Juliette has a Gun Lust for Sun (Romano Ricci) 2023 “Pool Party in Cap d’Antibes”

Juliette Has a Gun Lust for The Sun

Of all the wild and wonderful guests jumping in and out of his looking-glass pool, the biggest thrill for me is to hear the laughter drown out the sea,” – Bono Juliette has a Gun Lust by the brand.

Juliette has a Gun Lust for Sun smells like what I imagine the famous parties businessman, heir to the CEO of SIMCA and photographer Jean (Johnny) Pigozzi threw in the late 70s at Villa Dorane, in Cap d’Antibes might have been like. The man is legendary for the pool parties he threw during the Cannes Film Festival. Hanging out by the pool, swimming with inflatable toys, lounging on terry-cloth-covered beds, and listening to music, and possibly rubbing shoulders with guests like Mick Jagger, or Woody Allen. You get the scene I’m trying to paint here.

Perfumer Romano Ricci builds the composition around the aromas of suntan lotion white florals, coconut, and a dash of citrus, with a buttery, bold ylang-ylang accord and a high dose of ambroxan. A slightly salty ozonic whiff of freesia is coming through from the start, and I continue to feel its green shadow halfway through the wear. A big lush bouquet of tropical gardenia, apricot faceted jasmine, and ylang-ylang are the sexiest and most youthful blocks of the heart, and together create what smells like a sweet floral marmalade accord. I don’t detect much of the vanilla. However, the blend of white musk and ambroxan is more robust than ever in the base.

The initial burst seems very modern but after  Lust For Sun i feels super retro and perfectly embodies the pool party vibe; think coral lips, sun-kissed skin drenched in coconut tanning oil, and the zingy chlorine bite in the back. With everyone lazily floating across the blue piscine at the villa Pigozzi in Cap d’Antibes. I’m here for that “clean” type of accord and luminosity, made to reflect the feeling of a dive into the swimming pool waters after sunbathing and seems to be  in line with trend trending fragrances, with its fresh laundry-like aroma. Juliette has a Gun Lust for Sun is a festive cocktail that can be a perfect antidote on gloomy days, regardless of the season. A few spritzes of Lust for Sun, and the party’s going strong …no pool required.

Notes: Coconut, Bergamot, Freesia, Gardenia, Ylang-Ylang, Jasmine, Orange Blossom, Ambroxan, White Musk, Vanilla.

The bottle was kindly gifted to me but opinions and nose are my own.

Wow, your description of Juliette Has A Gun Lust for Sun is absolutely captivating! Thanks, Olya! It sounds like a fragrance that perfectly captures the essence of those legendary pool parties at Villa Dorane in Cap d’Antibes. The blend of suntan lotion, white florals, coconut, and citrus, along with the youthful floral bouquet and the robust base of white musk and ambroxan, creates a retro yet modern scent that evokes images of sun-kissed skin and carefree summer days. As for my favorite Juliette Has A Gun perfume, it’s hard to choose just one as they have such a diverse and intriguing range, but I have a soft spot for Not a Perfume with its minimalist and unique composition. Thank you for sharing your wonderful insights!

  • I am one of those people that is a bit hesitant when it comes to suntan lotion and coconut-based fragrances, but this one sounds so fun. I am especially intrigued by Olya’s description of a “floral marmalade” in the heart. I love the fruity side of ylang-ylang and it seems to play a big role here. Freesia is alo a floral that I don’t see all that often, but whole-heartedly enjoy it when I do come across it. Overall, this seems like it may be a winner. I’m going to have to order a sample of this one.

I generally don’t like coconut, the smell or the taste in real life, but I’m looking forward to getting my nose on Lust for Sun. The blend of floral notes sound great; hopefully the Ambroxan won’t be too strong! My favorite JHAG fragrance is MMMM… and I enjoy Vanilla Vibes too.

Lovely review! I’m not typically a summer person, but lately I’ve been craving anything with that tropical vibe. I’m thinking I need to try a sample of this!

The perfect summer party vibe even with no access to a pool – wow, and the notes… Just jaw-dropping. I would like to spill Lust for Sun all over myself, go partying and then skinny-dipping. I feel it would be just perfect.
