of roses mingling with the salty sea is intoxicating and impossible to forget. It follows you anywhere you turn. From the morning cup of coffee, I would slowly sip by the pool, hidden by the delicate shade of the rose bushes, to the afternoon swim in the sea, the scent of roses seeping into your skin.

The opening notes greet you with a blast of juicy blood orange and a pinch of fragrant peppercorn. As your taste buds adjust to the saltiness woven through the whole body of the fragrance, you are hit with the most beautiful rose, as if someone slapped you with an entire bouquet of centifolias, petals flying everywhere and the thick rose oil dripping down the stems. Then comes the briny seaweed, making this whole composition almost savory.

On a blazing hot July afternoon,  Maison Crivelli Rose Saltifolia feels like walking into the untamable sea and feeling nothing but joy. The moment when nothing matters except the feeling of the salty waves against your skin, a sweet scent of careless vacation, and nowhere to be. There is a sweet lemon-like facet to the rose. A rugged rose bush that grows as it pleases. It makes you want to put your hair down and let it all go; this is the ideal olfactive portrait of beachy waves, sun-kissed skin, and a bottle of ice-cold bubbly rose waiting for you in the shade of a beach café.

Café by the beach by Olya Bar Antibes 2017

Vacation is part of the collective French consciousness, and we Americans, obsessed with careers, deadlines, and the promise of the next promotion, have a lot to learn about slowing down and living in the moment. After all, life is too short, and it won’t be the scent of the new office that brings sweet memories in old age, but the intoxicating scent of the wild rose bush along the coast just might.

Notes:  blood orange essential oil, pink peppercorn essential oil, rose Centifolia absolute, seaweed absolute, cashmeran.

The bottle of Rose Saltifolia was kindly gifted to me, opinions are always my own. I am a digital strategist for Europerfumes.

  • Olya’s review takes me on a wonderful Summer vacation. The smell of salt water, Roses, beach, pool side. Life is to short enjoy. Maison Crivelli Rose sounds wonderful. Thank you this Chance. USA

  • In recent times, I’ve been enjoying a Veronique Gabai fragrance called “Cap d’Antibes”, and after reading from this review, I’m wondering if this Maison Crivelli release might be similar to it: they both seem to inspired by the same location. Olya’s review gave me insight into both of those fragrances. I’m very interested in trying this one by Maison Crivelli, and I haven’t tried anything from them yet. I live in the U.S.A. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

  • Olya, thank you for this evocative description of this scent! I love a seaside rose (DS & Durga Rose Atlantic, Long Winter Farm Sea Rose), but neither of those are quite salty enough! (I grew up near the ocean!) This review shows me that Rose Saltifolia might be just what I am looking for. The only Maison Crivelli I have tried is Absinthe Boréale, which is lovely. I’m in NY, USA.

  • Olya!!! ❤️❤️ What a beautiful review!! I would love to experience roses by the sea in this fragrance! What a lovely journey by scent! ❤️ Thank you for an amazing review & opportunity to win! USA

  • Maison Crivelli Rose Saltifolia seems to be a delightful perfume. I liked the part where Olya talks about “Vacation is part of the collective French consciousness, and we Americans, obsessed with careers, deadlines, and the promise of the next promotion, have a lot to learn about slowing down and living in the moment. After all, life is too short, and it won’t be the scent of the new office that brings sweet memories in old age, but the intoxicating scent of the wild rose bush along the coast just might”. Seems to be a simple perfume with not too many notes, but the blending and quality of ingredients can make all the difference. A summer vacation right now, or at least olfactorily, seems perfect and Maison Crivelli Rose Saltifolia promises it. I have not tried this brand yet. Thanks for the generous draw. From USA.

  • Thank you Olya. This review makes me what to take a vacation to Antibes. Enjoy the roses bushes along the sea shore. Rose Saltifolia sounds rather unique – Rose and salty facets sounds unusual but beautiful. I have not tried any Maison Crivelli fragrance but would love to try some.
    Greetings from Maryland, US.

  • I am aware of Stephanie Bakouche so there is always curiosity when she is attached to a perfume. Maison Crivelli Rose Saltifolia seems like a perfume that is focused on rose but also pays tribute to the salty atmosphere on the coastal area. Olya has used her trip to Antibes to describe the fragrance for this reason. I am in US.

  • Yelena Levkovich says:

Thank you Olya for such inspiring review about this perfume. Its really makes me go on vacation especially on July on my birthday month :). This perfume sounds very intriguing, I didn’t have chance to try any of Maison Crivelli perfumes yet. I live in Sacramento, CA. ))
Once again, thank you again. Your pictures are stunning

  • Olya, you did a fantastic job here. Roses are one of the most sophisticated notes in perfumery and adding a salty twist surely makes it fantastic. Maison Crivelli is one of those perfume houses you never forget when you get to try them. I am in love with Hibiscus Mahajad. Would love to try this one because, based on the description, it remembers me of a summer vacation I had years ago with my family.
    I live in the U.S.

  • Olya, I wish I could go to Antibes but you took me there with this review of Rose Saltifolia. I never heard of salty rose perfumes and I like the idea. My favorite Maison Crivelli is Iris Malkahan

  • I’m so jealous of this beautiful escape to the Mediterranean! A salty rose sounds perfect! I’m always looking for a new way to experience rose scents. Thank you for this amazing review Olya. US

  • I loved reading the description of this and how it made me want to go on vacation. The notes sound absolutely gorgeous.

  • I really enjoyed hoe Olya used her memories of vacationing in Antibes to really paint a vivid picture of Rose Saltifolia. If it wasn’t so cold I could almost imagine being there. The fragrance sounds wonderful and bright but the almost savory salty facet Olya mentioned makes it sound very unique. I’ve not tried Maison Crivelli yet but have very much wanted to since I first heard about Iris Malikhan, and reading about their other fragrances, like Rose Saltifolia, has only made me want to try them all more. As always thanks for the generous draw, from CT USA.

  • Love how Rose Saltifolia brought back memories of Olya’s trip to Antibes. I would love to smell this! The note breakdown doesn’t do this justice. Marine, Salty, & Rose sounds so interesting. Never tried any fragrances to Maison Crivelli but this would be a great introduction. I live in Martinsville, Virginia USA

  • Olga’s review had me walking along the seashore with her. This sounds like a wonderful scent for the upcoming spring season. I don’t own nor have sampled any Maison Crevelli fragrances but would be willing to sample this one.

  • The roses in Antibes reminded me of my mother’s beautiful rose garden. A salty rose scent sounds fantastic. Thanks again for your thoughts Olya, and the opportunity to try a Maison Crivelli fragrance. Mich USA

  • Beautiful review, Olya !!! Love rose in perfumery and rose with salty aspects will be very interesting.
Not familiar with Maison Crivelli perfumes.
Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us.

  • Antibes looks lovely. I am certainly ready for some warm, lazy days by the seaside. A salted rose fragrance brings to mind Rose Atlantic from DS Durga. That one seems to have more citrus notes with a musk base. I like the cashmeran base and spiciness from the pink peppercorns in Rose Saltifolia. I haven’t tried any Maison Crivelli perfumes before. I’m in MD, USA.

  • Such a descriptive review! I’ve never been to Antibes, but it sounds lovely. I don’t want to enter the drawing, but do thank Europerfumes for their generosity towards us.

  • Really interesting review Olya! What I enjoyed most about Olya’s review is her description of how it reminds her of her first trip to Antibes, France, with the roses abundantly blooming around the Villa Les Roses mingling with the salty sea air of the drive down the ocean. I can absolutely imagine those two tantalizing and yet rarely combined scents coming together to make a very transporting fragrance, the perfect fragrance getaway from the frosty winter’s chill – a vacation in a bottle.

I don’t yet have a favorite Maison Crivelli fragrance as I have yet to try any but based on the notes I guess my favorite would be Fleur Diamantine, with it’s neroli and jasmine heart infused with saffron and musk. I live in the US.

  • Olga’s review paints a picture of beauty and light. I have never tried the any of the Maison Crivelli fragrances but I’d love to try Rose Saltifolia based on her review.

  • Constancesuze says:

I don’t think I’ve tried anything from Maison Crivelli, but I’m enjoying the rose renaissance- rose-aissance, if you will. With a nice salty ocean note, sounds very beautiful to me.
    I’m in the US.

  • A careless vacation? Just what I need. The photos are amazing. I’d love to go there, but for now I am off to Miami. Maybe I’ll catch of whiff of roses at the seashore there. I truly need to learn a lesson from the French and relax on vacation, but there are so many places to go and see the sights. I have not smelled anything from this line. The notes in this seem fantastic for spring/summer. Thanks for the review and the chance. USA.

  • Yum! Salty rose! Olya’s talk of Antibes has given me a serious case of wanderlust. I haven’t tried any Maison Crivelli fragrances, but I would love to try this one. I am in the US.

  • Never had a chance to try Maison Crivelli
Rose Saltifolia is a fragrance I’ll gladly wear all year round, even in the gloomy mid February weather . I like how unusual , but also refined it is. Classy rose , and the sea , I’m truly moved by Olya Bar review.
Thank you Olya, and Maison Crivelli
    USA

  • I like the idea of a salty rose, wearable on the beach. These descriptions for beach trips made me long for my upcoming vacation, and this sounds like the perfect scent to wear! Thank you for the review and the draw. USA

  • Can’t say I’ve had a salty rose before. I’ve never been to the beach either, but the description sure sounds lovely. “A rugged rose bush that grows as it pleases”. I like that. USA.

  • For a long time i knew Maison Crivelli fragrances for Bois Datchaï , and Iris Malikhân ,and last week I tried Lys Sølaberg. If I have to rate the 3:
1.Iris Malikhân , hard to describe iris fragrance. It both buttery , woody aromatic, earthy – leathery , with slight sweetness, and bitterness from the Mastic. It’s so complex
    2. Lys Sølaberg
    3. Bois Datchaï
From Rose Saltifolia I’m expecting laid-back, cozy rose , engulfed by the strength of the ocean.
    All profiles I already follow
    Thanks a lot

  • whimsical diva says:

The description of the beach makes me yearn for a late spring/summer vacation so badly. I’ve only ever tried the Hibiscus fragrance from Crivelli and while I could appreciate it, it wasn’t for me. Rosa Saltiflora, however, sounds right up my alley. I’d love to enter the draw. I live in California, USA.

  • I have to say I’m now owner of Hibiscus Mahajad, Olya Bar review was so striking, I had no choice but to buy a sample. Expressive and smooth, with high compliment factor fragrance, Hibiscus Mahajad like no other .
Rose Saltifolia is different, but vacation in Nice, the ocean, and roses I can’t go wrong with.
    Nice giveaway , USA
    Regards

  • Oh, wow! This sounds like an incredible, out-of-the-box take on a rose fragrance.
    Would love to smell.
Haven’t tried a one from this house.
    Hello from Boston.

  • Olya took me to a journey again, this time to the French Riviera, and Rose Saltifolia.
Every girl needs to treat herself, vacation in Nice , laying on the beach, with some nice champagne truffles, and a bottle of cold Dom Perignon
    Thank you for the opportunity

  • Michael Prince says:

I enjoyed reading Olya’s review of Maison Crivelli Rose Saltifolia and learning about Olya’s trip to Plage de la Salis in the Cap de Antibes where she stayed at Villa des Roses where she transports me to where I can visualize and experience Maison Crivelli Rose Saltifolia where a beautiful Rose fragrances meets the salt sea air and creates this beautiful fragrance. My favorite Maison Crivelli Fragrance is Iris Malikhan. I am from Ohio, USA.

  • wallygator88 says:

Thank you for the nice review Olya.

This is a super interesting combination of notes, more specifically the combination of the Centifolia rose and sea weed absolute. I love how this review indicates that this fragrance would work well in warmer weather.

Also Olya’s photos do justice top the idea behind the fragrance.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • Olya’s review takes me away to a summer holiday with the rejuvenating smell/feel of ocean salt, rose petals and taking a break from our unnecessarily ‘busy’ lives. I have yet to try any of Maison Crivelli’s offerings, but am appreciative of this chance. Thank you! USA
PS Olya’s Sophia Pettrilo purse makes another appearance. Love it!

  • Olya Bar take on Maison Crivelli Rose Saltifolia reminded me of France, and making Rose and Pink Peppercorn Cake , and eating it while on the beach in Nice. The cake is popular in France, but here i do make it on private orders only.
I’m not familiar with Maison Crivelli fragrances
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign
