Laboratorio Olfattivo Mandarino Review (Jean-Claude Ellena) + Love Letter to Italy Draw

Laboratorio Olfattivo Mandarino review

Laboratorio Olfattivo Mandarino apped by Nicoleta

Do certain notes make you want to do your happy dance? For master perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena, the answer is a decided “oui.” Citrus, specifically mandarin essence, is, what is what M. Ellena reaches for to give his fragrances “a radiant smile,” the kind you might find on your lips when the sky is a perfect azure and possibility stretches out like an endless road.

Or on an afternoon of hot sun beaming through air thick with the smell of tart tree fruit, where, in the near distance, the trickle of an ancient fountain burbles like a happy baby. Laboratorio Olfattivo Mandarino, is a Frenchman’s love letter to Italy, to summer past, simple pleasures, and pure happiness.

Ellena describes his love of all things Italian as a panacea for the greyness that can creep up: “On days when I am overwhelmed by what Baudelaire called “spleen”, a nice word that covers a sense despondency, boredom, melancholy and restlessness, all I have to do is make the decision to cross the border and go to Italy, just an hour and a half away from my house; then I am happy. This country is redolent of happiness.”

And so, too, is Laboratorio Olfattivo Mandarino. It is generously fruity and deliciously refreshing, the way a perfect glass of homemade lemonade is on a parched day. With a generous first spray, Mandarino unleashes a huge wave of vigorous mandarin and a tart blackcurrant the size of a bowling ball. Compared to other fruits in the orange family, mandarin has less astringency and more pulpy sweetness. Which is not to suggest that it has no zing – the opening is all drippy, tangy juice, with an herbaceous quality not unlike basil. This slightly anisic note adds a refreshing counterpoise to the fruit. Right now, Mandarino smells like that perfect summer cocktail you’ve been waiting for someone to invent.

In a short time, the sweetness gives way to facets of rind and green stem as the mandarin note rounds out. In tandem, the blackcurrant takes on darker berry notes so jammy that I almost want to spread Mandarino on toast. The citrus bubbles up again. For a while, the two fruits trip past each other in a lighthearted race, neither quite winning over the other, until they merge with some light skin soft musk.

Laboratorio Olfattivo Mandarino is a cologne and can be worn on its own or layers with other colognes and perfumes. If, like me, you love the carefree lightness of colognes, particularly in hot weather, but despair of their transience, Mandarino’s zestiness, anchored by that piquant blackcurrant, keeps its verve long after many of its fellows have sauntered off into their soapy-musky hinterland. While I won’t make the claim that it lasts all day, Mandarino does stick around long enough for you to wear it out for the evening. But do reapply, and often – that opening is pure giggle and worth reliving frequently.

Ellena’s grandmother was Peidmontese, and the aromas of his childhood are present in Mandarino. But they could be from anyone’s childhood, the fragrance hinting at oranges plucked from the tree, Ribena juice boxes, hot dry days on holiday someplace where laughter rises and falls everywhere like the scales of an aria. If you want an instant shot of uncomplicated joy, this is for you.

Notes: Italian mandarin, blackcurrant, white musk.

  • I have not try Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances. I like the idea of a fresh fragrance, Tom Ford Neroli Portofino forte comes to mine. I have been to Italy, for some reason or another the scent reminded me of Sicilian landscape.

  • Mandarin is one of the best citrus notes. It’s sweet and deep and goes well with spices. I’m also intrigued by the blackcurrant note. Those two combined should be delicious. I have a sample of Alambar by Laboratorio Olfattivo and it is certainly a remarkable amber.
So many aromas take me to my happy place, but I’ll name a few. Iris, rose, amber, vanilla, cherry tobacco, immortelle, booze, fresh lemon zest. I guess scents just makes me happy in general. I live in Denmark, EU.

  • I have not tried one of these fragrances yet but what appeals to me most is the bright, citrusy opening. I am a big fan of fragrances that have really bright openings that kind of pop. USA

  • Mandarins are for me definitely best smelling and testing of all citrus fruits. Lauryn’s review really made me want to smell great fresh mandarins you can find along the Mediterranean shores. Just sit somewhere in a little back yard under a tree and be happy that it is still warm. Enjoy these last weeks of summer. I am also intrigued about the mandarine – blackcurrant combination and how these notes work in tandem. I have never heard of Laboratorio Olfattivo before, so after this review I’ll definitely check them out! I am from Illinois, US.

  • I have a feeling I will be impressed with Laboratorio Olfattivo Mandarino. I did not know Ellena is quite fascinated with Italy. Citrus smell does evoke happiness in many people. I have a fragrance with quite a similar bottle shape as Laboratorio Olfattivo Mandarino that also happens to be centered around citrus (cannot recall name) and I love it. USA

  • Oh the joys of citrus. These do take you to a happy place. I love how she described a wave of mandarin and black current. Sign me up. I enjoy these type of scents when I need a boost. Which seems to be often now a days. I like how she describes the notes dance and then meld as a nice soft musk. Sound like an all around beauty. A large decant of Cozumel followed by a bottle of Alambar are two Laboratorio Olfattivo’s that I enjoy. Jasmine and oddly Licorice notes take me to a happy place. In the USA. Thank you for review Lauryn.

  • Lauryn makes this sound like an uplifting perfume; “he fragrance hinting at oranges plucked from the tree, Ribena juice boxes, hot dry days on holiday someplace where laughter rises and falls everywhere like the scales of an aria.” Aromas that take me to my happy place are neroli, iris leathers and cardamon. I have never tried Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances. I live in the US.

  • A perfect summer cocktail sounds uplifting. A joyful escape. I don’t know the brand. I’d love to try this. My happy scents are citrus: orange/mandarin, lemon, yuzu, grapefruit. And rosemary. And jasmine. And forest smells. Petrichor/rain. I’m in CA, USA

  • What I like about Laboratorio Olfattivo Mandarino is how, joyful and uplifting it sounds, perfect for these sometimes gloomy times. Summer is ending but there was little of the summer-y delight and upbeat quality that is usually associated with summer, for many people. And it continues, as autumn and winter arrive. So Laboratorio Olfattivo Mandarino seems perfect for what remains of summer, and even the colder months ahead. Why not? Enjoyed Lauryn’s review of Laboratorio Olfattivo Mandarino, especially where she says, “If you want an instant shot of uncomplicated joy, this is for you.”. Haven’t tried this house, yet, but would love to. Thanks for the review and the draw. Writing from the USA.

  • Brad Woolslayer says:

This sounds like a very uplifting citrus fragrance that balances sweet mandarin and tart blackcurrant. I haven’t tried anything from Labatorio Olfattivo yet. Happy aromas for me include mint, ginger, and fig.

  • Mandarins for me are new year. On the New Year evenings pealing and sniffing them was the best thing. I wish I can put my hands on this. I like holiday smells that take me to the home where I am a child and a lot of good memories.

  • Oh this makes me homesick for my mother in law’s home in the American Riviera, Santa Barbara! She has the most amazing meyer lemon crossed with tangerine trees and I dream of that refreshing sweetness since sweltering in Florida!!! This review was beautiful! I would cherish every drop of this perfume especially since my husband is Italian and it would evoke lovely memories! Thanks so much for the opportunity! I’m in Florida USA

  • This sounds like a happy fragrance! I like that it’s uncomplicated with only three listed notes. The quality must be exceptional to give the complexity noted in Lauryn’s review. I also appreciate the longevity seems to be quite good as colognes tend to disappear much too quickly on me. I’ve not tried any other Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances. Commenting from the US.

  • Great review Lauryn! I am a huge fan of Jean Claude Ellen’s and would really enjoy this by the article!
    Cheers from NY, U.S.

  • Always spritzing something citrusy during the warmer months. I like that it can be layered with other fragrances or worn on its own. I haven’t tried any Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances. Thanks for the opportunity. Mich USA

  • LinePlaneVolume says:

This gives me the sense that Mandarino does stick around longer than the typical cologne: “With a generous first spray, Mandarino unleashes a huge wave of vigorous mandarin and a tart blackcurrant the size of a bowling ball.” I have yet to try anything from Laboratorio Olfattivo! But, I am generally taken to a happy place by greener citrus smells, like Azemour les Orangers, at least if we’re talking about summer scents. 🙂

Haven’t tried the house, but love citrus frags especially with mandarin and blackcurrant. Sounds like a perfect fit in my collection.

  • Definitely can relate to that refreshing feeling of having a cold glass of lemonade on a hot day. But what sold me was the herbaceous quality that Lauryn mentioned. Basil is easily my favourite herb and if there’s a touch of greenness in a citrus fragrance, I just find it that much more enjoyable to wear. Great to hear that it layers well too! Haven’t tried anything from the brand yet so this would be a wonderful introduction. MI, USA.

  • Jeez, I’d love to be able to drive 30 minutes and be in Italy. When Lauryn said she wanted to spread Mandarino on toast I was a little taken aback, but this fragrance does sound super nice! She had me at light colognes in hot weather, just what I’m looking for! I’ve never tried Laboratorio Olfattivo before, but I’d love to. Citrus, tea and other green fragrances always take me to my happy place.

    California, US

  • Haven’t tried Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances before but have heard great things about them! I definitely love the bottle design, and the combination of Italian mandarin, blackcurrant, and white musk sounds wonderful.
    Florida, USA

  • I adore citrus fragrances and this one sounds like it won’t disappoint. I’ve never tried LO fragrances. Bright citrus fragrances definitely take me to my happy place.

  • What a happy Mandarino based Lauryn’s review, pictures, photos and content make me smile and just for this I thank you all : Maestro Perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena, Laboratorio Olfattivo, Kaon, Cafleurebon and Lauryn Beer, Senior Editor!
Appreciate your constant work to make as feel better in today reality. I read this article and just in few minutes feel happy and safe and looking forward to visit my favorite country Italy! I absolutely agree with Maestro Jean-Claud Ellena about Italy :”This country is redolent of happiness.” Also looking forward to try :”Laboratorio Olfattivo Mandarino, is a Frenchman’s love letter to Italy, to summer past, simple pleasures, and pure happiness.”

  • A happy fragrance! I like that it’s simple with only a few listed notes. The quality seems to be outstanding for these notes to work together the way they do according to the review. I also appreciate the longevity seems to be quite good as colognes tend to disappear much too quickly on me especially citrus. I have not tried any other Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances. Commenting from the US.

  • What appeals to me is the uplifting mandarin note. It sounds light and uplifting. This is actually my first time hearing of Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances, so I haven’t tried anything from their brand. The notes that take me to my happy place are lavender and cinnamon. They really comfort me and I absolutely adore them. Kind regards from Illinois, USA.

  • I haven’t tried any fragrances from this house, but I absolutely love Ellena’s work. I am a big fan of both orange and black current. I would love to receive a bottle of this. I am from Pennsylvania, USA.

  • Johnmichael02302 says:

Hello all from Boston, Ma. I love how Ellena describes his love of all things Italian… i too love all things Italian & this fragrance is right up my alley! I have never tried this house & I absolutely love all things citrus! I wish everyone luck!

  • But they could be from anyone’s childhood, the fragrance hinting at oranges plucked from the tree, Ribena juice boxes, hot dry days on holiday someplace where laughter rises and falls everywhere like the scales of an aria. If you want an instant shot of uncomplicated joy, this is for you.

Notes: Italian mandarin, blackcurrant, white musk. I am intrigued by notes especially blackcurrant and white musk. Notes that take me to a happy place are neroli and orange blossom. A house that I am not familiar with but my interest has been piqued. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

A house that I am not familiar with but I am curious and interested to find out more about this house. Notes that take me to a happy place are Jasmine, Rose and leather. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • Love the idea of the simple happiness as described in the review. Mandarin usually give this vibe and i would live to try the creation by Mr Ellena as our first frag by L.O. Greetings from Slovakia

  • What I enjoyed most about the review was how transportative it was , the ability to understand both an olfactive and written escape to another time and place was facinating.

Unfortunately I’ve not tried anything from the house.
A note scent that transports me is a mineral accord , it takes me back to my childhood at the beach.

  • Citrus in summer is just so right along with the fruity notes which one would smell on a hot summers day as fruit is ripening on bushes and trees. I love Lauryn’s description of this and the wonderful photo of Audrey Hepburn in”flight.” I’ve not tried any Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances. Many thanks to Lauryn for a stellar review and also many thanks to Laboratorio Olfattivo and KAON for making this draw possible. I’m in the USA

  • I like mandarin, especially during the fall, still fresh but not as citrusy as lemon, which I prefer during summer. Loved this review. Thanks for the chance to win. Living in the EU

  • I’ve not tried any of the Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances, but I’m definitely looking for a happy fragrance to keep summer going as we enter a grey September. Jasmine always makes me feel happy, or the smell of hay bringing back childhood memories of camping holidays.

  • It remind you of the good time in your life that you remember all the time as the best time. Mandarino its summer time frag that I love

  • It remind you of the good time in your life that you remember all the time as the best time. Mandarino its summer time frag that I love. Im in Sweden EU

  • I have not tried Laboratorio Olfattivo perfumes jet, but after such a lovely review I’m going to.
    I love the simple name!

  • Richard Potter says:

This sounds marvelously refreshing. I love Laboratorio Olfattivo, my favorite being Patchouliful! I also love Cozumel and Rosamunda. The green bottle is very attractive. USA

  • Iuno Feronia says:

thanks for this draw, Mandarine is wonderful cest, not too sweet, not too bitter. It is like a child jumping around and having fun. This cologne sounds great, I think I would wear it alone, feeling the soft mandarine scent wafting around me.I live in the EU.

  • I loved Lauryn’s description of this perfume as being simple, honest and happy, like a burst of uncomplicated joy. I noticed that citrus fragrances are not people’s absolute favorites, most of the time – but very rarely, if at all, are they disliked by someone. I think mandarine is one of the most likeable, zesty, uplifting notes out there, and yet not as common as bergamot, orange or graprefruit. It being paired with blackcurrant and lasting a good while on skin makes it even more promising.
Never tried Laboratorio Olfattivo before. My “happy scents” are probably also citrus oriented, or perhaps airy, sunny white florals. Not the indolic and vampy type, but let’s say some light and citrusy gardenia (think Jour d’Hermes) or even freesia (not that it’s classified a s a white floral in the first place, but I get that kinda vibe from it).
I am in the EU, thanks for a generous draw!

  • I would love to win this scent, i love citrus scents and mandarin is one of my favorites along with grapefruit. Unlike most people I wear them in the freezing cold of winter it reminds me of summer and fills me with joy, they make me travel to the south of Italy. Jean-Claude Ellena is one of my favorite perfumers I love Jasmin de pays (perris) and Eau de pamplemousse rose (hermès). I love when Lauryn says: “hot dry days on holiday someplace where laughter rises and falls everywhere like the scales of an aria. If you want an instant shot of uncomplicated joy, this is for you.” that’s exactly what I love and look for in a good mandarin scent.
    I live in France, EU

  • I’m very happy about the chance to win such a bright and luminous scent. Ellena’s creations have a unique way to be joyful, so I’d love to try this one too. I haven’t tried the fragrances from this line, but I’ve heard so much about them and I am curious. Aromas that take me to happy places are those that remind me of the sea, stationary, and florals such as a roses and violets. I am in the USA.

  • Lauryn’s review makes this scent seems like the perfect summer fragrance – I love the idea of a simple, straightforward Italian-style citrus perfume. Whether worn on its own or layered with another scent, I can’t wait to try it. I can’t say I’ve tried any of Laboratorio Olfattivo’s offerings but I have certainly used many (many!) of M. Ellena’s creations, from Terre d’Hermes to Cartier’s Declaration, etc. Based in the US.

  • wandering_nose says:

Mandarin is my ever favourite citrus note and J.C. Ellena is a master in creating citrus based concoctions so just this duet is irresistible in itself. The simplicity of the notes backed by the opulence of mandarin makes me really want to try this summer cocktail in a perfume bottle. I haven’t tried any of the L.O. fragrances as of yet. My happy aromas are mandarin, vanilla amber and milky notes. I am in the EU

  • I read some reviews about this scent, it sounds very fresh und summerlike. This fragrance line seems to have lots of fans, would love to try it.
    I am from EU, greetings

  • Thanks for the draw…this apeals me the most “ the opening is all drippy, tangy juice, with an herbaceous quality not unlike basil”
It reminds me at the vacations we spend in Italy with my husband and kids…we always eat the famous icecreams with the flavors of Citron, Manderin, Lemon, Berries.
This flavors take me to the happy place…Italië

I have two perfumes from Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances but they are Woody Spicy….I love to try this freshnes in a bottle.
    I live in the Netherlands

  • What I loved the most was the way the fragrance was described as a Frenchman’s love letter to Italy, to summer past, simple pleasures, and pure happiness.Who wouldn’t want to smell happiness in a bottle. I’ve had a bottle of Noblige but my experience with this house is very limited. My happy fragrant bubble is made of citruses and forest fruit.I live in Romania, EU.

  • ooh a long lasting citrus. That will definitely make me do a happy dance. Now I want to go to Italy and be happy. In lieu of travel, this cologne might help me vent my spleen. It sounds like it would be perfect to layer with a soft musk. I have not tried any of Laboratoria Olfativo fragrances. And I am in the US

  • There is nothing so voluptuous as orange slices, peeled out of the husk. Even the act of peeling is satisfying and fragrant, to boot. The land that offers up these pleasures must be pleasure itself, and Lauryn’s review captures what is most delightful about this fragrance, Laboratorio Olfattivo Mandarino and what it gently decants. And how it speaks for Monsieur Ellena and his love for Italy. My best beloved is Italian, so all of Lauryn’s writing is as beautiful and familiar as a serenade. I have not yet tried Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances, but now I must. Thank you for this, a sweet ray of sunshine as Autumn closes in.

  • Lovely review and a very possible depiction of the perfect summer fragrance. Mandarino by Laboratorio Olfattivo sounds like the kind of scent that will bring a laughter to everyone’s soul. I haven’t had the chance of owning any of the Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances but I hope this one to be the first one. Thank you for another great review and for the opportunity to participate in this drw. Commenting from Orlando, Fl.

  • This sounds to me like cologne at its best. Mandarin and black currant sounds like a match made in heaven, with the right balance of sweetness and zing. I have nevr tried a Laboratorio Olfacttivo fragrance, but this sounds like a great place to start. And I know Jean-Claude Ellena is a name to be reckoned with. I love the happy place that fig fragrances take me to, whether from a bottle or from a real fig or fig tree. In the US, in NC.

  • I enjoyed the part about this being Ellena’s loveletrer to Italy and him saying if he’s overcome by the feeling called “spleen” he just has to drive the hour and a half to Italy. That Italy is a country of happiness and thats what this fragrance sounds like as well. The description of the sweet mandarin and blackcurrant and the way they change to more zingy green mandarin and jammy blackcurrant sounds amazing and all on a bed of white musk. Id love to try this as ive not tries anything from Laboratorio Olfattivo. Id say citruses can cheer me up a bit as well. A fragrance in particular that relaxes me and puts me in a better frame of mind is Zaharoff Signature Pour Homme with its lavender as well as incense, resins, and soothing woods. While vanilla can take me to a warm, cozy, and happy place. I’m in the U.S. Thanks for the generous draw.

  • Literally all it took was for you to describe the scent as “jammy” to intrigue me! I have yet to try any Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances, but this one could be a hit especially because I love citrus scents this time of year. Citrus takes me to my happy place in spring and summer, and fall and winter it’s smokey aromas that capture my heart. Something about those scents are so captivating and nostalgic to me.

    I live in the USA.

  • I loved how vividly Lauryn described the optimism that citrus scents provide – to me, they give me that extra spring in my step, and are especially great on sweltering summer days! I’ve tried Cozumel and found it intriguing. I stay in the UK and would love to try Mandarino especially since it’s a Jean-Claude Ellena creation!

  • Elizabeth T. says:

This sounds gorgeous. I love Ellena’s quote about crossing into Italy… this seems like the perfume equivalent of that! And a simply, beautifully written review of it. All my perfumes take me to their own lovely place… that’s the joy of perfume – you get to choose where to go by simply spraying. 🙂 Thank you! I’m in the USA.

  • “If you want an instant shot of uncomplicated joy, this is for you.”

Indeed I do . I really appreciate such fragrances.
Laboratorio Olfattivo I’m curious about, the problem is their fragrances are not easy to sample in US .
My happy aromas are natural smelling citruses in the summer, and resinous ones in the colder months.
Lauryn thanks for the fine work .

  • I have not tried any LO yet. I do love colognes and Ellena’s work, also this short note list is inviting. US

  • Here’s to the sweetness, rings and stem! The anisic note sounds like a perfect foil to all the fruity goodness. The illustrations are lovely. I have not tried Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances. I live in the USA.

  • Mandarin, Pettigrain, Oranges. All these notes make me happy.
There is something about their smell that makes me want to taste it. Lauryn perfectly described it and compared it to a fresh glass of lemonade.

I haven’t tried Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances yet, but now I feel I must.

  • Michael Prince says:

Lauryn, I enjoyed your review on Laboratorio Olfattivo Mandarino. I can so related fresh, bright, uplifting, and fragrances that get us in a happy mood. Mandarino has that sweet bright fresh mandarin note, a nice fresh zingy juniper note, and a light fresh musk. In my opinion this fragrance definitely would take me into a happy place. Most citrus dominant fragrances take me to a happy place. I haven’t tried any fragrances from Laboratorio Olfattivo.
    I am from Ohio, USA.

  • Thank you for the excellent review Lauryn.
JCE is the master of citruses and there is no denying that.
This review brought a smilt to my face because it really is a joy to smell a good orange/citrus fragrance.

I love how this scents covers all aspects of the mandarin – from it’s juiciness to it’s greenenss and rind.

I have not had a chance to smell anything else from this house and I do hope to get a chance to get my nose on this.

Based on Lauryn’s review, there are 2 things that appeal to me about Mandarino:

“It is generously fruity and deliciously refreshing, the way a perfect glass of homemade lemonade is on a parched day.”
    and this
“Mandarino’s zestiness, anchored by that piquant blackcurrant, keeps its verve long after many of its fellows have sauntered off into their soapy-musky hinterland.”

I have not tried other Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances.

Aromas that take me to a happy place: amber-based fragrances; freshly baked goods; clean laundry.

I live in Waldorf, MD, USA.

  • Thank you Lauryn for this review. Citruses certainly make me happy so we share that with Jean-Claude Ellena. Laboratorio Olfattivo Mandarino parfum cologne sounds like an ode to happiness. I have not yet tried any Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances and would love to start with Mandarino. I’m in USA

  • I liked the reference to the childhood and pureness. Another fragrance that reminds me of the beautiful memories of childhood is Noblige from Laboratorio Olfattivo. For me the note star of this fragrance is the zesty, sweet and warm lemon that used to be present in our kitchen from time to time.
    EU

  • I haven’t tried any fragrance from Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrances, but this one sounds quite interesting, especially the mandarin and blackqurrant which sounds rather unique and very nice.
    from Denmark

  • Mandarin is my favourite citrus note and am also discovering that blackcurrant is becoming a favourite one too (Libertine Fragrance’s Eros Fig is amazing use of it). Am a fan of Italian style colognes and also Ellena altho I have yet to try this house which does intrigue me. My happy notes are definitely citrus, and usually florals-rose, violet, lilac, carnation and Iris. New Haven, CT usa here.

  • I have tried the fragrance in a recent trip to Rome. Their store is absolutely magnificent. The lady there was just amazing and responded to all my questions!!! Mandarino was a very nice surprise and we definitely find the JC Ellana signature in this fragrance. I totally agree with the review and the blackcurrant notes. I do own Salina and Esvedra from this Perfume House. I live in Luxembourg, EU.

  • Wonderful review!! I especially like beginning when told about Ellena thought about Italy, about his small period of life. Blackcurrant, amdarine and musk – together will be simple and beautiful.

  • During lockdown, I spent many happy hours watching old Michelangelo Antonioni movies, browsing through the online archives of Vogue Italia, watching Italian grannies cook pasta on YouTube, and taking virtual tours of venerable museums like the Uffizi in Florence. Italian arts certainly made my quarantine a happier place. Mandarino sounds juicy and alive. I remember how zesty the citrus fruits were when I visited Italy for the first time.
I haven’t tried anything from this house.
    I live in the USA.

  • Michelle Blair says:

If I can’t cross the border to Italy, I would want to wear this especially on those “spleen” days when I need a lift in spirits. I have always loved tangerine more than orange in my glass, why not in perfume? I am intrigued by the combination of tangerine and black currents as I love them both!! I am in USA

  • Many things to love here— Ellena’s scents are always beautiful, and orange scents are a particular favorite of mine. I envy the fact that he lives so close to Italy that he can simply go there if he’s feeling “spleen”! I have never tried any other fragrances from this line.

  • This sounds like such a happy fragrance! I love the quote “Mandarino smells like that perfect summer cocktail you’ve been waiting for someone to invent.”
Any time a fragrance has the note of frankincense, it immediately brings me back to my childhood at Christmas time and all of my Italian family getting together on Christmas eve to go to church, and then back to their place to eat fish dishes of all sorts and lots of Italian Christmas baked goods. The scent of frankincense always transports me back in time.
    I live in the USA.

  • I am italian.
Reading the article I can understand the inspiration that Ellena got from Italy.
We love agrumes, these precious fruits are part of our life. Lemmon, orange, cedar, mandarin, are part of our culture.
If you go to Capri and smell the air around the citrus notes are all over.
If you go to Sicily, even more.
There, a crossover between west and east, even in traditions, is perfectly present.
I can’t imagine the coasts of Mediterranean Sea, without the wonderful colors and strong smell of delicious Mandarins.
