On Thursday November 16th, Brand Ambassador and Senior Contributor Hernando Courtright of CaFleureBon attended the grand reopening of The Chanel Boutique on 57th Street in New York City after a two year renovation.  While the address is unchanged (5 East 57th Street), the boutique has expanded to five floors and doubled the space to nearly 14, 0000 square feet.

The piece de resistance in the new renovated boutique is a giant sixty foot sculpture of Mademoiselle Coco Chanel’s iconic pearl necklace that was “designed by French artist Jean-Michel Othoniel, and crafted from mirrored stainless steel and gilded glass beads”. Amidst the fashion, accessories of course there was fragrance. Chanel 1957 perfume (by in-house perfumer Olivier Polge) will be exclusive to the 57th Street boutique until early 2019,  and then opened to wider distribution. Chanel 1957 perfume joins the Les Exclusifs collection (the last was Misia, 2015). The name Chanel 1957 is significant. It represents Mademoiselle Coco Chanel’s birthday (August 19th, 1883), and the number 57 signifies the store’s street address on 57th Street. 1957 was also the year that Gabrielle Chanel created the legendary two-tone sling back shoe and was awarded the Neiman Marcus Award for distinguished service in Fashion.

Nicely written release Michelyn. I have to admit to being more than disappointed with the latest releases from Chanel. It seems the house has weakened over time. Although I have to say that I love the necklace sculpture – beautiful photo as well Hernando! I’ll give this a sniff if I have a chance, but I won’t be running to the nearest Chanel counter I’m afraid.
