At Esxence 2024, I had the great honor of meeting Maestro Arturetto Landi at the Laboratorio Olfattivo /Kaon Distributor booth and later at Meo Fusciuni’s stall, who introduced the great Italian perfumer to me as his mentor. Having created more than 70 fragrances over his career, Laboratorio Olfattivo AMBERBOMB is the first for the Italian brand and introduces their new “extreme” collection, and it is indeed, richer, deeper and with more magnetism than anything I have smelt from the house to date. Before we get to Steven’s video, I asked these esteemed Italian perfumer about his inspiration.

Michelyn: What was your inspiration for Laboratorio Olfattivo AMBERBOMB?

“I was jogging on the amazing beach of SALALAH (south Oman), when I stumbled into a white stone. I took it in my hands and I started to rub it…What a perfume! It’s Grey Amber. AMBERBOMB is the memory of this unforgettable moment and the meeting of a raw material that I really love.” -Arturetto Landi

Laboratorio Olfattivo AMBERBOMB is one of the finest creations I have smelt this year; it’s so artfully blended (the combination of iris and coffee with the multi-faceted earthiness of the Nagarmotha cannot be categorized) It is also not heavy, nor too fruity… totally unique. Steven Gavrielatos agrees; in his video he says it is one of his of Best of 2024.

    Out of all the scenarios possible, smelling a rock would be the least I could have come up with for an inspiration to create a new fragrance. However, after reading the notes, this is a very summery, deep and semi-fruity scent that Arturetto Landi has concocted. A lot of new perfumers do have a mentor they either shadowed in the past or have exchanged moments/ideas with and that really cements their affinity to not only be their best at their craft but also unique. They take everything they learn from their mentor and apply it with their own ideas and imagination. Also the black bottle is very chic and luxe. Creating over 70 fragrances is no easy task so thanks to Michelyn for letting us in on this special accomplishment. To many more creations! Steven mentioned this not being as ambery in the opening but more coffee and iris (I drink 2 cups of coffee at least in a day) so this is right up my alley. Even though it has coffee it doesn’t seem to go on a gourmand direction but a resinous/incensy direction. It being remotely similar to Plum & Cognac as mentioned by Steven is also a great indication I’m gonna love this one. Cheers from the USA.

    He described the opening as iris and coffee and I enjoy these notes very much! He also said it’s fruity and sweet I am excited to try this creation!!! The Amber dry down excited me bc it seems like it’s not linear or boring!

    I’m currently on the hunt for new colognes for fall and winter, and I’m excited to try out a new fragrance that sounds intriguingly mysterious. One of my all-time favorites is the original Valentino Uomo with its Iris and coffee blend, though I’ve always felt it could use a touch more sweetness and spiciness. I’m a huge fan of coffee and Iris, and my collection often features these notes or nuts. I can’t wait to experience this new addition to my collection.     Absolurely phenomonal video explaining this semi fruity smell with such a unique twist of iris and plum, amber and leather. Definitely seems like a very rich smell with lots of depth I can’t wait to see the longevity and sillage on this amazing fragrance.     This is dark & lovely…from the presentation to possibly the perfume. Im glad to see someone make a scent with legs and built to withstand daily challenges. I’d rather have something needing to be dialed back rather than to feel like I’m always lacking. That ten hour longevity isn’t something to sneeze at so my hats off to you. Iris and oud are my favorite notes but here the coffee and iris hopefully play out like Valentino Uomo but richer. Iris is perfect in the mid. It adds character and gives the legs needed to get through a long day. Would love to become proud owner, from Jacksonville, NC.

    I must admit I don’t know a lot about Arturetto’s creations. I’ll have to research him a bit! But I can imagine how rubbing a warm stone might smell like and if that is the inspiration I’m loving it. I very much admire Meo’s work and if he says Arturetto was his mentor I really need to learn more about his work! I really enjoyed reading this piece. I see Amber omb is one of the favorite releases for both Steven and Mochelyn and the fact that it has coconut and coffee + Iris combo is more than enough for me to be very interested!     Steven touched on the complexity of this fragrance and I have to say that I’d love to try it! Iris is my favorite note of all time, and I’m always on the lookout for a masterfully done combination that brings out all of its wonderful facets.     Amberbomb sounds like it definitely lives up to the rich, luxurious theme of Laboratorio Olfattivo’s luxurious new Extreme Collection. Opening with vibrant, juicy fruity notes of coconut, plum and strawberry, softly bitter notes of coffee sound like they temper the decadent medley of dark and sensual floral heart of rose, iris, jasmine and lily of the valley. The opulence seems to continue as a refined base that emerges, with warm notes of amber and vanilla paired with earthy, dry woody notes of patchouli and sandalwood, all finished off with a sultry, mysterious blend of leather and nagarmotha.     Great video from Steven breaking down the notes of the scent and giving comparisons of specific note blends! I think the coffee and plum in the opening sound unique and probably smell great. Likewise, an amber-y earthy dry down sounds great for a cool evening out.
    Also, what an interesting story from Arturetto about stumbling upon Ambergris, that must be a perfumer’s dream!

    Laboratorio Olfattivo is a house I really enjoy. I have 2 of their fragrances (Vanagloria and Arancia Rossa), and they are stunning.
    The house brings amazing perfumers, and master perfumer Landi is a reference.

    Amberbomb sounds fantastic, dark, rich, bold. The label itself and the dark bottle exemplifies it.

    As a fan of Meo Fusciuni I will definitely be putting this on my wishlist. Arturetto Landi and Meo Fusciuni’s relationship sounds so very special. Iris and coffee notes in a fragrance seems unique. Steven mentioned Little Song, which I love. He also mentioned it’s uniqueness. And I do love a plum note.     I’d love to have been there when struck with a “white stone”, a scent like no other, a surprise. This mysterious fragrance sends shivers down my spine, based on Steven’s review and the note breakdown, I can’t recall another perfume like this. The uniqueness of this scent is appealing. I’m a subscriber to Redolessence. I live in Oregon. Fingers crossed, this one is a winner for me.

    It was a joy to rad about Arturetto and Meo’s relationship as friends and fellow craftsmen. Both of these gentlemen are outstanding creative forces, and both have crafted some of the most unique and story-driven fragrances on the market today. I just received a sample of Amberbomb last week and it is a remarkable fragrance. To learn it’s inspiration came from a “stone” found on the beach was unexpected, yet makes perfect sense given the fragrance’s profile. What luck Arturetto had to stumble across such a find!

    Steven seemed to get a lot of iris and coffee from the scent, but on me it comes across as a warm musk gilded in resins and spice. I agree that is incredibly complex, and as such it is no surprise that our experiences with it differ. To me that is a sure sign of expert perfumery. I love when a scent can take each wearer on their own adventure.

    Laboratorio Olfattivo is one of my favorite houses. Vanhera, Alambar, Tonkade, Sacreste, Vanagloria, Nektar, and Nerotic have been some of my favorites for a few years now, and I am so excited for Amberbomb and whatever comes next in this extreme collection.     Wow! The top notes in this fragrance is amazing. Coconut, Plum, Strawberry, Apple & Coffee. If Arturetto Landi is Meo Fusciuni mentor, I can only imagine what AmberBomb will smell like.

    Steven mentioned how the coffee & iris combination reminded him of Little Song by Meo Fusciuni which I actually love & have in my collection. AmberBomb sounds like a great unique fragrance to own and I love that it can be worn in any situation.

    This is right up my alley. It’s amazing when an artist can just think of an amazing fragrance just from a walk on the beach, it’s pure genius. I love all the notes and watching Steven’s review on redolessence just confirmed what I already knew by looking at the notes and perfumer. It’s a banger.     I’ll admit when I saw the name I though oh dear we don’t need more amberXtreme but then I saw the names of the perfumer and oh no this would never be a screechy synthetic bomb of “amber”. Thank goodness!
    I loved the story about discovering grey amber on a jog in Oman! What a blessing.
    And Steven describing the plum and Iris and how it reminded him of the iconic plum in cognac perfume sealed the deal for me! I know this gorgeous.

    Love! Love! Love! Coffee, rose, amber, vanilla and patchouli. So many of my favorite notes in one fragrance. I’ve never smelt anything with plum before though. I love sweet fruity opening fragrances. I love that Steven described it as unique and original as I hate redundancy and that it’s dark and mysterious which I absolutely love. I would really love to try it. Thank you.

    Big fan of Steven. I thought the introduction was great about Arturetto Landi found amber on the beach. From the video I thought Steven talking about the iris and chocolate with fruit and amber was really helpful because it sounds like I could wear this in summer. Saying it was one of his favorites with great longevity really is going to make me look for a sample. My favorite is ExpLOud. USA

    What a great story of accidentally stubing upon a piece of amber, this must be any perfumers ( or better anyones dream)! I immediately googled the Salalah beach. Steven so masterfully describes the Amberbombbperfume, you can almost feel it in tour nise. And the comparison with Laboratorio Olfattivo’s Alambar is so informative.

    What an interesting combination of notes! I see why this is considered part of the extreme collection. The fruit and coffee opening with heart of florals (I love both iris and lily of the valley) support a really intense base of woods and amber and patch and leather. There’s a lot going on there and really unique in the hands of a master perfumer. I see Steven really thinks highly of it too. MD, USA.

    From Steven’s review I really like the sound of AMBERBOMB especially the iris and coffee combination, the ambery resinous quality, and that it is unique. I’ve wanted to try Laboratorio Olfattivo for quite some time, scents like Vanhera, Vanagloria, and Tonkade to name a few. The inspiration Maestro Arturetto Landi mentioned is also intriguing, him actually finding ambergris on the beach and rubning it in his hands, sounds like a special experience to turn into a perfume. I also like that Michelyn also said it is unique and artfully done as well as fitting as the first perfume of the new extreme collection. But especially that she said “(the combination of iris and coffee with the multi-faceted earthiness of the Nagarmotha cannot be categorized)” which was what made me most interested in trying AMBERBOMB.     With a name like AMBERBOMB, I’d expect this Laboratorio Olfattivo fragrance to pack a punch. I was surprised to read in Michelyn’s introduction that while it’s rich, it’s “not heavy, nor too fruity”, and Arturetto pointed out it was inspired by Omani grey amber. The Nagarmotha note sounds unusual and compelling as well, with a unique approach to amber accords. Steven pointed out it’s not as “ambery” as even another amber from the same brand, but that aspect comes out in the dropdown, perhaps after the (“fantastic”) blend of iris and coffee stops drawing attention. Will be a lovely wear as the weather cools.

    Love watching Steven’s videos every week as his taste is very similar to mine. This sweet fruity resinous fragrance has so many facets that I love. Coffee and iris together is magic together. I’m wearing Little Song today actually so I loved that he mentioned it.
    I also love the sound of that incensey plum. Amberbomb really does seem incredibly unique and complex, and I would adore to wear this on a cool evening as Steven mentioned.

    Both Steven and Michelyn have given high praise indeed to AMBERBOMB. Micheyn wrote that the fragrance is deeper than any other offering from Laboratorio Olfativo. I love that Arturetto Landi discovered grey amber while in Oman. Steven’s review highlighted the uniqueness of the fragrance, focusing on the blending of the coffee, fruit, iris and oud notes. I would love to try to pick out the strawberry and plum notes while wearing AMBERBOMB.

    Michelyn, for you to say this is one of the finest creations you’ve smelled this year means a lot! I know you have quite a discerning nose!

    I loved Steven’s review. I actually like that he says this isn’t all just an amber fragrance. Those other notes, notably the coffee note, sounds like a really well rounded, complex fragrance. He kept stressing how much of a unique fragrance it is.

    I love Laboratory Olfattivo! I have all of their Viaggio in Italia collection by Jean-Claude Ellena, and I wear them all constantly. Very excited about this new Amberbomb frangrance. The collection of notes sound intriguing, unique and delicious! And I’m so curious about its origin story inspired by a white stone on a beach. I would love to be transported there!     Amber, Plum, coffee, leather, iris – I’m sold already! That’s my favorite notes.
    I like that Stephen mentioned the word “unique” in his review. Because usually when Stephen says that this is a unique scent, it means that it really is. These are the kind of scents that interest me most – unique ones.
    It was also interesting to learn from the Michelyn’s article that the inspiration for this perfume was ambergris. I like gray amber and white musk in perfumery; it gives the aroma multi-faceted and shimmering shades. Sounds like it is well woven into the composition in this perfume.
    Wow. I’m intrigued by Amberbomb, very interesting to try.
    I like perfumes from Laboratorio Olfattivo, my favorites are Vanhera and Kashnoir, love to wearing them in the fall.
    And btw, a new design of the presentation – looks awesome.

    Oh yes! Perfect for Autumn! I’m ready for all things amber! When Steven said, It had resinous sweetness with coffee and iris my ears perked up. Sweet but never too sweet. I love how Steven summarizes his reviews. Such a pro. As always, Michelyn brings the perfumer’s background story to life. Maestro Arturetto Landi creating AMBERBOMB for the new “extreme” fragrances makes me very curious about what these darker scents will be like. With all his experience, you know this will be special. His story of finding a piece of Ambergris in South Oman was amazing. What a thrill for a perfumer to find! This would be my first experience with Laboratorio Olfattivo. With that said, this fragrance sounds so unique and created in such a genius way.     I really enjoyed reading the review of Laboratorio Olfattivo’s AMBERBOMB by Arturetto Landi. The way the fragrance is described as a “golden embrace” truly captured my attention.     THanks for the nice writeup Michelyn. It was really cool to read that the inspiration for this fragrance came from a stone that the perfumer came across while jogging.

    As Steven pointed out, this fragrance is so interesting because of the coffee-iris note in it. The use of nagarmontha, plum and leather also make this stand out.

    I love the mystical nature of the origin story by Maestro Arturetto Landi. It sets a magical tone for the fragrance from the start. Michelyn’s intro well done and humble. I especially like her review, it closer to poetry than prose and the scent note breakdown is excellent.

    Steven’s video was honest, personal and like a quick vacation in Amberbomb land. He did a great job of highlighting the depth and uniqueness of the fragrance. Also, the attention to detail was great. For example, the explanation of the scent performance really showed the life of the fragrance through the day. After reading the intro and watching the video, I am eager to try Amberbomb.
