I adore the scent of big white florals. Bring on the indoles; I am not afraid. All flowers should be as bold in scent as the great jasmine, tuberose, gardenia, magnolia, ylang-ylang. I want my white florals to smell like an actual field of flowers blooming after dark (when the scent is at its peak), green but also deep and with a undercurrent of animalic. Tuberose lovers rejoice! LilaNur Parfums Rajni Nocturne is a fragrance focused on the narcotic scent of night blooming tuberose. The name comes from rajnigandha which in Hindi, translates directly to “night-fragrant” which is exactly what you will experience when wearing this magical perfume.

LilaNur Parfums is a brilliant collaboration between Indian designer Anita Lal who, in 2017 with her daughter Simran, developed Paro an Indian boutique based upon Vedic principles designed to foster well-being and Paul Austin (of the Austin Advisory Group) a fragrance industry and brand expert. It was a 2009 trip to India that first awakened Mr. Austin’s curiosity in the natural bounty of scented flowering plants native to this diverse country. It is with Mr. Austin’s connections to the top perfume houses in France and Ms. Lal’s deep sense of pride for her culture and longtime dream to create a perfume house that introduces the world to the vast variety of natural aromas that are such an important part of Indian culture.

Rajni Nocturne composed by Sr. Perfumer Clement Gavarry of Firmenich was selected as a finalist in The Fragrance Foundation UK Awards 2023 in both “Best Newcomer” and “Independent Fragrance” categories and I understand why. From the first spritz, I am transported back to my stay in Bangalore, India, known as the garden city for its lush greenery and temperate climate.

LilaNur Parfums Rajni Nocturne is tuberose at its greenest and most natural smelling. Bold yet moist, you can imagine the fields of tuberose under a light mist of evening dew. Rajni Nocturne has hints of creamy apricot and coconut but is not overtly sweet. Jasmine and ylang-ylang perfectly accompany and lift the night blooming flower but allows her to shine. Tuberose is the star on this stage and how elegantly she blooms on the skin and in the air around you.

When trying a great tuberose perfume I can’t help comparing it to others including Frederic Malle’s Carnal Flower. LilaNur Rajni Nocturne holds her own in a head to head and, in my opinion, Rajni Nocturne claims the crown of “Queen of Tuberoses” with her brightness shining through the darkest night.
Whether you are white floral aficionado, or have shied away from the boldness that can sometimes overwhelm, do not hesitate to try LilaNur Rajni Nocturne, you are assured of free trip straight to India and the fields of the night-blooming queen – tuberose.
Notes: Tuberose, Jasmine Grandiflorum, Ylang Ylang, Musk
