Laboratorio Olfattivo Tonkade Review (Marie Duchêne) +The Red Thread Draw

Laboratorio Olfattivo Tonkade perfume review

Laboratorio Olfattivo Tonkade (travel size), photo by Nicoleta

Every time I try a new scent, especially one I’ve been wanting to try for some time, my mind starts to immediately play an involuntary association game: what color is it, what does it taste like, whose voice is playing in the background, whose skin am I wearing? When I first sprayed Laboratorio Olfattivo Tonkade, I closed my eyes and I tasted, breathed and submerged in RED.

Suspiria movie still, 1977, Dario Argento

When I opened them, I saw the inside of the cab in the opening scenes of Suspiria, skin raised with goosebumps, music looping, echoed by the raging storm outside. The car slowly stops and the red lights creep in like a warm, invading presence.

Laboratorio Olfativvo Tonkade perfume review

Suspiria movie still, 2018, Luca Guadagnino

Sometimes, when watching a modern dance performance I can slowly faze out of reality, the beginning all proper and clear-cuttingly external from myself and my perception: the faces of the dancers, the distinct features, their individuality and personality transposed in movement, each small sound of their feet, the rusting of the fabric of the costumes. And then some sort of witchcraft happens: I feel drawn in, the ensemble becomes greater than the sum of all its moving limbs, transforms into a living-breathing new creation, an organism that transcends the known forms of communication and whose voice I can hear, and it can speak to ME. And when that happens, I know and I’m grateful to be in the presence of ART, in one of its many manifestations.

Tonkade’s red thread draws you in with a false feeling of comfort and easiness: it’s sweet, feels natural, it’s familiar. You can pinpoint and single-out many of its ingredients, distinct and reassuring: the vanilla is stripped of its usual heaviness and is hi-resolution, clear and tenacious; tonka is photo realistic and huge; the neroli infuses with color and delicate freshness the sweetness of the dried fruits, and cardamom adds a playful bite of spiciness.

Laboratorio Olfattivo Tonkade,

Laboratorio Olfattivo Tonkade, photo by Nicoleta

If the red thread were to lead back to its beginning, rotating on just this one path, it would still be a beautiful perfume. But, a couple of minutes in, a shadow grows: a low, dry, woody whisper tells you to come closer, come hither (“There is shadow under this red rock // (Come in under the shadow of this red rock) // And I will show you something different from either // Your shadow at morning striding behind you // Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you” T.S. Eliot)

An unseen machinist pushes the wooden level of an old control panel, the stage lights turn warm yellow, incense smoke fills the center stage and the background decor moves, hidden in darkness.  New actors join in the dance:  the amber, the woods, and the patchouli, all imposing a new rhythm and giving the whole ensemble a raw, mysterious and feral surge of energy.

The vanilla – tonka combo in Tonkade dances to the beat of its own drum, and if you are a lover of intriguing sweet and dark fragrances, I bet you will want to join in the dance, too.

Top notes: Dried Fruit, Neroli Oil, Tonka Bean, Cardamom;Middle notes: Atlas Cedar, Patchouli, Cashmeran, Vanilla; Base notes: Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Incense, Musks, Ambery Woods

I enjoyed Nicoleta’s column again… well done, my dear, and happy 8March! Now, the idea of a full team with my favorite players is insane! Vanilla, amber, dried fruits! Oh la la! Reading this I imagine brown and dark shades of orange. Don’t know why:-) I have perfumes that I associate with colors: Timbuktu L’artisan perfumier is definitely turqouise, la vie est belle is pink, kenzo jungle is purple..omG, now I realise that I am highly influenced by their boxes color. Oh, well, it’s ok, it suits me:-) I live in EU.

  • Because I’m a fan of incense, and Dario Argenta, Tonkade intrigues me. I haven’t tried any Laboratorio Olfattivo’s fragrances, but will search this brand out. Thanks for another interesting article, Mich USA

  • Shamrock1313 says:

Haven’t tried Olfattivo’s offerings but this sounds like a good – neroli, dried fruits, light vanilla and tonka – what a great sounding combination.
    Pennsylvania USA

  • Wonderful review, I enjoyed reading it a lot! I have to try this fragrance, being a big fan of incense, tonka and amber fragrances, and dark fragrances in general! Diana, Romania

  • Anita Capota says:

Nicoleta presented avsensory description of the perfume, not only olfactory.I own a bottle of Noblige and I am absolutely in love with this lemony sweet scent.Would love to try Tonkade as tonka is one of my favorite ingredients in a scent. And yes, it happened to me that at one point I associated a perfume with a color Aqua vitae with a very light blue-green,Presence d’une femme with a super soft white fuzzy blanket,on the other hand Samsara always inspires movement and I associate it with a veiled dance.Romania, Anita

  • I love Daimiris and MyLo from this very underrated house. Although I have never had an experience of smelling a fragrance and seeing a dance performance. Some perfumes do smell green or blue. I really would love to win Tonkade. I also saw on their site Tuberosis by Jean Claude Ellena. Where can I find in the USA?

  • Nicoleta always makes great reviews, i can almost smell and feel the stage. I think the vanilla-tonka combo gives the perfume mysterious shades. From Laboratorio Olfattivo i had Noblige, a lemon tart whit a little vanilla. Thank you from EU Romania.

  • I haven’t try any perfume of this house…yet. But Nicoleta’s review illustrates very well that strange feeling that an specifically scent, must be recognized and attributes to a colour. I always, intuitively choose blue or dark purple for my favorite scents…and in blind… I never failed. Byzance from Rochas is my “colour” well done, Nicoleta. EU

  • I have plenty of fragrances that evoke green and yellow but don’t think I have one that speaks to the color red. A sweet and dark fragrance that draws you in like a modern dance performance sounds lovely. Have not had a chance to check out any Laboratory Olfattivo fragrances yet, would love to give this line a try. Zoologist’s Bee is my current favorite fragrance and to me it screams a golden honey color. Regards from the USA.

  • I’ve never tried anything from this house before but I’d love to. The Dried Fruit, Neroli Oil, Tonka Bean, Cardamom, Atlas Cedar, Patchouli, Cashmeran, Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Incense, Musks, and Ambery Woods all sounds beautifully blended. Nicoleta’s review of Tonkade was greatly informative and intriguing. Thanks for the great review and the great giveaway. Commenting from Kentucky USA.

  • powderblue says:

I’ve recently found myself increasingly uninterested by the trend for titling perfumes by their ingredients, and gravitating to those houses who send their fragrances out into the world with names as well as scents that evoke a time and place i.e. Lutens, 4160 Tuesdays. This synaesthetic review elevated a lovely but rather standard collection of notes from something that sounds pretty but ultimately forgettable (at least to someone like myself who is familiar with neither the house or the perfumer), to an intriguing play on the senses (that unseen machinist), a cultural moment that I would actively seek to participate in. Sadly, I am no longer part of the EU.

  • and if you are a lover of intriguing sweet and dark fragrances, I bet you will want to join in the dance, too.

Oh I most definitely am a lover of intriguing sweet and dark fragrances and wouldn’t miss this dance for the world!
Beautiful review, as always! My eyes are spinning in black and white and I’m dancing to Tonkade already!
    Greetings from Romania.

  • Top notes: Dried Fruit, Neroli Oil, Tonka Bean, Cardamom;Middle notes: Atlas Cedar, Patchouli, Cashmeran, Vanilla; Base notes: Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Incense, Musks, Ambery Woods I am intrigued by the notes and the association with the colour red has piqued my interest. Thanks from the UK

  • Mohamed Tarek Ahmed says:

I loved the movie. I’d love to try and smell how it will be performing.
I would like to enter the giveaway. I live in Lexington, Kentucky.

  • wagnerflo says:

That was a lovely description of a fragrance. I’m not sure yet if these—in fragrance reviews rather often found—types of narrative reviews are my thing, but they are lovely none the less.

I’ve had perfumes evoke color, albeit seldomly; art forms never. Still, the notes might suggest that this one could be right up my alley. So I’d like to join the draw. Also because that would be my first fragrance from Laboratorio Olfattivo to try. I’m from Germany, EU.

  • I am intrigued by the notes and the association with my favourite colour red sounds mysterious, dark and dangerous. I have not tried anything by this house. Thanks a million from United Kingdom

  • Doni Light says:

Great synesthetic visual! Intrigued by that drydown though. Whenever I hear old wood and incense I get a perk of shadowy endearment. Originally wondered if the name came from the addition of neroli to give it a fizzy edge; but if ‘sweet and dark’ are the main players, I supposed there is something to be said about flat soda. Don’t have any L.O.’s myself, mainly because I’m full of highs. That’s a terrible pun but the best I can do in the dark. Perhaps I should turn on the lights. Canada.

  • Wonderful – I’m a fan of Italian Horror and I loved the Suspiria reference. I have not tried anything from this house, but this one sounds fantastic, and right in my wheelhouse of fragrances. I’m not the type of person that finds fragrances remind me of a color – I find they more so move me to a fleeting memory of my past. I live in Canada.

  • wildevoodoo says:

Reading the notes, my first color impression isn’t red, but after reading Nicoleta’s review I can understand where the impression of the color comes from! The clear vanilla, photorealistic tonka, and cardamom all sound incredibly appealing, as these are three of my favorite notes but I don’t like fragrances that are sickly sweet. The dry woodsy drydown also sounds lovely, and since T.S. Eliot is my favorite poet I’m thrilled that she quoted his poetry in her description! I have tried Tuberosis from Laboratorio Olfattivo. I am in the US 🙂

  • chiaravirga says:

Amazing review! I love that this fragrance has a safe appearance, but becomes so complex as the notes show by! This kind of notes are my favourites of all time.
I have tried Vanhera from Laboratorio Olfattivo, I love it: it’s a peculiar vanilla, very spicy and misterious.
I would love to try Tonkade!
    I live in Italy ☺

  • frixyminnow says:

While tonka is typically thought of as sweet and comforting, I like the Suspira direction this went in! Dark vanilla.. wood and patchouli. Would love to try. I have not tried LO frags yet. Fragrance does not evoke color or art to me but I will try perceiving it next time I smell one. Just memories. I live in the EU.

  • Natalia306 says:

I get addictive to read your articles Cafleurebon, so much to learn and enjoy.
Wow, Nicoleta’s review always fun, Interesting, colorful! I enjoyed it specially how Nicoleta share with as hers emotional and energy vibes experience! Here in article mentioned she got goosebumps as a sort of witchcraft experience from “Tonkade”, it’s very intriguing to me!
Wishing all Women in the World ❤️ love, self-respect and happyness!

  • Joshteriyaki1 says:

Great review very descriptive like the comparison to a dance. Love all the notes listed sounds very interesting would love to try this. From GA USA

  • Lovely review by Nicoleta’s of Tonkade – her words are an invitation to the dance of this perfume. Seductive, simple but eventually mysterious. I’d love to participate in this dance of smells, and by proxy, those of other senses. Enjoyed how she connected the olfactory sense with senses of touch, color, music, taste, and art in general. Unfortunately, never tried anything from this house before, but would love to. Thanks for the drawing and the lovely review. Writing from USA.

  • This house is untried for me. I love the approach Nicoleta describes to trying a new fragrance–fragrances often remind me of a place or time but I have never tried to assign them a character or color. I think I’m not creative enough for that! Thank you for the review & the draw. I’m in the US.

  • I’ve always tried to live life to the beat of my own drum and would love to try any fragrance in which TS Eliot and Suspiria are mentioned in the article. I sadly have not tried any from this house but would love a chance to try this one TN USA.

  • Laboratorio Olfattivo Tonkade reminds us that tonka is the trend now. Laboratorio Olfattivo Tonkade employs amber and woods to result in a mult-faceted warm oriental creation. USA

  • Trinity33 says:

I wasn’t aware of the significance of the red thread and I associate scents with specific colors as well. I love Nicoleta’s comparison of the unfolding of the fragrance on the skin as a choreographed dance. Amber, woods, patchouli and tonka are always welcome. I’ve never tried anything from Laboratorio Olfattivo. I’m in MD, USA.

  • patrick_348 says:

I love Nicoleta’s cultural sophistication. Anyone who can cite both SUSPIRIA and T. S. Elliot in the same review, and can see modern dance in terms of the total geometry on stage, and make the whole discussion coherent and a metaphor for a fragrance gets an A+ as a writer, imho. And her description of notes that are “sweet,” “natural” and “familiar,” and how they are later deepened with other notes that make it “raw, mysterious, and feral” is great writing about scent. I don’t know Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances at all first hand. I live in the US, in North Carolina.

  • I am intrigued about the dried fruits and cardamom with tonka bean both as a top and base note in a fragrance that seems rich, dark, and complex. Unluckily, I haven’t tried any fragrances from this line. I am in the USA.

  • This description reminds me of a LSD trip I’ve read about or maybe some of Jim Morrison’s writings. I’ve not tried any of Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances and yes certain fragrances do remind of certain colors. Texas, USA.

  • What I enjoyed most about Nicoleta’s review was how it really helped emphasise how the fragrance was unique, which today is so refreshing and intriguing to hear.

I’ve not tried anything from the house, so it’s great to learn more about it from the review.

I do get colour associations with many fragrances but not all , sometimes I associate them with a variety of other things.

    From Ireland, EU.

  • This review had me at Suspiria. I’m drawn to the interplay between comforting and mysterious. Certain scents do indeed bring to mind certain colors, though I’m sure that on my part, that’s largely influenced by the packaging, marketing, and naming of the fragrance. But matching colors to scents in their own right might be a game that I try. I’m in the US.

  • Nicoleta’s review makes me think of a mysterious, dark atmosphere in which is easy to get lost, to forget about yourself. Ivoire Balmain makes me think of a creamy off-white. I never tried a Laboratorio Olfattivo perfume, but I look forward to trying. I live in Romania.

  • I loved the way she described how the notes behave in this perfume. Like the neroli adding color and freshness and sweetness from dried fruits etc. I very much enjoy vanilla and tonka as well as many of the other notes in Tonkade. I’ve yet to try a Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrance but would certainly love to start with this one. Some fragrances can evoke a color or feeling or a place for me and I’m sure an art form to others and hopefully one day for me as well. I live in CT USA. Thank you so much for this generous draw.

  • Laurentiu says:

The combination of tonka and incense sounds really intriguing. I don’t think I have ever experienced it in a perfume before.

    Thanks for the draw!

  • Pixiedust2 says:

I’ve been waiting for a review of Tonkade! And the visuals of Suspiria only added to my lust for this. Tonka, vanilla, cardamom, woods, patchouli, this sounds like my dream fragrance. Fragrances always evoke colors for me. Tonka always brings purple to my mind. I haven’t tried any previous Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances, but this one’s at the top of my list. From Los Angeles, USA

  • Tobacco11 says:

I’ve yet to try the house of Laboratorio Olfattivo, but I’m open to new experiences.
The name Tonkade is perfect, I love Tonka- Nicoleta’s article really brings to life the notes which are some of my favourites.
    Hey from Canada!

  • rzetelskik says:

I loved the analogy between the fragrance and Guadagnino’s “Suspiria”. It creates a really vivid vision of the scent, how it creates the false feeling of comfort and cosiness only to let out a scream of terror later.
I have not yet tried any of Laboratorio Olfattivo’s creations but I am now extremely excited to do so.
    Warsaw, Poland.

  • A PARTICULAR PERFUME, WITH A STRONG AND BEWITCHING CHARACTER, ALSO I LIKE THE MINIMALIST BOTTLE.
    Linda – UE

  • It’s sweet, feels natural, it’s familiar,
So simple sentence but describes it so well, I had a chance to try it in one of local store, totally in love with this fragrance, this picture of woman’s dance I’d like to say just one more thing
“Picture says more than 1000 words” definitely describes the Laboratorio Olfattivo.
    I’m from Europe as well

  • dianacese says:

I loved the description of catharsis from the beginning of the article!

My favorite scent from Laboratorio Olfattivo is Vanhera.

    Greetings from The Netherlands.
    Diana

  • Stefan Cretu says:

I love the way you write Nicoleta and how you gradually undress a perfume in your reviews, that is not much left to discover about it, that’s how vivid your depictions are… but what I like even more than that is winning free stuff 😀
    Stefan, EU

  • bigscoundrel says:

I really love the way the vanilla, tonka, dried fruits, neroli, and cardamom blend together creating an artistic sensation of the color red. Incense fragrances invoke darker colors and a gothic art form for me, and of course there’s the obvious green color that comes with notes of foliage, leaves, and grass. New Jersey, USA.

  • Big fan of deep, dark, spicy, rich and sweet fragrances. This one sounds remarkable. I’ve never tried Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances so this would be a first! USA

  • Camille Sheil says:

Again, I am absolutely blown away by the descriptions! Absolutely stunning! This writing is a work of art all into itself! Yes, certain perfumes give the senses of color and also of dances, but I can’t say which dances because it’s its own composition. I don’t have synesthesia very strongly, but do have impressions of colors through smell and also sensations. Certain smells are scratchy and others are weepy, while others are hard like metal. I very much appreciate the attention to detail like in the vanilla, being hi-resolution and clear! I understand that and have experienced both deeper or darker vanilla’s as well as light and airy, clearer ones. It helps tremendously in both selecting fragrances as well as helping me identify more clearly my own tastes. Thanks so much for this opportunity and amazing bit of art in this article!

  • Camille Sheil says:

I forgot to add that I live in New Hampshire USA and that I have never yet had the pleasure of sampling any of the Laboratorio Olfattivo’s fragrances but very much want to!

  • Intriguing sweet and dark is right up my alley. On occasion a fragrance will bring a color to mind but now with all fragrances. I’m not familiar with any of the fragrances from this house but this one sounds wonderful.
    FL, USA

  • The notes in this fragrance tick all my boxes. Yes. I AM a lover orf sweet and dark fragrances. Nicoleta throws in Suspiria and I am hooked! I am in the USA.

  • When I worked as a pastry cook, that was my first encounter with Tonka. In America they are not approved as a food item, but my chef still found a way to get her paws on it and we incorporated it into our desserts. While I am no longer a pastry cook, this fragrance sounds like it speaks the language of baked goods to me. I have not tried any of Laboratorio Olfattivo’s fragrances but this is the one I would want to try! USA

  • BostonScentGuy says:

Loved the connection to Suspiria here as a horror movie fan myself. The notes are also glorious sounding and right up my alley. I haven’t tried many scents from this brand, but I definitely feel like I’d love to try this one. In terms of art–I always feel glamorous French perfumes of old are very impressionistic. They are almost muddled, confusing and too saturated up close, but glorious from afar in their sillage and clearly meant to be experienced in that way. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

The brand describes Tonkade as a sensual dance evolving into a chorus. Interestingly, the word ‘gourmand’ is never mentioned, despite the notes given although the scent is described as being sweet. There are many fragrances that to me visualize the symphony, the ballet, a song, etc. These fragrances with their shifting shapes and intermittent players are so interesting even if the ride to the end is not always fun or easy, but never a regret to take the trip. I am surprised that I haven’t tested anything from this house to date, but Tantrico and Nun have been added to my list to try. Thank you for this generous draw. USA

  • redwheelbarrow says:

Oh wow I loved this review! The comparison to dance and the shadow coming in at the end with those darker fragrances really paints a picture. I’ve never tried this house but Tonkade sounds so so good! Thanks for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • This sounds right up my alley. I love vanilla and tonka bean fragrances. My favorite as of right now is Van Cleef and Arpels Bois Dore. This sounds a little darker, and more of night time scent to me. Thanks for the draw! US

  • dana.sandu says:

I’m not entering the draw, but I needed to stop to check this out. Nicoleta’s brain is something I wish we could bottle–well done on another explosive review, you beautiful folk!!!
    Mind cracked.

  • This perfume sounds amazing! Neroli is a love of mine as is cardamom, and I’m looking for a new vanilla love. Most of these notes for me don’t automatically scream “red” – more dusty pink, celadon and deep browns for the vanilla and tonka – I would be so curious to smell it and compare my impressions! In Canada. Thank you for the review!

  • Reading this review was reading poetry. So well put Nicole. Have not smelled any fragrance from the house but this one has put it on my radar. Interesting with Dried fruits and would love to try this someday. Reader from Los Angeles, CA, USA

  • ThatMulattoDude says:

Really enjoyed the perspective of Nicoleta in this piece. I am the father of 2 daughters who dance so i definitely identify with the feelings she expressed. The notes themselves…florals, spices, sweet notes, woods and resins…creating a mysterious, addictive elixir sounds intriguing to me. I appreciate the chance to win this giveaway. Thanks from Virginia, USA.

  • Excellent review by Nicoleta. This fragrance sounds amazing. Like a dance of sensual aromas in a ballad of love. Thanks for the draw. I live in CA, USA.

  • Haven’t tried anything from this house but this would be a nice place to begin. Be nice to have for winter. US

  • well you had me at neroli, but the rest of the notes w/it sound lovely. yes, i believe “certain fragrances evoke a color or art”, @ least an environment/experience. lastly nope, not familiar with laboratorio olfattivo’s, but i am now! thank you from california

  • I like how Nicoleta describes the evolution of Tonkade from a feeling of comfort and easiness up to the moment where emerging notes make it raw and mysterious. I know a few Laboratorio Olfattivos and my favourite is Cozumel. I am in France, EU.

  • Amanda32828 says:

Another great review by Sr. Contributor Nicole Tomsa. Sadly, I haven’t been lucky enough to smell anything from the Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrance line, I looked online and can’t find a point of sale anywhere close by. I think I’ll order a sample kit in the near future. I feel very intrigue about this fragrance top notes because they are exactly what I been looking for in a tonka beans fragrance. Thank you for the opportunity to participate in the giveaway. I’m commenting from Orlando, Fl.

  • Tonkade’s red thread draws you in with a false feeling of comfort and easiness: it’s sweet, feels natural, it’s familiar. You can pinpoint and single-out many of its ingredients. I could feel the surge of energy reading this review. I was immediately drawn to it.
    I live in USA.
    I haven’t tried any Laboratorio Olfattivo’s fragrances.

  • Nicoleta’s review was so evocative as usual. I enjoyed the Suspiria reference – I have watched the original recently and indeed it’s a movie that leaves a strong impression. I don’t get much art references from perfumes – for some reason, it’s only the powdery or the tuberose/ white flower heavy ones which somehow evoke cabaret dancing for me. I have never tried a Laboratorio Olfattivo creation before and this seemingly solar perfume with a mystery could make a good start. I am in the EU. Thanks for the draw.

  • Thanks, Nicoleta for this beautiful and very interesting review!!
The best criteria of good perfume ( and art particular) for me is as you said in this article “can speak to ME”.
If it is sweet and dark sane times ..it is for me..)))
    US

  • As in this review, I do love when color is used as a descriptor for perfume. It helps me imagine what it might smell like, but I wonder if it is as subjective as smell. Cardamom with vanilla sounds amazing, especially in a dark bottle. Dark colors are what I think of with my most loved perfumes. I have never tried anything from Laboratorio Olfattivo, so thank you! I am in Oregon.

  • I can relate on many levels with Nicoleta’s experiences – how she is drawn in the art piece she is witnessing, how she associates colors, pictures and tunes with fragrances. Sometimes, I also ask myself – what I associate this scent with, but sometimes the synaesthesia is very strong and I don’t even ask a question that I am washed away by a tide of synaesthetic visions in my head. The last one was the violet-purple-mauve feeling I got with Montmartre by Morph Parfums.
But let’s get back to Laboratorio Olfattivo. I have tried a few of their creations, and some of them evoke vivid associations – Nerotic (the best of Prince, and another purple baby, not black), Salina (the scene at the waterfall inThe Blue Lagoon with Brooke Shields), Kashnoir (golden lake, golden river, golden bay – anything golden and rippling).
I am in Bulgaria, EU. Thank you for the generous opportunity!

  • “The vanilla – tonka combo in Tonkade dances to the beat of its own drum, and if you are a lover of intriguing sweet and dark fragrances, I bet you will want to join in the dance, too.” YES!! I love a good, gourmand vanilla fragrance and I have never tried any scents from Laboratorie Olfattivo, so I’d be so thrilled to get this one!
    I live in the US.

  • Matt Peterson says:

I loved how Nicoleta tied this in with RED. Such an awesome tie in especially with no red anywhere in the packaging. Would love to try this. I love Tonka and Patch. I am in USA

  • I’ve never thought about fragrance and colors but my imagination does race for an association. There are some I have blindly bought and taken on a vacation for a specific event and I am carried back each time I wear it.
The dried fruit is interesting. The other notes just sound luscious. I would not complain if chosen. USA

  • Michael Prince says:

Nicoleta, I loved your review of Laboratorio Olfattivo Tonkade. I like how you related to dancing and the movie Suspiria with the fragrance. A nice blend of dried fruits, spicy cardamom, the sweetness of vanilla and tonka, and amber, woods, and patchouli to round out the base and end the dance. I haven’t tried any other fragrances from Laboratorio Olfattivo’s.   I do believe fragrances can evoke a color or an art form the way each note and smell can make us feel. I am from the USA.

  • Nice review!! Sounds very interesting: heaviness of vanilla, warm tonka, delicately fresh neroli, playful bite of spiciness and whisper of woods and dance of patchouli and amber!!!
Unfortunately, I have never tested ant Laboratorio Olfattivo perfumes.
    USA

  • I’ve never made a connection between color and fragrance. nor have I tried any of the Laboratorio Olfattivo’s fragrances. I’m very drawn to the notes in this fragrance. Loved the review and thank you for the draw. I’m in the USA.

  • Nicoleta’s whole review is a feast to my senses, I really enjoyed reading it so many sounds, visions, smells, emotions even thoughts of how Tonkade perfume reacts on one’s skin, simply amazing to smell and craving to experience! What truly draw my attention is Nicoleta’s comment:

“The vanilla – tonka combo in Tonkade dances to the beat of its own drum, and if you are a lover of intriguing sweet and dark fragrances, I bet you will want to join in the dance, too.”

Yes I love sweet and dark fragrance and Tonkade makes me definitely want to join the dance!

Thank you both for the lovely review and draw, I live in EU, Greece.

  • I liked how Nicoleta’s article dived inside the perfume…first, solar and carefree, and then mysterious and summoning. Really like most horror movies. I have never tried this house before and I am in Europe.!

  • petergigov says:

Laboratorio Olfattivo Tonkade with its sweetness of the dried fruits and spicy cardamom, transitioning to amber , woods, and patchouli feels like in enigmatic woman I know, florist in the days, and vamp woman in the night 🙂

Nicoleta thanks for the fine work .

Dried fruits and vanilla are two notes that I really love…. no matter how they are used (almost). I love just about any fragrance that features dried fruits. Vanilla is a favorite of mine as well, but that is a favorite of most, I’m sure. Put these two together with cardamom, tonka, and incense?!?! I am definitely in! Throw in the other notes that make up this mouthwatering and comforting fragrance, and it sounds as if this one will be a winner, for sure! It already sounds like a masterpiece, to me, and Nicoleta has made it that much more captivating. I like the whole reference to red… it gives a visual to the scent and I love the way Nicoleta approaches fragrance in this sense. I, too, do the same thing…. I tend to look at fragrances in color… I will pick out my fragrances based on the colors I am wearing, or how it feels out that day, or where I am going (the mood of the place, or the look of the place, or feel of it…) I am so glad she expressed this in her review of Tonkade. I have heard so many great things about the Laboratorio Olfattivo brand, and I have wanted to try Alambar, Alkemi and Vanhera for quite some time now. Tonkade has been added to the list of must-trys as well now. Thank you Nicoleta, for beautifully letting us see red with your review on Tonkade! I truly enjoyed the read. Thank you Laboratorio Olfattivo for your generosity and for this amazing opportunity! It is greatly appreciated! Thank you Michelyn, for everything you do for this community, and a huge Happy Anniversary to your parents today, March 11th! Without them getting together, we would not have our fearless fragrance leader! Commenting from Delaware, US! Good luck to all!

  • Dried fruits, vanilla and woods – sounds good to me . I wonder if the mysterious and feral surge of energy will get me the same way, like it did with Nicoleta? 😉
    Nice opportunity, thank you.
USA most of the year, and Germany from time to time

  • Laboratorio Olfattivo i know because of Alkemi . Nice balsamic semi gourmand with smoky touches. Don’t know why , but i get decent dose of red wine in the base.
Tonkade attracts me with its non gourmand sweetness , mixed with incense.
    Thanks for the draw.

  • I liked the imagery and the feeling of watching dance and being a part of art evoked in this review. I also like the idea the this is a fragrance that is very much it’s own breed. I’ve never tried Laboratorio Olfattivo’s fragrances before. I live in the USA.

Man, I’m a sucker for a fragrance with cardamom. This seems like such a warm, inviting fragrances with the gourmand, vanilla and incense aspects.

From your review, it reminds me of waiting at a traffic light at night, with the red just washing into the car, flashing neon signs everywhere, while I am comfortable and cozy in the car.

  • Laboratorio Olfattivo is completely new to me. Sweet and natural smelling , spicy , nothing more to add , we already have a winner.
Positive vibes I get from it, not sure why Nicoleta is relating it to a horror movie (fast Google check)
    Thanks for the generosity

  • I really enjoyed Nicoleta’s review and incorporating dance to describe Tonkade! A fragrance with dried fruits, vanilla, tonka beans, amber, incense, and musks I have to get my hands on. I am so intrigued as to how well they play together and how well they develop. Thanks for the giveaway and I live in the US!

  • Every time I rate a fragrance, or when I have to describe it I relate the smell to some kind of food, or simple ingredient.
Tonkade review reminded me of Cardamom Coffee Cake I do I’m my bakery every day. Works with almost all kinds of fruits, I prefer cranberries, pomegranate or blueberries .
I’m not familiar with Laboratorio Olfattivo .
Appreciate the review and the giveaway campaign.

  • Laboratorio Olfattivo is such an underated house. I do own bottles of Alambar and Daimiris , and i love both. Value for the money is great.
Now sure about the US prices , because i bought Alambar and Daimiris when i was in Europe , but over there both are € 98,00/100ml .
I highly recommend to all fragrance lovers on Cafleurebon to get the sample set .
I’m in for amber, patch , vanilla and dried fruits new creation.

  • The grand presence of vanilla and cardamon notes leave me salivating. Never got the pleasure of trying a Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrance but, to me, absolutely yes! I see and feel certain colors with some fragrances. VA, USA.
