J.U.S (J.U.S is an acronym which means “juice” the French nickname given to a fragrance) is a perfume brand founded by Brigitte Wormser, Thierry de Baschmakoff and Jean-Baptiste Roux. These three experienced personalities from the world of perfumery launched J.U.S in 2018, (another acronym meaning here  “Joyau Unique & Sensoriel” – unique and sensory jewel). The French brand’s DNA is based on these principles: freedom of creation, both for the materials used (natural or synthetic), for reputable perfumers who have signed one or more fragrances, French know-how and raw materials, packaging and bottles in artistic shapes and colors; they also  have an environmentally responsible approach  offering 25 ml and 100 ml bottles that can be recycled and resourced. Importantly, J.U.S reveals the composition of each creation on its website.

I briefly wrote about J.U.S Bloomastral in my October 2021 Perfume Passport in Paris article. This fragrance created by Alexandra Carlin is her third for the brand which now has twelve in its perfume collection. After J.U.S Gingerlise (a spicy Cologne where blue ginger merges with citrus fruits and angelica, then softens with notes of amber and musks in a lemon yellow bottle) and J.U.S Noiressence (a leather that plays between the dark facets of blackcurrant bud, pepper, styrax and cade and those, luminous, of orange blossom in a red blood bottle), the perfumer of Symrise reveals another facet of her love of precious raw materials with J.U.S Bloomastral,  which spotlights night blooming jasmine. Jasmine is one of the most legendary flowers in perfumery, and it is said “there can be no perfume. without Jasmine.” Depending on its variety and the other raw materials that accompany it, it can be pure or tempting, classic or modern, shy or adventurous. Jasmine appeals to most fragrances lovers and creating a new jasmine-centered fragrance that is original and unique is a real challenge for a brand and for a perfumer.

Symrise perfumer Alexandra Carlin chose a very specific jasmine: the wild and carnal Galant de Nuit, that doesn’t bloom until after sunset and is impossible to extract naturally. The perfumer worked as a true artist (and chemist) to recreate this magnificent and rare jasmine variety so close to tuberose and its carnal chord. J.U.S Bloomastral has a fresh juicy tangerine opening which melts with the grapefruit facets of Timur pepper. But it only takes seconds for osmanthus to take the lead on my skin. I remember that during J.U.S Bloomastral press presentation, Alexandra Carlin brought samples of the main raw materials used; I completely fell in love with the Guilin de Laire osmanthus, and the mouillette has not left my notebook since. This leathery-apricot facet is a real delight to smell on its own and a prolonged pleasure when wearing J.U.S Bloomastral on the skin. Ylang-ylang and vanilla notes add some delicacy, not too sweet, but highly luminous and comforting.

J.U.S Bloomastral is a jasmine osmanthus perfume

My osmanthus scented mouillette is still in my notebook, testing at the press launch and J.U.S Bloomastral raw material board – first two pictures ©Emmanuelle Varron and raw material board ©J.U.S.

The jasmine is intense, stunning and contrasts beautifully with the velvety smoothness of osmanthus. As the minutes pass, almond scented jasmine appears and plays a sensual duet with the apricot facet of Osmanthus which is finished with a creamy sandalwood. Between the fruity and solar notes, I imagine myself lying in the middle of a field of Galant de Nuit at sunset. J.U.S Bloomastral smells like summertime; warm sunny days and bright moonlit nights when sensual dreams come to life…  now, here, on skin.

Main notes: Timut pepper, tangerine, osmanthus, Grandiflorum jasmine, ylang-ylang, vanilla, sandalwood.

Disclaimer: A huge “merci” to J.U.S for the Bloomastral bottle provided for this review. The opinions expressed are my own.

Reading reviews by Emmanuelle is a joy because she is such a no nonsense type of person who comes across very clear in her descriptions and straight forward, making it very easy to get an impression about the scents that she’s describing and how the perfume might smell, especially in this case where she’s talking about my favourite type of perfume and notes. I’ve always loved jasmine notes in the perfumes that I wear and recently ylang has become one of my favourites too, honestly the entire composition of this fragrance are just notes that I love! Unfortunately, I’m not familiar with J.U.S at all and I’m very curious about the general feeling their fragrances convey. Thank you, Emmanuelle, for the review and thank you, J.U.S, for the generous giveaway! I live in the EU.

  • “almond scented jasmine appears and plays a sensual duet with the apricot facet of Osmanthus”. This blend sounds spectacular. Apricot (stone) also has an almondy aspect, so it is clever to pair it with an almondy jasmine. I find jasmine to be one of the most beautiful notes in perfumery.

  • I enjoy jasmine perfumes but I dont think I have smelled one with night-blooming jasmine before. J.U.S Bloomastral seems like an effervescent creation with tangerine and osmanthus notes. I am in US.

  • In this review of J.U.S Bloomastral by Emmanuelle, I enjoyed learning about the Galant de Nuit jasmine, the night blooming jasmine. I love jasmine, and it would be lovely to try out this version of jasmine, which I am not familiar with. It is interesting how J.U.S. means juice, and also stands for “Joyau Unique & Sensoriel” – unique and sensory jewel!! Like the environmentally sustainable approach that this company follows. I haven’t tried anything by them, but from Emmanuelle’s review, J.U.S Bloomastral seems to be a great perfume to start with. Thanks for the review and draw. From USA.

  • I really enjoyed this review! Bloomastral sounds really great. I like how it explained that the perfumer is creating an accord of the Galant de Nuit jasmine that can’t be extracted, I looked at the website as well and it looks like so much went into that accord. The other notes r wonderful sounding as well. I enjoy jasmine e in the fragrances I have it in. I dont think any are jasmine centric but would love to try this. Thanks for the generous draw. I love Jasmine in fragrances really fascinated by the notes of Jasmine, timut pepper and sandalwood. This is a house that I have heard of but have got no experience with I am afraid. A beautiful review by Emmanuel always hits the spot. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

  • I love Jasmine. But strangely until this article I didn’t realised what this flower brought to fragrances. I was just assuming that it was quiet in some composition. But now I understand it’s effect in clean musky fragrances, or classic perfumes. Thank you so much to make me realise this.
Bloomastral seems to be so beautiful, between this almond scented Galant de Nuit, and the osmanthus. Thank you for this generous oportunity to discover one of this brand jewel. I live in France EU.

  • Emmanuele has written yet another great review. I especially loved how she described the playful interplay between the main note of jasmin and osmanthus, two of my favourite nnotes in perfumery. This one sounds like a true, true winner! I love jasmine in perfumes, be it gorgeous, floral, feminine or indolic, heavy, animalic even! Love it! I live in Croatia, EU.

  • Great review, love how the notes are described. I’m a huge fan of jasmin fragrances!

  • Jasmine is one of my favorite notes in fragrance. I am intrigued by Emmanuelle’s description of the interplay of this special jasmine along with the fruity and solar notes. The base notes here are also ones that I tend to prefer in fragrance. The entire composition speaks to me. The review here was extremely helpful as the clarity made the fragrance come alive on the page. (I’m in the U.S.)

  • I have just started to get into jasmine perfumes. Jasmine and tuberose are really hitting with me lately. So, Emmanuelle’s review is very interesting. I also love that the perfumers have full creative freedom to play with natural and synthetic materials. I live in the US.

  • This is a gorgeous review by Emmanuelle, “smells like summertime” is the part that made me want this perfume so much! Love, love, love jasmine perfumes. Hugs from Croatia, EU.

  • I felt Emmanuelle’s review explained the fragrance so perfectly that I almost feel like I know exactly how it smells. It sounded incredible. The almond scented jasmine, playing with apricot facet of osmanthus and creamy sandalwood sounds like a lovely comforting fragrance.
Jasmine is my favorite floral not in fragrances.

Thanks for the awesome review! 🙂

  • I love jasmine fragrances and this review by Emmanuelle made me very curious about this fragrance. I love how the fragrance becomes a velvety osmanthus mixed with jasmine. Would definitely try this fragrance. I am in the U.S.

  • Very interesting review!! This perfume sounds very beautiful – paper and tangerine in the start, intense jasmin in the heart and creamy sandalwood in base !!
Need to try and all collection, because not familiar with this brand.

  • I was considering ordering their discovery kit just this Monday. I love the bottles and idea of the transparency of formulas. I don’t really remember the smell of jasmine, but the smell of a summer night definitely speaks to me. Would love to try it. I live in France, EU.

  • The blue bottle is gorgeous! Jasmine is one of my favorite florals for fragrance . It’s always interesting to see what new facets perfumers can bring to this classic. The pairing with osmanthus brings some apricot fruitiness to the composition. The almond in the osmanthus and the sandalwood sound like a great base. I’m in MD, USA.

Thank you for the great review Emmanuelle.

I love the carnal and sensual nature of the jasmine bloom. We used to have lots of plants at my ancenstral house that we would pick dawn to make garlands.

Jasmine and osmanthus is like cardamom and coffee peas in a pod.

More than any jasmine fragrance, I absolutely love the smell of the freshly picked flowers.

    Cheers from WI, USA

I am grateful for being able to get acquaited with the J.U.S. brand – thank you Emmannuelle! Their philosophy is not on the flimsy side for sure and that has to be admired. The composition sounds as sophisticated as it is tasteful and appealing. I love fragrances sweetened with vanilla and floral notes (I adore ylang-ylang!) and Bloomastral seems to be bringing that to the table. Once a die-hard fan of anything jasmine, I became more picky over time and these days it takes a really special jasmine to win me over – Bloomastral feels like it would make me swoon in delight! Plus the imagery and color scheme is to die for. Thank you from the Republic of Ireland, EU

  • I appreciated Emmanuelle’s run down of the various J.U.S. fragrances and their unique packaging. I find bottle design can be somewhat overlooked. Like food…our eyesight, touch, and smell all play big roles in our enjoyment of the experience so why should it be any different for a fragrance?.? If the bottle looks and feels low quality it can impact ones feelings about a fragrance.

What’s more I like that J.U.S. is not only making fantastic packaging but it’s sustainable/recyclable.
    I’m in the USA.

Lovely review Emmanuelle! I really enjoyed learning that the perfumer chose a very specific type of nightblooming jasmine that’s impossible to extract naturally, and thus the scent is a reimagining of sorts of the natural but elusive accord, intense and seductive. I also am intrigued by fact that she uses Osmanthus to bring out the magnificence of the carnal jasmine.

I absolutely adore jasmine perfumes! My favorite soliflore has to be Rogue Jasmine antique, but I also adore many jasmine-centric fragrances such as my beloved Coco Chanel. I live in the US.

  • What I find interesting, and appealing, other than Emmanuelle Varron review, is the juxtaposition of leather, apricot and jasmine in J.U.S Bloomastral . The fragrance is both elegant, but also seductive and slightly carnal.
I like jasmine fragrances that can surprise me in a good way , and I believe J.U.S Bloomastral could be the new jasmine I’m looking for for a long time.
    Thanks for the draw

  • What a lovely review, Emmanuelle! I love big white floral scents but I had never heard of this specific type of jasmine, the fact that the perfumer created the scent from scratch is always amazing to me and knowing that is almost tuberose like makes it even more tempting. Thank you for the draw. US

  • J.U.S is a house I do not know, I like their vision with good looking bottles, quality ingredients, sustainability, and selling big refills if you like to commit to some impressive to your taste fragrance.
Bloomastral i like because of the jasmine, leather, peach and sandalwood.
I like jasmine fragrances , if the other notes are appealing to me , and blended well with the jasmine.
    Thanks Emmanuelle Varron , J.U.S , Cafleurebon

I wasn’t familiar at all with the house but Emmanuelle’s enthusiastic review has made me put it immediately on my wishlist of brands to study! I am a great fan of jasmine, I can understand why it is said that there is no perfume without jasmine: the scent is sweet and sensual, enticing and comforting at the same time. When I see a jasmine in bloom in the streets I cannot help but stopping by and smell it, and we have jasmine all around the house so in May and June when I step out of the balconies I can smell it…It is also true though that since it is so much used in perfumery, it has become very challenging for perfumers to create something new and different, so I’d really love to smell Bloomastral! Greetings from Italy

  • I absolutely love Emmanuelle’s review and the detailed description of the Galant de Nuit jasmine profile in Bloomastral. I know that J.U.S very actively uses this component and its derivatives in their perfumes. The combination of wild, creamy, carnal jasmine and osmanthus (a very popular or, I would say trendy, ingredient in perfumery nowadays) probably makes a lasting impression. I love jasmine in perfumery and I really like a lot of its facets, especially the indole ones. For example, this is jasmine from Lust perfume from Lush is intoxicatingly beautiful.
    I an from the UK.

  • Oh, jasmine, what a beautiful flower, love it in fragrances! And the review makes you want to dive your nose into this one! I’m from Europe ❤️

  • Thanks for this wonderful review Emmanuelle!

In summer and spring I love to wear floral fragrances; especially Neroli and Iris fragrances. And recently I have grown fond of Jasmine and Immortelle.

The part where you describe the almond scented jasmine, and write that it plays a sensual duet with the apricot facet of Osmanthus followed with a creamy sandalwood, is where you piqued my interest. I love everything about this description.

I would love to expand my collection with J.U.S Bloomastral!

    Greetings from the UK!

I love Emmanuelle’s review of J.U.S Bloomastral. He went into such beautiful detail on this really rare and uniquely extracted Jasmine and this beautiful Osmanthus that has lovely apricot and leather facet to it. It ends with a beautifil and creamy combination of vanilla and sandalwood. What’s not to love. I am a huge fan of the note Jasmine in perfumery and would love to see how it is utilized in this fragrance. I am from Ohio, USA.

  • OOOH, this sounds good. Not too sweet, highly luminous and comforting sounds like an incredible fragrance. I don’t have a lot of jasmine in my collection, but I need to explore more as “there can be no perfume without jasmine”. I really enjoy tangerine and don’t see it a lot in fragrances. I like the variety of sizes it is available in. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • I would like to add this one to my fragrance collection-I’m sure that I don’t have anything like it. I am interested in trying this fragrance for different reasons, e.g. when Emmanuelle says: “The jasmine is intense, stunning and contrasts beautifully with the velvety smoothness of osmanthus”. I want to see what the tangerine in this is like, and I want to see how well perfumer Alexandra Carlin simulates the smell of night-blooming jasmine. I can like jasmine in fragrances. I live in MD., U.S.A. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

  • J.U.S Bloomastral is sophisticated fragrance, with special jasmine, leather and apricot, and in the base creamy sandalwood. Such jasmine fragrances i like , different , pleasing and flashy all together.

  • Thierry de Baschmakoff is one of the biggest workaholics in the fragrance industry, working on an humongous amount of projects. He owns his own agency, drawing perfume bottles, co-creator of The Different Company with Jean-Claude Ellena , and still is their creative director , and co-creator of J.U.S. too . Fun fact is that he’s a relative to Jean-Claude Ellena too , not just friend and business partner , me and my elephant like memory 🙂
“offering 25 ml and 100 ml bottles that can be recycled and resourced”
Not exactly , J.U.S. Sensory Jewels line are indeed 25 and 100ml , but the more upscale Unique like bottles are available in 75ml only.
Bloomastral I do not know, but all others I do , I own the sample set.
I love jasmine, only if it’s not too indolic, dirty and carnal. According to Emmanuelle Varron Bloomastral is slightly funky, but do not cross the line , with the leather, sandalwood adding to composition.
My favorite J.U.S. fragrances are Coffeeze and Sexycrush .
All profiles I already follow, plus @debaschmakoff and @wormserbrigitte
    Thanks a lot

  • I can’t say I’m cheap, but I like saving money when buying fragrances, one way or another. To me being able to buy big refill , or decanter , potentially even split it with friends, is a major factor!! Our mutual hobby of buying niche perfumes is expensive , when I think about it, I’ve spent $700 in October alone , for fragrances and samples.
Bloomastral attracts me with its fruitiness, leather, mandarin and voluptuous jasmine.
Jasmine fragrances I like are complex , and unique , just like Bloomastral.
    Thank you all

  • Emmanuelle Varron take on J.U.S Bloomastral reminded me of making the classical Peach Cobbler , and eating it while sitting on a leather couch, and having big jasmine bouquet right next to me.
Jasmine fragrances has to be paired with some sweet notes , one dimensional aka nothing else than jasmine are not my style.
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign

“and the mouillette has not left my notebook since”
I’m a bit confused, you don’t mean the Mouillettes , the little soldiers, some consider the Ultimate French Breakfast Comfort Food , right?!?
They are little fingers of toasted bread that you dunk in a soft-boiled egg ,camouflaged with bacon, ham or a thin slice of salmon

  • Just like every other fragrance genre, and note , I like my future jasmine fragrance to tell me a story, not a short one , but one one with unexpected moments and ending.
To be fair, most of jasmine fragrances I’ve tried in 2021, both designer and niche, were letdowns.
I like Bloomastral story, written by Emmanuelle Varron, sexy and seductive fragrance with leather and apricot undertones. Cuddling fragrance i believe, just like in the old Doors song “Come on Baby, light my fire” , I think Bloomastral could start the fire well
    Thanks for the opportunity
