La Playa by CARNER BARCELONA (Adriana Medina-Baez) 2025+ Endless Summer Giveaway

La Playa by Carner Barcelona

Le Playa by Carner Barcelona by Steven

I have been always a perfume lover; but my first scent memories are those of smells. When I look back at my decision of starting my own Perfume company and all that was involved in launching CARNER Barcelona, I have no doubts I made the best decision. I feel privileged to be able to work in a profession that fulfills me and in which I can translate my culture and feelings through scent to the rest of the world”. – Sara Carner from Michelyn’s interview in 2013

Composed by Adriana Medina-Baez Vice President Perfumer at Givaudan, this fragrance reimagines the essence of beach life for a generation that embrace summer not as a season, but as a way of being. -A note from the brand

I enjoyed Steven’s review of La Playa. I liked how he mentioned how the Ylang Ylang, cardamom, and pistachio make this fragrance different from other coconut dominant scents. I enjoyed reading about Sara Carner’s decision to start her own fragrance company. I live in Maryland USA.

  • Makenziebanister says:

Stephen was one of the first influencers that I found for reviewing fragrances and i feel he’s very trustworthy. I appreciate the comparison and contractions he has with this perfume. He makes this sound intriguing listing lots of edible scents but stating it’s not too gourmand but is fresh. He truly makes it sound evocative of summer!

  • Living in Jamaica means it’s always summer — endless sunshine, warm breezes, and flavors that remind you to slow down and enjoy life. Recently, Steven’s review had me at coconut and pistachio — a pairing that instantly caught my attention. The creamy richness of coconut with the nutty elegance of pistachio feels like a match made for our island’s “forever summer.”

  • A beachy scent Steve truly feels encapsulates summertime,
this scent differs from the usual coconut scents on the market. With pistachio and vanilla, it is fresh as well as tropical from the Ylang Ylang, with some sweetness without veering into gourmand territory. La Playa has a touch of the beachy suntan lotion vibe that elevated with the addition of Indian cardamon that gives it a unique spicy perspective without overpowering it and the coconut that dominates alongside citrus…for him it is in a league of its own.

  • What I like about Stephen is the guy honestly and talking from his heart ,when someone talking from the heart is going straight to your heart, don’t get me wrong when he doesn’t like something he will say that no hesitation, these stuff make him one of the best perfume YouTuber over the years and he will be more successful the years to come

  • SallieRyder says:

Steven described the scent in such a way that makes the scent come alive. The combination of orange blossoms, coconut milk and vanilla have me totally enthralled with the expectation of this lovely scent.

  • I’m intrigued with La Playa and always interested in trying new vanilla and coconut fragrances.

  • The description of this wonderful cologne is totally up my alley being a coconut, vanilla and pistachio mix, especially considering it’s a summer fragrance with a twist. Very intrigued by it and what line has to offer.

  • Your review on this scent made me really want to get my nose on it. I had a bottle about 5 years ago and I think it was an Amber scent and I loved it period I really love coconut especially in summer fragrances.

  • valcityboy1911 says:

From Steven’s description sounds like a nice one for me. I love coconut fragrances. Coming from hot and spicy Orlando FL

  • Damarys Abreu says:

Steven brought the La Playa scent by Carner Barcelona to life with his enchanting descriptions. The blend of orange blossoms, creamy coconut milk, and warm vanilla captivates my senses, filling me with excitement for this delightful fragrance. His charismatic storytelling completely mesmerizes me, allowing me to almost indulge in the scent just by listening to him. With his poetic approach to describing perfumes, I’ve found myself purchasing many fragrances after hearing his thoughtful reviews. His admiration for the art of scent truly shines through, making each experience feel special and inviting.

  • Well, I started with M. Carner’s interview, and having enjoyed a visit to Barcelona, I now want to try her scent El Born, and Cuirs.
Thank you Steven for a lovely review for a fun, coconutty, citrus-y, informal, cardamom-y, summery scent. I do love coconut and appreciate that this is a unique take on a summer-evocative scent, that is not too gourmand. I really like the wood cap that M Carner mentions is made by artisans on the Catalan.
Thank you for a generous draw and wonderful reviews, as ever, from seattle, where I may occasionally spritz a summer scent during the gray and rainy, days of winter.

  • Steven always has the best content!!! A pistachio note mix with coconut milk sounds fire, could be an all year evening scent.

  • ItsVictoriaLouise says:

As someone who lives in sunny Texas, the summer heat last a pretty long time. I do not have anything in my perfume collection that smells like coconut, so as a blind buyer I am intrigued to try. Steven is the only male perfume reviewer that I follow. I enjoyed his thorough and honest review of the perfume. He did not over or under sell the product and clearly stated who would enjoy the fragrance and the season this scent is best suited for.

  • The initial notes of lemon, orange, even coconut drew my interest and led me here. The base notes that promise a creamy, sweet finish truly raised my expectations! I live in a warmer climate, so I could absolutely enjoy this scent now, and it would give me something to look forward to as shorter winter passes and warm temperatures arrive again soon.

  • Ramses Perez says:

Reading the story of how Sara grew up with a family of hard-workers and manufacturers, leather makers and very crafty people around her, it instilled in her this desire to create. Carner Barcelona is a house that has been around forever and criminally underrated if you ask me and they have some very unique and creative scents. La Playa has all the ingredients that give you a beachy affair and I am very happy myself Steven mentioned it having lots of coconut. My breakfast every morning is smoothie I make with coconut milk so this is right up my alley. I am also noticing the box in the video and they’ve done a bit of a revamp as well to go with the fragrance in the box. Even though summer is coming to an end it’s still hot enough to rock La Playa for many more weeks. I’m located in the USA and many thanks to Design Hub 95 for the amazing giveaway.

  • The first thing that caught my attention is Steven saying this is coconut forward and it’s not a gourmand. I also love ylang ylang in summer fragrances. Coconut and ylang ylang notes make me think of a tropical beach on a hot day watching the blue water. I also love that Sara Carner speaks on her passion for perfumery. When someone puts their heart in a fragrance it comes through because it represents them. It’s also so inspiring to hear she follwed her dream of starting her own brand and she says it’s the best thing she did. This sounds like such a beautiful scent. I’m in the USA

  • Paula Keitzman says:

I love the interesting mix of ingredients, is it beachy, gourmand, or summery, or all 3! Thanks!

  • Miguel Quiroz says:

I would love to be able to try this out. Had to sell most of my collection awhile back due to medical bills. Would love to have this and start over little by little.

  • Stacey nemchick says:

I’m just starting to love fragrance again! I have been struggling with my mental health due to multiple life circumstances but coming out of the dark and now taking care of MYSELF.
Many scents take me back to different life experiences. I’m trying to create new ones!! I’m a young 52 and loving life again!!!

  • Harmony Rocourt says:

he is always enjoyable to watch and is very into the product which I like. it gives me the confidence to buy it. He has been pretty great with picking lovely scents.

  • I’m very curious about the prospect of contrasting the more edible associated components Steven mentioned such as coconut (milk), pistachio, and vanilla, along with the subtle integration of a counter-balancing presence like Indian cardamom. I’m hoping that this spice note juxtaposition (along with the aura of freshness and floral impact which Steven emphasized) could serve to keep the composition from becoming overly gourmand leaning for tastes (like mine) wary of strong sweetness in warmer weather scents.

I also would love to find out whether these disparate seeming elements could combine together to achieve a goal of producing a high heat friendly fragrance which manages to avoid crossing over into the realm of becoming so sunscreen reminiscent that it almost feels like a parody of summer fragrance stereotypes. IL, USA. Thank you!

  • Great article, I have been a Carner Barcelona Fan for over 10yrs. Looking forward to experiencing this New Fragrance. Sounds Incredible!!

  • DeLores Taylor says:

Here we go again Steven!!! You never steer me wrong. This fragrance sounds like a “BANGER”! I ran over to an online seller to purchase before the video ended and was met with”SOLD OUT”. Hopefully I can locate a bottle with a bit more searching. Keep up the good work.

  • Jamie Truesdale says:

I enjoyed Sreven ,well I love the way he describes fragrances. This fragrance sounds like the best day you could have at the beach. Coconut. Yum.

  • One of my facorite notes is coconut. Love the presentation for La Playa, reminds mr of the boardwalk leading down to the beach. It does seem like a perfect daytime, summer fragrance to wear while chilling on the beach or to remind you of being at the beach while laying out beside your backyard pool! The notes remind me of TF Soliel Blanc, would love to compare the 2. Loved the interview with Sara, making perfume for sure is more interesting than sitting at a desk all day, crunching those numbers. The wooden caps fit the brand perfectly! USA

  • I love watching Steven’s reviews. This one sounds like a summer day in a bottle. La Playa ,the beach perfect name for such a fragrance. Thanks for sharing this one, great summer pick. USA, CA

  • FreshFindswithMe says:

Steven always provides such exceptional reviews!!! Coconut, pistachio, and vanilla!!! Sign me up!!! Coconut is one of my favorite notes!!! I’ve been wanting to try this brand for a while!!!

  • FreshFindswithMe says:

Steven always provides such exceptional reviews!!! Coconut, pistachio, and vanilla!!! Sign me up!!! Coconut is one of my favorite notes!!! I’ve been wanting to try this brand for a while!!! I found it refreshing that Sara’s passion comes from translating her culture through scent. Being from the USA, I can relate to deep-rooted sentiments from my upbringing and true appreciation for my heritage. Thank you for the opportunity! Steven had me at coconut!!!

  • Steven’s description of La Playa as coconut-forward yet fresh with pistachio and cardamom makes it sound like the kind of summer scent I’ve been missing. I also loved Sara Carner’s words about creating perfumes from her culture and feelings—it makes the fragrance feel truly heartfelt. I’m in Connecticut, USA.

  • Steve’s review of La Playa made me fall in love with it.
It’s sweet but not gourmand—just sunlit citrus, soft musk, and ocean air.
I wore a sample on a beach trip with my daughters, and it became part of the memory.
From childhood vacations eight hours from the coast to quiet days at our NC beach, this scent wraps it all in warmth.
Carner Barcelona’s founder said: “I feel privileged to be able to…translate my culture and feelings through scent to the rest of the world.”
That’s exactly what La Playa does—it tells my story

  • Steven again not only explains to us the notes of a fragrance, but gets across the vibe as well, something I appreciate because not all Influencers take the time to tell us how a fragrance feels. I feel like this would be a summer banger. Thank you for the review. USA.

  • carrie_earle says:

I am a Redolessence subscriber and Steven is had I learned of CaFleureBon. I love tropical, summery scents and the fact that Steven describes fragrances vs trying to sell them is my favorite part of his reviews. I loved reading about the evolution of Sara Carner’s career; to coming from a leather goods family, going into a field that didn’t speak to her entrepreneurial soul, working for fashion and beauty brands, to finally going home and starting her own fragrance line. Very inspiring. I live in the USA.

  • I hope to get to the point soon where “beach life” is a way of being and not just a season. I would like some rest and relaxation! I like that this has summer florals and coconut milk but also has some interesting spices and a musky vanilla base, Good to know Steven appreciates this scent as well. MD, USA

  • I was interested by Stephen’s description of the fresh notes that balance this and give a tropical while not overly gourmand summery fragrance even though there are sweet coconut and spices that could pull it into gourmand territory. I am also intrigued but the marriage of the cardamom and pistachio notes with the coconut and ylang ylang – sounds like an unusual combination! I am in USA

  • Really cool bottle design—captures intense sun on the beach perfectly. Steven highlighted the strong coconut note, but I was surprised when he explained La Playa has less “suntan lotion vibe” than I expected, and it’s not a gourmand (I’m curious about that cardamom-spiced pistachio note). The “ephemeral,” tropical-fresh floral accord sounds easy to wear and “the zenith” of summer fragrances is high praise. In Sara Carner’s interview, she mentions the idea for another of her perfumes “came to me one summer afternoon while having a drink at ‘La Vinya del Senyor’, in front of Basilica Santa María del Mar.” I feel like aspects of La Playa must have came from a similar moment of reverie, but on a summer day seaside.

    I’m in the USA.

    Hi there,

Loving this review from Steven, as well as the focus on a scent that sparks visions of summertime, all year round. Believe it or not, there will come some weather in a few months that will have all of us New Yorkers craving warmer locations! This new Carner scent will undoubtedly bring that to mind. I am a nut for Sara Carner’s Palo Santo. Thanks so much.

  • From the video my interest was sparked by calling this a “fruity and sweet” perfume (with pistachio). From the written interview I took away that, Sara’s journey began when she left Barcelona and headed to New York City. US

  • I love cardamon in a fragrance. This sounds so creamy and lovely. And a fresh citrus top makes it perfect for summer. But it sounds like it really could be worn year round. Very interesting reading about Sara starting her own company, what an undertaking!
    I am in the U.S.

  • La Playa has intrigued me since its release. It sounds so perfect for summer, and I love all of the notes. I especially love coconut, so I was happy to hear Steven say the coconut is very prominent. I would have thought it would give a suntan feel, but Steven mentions it goes in a slightly different direction. I really loved his description of it. Overall, La Playa sounds right up my alley!

It was interesting to read Sara Carner’s interview. Like Sara, some of my first memories are of smells. Tardes is one of my favorite fragrances from Carner Barcelona, so it was fun to learn that it was one of their first creations. Also, I can see why wood would be the signature scent of Carner Barcelona now. Woody notes are well-represented throughout the collection.

Thank you, Steven, for the great review, and thank you to Design Hub 95 for the giveaway. I am located in the USA.

I love coconut forward fragrances, so I am sure i will love La Playa. I am the kind of person who breathes in the scent of my beach towels in the winter–the suntan lotion fragrance somehow always remains. Steven emphasized that La Playa is not a typical beach fragrance because of the cardamom and the tonka bean notes. He also said the tropical ylang-ylang is very apparent in the first 30 minutes of the fragrance.
I read the 2013 interview with Sara Carner and I was amazed by the research she did in creating El Born. She said she explored all the nooks and crannies of this Barcelona district.
    I live in the USA.

  • Like always Steven make us tele-transport to a one mini vacations in the Caribbean with this description. Steven’s take on La Playa by Carner Barcelona really intrigue me. His description of how pistachio and cardamom add unexpected depth to the coconuty beach vibe makes the fragrance sound both familiar and intriguingly fresh. For hot summer sidewalks and humid air are the backdrop to everyday life, I can vividly imagine spritzing La Playa, feels like a mini escape. Excellent review!

“My best ideas come to me after a long day. Once my kids are in bed and the house is finally silent, that’s when inspiration strikes … It’s in these quiet moments that clarity and creativity often emerge.” -Sara Carner

    From USA.

  • La Playa sounds like the kind of scent I’d reach for in the summer, light but with some depth. I liked reading about Adriana Medina and how she connects nature and memories into her creations. That fits so well with the idea of waves, driftwood, and flowers by the water. I haven’t had the chance to try Carner Barcelona yet, but this one really caught my attention. USA

  • A gourmand like freshy perfectly enveloping the sensual summer energy. Coconut with pistachio. Need this. Stephen always provides the most detailed descriptions for fragrances. NY, USA.

  • i like how he says the fragrance “prolongs” the summer into fall. i am trying to do just that. 🙂 i live in Virginia.

  • wallygator88 says:

    Thanks for the video Steven.
Summer to me is beautiful citrus, warmth and greens. I’m not the biggest fan of coconut scents. The use if indian cardamom is quiet interesting.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • Steven’s review had me at coconut and pistachio. He makes this sound intriguing listing lots of edible scents but stating it’s not too gourmand but is fresh. I am in the USA

  • I’ve heard such good things about this fragrance. Steven’s reviews are always so genuine. Summer in a bottle. I love that the ylang ylang bring on the tropics. I’ve love to win this league of its own fragrance. USA.

  • La Playa is aptly named for what it signifies and what it reminds it’s wearers of. Most people either long to visit the shore or are getting anxious about the summer coming to a close and the beach is no longer accessible. The bright and citric opening strikes different senses and wakes you up. That’s only the beginning of a journey that goes into a nutty, spicy, and smooth. Last but not least is the lactonic, sweet base. I have little experience with tonka bean but I feel like for the perfumer to import it from Venezuela it’s gotta compliment the fragrance appropriately and making it worth every penny. Would love to experience and own for myself because “La Playa” is a place I miss and also one I look forward to all year around. From NC.

Thank you Steven and cafleurbon for this chance to win what sounds like Ana maxing fragrance. Steven’s description of this makes me think of the gulf beaches in Florida where my dad grew up. Flowers growing and scenting the air, tanned skin, children laughing. Nostalgia and yet somehow modern. Beautiful!!
