M. Micallef Gaiac (2005) Fragrance Review + Winter in Cannes Perfume Draw

gaiac m micallef perfume cannes winter Serge Gainsebourg Jane Birkin

 M. Micallef Gaiac and Serge Gainsbourg with Jane Birkin Wintering in Cannes 1976  (only Jane can wear fur and wicker and look so chic)

Longtime readers of CaFleureBon know that Parfums M.Micallef founded by Martine Micallef and Geoffrey Nejman based in Cannes, France, is one of our favorite niche perfume houses.  As The Silver Fox wrote in his recent review of Akowa, “There is something very addictive about M. Micallef perfumes; Mon Parfum, Mon Parfum Gold, Mon Parfum Cristal, the Ananda series, the Jewel series – flankers, variations, limited editions, subtle intonations of existing themes, yes. But skin loves them. You smell gilded and lavish, sensual and exquisitely cherished.”  Contributor Sebastian Vara and video fragrance reviewer  for the  popular YouTube channel Looking Feeling Smelling Great asked me which M. Micallef scent would be a good introduction to the  luxe niche perfume collection, for himself and his viewers and I answered immediately,  Gaiac from Les Exclusifs Collection.

I have always enjoyed Sabastian’s reviews. I have bought a couple of fragrances based on his reviews and was more than satisfied, so I trust his objectivity. I would love to try this fragrance based on his review as I love woody and spicy scents.

  • Great review, love Micallefs bottles. Gaiac was my first love right along with Royal Muska, I owned 30ml bottles and went through them very quickly. Yes he is right, its a south French chic luxury. Beautifully done and the Gaiac can be worn by either men or women, Gorgeous in every way. I am in the US. Would love to be entered.

  • The fragrance must be really good if Sebastian praises it. I usually have the same taste for fragrances as he does. 🙂 I am from Romania. Unfortunately I haven’t tried any of M.Micallef perfumes until now.

  • Sebastian is one of the most descriptive YouTube fragrance reviewers. This review was absolutely exceptional. “French vanilla ice cream” “luxurious” “creamy, sexy”–I NEED to try this!

  • Donovan Reich says:

I’m in Tucson, AZ and I really enjoy Sebastian’s discussion on Guiac with the tea like effect he mentioned with a carnation spice. It sounds wonderful! My favorite, or at least the only I have smelled from the house of M. Micallef, is Aoud pour homme.

  • Another great review by Sebastian. Very interested in checking out Gaiac as I’m looking for a few great winter scents to rock for 2015-2016 🙂
I’m from Toronto, Ontario in Canada. Have a great day everyone!

  • great review , I like the way he describes the composition of the fragance: “more than a woody fragance ..”

I live in Spain and my fave from the house is gaiac

  • French vanilla iced cream? All the sentences after that line are beautiful, and though I’d probably not usually be attracted to something with a bergamot opening, Sebastian makes it sound fabulous!! In the US. My favorite of the this, of which I’ve tried little, is Aoud Gourmet. In the US. Cheers!

  • Regarding Sebastian’s review, I enjoyed how he informed me of this niche fragrance house and this Gaiac fragrance.

I live in the United States about 2.5 hours North of Chicago.

I don’t have a favorite Parfums M.Micallef perfume because I haven’t tried any yet but would love to try them.

    Thanks!

  • Bought colognes based on his reviews. Love a woody van.scent so this would be awesone to win.

  • I enjoyed Sebastian’s review for it’s thoroughness – even a person who doesn’t know much about perfume would find his review informative, Also found it interesting how he said Gaiac will ‘calm down’ the holidays 😉

I’m in Canada, and I haven’t actually tried any Micallef perfumes yet. Hopefully this is the first one. Thanks!

  • Indeed, Sebastian is one of the best fragrances reviewer on Youtube! I didn’t try yet GAIAC, but a “sexy”, “luxurious” scent finds always a place on my try/buy list…
    I own and loooooove EMIR.
I’m in the EU. Thanks for the draw!

  • Well, I love Sebastian’s reviews a lot. He is the reviewer that got me excited in fragrances. I am a die hard fan and will always be. His review much like this one are unlike other reviews in that he describes fragrances using a rather personal touch or experiences which makes his reviews enjoyable and relevant to viewers. He is honest and very enthusiastic 🙂
One of my favourites from the line is Note Vanille 🙂 I would love to get my nose on Gaiac 🙂

  • Aaron Conder says:

I have not tried any from this house but am very intrigued to try some. Im located in the United States in Salt Lake City Utah. Thanks for the drawing!!!

  • Rodney Q. Wallace says:

Another great review by Sebastian! I expect nothing less.

I really enjoyed how Sebastian set the stage of describing Gaiac as a more intimate fragrance. The notes really play in that type space

I live in the U.S. (North Carolina).

My favorite offering from the M. Micallef house, so far, is Avant Garde.

    Thanks!

  • Awesome review from Sebastian! I’m in love with the M.Micallef line and have been eyeing this one for a while now. Thanks for the opportunity!!

  • love how Sebastian described Gaiac as something to be worn with a loved one. I am from Ottawa Canada and my favorite is Note Vanille.

Thank you for doing this giveaway. Would love to try Gaiac.

  • Great review! I haven’t tried this house yet, so don’t have a favorite but this one sounds like a good place to start. I’m in the USA.

  • I enjoy Sebastian’s “to-the-point” approach in his review-short and concise and prepared to deliver without rambling.

I currently don’t own any M. Micallef fragrances and I’m hoping Gaiac may be my first. Although my wife does own Rouge #2 and I can tell every time she’s wearing it-a very distinctive aroma.

Please enter this Texan in your giveaway contest so I have an excuse to light my fireplace this winter, as Sebastian says.

    Thank,

    Frank C.

  • Great review(as always he does)!!I haven’ t yet the opportunity to try fragrances of this house. So,it will be the first time for me to try so expensive fragrance..I live in Greece..Thanks!!!

  • I am familiar with Gaiac. It’s a lovely scent. I agree with Sebastian on Gaiac being warm and sexy – just right for the coming winter here in NE. I am very fond of M. Micallef Ylang Ylang. I had high hopes for Rose Extreme but sadly it did not work for me. USA

  • Nice to watch Sebastian who really knows how to review a fragrance IMHO. I have tried Gaiac awhile ago and remember really liking it, this review reminds why with the clove vanilla and wood . Now I need to buy it or maybe win. I like Avant Garde and Jewel for him by Micallef and live in the US

  • I always enjoy Sabastian’s review I have been followed him for more than a year. Unfortunately I don’t own any M. Micallef fragrances and Gaiac seems to be a good way to start. 🙂
I live in Malaysia. Thank you for the draw.

  • Great review by one of my favorites. Never tried the line but would like thw opportunity to. Thanks cafleurebon for the draw. Good luck everone. Live in the u.s.

  • A wonderful review by Sebastian. I have only worn Floral No.11 by M. Micallef. So there is much to explore of this house yet. And Gaiac sounds like the one to start with. Bravo! Cheers and Fabulous.

  • Loved this review! I haven’t really tried many M.Micallef fragrances but have heard quite a lot of good things about this House. Out of the three fragrances that I have tried my favourites were Aoud Gourmet and Note Vanille. I was waiting for Sebastian to say Gaiac was warm and delicious! That’s enough for me to want this fragrance! I live in Australia. Thank you for this draw 🙂

  • I have never smelled anything from this house. The notes are some of my favorites all in one. Should I be lucky and win I will for sure spritz some on and relax by the fire this holiday season. Thanks. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Rox

  • Thanks for the giveaway! From Sebastian’s review, this fragrance sounds like exactly what I’m looking for in a fragrance for the colder seasons.

  • The part with “french vanilla ice cream” really caught my interest. Gaiac seems to be delicious! I would love to try this one out as I don’t know any M. Micallef fragrances yet. Thanks for the draw and for the review!
    I am from EU.

  • Sounds like a great fragrance. I don’t currently own any Micallef and no one here in Hawaii stocks it. Thanks for another great review Sebastian and Mahalo for the giveaways.

  • Adrian Talia says:

Sebastian’s reviews are honest and informative! His description of the occasion for this scent is outstanding and paints a beautiful picture.

  • I’ve watched Sebastian from his first video and love how honest he is and the dedication he puts into the quality and integrity of his love for fragrances and this video highlights this. Plus I love his intro music. One of the best amongst youtube reviewers.
    I live in London, UK.
Which to choose…? I love so many but I’ll go with one of their most recent: AKOWA

  • Sebastian’s review was wonderful. He is really good at describe a fragrance. I have never had a chance to try any of Pafums M.Micallef perfume, but I sure of it, that those are fabulous. I would very love to win Gaiac it must be very nice, and the bottle is beautiful too.
Thanks for the chance. I live in Europe.

  • The best part of the video was when he said “French Vanilla Ice Cream”. Since I was very young French Vanilla was my favorite ice cream….to the point I would get made fun of for only ordering french vanilla and never try anything else……..needless to say this fragrance sounds spectacular.

I am from Nova Scotia Canada. I have never had a chance to smell any of the M.Micallef brand but have seen and read a few reviews that were extremely positive. I would love a chance to try this frag as it sounds absolutely like something I would love.

    Thank you for the oppurtunity

  • I have been following Sebastian for a while now and I always enjoy his videos! i like the way he reviews fragrances: simple, straight to the point, not trying hard to be poetic… just like havinmg a normal conversation over fragrances with a friend! I sadly haven’t heard a lot about Pafums M.Micallef and I would love to get Gaiac as my first!

I live in Vienna, Austria 🙂

  • Lovely review! The notes look appealing to me. My favorite Micallef is Mon Parfum: amazing caramel and patchouli combo. Thanks for the draw!
    USA

  • Always looking for more vanilla. I like Sebastian’s straight up reviews. They are helpful to me. Love Royal Muska. 🙂 USA

  • Jennifer Witt says:

I love the video review! Takes the content to a whole new level, I hope to see more of these on this wonderful site. Sebastian is one of my favorite reviewers, and we have similar taste in fragrance. I don’t currently have any favorite Micallef scents, they are all gorgeous. I live in the US. Thanks for this fun draw.

  • BostonScentGuy says:

What a great review! I love gaiac wood in general (Le Labo’s Gaiac is one of my favorite scents). The idea that this is a scent that highlights gaiac but also pairs it with the comforting elements of vanilla and spices makes this a must try for me! I’ve tried Arabian Diamond and, for a Rose Oud, I thought it was deep and distinctive. I live in the US and thanks for the draw.

  • Great review Sebastian. When it comes to fragrances that in its composition has cloves, is not everyone who knows how to handle with it. Some perfumers exaggerate the dose and fragrance becomes a bomb, but according to Sebastian’s review Gaiac is not the case. Jean-Claude Astier apparently created a great fragrance, which is to be expected for such a house renowned as the M. Micallef. Now after Sebastian’s review I’m crazy to try this ‘vanilla ice cream french’ that he says.
My favorite fragrance of M. Micallef is The N ° 1 Osswald exclusive. Unfortunately I just experienced, but I’ll have one soon.

    I’m in the US.

  • Fabulous review. Unfortunately i have never tried any Micallef scents yet, but hope to soon!! 🙂 I am in the UK and thanks for the draw.

  • love this youtube site – how much fun! thank you for introducing me to this. I learned how to pronounce the word Gaiac properly. that’s always a plus. Something you don’t get when reading… LOL I also like M Micallef and it is one of my faves as well. Love fragrances that I can share with my hubby (or he with me). Sounds like a perfect warm cozy fragrance for the winter months. I love vanilla ice cream so that was a description that catches my attention. I would love to try this – I’m registered and in US and greatly appreciate the offer.

  • I loved the review! Sebastian is very informed, and his take on the fragrance was spot on! I sampled this fragrance last year and have been dying to get my hands on a bottle. It is definitely my favorite of the brand. The clove note is just incredible! I live in New Jersey in the US.

  • I appreciate that Sebastian bothered to add a visual scroll of the notes on his video. Gaiac is my favortite of the 7 or 8 MMs that I have tried. I am in the U.S.

  • Lovely review Sebastian as always. Unfortunately I’ve never tried any M Micallef fragrance. Gaiac sounds amazing, amazing!!! I love creamy delicious fragrances with this aspect that Sebastian mentioned. One day I’ll try this french vanilla ice cream…

    I’m from Brazil!!!!
    Thanks

  • Wow! This sounds good and the bottle is adorable! I have unfortunately never tried this line but probably should:) Thank you for the draw!
    I live in Europe.

  • I love Sebastian’s reviews. He always paints a great picture. This fragrance is right up my alley. Woody/Vanilla is one of my favorite genres. It also sounds very delectable and scrumptious. Thank you so much for this generous giveaway.

  • Very much like the video reviews sometimes found in the draws. I love a quality clove scent. And the vanilla doesn’t hurt either. “Soft & sexy”, sounds good. My favorite is Puzzle #2. U.S.

  • susie frankel says:

Sebastian’s reviews are always well done and make the scent story something to look for….as of now I don’t have a favorite…favorites are so few and far between for me. USA

  • I liked Sebastian’s introduction of the house’s history. Although I don’t have any in my collection, I have sampled and loved a few of Micallef’s compositions and Gaiac is coincidentally my favorite.

I am in the US. Thanks for the draw.

  • Great house. I’ve tried couple of their fragrances and they are simply amazing with high quality.

  • Gaiac is absolutely my favorite from Micallef. Sebastian summed it up so nicely. It is creamy, warming, soothing and just beautiful. I agree the clove with the Jasmine gives it quite a nice carnation effect. Spicey for Him and Royal Vintage are two more that I really like. While I don’t own Gaiac I sure would love to own this. Thanks for a grand opprotunity. In the USA.

  • What a great review. Sebastian is one of my favorites fragrances reviewer. This is the first time I heard about Gaiac and this one seems to be a perfect fragrance for this winter. Warm, inviting, cozy and creammy. This is everything I ever wanted to the holidays.
I’ve never tried Micallef’s fragrance, but I heard good this about Micallef.

    USA

  • Another nice review. I’ve been subscribed to Sebastian’s youtube channel for a very long while now. I like how detailed he is and how he makes you imagine certain things about the fragrance. This is a scent I’ve heard so much about, so I’d love to win it! I haven’t tried a Micallef scent yet, but I know they’re a great house. I’m in Canada and thank you so much for the draw.

  • walter epting says:

Great review!I really appreciate in his review how he says the wood mixes with the vanilla to make a creamy warm fragrance.I’ve never tried a M. Micallef fragrance, but i’ve heard alot about the house starting with
aoud !.I’ve seen reviews on a few others, but have yet to try anything, cheers!

  • Sebastian is right this perfume is very French and approp. for both genders. I like tea notes, thus, that is also the reason Gaiac may impress me though i have not smelled it yet. My favorite Micallef creation is Sashka Black though my last acquisition was Avant Garde. thanks a lot for the draw. I am in the US

  • Smurfy gurly says:

This sounds wonderful, I love the way that Sebastion conjures up a mood with his description, and I love a cozy comforting scent. Would be chuffed to bits to win this, I’m in the UK.

  • I do not have much experience with the note of Gaiac in perfumes and this creation from M. Micallef can be a good start point to discover it. Plus, the idea of french vanilla ice cream sounds yummy. My favourite from M.Micallef is Royal Vintage.

I live in EU. Thanks for the draw!

  • French vanilla ice cream and a more than a woody smell caught my attention, a sexy luxurious perfume with a gourmand touch is what I am longing for
Unfortunately I still haven’t experienced any M.Micallef perfume but I would love to.
I am a registered reader living in EU and I thank you for this lovely draw.

  • I love Sebastian’s description of this fragrance house. He makes a great point that this line is is very luxurious, but the price point is very affordable.

I love Sebastian’s description of Gaic. I love vanilla and clove, so the tealike effect that Sebastian describes sounds lovely! I love bergamot as well. Many reviewers forget to talk about the drydown, but the vanilla dry down described by Sebastian as “french vanilla ice cream” and “creamy and velvety, soft ad sexy” sounds beautiful. I can see myself sipping on wine in front of the fireplace with my boyfriend. Sebastian, you make me REALLY want to try this fragrance!

I also like that Sebastian mentions that this fragrance can also be worn out. The clove note sounds very festive, but not obnoxious. This sounds like everything I am looking for in a winter scent!

I live in the USA. My favorite M. Micallef scent is Gardenia. It is my holy grail Gardenia scent – the ultimate gardenia scent for gourmand lovers! Thank you!

  • I like Sebastian videos and I agree with him this fragance is something I should have 😉 I smelled it once and I think it is worth a bottle! Perfect for winter!
    I’, in Europe (Spain)

  • I have particularly enjoyed two things in Sebastian’s review. First it was the scenery behind him, it was ser perfectly, very sublime and elegant. Second thing is that he explains really good what Gaiac is to him, how he would use it. I don’t have my favourite M.Micallef fragrance, but After watching Sebastian’s review I think it’ll be Gaiac.
    I live in Poland.

  • The only M. Micaillef scent I’ve tried happens to be Gaiac and I just love it! Sebastian nailed the review and I really liked his likening the clovey/woody/floral vibe as tealike. It really is! I’m in the US and would love to win this!

  • Loved this review Sebastian! I haven’t tried M.Micallef fragrances but have heard quite a lot of good things about this brand. I really enjoyed how Sebastian described Gaiac as a more intimate fragrance. Gaiac seems to be delicious!
    I live in the USA.

  • French vanilla ice cream in the drydown?? Yum, sign me up! Thanks for the great review Sebastian! You really paint a great picture for this perfume.
I live in Canada. Thanks for the draw.

  • Paramedica SP says:

Excelente resenha meu amigo.
    I’m in the U.S

  • Oh, I *adore* cloves too! One of my all-time favorite scents. And french vanilla ice cream! Sebastian’s review made me crave a sweet, delicious woody scent–I really want to try Gaiac! It also feels very relaxing, in keeping with the vibe of the scent.
I think I tried a sample of one of their lovely discontinued scents many years ago but not since then. Gaiac is at the top of my to-try M.Micallef fragrances list along with Note Vanille

    USA
    Thanks for the draw.

  • Łukasz Kordys says:

Great Fragrance from Micallef, lovely, cozy, warming, just perfect for fall and winter.Great review as always.
    Best regards

  • I always forget to comment where I’m from. I’m in the US. I also forgot to say my favorite which is also my favorite vanilla: Note Vanille. This is the new formula. I’ll bet the old formula would make my head explode from it’s goodness. Thanks for doing this amazing giveaway and sorry for not saying this information in my first comment.

  • What a great review my friend Sebastian! I love vanilla and clove, so the tealike effect that Sebastian describes sounds lovely! My favorite Micallef creation so far is Royal Vintage. thanks a lot for the draw.
    I live in the U.S.

    Thanks!

  • Great review Sebastian! I enjoyed how you explained the scent. It sounds amazing! I haven’t tried any scents from this house, but Gaiac sounds incredible!

    Canada

  • Gaiac is a fragrance I’ve tried before and absolutely loved. I agree with the tea like vibe of it. Its the only one I’ve tried from the house but I highly recommend it. I’m international (Toronto) and thanks for the draw!
