This fragrance was born out of a specific request from Daniela Caon. She’d been asking me for a Jasmine Oud perfume for a long time and I found her request simply fascinating. Our goal was to combine the hypnotic and seductive power of jasmine with the multifaceted power of Oud. Julien Rasquinet, whom I have always admired, seemed perfect for this challenge. The final result is just splendid.”- Roberto Drago of KAON and Laboratorio Olfattivo

“There is no light without darkness.” This evocative phrase perfectly encapsulates the essence of Laboratorio Olfattivo’s newest creation, Oud in White. Composed by the acclaimed perfumer Julien Rasquinet, this fragrance unveils an intricate dance between shadow and light—between the sensual, hypnotic brightness of jasmine and the deep, mysterious darkness of oud.

I wanted to create a harmonious interplay between indolic floral notes and the bold, leathery oud. This duality creates a captivating scent that balances the wild beauty of jasmine with the depth and mystery of oud.”Julien Rasquinet.

Julien Rasquinet (Senior Perfumer at CPL Aromas and known for his work with brands including Frédéric Malle, Creed, Amouage, and Lancôme), was the ideal choice to bring Oud in White to life. His expertise perfectly captures the delicate balance of light and shadow that defines this fragrance, blending the luminous jasmine with the deep, mysterious oud. Laboratorio Olfattivo Oud in White opens with a radiant burst of fruity and zesty top notes, creating a bright, luminous halo effect. The ripe, golden juice of pear mingles with the red, vibrant promise of raspberry, offering a flash of brightness, signaling the entrance, and drawing you in.

The fleeting brightness fades as the door closes behind, and the stage fills with the scent of smoke and burned woods, raising mysteriously in the beams of light. In steps the Diva—jasmine sambac absolute—a bloom of unmatched intensity and sensuality, flanked by her companions: the refined warmth of cedarwood and the velvety, apricot-like sweetness of osmanthus. Together, this trio begins its jaw-dropping performance, a beacon of white light rising vertically, carried by the soprano’s voice. The florals are now center stage—indolic, fleshy, and irresistibly sensual.

“Where there is much light, the shadow is deep.” Strong shadows grow in the presence of light, and soon after, the long fingers of oud begin to creep in. The seats of this imaginary opera house are all upholstered in leather, and as our fingers press into the worn armrests, the rich scent of leather rises, making the air thick and warm. Deep, resinous Cambodian oud intertwines with the smoky, slightly animalic touch of labdanum, creating a drydown that feels rich, textured, and irresistibly warm — like light of the sunset filtering through the texture of a suede theater curtain slowly descending.

A wild beauty with a deep sense of mystery—Laboratorio Olfattivo Oud in White is complex yet comfortable to wear, perfect for those who cherish the indolic brilliance of florals and the strong force of oud. It offers a sensory journey, an exploration of the spaces between shadow and light in a perfume that plays with contrasts that reveal beauty in its most captivating form. It feels like wearing your most seductive perfume, paired with your favorite worn-in leather jacket worn on top of naked skin – a scent that embodies both sensuality and a sense of absolute power.

Top Notes: Pear, Ginger Co2, Raspberry; Heart Notes: Jasmine Sambac Abs, Cedarwood Oil Virginia, Osmanthus Abs; Base Notes: Cistus Labdanum, Esterel Green Abs, Oud Al Safii, Sandalwood Oil Sri Lanka

Nicoleta Tomsa review of Laboratorio Olfattivio oud in white wove a spell around me. How wonderful that Daniela Caon wanted a floral oud, and that my favorite perfumer Julien Rasquinet made it. “His expertise perfectly captures the delicate balance of light and shadow that defines this fragrance.” The halo effect on Cambodian oud sparked my interest. I live in the EU

  • Oh for a floral oud… Julien happens to be the perfumer of one of my all-time best fragrances which is Creed Royal Oud. That only makes my excitement for Oud in White even deeper. I cannot wait to try it!

This fragrance encapsulates the perfect blend between light and dark, clean and dirty, musk and oud. A dichotomy for those who love a fragrance that travels the spectrum, starting with a bright and juicy opening that then ends in a dark, oudy venture. Nicoleta hit the nail in the coffin with the analogy of wearing your most seductive perfume paired with a leather jacket on top of naked skin. That’s the journey you go on with this fragrance from the top to heart and base notes. I’m located in the USA.

  • Jasmine and Oud. Floral combined with the dark and resinous accord–There is no light without darkness. Nicoleta emphasizes the delicate balance of light and shadow that defines this scent; it’s dark and sensual, yet complex and comfortable to wear. That is a scent worth trying for oneself.

  • Nicoleta’s description totally hooked me—especially the contrast between the bright jasmine and the dark, smoky oud. It feels like a whole story unfolding in scent. The idea of the jasmine taking the stage like a “diva,” surrounded by cedarwood and osmanthus, is so vivid; I can almost picture the drama in a theater setting. And that leathery, resinous drydown with Cambodian oud? It sounds like it would be warm and powerful but still wearable. I need to experience this for myself—definitely intrigued to see if it delivers that wild, mysterious vibe in person

  • Thank you Nicoleta for the review! Sounds like a very intriguing scent. I enjoyed learning about all of the different dichotomies Rasquinet was able to include in the fragrance — light and dark, bright and mysterious, gentle and strong. Would love to be able to give this one a try!

  • I like pretty much everything I have tried from Julien Rasquinet and although I do not have much experience with Laboratorio Olfattivo, I am sure that Oud in White is going to be another one of his creations that I am gonna enjoy. A floral oud with a touch of raspberry and leather sounds very very good to me. Thanks! Europe

Between the smoky quality with the fruits of raspberry, pear, and the apricot-like quality of Osmanthus, this perfume smells like the darkest of fruity florals. Even with all the imagery, I can’t imagine how good this really is! Thank you for doing a giveaway! From Portland, USA.

  • Oud and jasmine seems such and intriguing combo, i love when a composition speaks in olfactory contrats, and Julien Rasquinet is the perfect nose to bring to life such a scent. I love what this brand does and would be thrilled to get my nose on this.
    Thanks for the draw !

Oud in white is an interesting concept. I love oud and the many facets to that unique luxury. Here we have the use of several absolutes in the mid. I think this beefs up the overall composition and gives it legs to endure a lengthy wear. Never heard of oud al saffi but I will be looking into it. From Jacksonville, NC.

  • The combination of jasmine and oud is particularly captivating and sparks my interest. The fragrance opens with a fresh and fruity blend of pear, ginger, and raspberry, which transitions into a heart of sensual jasmine and cedarwood. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

  • I love Roberto’s opening comments about this fragrance. Every time I see a photo of Julien I get serious hair envy! I love that it is complex, yet easy to wear (I have a few in my collection that are too complex to have many occasions to wear). I can almost smell with after reading the description of the opera house. Sounds divine. Thanks for showcasing this fragrance. USA.

  • These notes don’t sound like they should work at all together, yet clearly by the review they do! Indolic lush fleshy, smoky woody dark and bright fruity beams…VERY interesting! I live in the US.

  • Laboratorio Olfattivo’s Oud in White feels like a carefully orchestrated dance of opposites. The article captures its allure by highlighting Roberto Drago’s vision of blending jasmine’s brightness with the rich depth of oud, realized by perfumer Julien Rasquinet. As the scent unfolds, it takes you from a vibrant fruity opening to a smoky, leathery dry-down, crafting a sensory journey that’s both raw and refined. This fragrance sounds perfect for anyone who loves the idea of wearing a scent with deep contrasts and bold sensuality…(me!)

I love a scent that draws a picture, or tells a story. The juxtaposition of light and dark here is fascinating and Julien has created a scent I most definitely want to get my nose on. Together, along with its other facets, jasmine and oud create something really interesting. Oud In White has my attention. I live in Oregon.

  • Patricia R. says:

This review is captivating and the scent sounds addictive, dramatic and exudes silent power. The contrast of darkness and light draws me in. Jasmin, oud, fruit. Light, darkness and life (juice) in between. I live in the EU.

  • Oud and Jasmine sounds like a brilliant combination, I would loooove to try it!
What sparked my interest is how Laboratorio Olfattivo Oud in White perfectly captures the delicate balance of light and shadow that defines this fragrance, blending the luminous jasmine with the deep, mysterious oud. It is complex yet comfortable to wear, perfect for those who cherish the indolic brilliance of florals and the strong force of oud.

  • I’ve been looking for an indolic perfume that would smell more than just flowers lately and according to this review I might have found it! the mysterious and leathery dry down intrigues me as much as the light and shadow game
    Italy

  • I am intrigued by the juxtaposition of light/dark as a metaphor or stand in for the scent contrast – here, oud annd jasmine are positioned to be opposites. I have a great interest in this scent as I’ve always loved both Jasmine and oud as they remind me of my 2nd home (of my heart) in Morocco. Sounds beautiful to me!

  • I loved reading this evocative review of Laboratorio Olfattivo Oud in White. The description brilliantly captures the duality of jasmine’s brightness against the mysterious depth of oud, evoking that perfect balance between light and shadow. The reviewer’s storytelling—likening the scent journey to an opera performance—brought each note to life, from the juicy pear and raspberry opening to the rich, smoky leather and oud base. This is a fragrance that invites wearers to step into an enchanting world, as described so vividly. Thanks for the draw, from the USA.

  • Thank you for your impressions and vivid descriptions Nicoleta. Your descriptions created vivid images in my imagination. As a fan of strong contrasts, a fragrance uniting light and darkness is naturally appealing to me. Additionally I am already a big fan of Julien‘s work. Thank you also for this great opportunity as always.
Much love and best wishes from Paris, France!

  • Oud in White sounds like a study in contrasts. The heady indolic jasmine and fruity and zesty top notes offer brightness and brilliance. The oud and leather and smoky, animalic labdanum represents the dark and shadow. As Nicoleta says this sounds like a very seductive perfume. MD, USA.

  • Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! This one has me excited! I am a huge fan of Laboratorio Olfattivo and the hairs on the back of my neck stand up each time they drop a new release, especially in the noir line. I just heard of this one a couple days ago and I am thrilled to read more details about it here. I love the concept of light against dark, and if there was ever a house that would take that idea in a truly innovative direction, its this one. Florals and bright fruits juxtaposed against oud and labdanum – yes, please! I’m really excited to learn it has a leathery quality to it, as that was not at all what I expected. Cannot wait to get my nose on this one. Will be ordering samples immediately. Best of luck to all. I live in NC, USA.

  • FragranceIsMe says:

Oh my goodness. A floral oud…not the typical rose oud…but a jasmine oud. This sounds wonderful. A fragrance that captures both sensuality and power. I like it. My interest is deeply piqued. Looking forward to the journey this Julien Rasquinet creation has to offer.

  • I live jasmine and have been thinking for some time that the jasmine-oud should be more explored by perfumers. Therefore my high interest to try this, especially that I hold J. Rasquinet as an extremely skilled perfumer! (Not surprising considering hewas trained but P. Bourdon, if I am not mistaken.)
    Greetings from Germany

  • WONDERFUL COMPOSITION, I love oud and this declination is beautiful, a brilliant and seductive perfume that I would like to have.
I will go to the perfumery to try OUD IN WHITE and I already know I will love it. Laboratorio Olffatto is a brand that I love, I tested Vanagloria, divine incensed vanilla.

  • Nicoleta talks about an absolutely heavenly drydown that I would love to experience on my own: “Deep, resinous Cambodian oud intertwines with the smoky, slightly animalic touch of labdanum, creating a drydown that feels rich, textured, and irresistibly warm — like light of the sunset filtering through the texture of a suede theater curtain slowly descending.”

  • Interesting contrast here – Oud in White. Oud by definition is something you would not associate with ‘white’, more so when the bottle and the box – the entire presentation – is black. It really makes you curious about the liquid inside. I like this idea. Thanks. Europe

  • Such an special fragrance! I don’t think I have smelled a jasmine-centric fragrance with a strong oud note in the bottom, and yet Nicoleta makes it sound glorious and intriguing. Also, the leather seems to play an important role, and I would love to smell this trio of flowers, leather and oud. Opulent and sensual from two of the most voluptuous flowers (jasmine and osmanthus), and then strong and commanding in the bottom notes. The raspberry and pear opening also caught my attention, and also ginger, which I love, even though Nicoleta didn’t linger on this specific note during her impressions.
    I live in the EU.

  • Oh I am confident this is going to be a love for me. I always love his work and I’m a big Jasmine, Osthmanthus and Oud fan. The combination along with cedar, labdanum and ginger sounds so rich, full, complex yet having buoyancy. I’m so excited to try it!

  • Combining jasmine and oud must require an expert’s sensibilities, since both can be so assertive all on their own. The fruity, uplifting opening is a nice segue into the central floral accord featuring heady jasmine sambac absolute, and more so the sueded oud. Nicoleta’s review suggests Rasquinet found the right balance to make the most of these materials. Wonderful presentation as well.

    I’m in the USA.

  • The name for this fragrance sounds perfect. I’ve gotten a bit weary of the classic (common?) oud and rose combo, but the concept of oud and jasmine? Hmmmm! I am very intrigued to see how indolic (or not) the jasmine is combined with the oud and how that interplays with the animalic aspects of the oud. The other ingredients sound bright, lively, and dare I say, white complementing too. I live in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • I’m truly captivated by the description of Oud in White! The blend of cambodian oud with bright, fresh notes sounds absolutely enchanting. Fragrances that tell a story are my favorite, and this one seems like it would take me on a beautiful journey. I already have some of Laboratorio Olfattivo’s creations such as Tiglio Mirabilis, Sacreste and Miss_U and I believe this would be a wonderful addition! I’m from Italy, EU
