Maison Crivelli Hibiscus Mahajad Review (Quentin Bisch) 2021 + Ruby Red Tea Draw

Maison Crivelli Hibiscus Mahajad review

Maison Crivelli Hibiscus Hibiscus Mahajad by Olya Bar©

Each sensorial experience leaves an olfactory imprint in our memory, and in the end, our lives become a library of scented treasures. Behind Thibaud Crivelli’s calm exterior lies an unquenchable thirst for adventure that has characterized his family for more than 150 years, as they have ventured off the beaten tracks at a time when traveling was uncommon. From Lebanon to Australia and from Morocco to Vietnam via the Indian Ocean, the three generations that preceded Thibaud lived on five continents and have passed on an eclectic legacy that has sharpened his taste for exploration. He developed an empirical and multi-sensorial approach to nature due to his ability to take his time, be present at the moment, and admire its immensity while exploring the smallest details.

Maison Crivelli’s work is a journey of the senses, celebrating the raw gifts of nature. Smelling scorched sandalwood on the slopes of an erupting volcano, zigzagging across a cocoa plantation on a motorbike, tasting absinthe under the Northern lights, or crossing a field of iris on the edge of the desert… all led to one of the most modern approaches to creating perfume.

Masion Crivelli Hibiscus Mahajad extrait de parfum

Hibiscus tea or karkadé by Olya Bar©

Maison Crivelli Hibiscus Mahajad is Crivelli’s memory brought to life through the skill of Givaudan Perfumer Quentin Bisch, the first extrait de parfum in the Crivelli collection. It’s a wicked blend of ruby rose and hibiscus tea, crushed pomegranate seeds bleeding its red-hot juice over zesty mint and cinnamon sticks. The story of Maison Crivelli Hibiscus Mahajad begins in the heart of a gemstone market, with a steaming cup of tea and bloody orange sunset. The petals and sepals—the green bulb found in the center of the petals—are infused in hot water to create a ruby red tea. When I was a child, my father brought us gifts from his trip to Egypt, and amongst many, there was a delicious red tea, also known as karkadé, I couldn’t get enough of the unique taste. Slightly sour, a bit sweet, and oh so fragrant.

Each of Crivelli’s fragrances is a living, breathing substance with its energy and character; each one possesses its personality. You grow to know each other on a deeply intimate level as you wear it on your skin, you learn each other’s moods and tonality, you go through an experience together, and that intimate relationship between you either grows stronger or you decide to walk your separate paths. Maison Crivelli Hibiscus Mahajad is one playful devil in disguise. A light fruity opening of luscious pomegranate and sparkling black currant slowly shifts into a sensual texture of rich leather. Each ingredient is woven into a flawless orchestration; it becomes more than a fragrance. It becomes a sound, a texture. It comes alive.

Best Hibiscus Perfumes

A beguiling blend of ripe fruits over the terracotta shade leather, Maison Crivelli Hibiscus Mahajad becomes a sinful addiction, it works its magic as soon as it touches the skin, and it was designed to be heard, its scent trail is loud and clear, and I applaud once again at the fantastic work Quentin Bisch.

You slowly take an olfactory sip and feel as if you have fallen down the magic rabbit hole. “A land was full of wonder, mystery, and danger. Some say, to survive it, you need to be as mad as a hatter” – The Mad Hatter, Alice In Wonderland. I say all you need is a spritz of perfume and a sip of tea.

Key ingredients: Rose Damascena ORPUR absolute, vanilla ORPUR absolute, leather, spearmint ORPUR essential oil, cassis, ambrette seeds absolute, ORPUR cinnamon essential oil.

A note from the brand: ORPUR defines the most precious natural perfume ingredients from the perfume house Givaudan.

  • Ooh, this sounds like an incredible rose fragrance. I love all kinds of perfumes with rose as one of the main notes. That juicy pomegranate opening sounds luscious.

I’ve never heard of this brand before. I plan to check out their other offerings.

    I live in the USA.

  • Olya’s review is both evocative and visceral – I love the memories conjured but also that she says the fragrance is a living substance meant to be heard. I find this enchanting for some reason. I have not tried anything from the brand but also think Santal Volcanique sounds wonderful. Thanks as always for the thoughtful review and draw. I’m in USA

This is a new house to me, but I love to discover new things! This sounds like a solid rose scent! I’m excited to try it. In Louisiana USA.

  • The notes sound like my cup of tea (no pun intended) – I love rose, hibiscus, and leather. I particularly enjoyed the personification of this perfume in your review and the description of sound and texture, making the perfume appear truly multisensory. I haven’t tried any from this brand before but my interest is piqued! MA, USA

  • This is a new house to me. Love the notes. Olya’s review capturing memories. Maison Crivelli Hibiscus sounds like something I would love to explore. Thank you for this Chance. USA

  • Olya! What a beautiful vibrant review! ❤️ I don’t think I’ve experienced hibiscus in a perfume (though certainly in fine dining). Pomegranate is always fascinating. I’m so intrigued by this house and can’t wait to explore! I’ve not yet had the chance. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity! ❤️ USA

  • I’ve not heard of Maison Crivelli before. Olya’ s review as usual, makes me want to try this fragrance. Red fruits, rose and leather sounds like a luscious scent with depth. I’m in MD, USA.

  • This sounds divine! I grew up drinking red zinger tea and this sounds like that combined with roses. I’ve heard great things about this houses Iris scent but this one also sounds like a must try. Brooklyn, NY.

  • Maison Crivelli Hibiscus Hibiscus Mahajad is artistic fragrance made by the image, and taste of how Karkadè is served in Asia, sweetened with mint. There may be others, but I’ve smelled only one Karkadè fragrance before. The leather addition is something I was not expecting, but the fragrance is even more desirable to me now.
As a big believer in herbology, I’d like to say drinking real Karkadè is not for children , the side effects could outweigh the health benefits .
    Thank you Olya, Europerfumes

  • Olya had me with her metaphor of “siblings the Maf Hatter’s tea…” This sounds like a spectacular mixture of notes. Hibiscus is surely one of the under appreciated notes in perfumery and would love to get my nose on this. I haven’t had the privilege of smelling anything from this house, but they sound intriguing. WI, USA

  • What can I say, Olya did such a beautiful review, description that I just enjoyed every word of it.
Amazing story behind Maison Crivelli Hibiscus Mahajad. My imagination takes me to in the heart of a gemstone market in Southeast Asia, drinking cup of tea and bloody orange sunse….
Gorgeous house and composition, would love to discover Maison Crivelli and Hibiscus Mahajad. Greetings from Florida USA and thank you for draw

  • Antonio Tavares says:

Olya’s usage of the phrase “library of scented treasures” definitely rings true with this one, for me. I LOVE hibiscus tea and remember each and every time that I’ve had it. The color, the blending of tastes both sour and sweet, and of course the fragrance are forever imbedded into my mind. To think that a fragrance could come close to replicating the emotion that these memories evoke is tantalizing. Unfortunately, I have never had the pleasure of trying any Maison Crivelli fragrances, but this one sounds beautiful and the opportunity to experience it sounds fantastic. Hopefully one day Hibiscus Mahajad can become my next “sinful addiction”. Thanks for the opportunity and cheers from Illinois!

  • The image presented by Olya in this review is magical. What appeals to me most is the tea memory that Olya still remembers. It truly is amazing what our senses do and how they let experiences live in our minds for a lifetime. My husband drinks Hibiscus tea daily so I think my memory of it will always remind me of him. I would love to try Hibiscus Mahajad.

I haven’t yet tried any fragrances from Maison Crivelli. Thank you for the giveaway. In the USA.

  • This sounds wonderful! I love a beautiful rose tea scent, like Le Labo The Noir, so this sounds like something I need to try! I’m not that familiar with this house, but I love their bottle designs. I live in New York.

  • This fragrance sounds very intriguing to me, I absolutely love Rose fragrances but the way this one was described makes me feel like I’ve been missing out on a sinful rose bomb would love to win this fragrance it sounds like a masterpiece

  • I drink Hibiscus Tea almost every day , I love the smell, and the taste , it also helps with the high blood pressure . You can say i’m naturally
drawn to Maison Crivelli Hibiscus Mahajad . Unusual and refined fragrance with hibiscus , rose , leather and vanilla. I’ll be happy to win a bottle.

  • Sandro Mateush says:

Wow, I didn’t even know what hibiscus-based fragrances were created! This is the first time I’ve seen.

It would be useful for me to read information about the harm and benefits of carcade tea, because I can literally drink it in liters)
Especially in its cold condition and especially in summer. I love it!

The description of the fragrance is very intriguing to my curiosity!
It would be interesting to get to know him better

    USA, Nevada

  • Hibiscus Mahajad Sounds gorgeous! I loved the description, “ It’s a wicked blend of ruby rose and hibiscus tea, crushed pomegranate seeds bleeding its red-hot juice over zesty mint and cinnamon sticks.” I want to try this ASAP. I have heard about Maison Crivelli but this would be my first time smelling the perfumes. ~Indiana, USA

  • Olya Bar take on Maison Crivelli Hibiscus Mahajad , reminded me making and eating Hibiscus Rose Cake , with Pomegranate , one of the trendiest Wedding Cakes for the past 4-5 years. Eating the cake, drinking tea with fresh mint, and resting after long day at the Bakery, that’s what I’m thinking right now.
Quentin Bisch I know, but not Maison Crivelli.
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign

  • I really wanna try this brand. Ever since I first heard of it I liked the concept and the perfumes all sound interesting and unique. Particularly I’ve really wanted to try Iris Malikhan. Then I heard about the new extrait line starting with Hibiscus Mahajad and have wanted to try this since. I loved Olya’s review and description. Particularly I enjoyed that she shared a scent memory about first trying Hibiscus tea. Ive not tried the tea nor any fragrances from. Maison Crivelli as of yet. Glad to see that they’re now being distributed in the U.S. though! Thanka for the generous draw, From CT USA.

This is a new house to me, but I love to discover new things! This sounds like a solid rose scent! I’m excited to try it. In New York, USA.

  • I’m trying to wrap my head around a fruity, leathery, minty fragrance, and cannot fathom how one could manipulate those notes to smell good together. But if anyone could do it, it would be Quentin Bisch. Olya has convinced me to test this fragrance out, for the novelty of the creation if nothing else. I’m in Pittsburgh, PA.

  • msnitechemist says:

What a color and a collection of fragrances perfect for the holidays. I love the idea of all these classically yummy flavors and scents put together for this. “Slightly sour, a bit sweet, and oh so fragrant.” – this sounds unusual for a fragrance, no? The bottle looks so sleek and beautiful, too. I had never heard of this house, and I will be using the next hour diving into their website. Thank you for the draw. I live in the US.

  • This sounds beautiful. I was interested in this fragrance before, but after reading Olya’s review, I am even more curious. And made by my favorite perfumer!
I have tried only one from the house, Iris Malikhan. I adore it. USA

  • Well I admit I was not expecting hibiscus dominant fragrance, such a surprise.
Olya Bar review transported me to my late 2018 Istanbul trip , where I was enjoying my Hibiscus tea , with rose jam and Turkish delight in one of the local , traditional coffee shops .
Hibiscus Mahajad is a fragrance I’ll sample ASAP.
I’ve heard Maison Crivelli name , but never had a chance to smell their fragrances
Thanks , and Cheers with Mozart Chocolate Cream Liqueur
    USA

  • I really enjoyed the description of how the notes blend, becoming more than a fragrance, a sound, a texture. I haven´t tried any from the house yet, but I would love to try it. From the notes listed, the only one I recognize the most is pomegranate and I love it.

  • When I was younger I was not even aware of Hibiscus, we were all calling it Karkadè . Call it the way it suits you, but Hibiscus Mahajad is a fragrance you don’t see everyday. I really like the smell of Karkadè , even though I can’t drink it myself , my blood pressure is low to begin with .
I can’t exactly say I know Maison Crivelli, but I know
Iris Malikhân , special and hard to describe iris fragrance. It both buttery , woody aromatic, earthy – leathery , with slight sweetness, and bitterness from the Mastic. The scent goes through a lot of phases , you never know what to expect. The same level of complexity I’m expecting from Hibiscus Mahajad
    All profiles i already follow
    Thanks a lot

  • Olya hooked me on this fragrance referring to it as a “sinful addiction”. I’m there 🙂 USA

  • Olya gave a very well-thought out history of the inspiration for the fragrance, as well as breaking it down quite nicely. She is a very good writer, and uses her creative prose quite well. BRAVA!

Unfortunately, up until this time in my fragrance journey, I have yet to try anything from the brand. But from reviewers, I think one I should get my nose on is Iris Malikhân.

I live in Waldorf, Maryland, USA.

  • Olya’s description of karkadé has me searching for a red tea to sip. I’m a fan of Quentin Bisch’s creations and would love to try Hibiscus Mahajad. Thanks for the opportunity! Mich USA

  • I absolutely adore the scent of hibiscus tea. The story of Crivelli’s family’s history of adventure is enthralling. I have never tried the brand, but would love to. I am in the US.

  • Loved the line about the pomegranate bleeding into the mint, this sounds so good! This is a new brand for me. I am from New England

  • wallygator88 says:

This is such a fascinating fragrance. Thank you for the great review Olya.

I really love the analogy of this fragrance to a soothing cup of hibiscus tea. I love hibiscus tea and the addition of pomegranate just makes it sound so exotic, lush and beautiful.

I’m already envision sipping this tea in some Egyptian back alleyway on a hot day.

This is the first time that I am hearing of this brand.

    Cheers from WI,USA

  • I haven’t tried anything by this brand, yet, but it’s always fun to try new perfumes. From Olya’s review, Hibiscus Mahajad sounds like a beautiful rose perfume. Would love to try it out. Thanks for the review and draw. Writing from the USA.

  • Michael Prince says:

What appealed to me about Olya’s review of Maison Crivelli Hibiscus Mahajad is learning about the 150 year Crivelli family lineage in perfumery and learning about the creation of this beautiful fragrance. A fruity tea fragrance with Rose and leather sounds absolutely exquisite. I haven’t tried another from the brand Maison Crivelli so I don’t have a favorite yet, but I know I would love this. I am from Ohio, USA.

  • I love the mad hatter hats first of all… Anything with rose notes I most try, since some of my favorites have a rose accord!! Yes, all you need is a spritz of perfume & a sip of tea!! Awesome review Olya… Really digging the bottle but never tried any from this house before. USA

Thanks Cafleurebon for the opportunity & good luck everyone!!!

  • I haven’t tried anything yet from this fragrance house, but I’ve been wanting to try their fragrance “Iris Malikhan” for a while now. In regards to “Hibiscus Mahajad”, I’m very interested in trying it. It’s list of notes seems very appealing to me. I appreciate learning about this new fragrance from reading from this review-Olya caused me to think that I would like to try this fragrance. I live in MD., U.S.A. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

Wow I love your description of this fragrance being alive. This sounds fantastic! The notes sound great as well with the hibiscus, rose and cinnamon. I don’t think I’ve ever smelled something with this combination of notes. I also have not yet had the opportunity to sample this house. Thank you for the draw. From the USA.

  • I’m a fan of Quentin Bisch, and I know and own quite a few of his fragrances, both designer , and niche. Hibiscus Mahajad is original, expressive and smooth, but also so unexpected.
Hibiscus tea, rose pomegranate, mint and cinnamon? Just Wow at the addition of leather…
Maison Crivelli name I’ve heard on Instagram, I’ve seen two guys posted pictures of their iris fragrance , both speaking highly about it.
    Exciting giveaway , USA
    Regards

  • Admirations for Maison Crivelli , and Quentin Bisch for releasing Hibiscus Mahajad, eye-opening novelty fragrance. Hibiscus , leather and pomegranate… can you repeat that again please? I like leather fragrances, love drinking Hibiscus tea , I’m excited about Hibiscus Mahajad.

Very nice review Olya! What appealed to me about Olya’s review is her description of the history of travel that is so deeply entwined in Thibaud Crivelli’s family that infuses his fragrances, particularly this one. I can really appreciate that sense of legacy surrounding it’s composition, and feel like knowing it would help me understand and enjoy the fragrance much more. I haven’t tried any fragrances from this brand so I don’t yet have a favorite, but I hope to soon! I live in the US.
