Interview with Geza Schoen: The New Escentric Molecules M+ Collection (2021)+Behind the Bottles Draw

Escentric Molecules M+ Collection by Geza Schoen

collage by Michelyn of Geza Schoen, iso e super and Escentric Molecules M+ Collection

In 2005, perfumer Geza Schoen (Geza Schön)changed the olfactory landscape with his introduction of Escentric 01 and Molecule 01. Over the past 11 years, I have interviewed Geza Schoen numerous times for CaFleureBon as well as for other publications. If anyone would have asked me that “Iso E Super in a bottle” would become one of the most well-known niche fragrances in the world back then, I would have been skeptical. Geza told me how it all happened, and it was happenstance. He was testing ingredients in his lab and just dabbed on Iso E Super before going to a Night Club. Women were attracted to the scent and asked where they could buy it. His fragrances (for his own brands or for other commissions) have a signature that is uniquely his. I learned of the new Escentric Molecules M+ Collection last month but wanted Geza Schoen to speak directly to his latest creations (all in small caps) Escentric Molecules M+ Iris, Patchouli and Iris  based on one of the most game changing perfumes of the past 20 years, Molecule 01.Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

Michelyn Camen: Escentric Molecule (Iso E Super) and its companion 01 were revolutionary in 2005. Did you ever think it would become one of the most ground breaking concepts in modern perfumery?

Geza Schoen: well i thought that it would have an impact on the market in one way or another but of course nowhere near what then happened. we do know now iso e super does not only have a beautiful olfactoric note with these cocooning, velvety woody shades plus this erotic feel about it, it does stimulate one of our 5 remaining pheromone receptors, that i think explains why people are mad for it and it simply has this animal magnetism about it.

Michelyn: Escentric 01 is a mix of ingredients such as Orris, incense and lime with iso E Super. What percent is iso E Super. Can you talk a little about why you the original is now revisited-15 yrs later and why you added 3 new versions?

Geza Schoen: escentric 01 has a little more in it than just those you mention – topnote is lime and pink pepper, the heart has a big chunk of hedione,  and this orris note, next to mastic, incense and musks including some other woody booster with a base of 65% iso e super. M+ is different to escentric01, which i always said is an homage to iso e super and its multifaceted capacities. Escentric M+ is the idea to use its strengths (iso e super ) with just one other ingredient complex.

Michelyn: Why did you choose mandarin, patchouli and iris as the ingredients for the new fragrances and can you describe a little about each one. Are they all natural or accords? How do each enhance or change the original.

Molecule 01 M+ Iris

Geza Schoen: M+ iris was the fragrance which initiated the M+ series. Sophie (his partner) always had a sweet spot for fragrances with iris in them. so she asked me to come up with a sheer iris fragrance for her. i wasn’t going to do the usual here and add lots of other stuff next to that as it only would have overlayed or even covered the subtle beauty of iris. so i decided to stay simple and based the iris note i created next to a huge quantity of iso e super. she started wearing it and was soon inundated with compliments from work colleagues to people  on the street stopping her. i sent samples of it to London and my partners there had similar experiences with that note, so we thought we need to do something with this. while looking at the formula which hasn’t even 10 ingredients all together it became clear that this is how Escentric M+ 1. the concept was born.

Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 + Patchouli

Then, patchouli as we hadn’t done anything really with this super classic blockbuster element and the marriage between the patchouli base i made and iso e super was overwhelming, it produces one of the biggest projections i have ever come across but it is still subtle and not overpowering, very important! patchouli in a new airy shape with all the lovely earthiness it has.

Molecule 01 M+ mandarin escentric molecules

Escentric M+ mandarin is the one where you have a topnote burst unlike the other two (iris is more a heartnote and patchouly a base note). i used a big portion of a beautiful mandarin oil here and touched it up with traces of a few other ingredients to make the mandarin  (i think that might be your favorite, michelyn?)

Thanks to the folks at Escentric Molecules we have a draw for TWO registered readers (you must do this or your comment won’t count), What did you learn from reading Michelyn’s Interview with Geza Schoen, which you would like to win, where you live and if you are a fan of Escentric Molecules.

I have not yet had the chance to explore the Escentric Molecules universe, but these fragrances’ reputation very much precedes them!
I was very surprised to find out just how minimal the new collection was in terms of ingredients, which only makes me more curious about them!
If I am lucky enough to win, I would love Molecule 01 + Iris. And I am based in Romania!
    Many thanks!

  • Brad Woolslayer says:

I had the pleasure of wearing Molecule 01 to work and got several great compliments. One lady told me that I should stop wearing the other fragrances and only wear Molecule 01. I think I would like to win Esentric M+ Mandarin, since I also love the citrus accord of mandarin. I enjoyed hearing how Iso E Super can trigger a pheromone receptor and also how Geza Schoen once wore Iso E Super to a club and got so much attention about it. I live in Maryland USA.

    I love Molecules 1, 2, 4 and Essentrics 2 & 4. Those are my go-tos

  • Thank you, Michelyn for this great interview! It’s hard to believe that 15 years has gone by, in the blink of an eye! It’s interesting to know that one wear to a club and that became the blockbuster that it is. It’s also interesting to see what we’ve learned about ISO E Super in the past 15 years, it makes sense that it is pheremonic.

I have had a couple Escentric Molecules Sample sets and thoroughly enjoyed them. I do have several on my “to buy” list.

I would love the M+ mandarin, should I win – and thank you to Escentric Molecules for the prize.

  • What I learned from Michelyn’s interview is how Geza is willing to try new ideas and not bound to only natural ingredients, but what chemistry can offer. I also like that the ingredient list is not too long, so the perfumes highlight iris, patchouli or mandarin, in different perfumes. I haven’t tried any perfumes by Escentric, yet, but would love to. If I win this draw, I would like to get Escentric Molecules Patchouli, though the other two sound lovely too. Thanks for the generous draw and interview. I am in USA.

  • I think this is super exciting! I liked what I had the chance of smelling already from Escentric Molecules, so this is really cool!
I am in Canada, and I truly appreciate the giveaway. My choice would be Escentric M+ Iris.
    Thank you so much!

  • Sorry, I prematurely posted my comment before finishing! (please disregard the first incomplete one!)

I think this is super exciting! I liked what I had the chance of smelling already from Escentric Molecules, so this is really cool! From the interview, I was blown away to learn that the brand began 15 years ago. Also surprised that the original has Orris in it – a truly wonderful note.
I am in Canada, and I truly appreciate the giveaway. My choice would be Escentric M+ Iris.
    Thank you so much!

  • I get it what Geza means when he says he could not have predicted how big Molecule Series will turn out to be. It was a simple but brilliant idea to introduce beautiful molecules as standalone wear to the public. My choice is Escentric M+ Iris since Iris is the note that gave birth to the idea of the series as evident by Sophie’s story. USA.

  • I have a small decant of Molecule 01 and when I wear it, people are definitely drawn to it. It’s probably one of my most commented on fragrances. I can definitely believe Geza received a lot of inquiries the first time he wore it in public. I found it interesting that the 3 solo notes he focused on for this Escentric series were head (mandarin), heart (iris) and base (patchouli). I also am an iris fanatic and I appreciate that he let the beauty of the soliflore come through in his Escentric M+ iris. That said, I’m most interested in his treatment of patchouli with its new airy shape and would choose the Escentric M+ patchouli. Commenting from MD, USA.

  • Reading Michelyn’s Interview with Geza Schoen, I think I get how you really don’t have to overthink an idea to make something work. He based these scents off of simple ideas or common notes and experimented with that! I would love to win the m+mandarin for summer. I live in Chicago, IL and yup I am a fan of Escentric Molecules. Love the escentric 01 and 05.

  • zhiang0113 says:

From the post, I really enjoyed the story of the conception of the Molecule + series – about how it was created by as a gift for his partner! That was a sweet and very romantic gesture! I personally think the dry, starchy notes of orris would also go very well with the woody-ambery notes of Iso E Super, and it sounds like a fantastic combination!

I deeply appreciate Escentric Molecules’ concept of bringing aroma molecules to the forefront of fragrance, for they are the workhorses of perfumery and also deserve to have time in the spotlight! I own Escentric 02 and enjoy the aromatic burst of freshness at the top, and the drydown has a je ne sais quoi quality to it.

I live in the UK, and would love to be able to win Escentric M+ Iris. Thank you to CaFleureBon and Escentric Molecules for hosting the giveaway!

  • I think the Molecule fragrances are incredibly clever. I don’t have much experience with them, but I find the idea brilliant. Geza’s work at Ormonde Jayne is absolutely mindblowing though. So I am excited to explore his M+ line. Less is more. If I win, I would love to have a bottle of the Iris. I live in Denmark, EU.

  • The Escentric Molecules fragrances are examples of when simple is better. I’ve only tried Molecule 01, which is a great intro to layering. If I should win, I would like Escentric Molecules M+ Mandarin. I am USA based.

  • A dream come true.
Molecule 01 plus Iris !!!!!!!!! uffffff I need to try it now. Molecule 01 was my first niche fragrance and I have a very special affection for it, and iris is my favorite note, so the mixture of the two I am sure is going to be spectacular.
It is curious, reading Geza, how many times the most “simple” perfumes in terms of composition are the most successful and that is undoubtedly what will happen with the M 01 + series.
I would like to win Molecule 01 + Iris. Greetings from Spain.

  • It was cool to hear how Geza came up with the first M+ fragrance and I loved Michelyn’s questions. I think I’m most interested in M+ Patchouli. I’ve heard so much about Escentric Molecule but have never tried them. Thank you for this opportunity.

    Best,

    Bear

  • I was very intrigued when I first heard about these new offerings. I saw Sebastian’s internees with Geza Schoen from a few days ago. It was very interesting learning from Michelyn’s interview that the combination with patchouli makes that version of M+ one of the biggest projecting perfumes. As a patchouli lover I’m looking forward to testing it out. I’ll be early awaiting Sebastian’s detailed reviews. I have tried all of Escentric Molecules perfumes and I love several of them. I like escentric molecules more than regular molecules. In case I’m picked I would for sure pick M+ Patchouli. I’m from Illinois, US.

  • I haven’t explored Escentric Molecules fragrances but they seem minimalistic and intriguing. If I were a lucky winner, I would select Molecule 01 + Iris. I am in the USA.

  • We always hear the term “less is more” and in the case of this house that approach seemed to work in an overwhelming way. Im interested in Mandarin. I live in Indiana USA

  • I absolutely appreciate these fragrances!!! With Molecule 01 I fell in love with the light cedar scent of that fragrance. It’s my favorite scent of all time. Unfortunately I have not been able to get my hands on a discovery kit to smell them all(fingers crossed). I am from Ohio, USA and I would love to try any and all of them but if I have only choose one of them…I would choose Escentric M+ Iris ! Thank you for this opportunity and good luck to everyone!

  • I learned a lot about iso e super and how it not only appealing in smell but is just in pure attraction. Definitely would like to try Escentric Molecules and become a fan. I would like to win the Molecule 01+Iris. They all sound great and it was a toss up with Iris and Patchouli.
    USA

  • I saw Sebastians video with Geza Schoen and what stuck out to me both from that and this interview is what he said about how its been found that ISO E Super stimulates one of our five pheromone receptors. So people have a physical reaction to it aside from just attraction to the smell. I think that is really interesting. I’m from CT USA and I’ve not tried any of the Escentric Molecule fragrances as of yet. If I was to win I’d choose, Escentric M+ Iris. Thanks for the generous draw.

  • wilsonwc76 says:

I’ve always been intrigued by Escentric Molecule, especially after hearing about it from friends. And now I’m even more intrigued after reading about the secret power of iso e super! I have to try this! And I love pairing it with mandarin because citrus scents are my favorite. So the Mandarin is definitely the one I would most want to try. I’m in NYC.

  • Then, patchouli as we hadn’t done anything really with this super classic blockbuster element and the marriage between the patchouli base i made and iso e super was overwhelming, it produces one of the biggest projections i have ever come across but it is still subtle and not overpowering, very important! patchouli in a new airy shape with all the lovely earthiness it has. If I am lucky to win I would love to win M+ Patchouli because I love Patchouli. I am familiar with Escentric molecules a house that I am intrigued by I loved how Geza wore iso e super to a nightclub and the reactions that he got really impressed me. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

A beautiful piece by Michelyn I am intrigued by Escentric M+ Patchouli the most because of the earthy notes. A house that I am familiar with but I have not delved into as of yet. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • I am mostly curious about the iris one for it is a special creation made for his partner and it looks like a compliment getter.
Thanks for the article! I am in EU.

  • flosolentia says:

Thanks for the interesting interview! Geza is truly an innovator of his time! I love the very first Molecule 01. And I would probably like the Mandarin from this trio.

    Wisbech, UK

  • Although Molecule 01 is my favorite perfume, which gets me compliments EVERY TIME i wear it, I didn’t know the story behind it. Thanks to Michelyn, I do now. Fabulous interview. I’m a fan of E.M. and I own 5 of their offerings. I will be happy to try the new fragrances, especially Escentric M+ Patchouli.
    Greetings from Greece

I am absolutely obsessed with escentric 01, it is so divine for my nose. I tried couple other one but escentric 01 is my favorite.  I would love to win Esentric M+ Mandarin, I think it would be my great companion for spring summer season. Also, it was so interesting to learn about ISO E Super and the story behind the first perfume of Escentric Molecules, thank you Michelyn for sharing such a great article and interview with Geza Schoen.

  • Thanks to Michelyn for this interview with Geza Schoen. It is interesting these two directions we have now in perfumery: One side, for example Mr. Schoen try new ideas with all chemistry can offer and others like Mr. Hiram Green are bound to only natural ingredients. Both are valid for arriving same conclusions: scents well made that smell great. So interesting to see the happenstance that. Mr. Schoen rub Iso E Super on his skin, went to a club and got so many compliments! So much work still to do about pheromones!!. I live in Spain and I would love to win the Escentric M+ Mandarin! Gracias!

  • I’m a huge fan of the Escentric Molecules line (I wear Molecule 02 just about every day!). This collection sounds so exciting, and Molecule 01 + Mandarin would be my choice! Washington State, USA

  • Great interview! I’ve tried a few of Escentric Molecules perfumes in Paris. To me they defined modern minimalist perfumery. You can really see that they inspired a lot of other houses and perfumes such as Le Labo Another 3 and Juliette Has A Gun Not A Perfume.
I would love to try the new M+ patchouli since patchouli is my favorite note. I’m intrigued about their take on patchouli.
Thank you for the generosity of the giveaway. I live in France.

  • Thank you Michelyn and Geza for this chance!

The most interesting thing, for me, in this review is this explanation of Geza
    – “i wasn’t going to do the usual here and add lots of other stuff next to that as it only would have overlayed or even covered the subtle beauty of iris…”

That is my biggest problem with all iris centered fragrances, the scent of iris and orris is so, so subtle and now I know that I must look for a simple pyramid of notes, not not a whole amalgam including iris / orris notes.

Of course, I would love to enter for – Escentric Molecules M+ Iris.

Thank you for the chance! My favorite, so far, is Escentric 02.

    I live in Europe.

  • I only had the opportunity to briefly test them a few years ago. But I remember them as playful and hard working. If the draw was in my favour I would choose Escentric M+Iris, since it’s my favorite note.
    From France.

  • I’ve never owned a bottle in this line, but I’ve tried a number of them and I have been intrigued by every one. It was interesting to hear the history straight from the source. M+ Iris would be my choice and I live in the US.

  • Love the molecule series!! i already have the first one ever lanched but since I love iris in my fragrance I would love to try (and maybe own) the Escentric M+ Iris. Fingers crossed. Sending Love from Italy! Milan and be safe!

  • I know molecule 1 and 4 very well, they are particular perfumes because the skin reacts in a unique way to these fragrances. I don’t want to offend the creator, but I also use these as layering with others, getting a peculiar and personal scent every time.

  • I love the attitude of less is more, and I’m happy to see that iris is a big part of the brand. I love iris! I would be pleased with Eccentric M + Iris. Usa. Thank you for the chance to win. I have read about the brand but haven’t tried anything yet.

  • I have tried many from the line (not these new ones). I like them. I would like to win the M+ Iris. I learned why at this time Geza chose iris. US

  • Wow. I learned about Geza’s process in creating these new scents, which I found fascinating. I am in the US and I am a huge FAN. They all sound fantastic, but I am intrigued by the airy patchouli. I’d like to win Escentric M+ Patchouli. Thanks!

  • I find Escentric Molecules fragrances to be very special and chameleonic. It depends very much on the fragrance and the moment I am trying it, whether I can smell it, what it smells like and the intensity. Sometimes they’re so gentle, even ghostly, other times they are really warm and pulsing and even “inconsistent” in notes and I find that utterly fascinating. It was actually quite interesting to find out about the real composition of Escentric 01 from this interview.
I would love to try Escentric M+ Iris, both because it was the first one of the three that Geza came up with, and also because iris is a note I really like.
    I am in EU. Thanks!

  • Georgette Williams says:

I have been owning molecule 0 1 for years can’t tell you how many bottles I have went through, The Performance of this fragrance is like no other to me I have other niche perfumes in my collection but it’s sad to say it can’t stand up to molecule 01, Whenever I wear this fragrance I receive compliments from Co Worker’s family friends and I just enjoy it!! One of the best hands down. I would be Super excited if I am picked to receive M + Patchouli Thanks, New Orleans Louisiana!!! The home of flavor!!!!

  • IvanVelikov says:

It was nice to learn about the new Escentric M+ fragrances, M+ Mandarin, M+Patchouli and M+ Iris. Safe not overly complex scents do have their role in my life , especially at work.
Trying fragrances through friends and family was a nice way to get unbiased feedback , I like Iris too , just like his girlfriend Sophie.
Molecule 01 I use for layering purposes, works really well with fresh citrus fragrances. That’s why my pick is Escentric M+ Mandarin
    Thank you for the draw.
    USA , rarely Paris France

  • I’d like win the patchouli. Honestly not a huge fan of EM but hopefully this new iteration will change my mind. I’m in the US. Cheers.

  • Mumoftheyear says:

WoW this was a wonderful detailed interview. I have heard about this particular line of fragrances but I have been hesitant since I do not like over powering perfumes and fragrances. I learned from this interview that it is not always about how much you put into a fragrance it is about the quality. Which is good to hear. I am most interested to try any of them to be honest.

  • Christos GX says:

Amazing information,i was not aware that iso e super and the fragrance that made it known was just a lucky moment, also i was not aware that iso e super stimulates one of our pheromone receptors.I have tried and i experieced molecule 01 and escentric 01,molecule 04 and escentric 04(huge fan of molecule 04 and 01).If iam lucky to win,i would love either one of them, but mainly Escentric M+ Patchouli or Escentric M+ Mandarin!.I live in Greece
Great first enntrance and iam anticipating the chance to try them!

  • Brianna Conner says:

Would love M+ Mandarin & the sampler. Adore this article & the perfumes
    From California. Thank you

  • Never tried any of the the Escentric Molecules or by Geza Schoen for that matter. But looking at all the raving reviews this sounds like right up my alley!! I really like the minimal look and the way the perfumes are set up. I like minimal music as well so would love to try this out! If I might win, probably not, but if, then I would love to win Escentric M+ Mandarin. Living in the EU
    Many many thanks!

  • Wow great read, I really like the passion Geza has. I am a huge fan of Escentric Molecule 01 I was using it waaaay before the hype and I knew it would great on my skin as I have really dry skin. After the first initial spray and 20 minutes later I was detect a wonderful scent that’s when I knew this was for me. Since then it’s always in my collection and I use it regularly on its own or to layer with weaker performing fragrances. I like the fact that Geza is willing to try new ideas and push what chemistry can offer in perfumery. I usually never enter these giveaways as I feel I would never win but if I was fortunate enough I genuinely would be happy with any of the new offerings. I am based in London, UK. Best of luck to everyone else entering in this great giveaway. Thank you for the opportunity and generosity

  • I loved reading the interview. It is hard to believe that the first Molecule was launched so long ago!
I adore Molecule 01 and 05. And I’m very much excited to try the new ones.
I would love to win M+Iris
    I am from the EU.

  • I’ve always been interested in Escentric, however I have not had a chance to try anything from this house. The concepts sound fascinating! I would love to win Escentric M+ Mandarin. I love forward to hearing more from Sebastian!
    From Canada
    Thank you!

  • Rhonda Johnson says:

I own molecule 01,eccentric 02 and molecule 02! I love anything with iso super. This perfume line is great for layering with other fragrances and on its own and I would love a chance to win one of the new releases especially the iris and the Mandarin one. Iris and orange are my two favorite notes☺

  • Definitely a fan of Escentric 04, but none of the others have really wowed me. Time to give them another shot! Didn’t know that Iso E stimulated a pheromone receptor though. Also remember Geza mentioning in an interview with Sebastian that he tried quite a few combinations with Iso E that just didn’t work. Glad he found a few that did! Great to hear that M+patchouli had such massive projection too! Wouldn’t think that would be the case, but there you go. My choice would definitely be Escentric M+mandarin. From Canada.

  • mirjamraabis says:

I love the classic Molecule 01, like many others I use it to boost other perfumes, but I also love wear it on its own, it is comforting and sexy at the same time. It is hard to choose one from the M+ collection, but I have to say Escentric M+ Patchouli intrigues me the most.
    I am from Tallinn, Estonia.

  • wandering_nose says:

This is amazing! Thank you Michelyn, thank you Geza! I am in love with Geza’s masterpieces, I have Molecule 01, Molecule 02 and Escentric 01 and adore all of them for their absolute uniqueness. This is the very first time I have heard about the new collection being released and I am thrilled! I like it that Geza has utilized 3 very different notes as the +1’s, each placed on a different level of the olfactory piramide. I also love how the M + Iris was taken to the streets to test it out! I would love to win the Escentric M+ Patchouli as I have been obsessed with patchouli fpr the past few months. Based in the Republic of Ireland, EU. Happy Saint Patrick’s Day all!!!

  • I am a huge fan of Escentric Molecules! I get the most compliments whenever I wear M01 and M04… it’s crazy! I also love Patchouli and Iris notes, so I’d love to try all 3, but I am particularly excited about the Molecule 01 + Iris. I live in LA, CA, USA. Thank you for sponsoring this giveaway!

  • stephen omole says:

    Hey,

I love the fact that Geza Schoen more or less came about this because of his partner who wanted a special fragrance and then he experimented with various other notes. As well as the composition being used personally for a while amongst friends before being put into production. It just shows the process involved in making these fragrances, which could potentially be an icon.
I would like to win the Escentric M+ Mandarin, just because it’s coming to summer and it’ll be perfect for the season.
    I am from the UK

  • Heather C English says:

This was a fantastic interview. What a joy to listen to the creative and intellectual mind that developed this ground breaking collection. Obsessed with the thought of the Mandarin! I am in Oregon, US

  • Taurus Broadhurst says:

Molecule 01 is my favorite base for pretty much whatever cologne I’m wearing for the day. I like hearing how Geza has worked to expand the Molecule 01 and Escentric 01 scent palettes. Excellent interview!!!

  • Escentric Molecules are famous for safe pleasing fragrances, and that’s exactly what I’m expecting from Escentric M+ Line . It was interesting to me how the whole idea for the line, came from a custom made for Geza Schoen girlfriend fragrance.
Molecule 01 I had up until recently.
Escentric M+ Mandarin is the most appealing to me.
Thanks for the interview, and the draw

It’s amazing to know that Geza wore a chemical to a night club. That’s confidence .

I have not wore or samples Escentric Molecules. Am unable to fathom how other perfumers just didn’t have the appetite to just go with one note. Brilliant stuff.

I would like to win M+ Mandarin as am a sucker for fresh fragrances . And summer is soon approaching.

Am from UK and live in London .

  • Ohhhh Wow Fantastic combinations!!!!!! ESCENTRIC MOLECULE 01 M+ IRIS…. wow it´s can be better!!!!! Hope I win I never won anything hahaha! I will check it immediately! I love the concept of ESCENTRIC MOLECULES.

  • Interesting hearing about Molecule 01, how it basically started by dabbing ISO E super on before going to a night club, I wonder if would have been a fragrance today if it got no attention from women on that night out,Molecule 01 and Creed was first two niche fragrances I ever heard about on my fragrance journey.

  • Thank you for another great article Michelyn! I always get a little bit excited when I read any news about Geza Schoen, because I find that his creations are light years ahead of everyone else.

I can’t believe Molecule 01 is already over 10 years old. I have it and find that it is a perfect fragrance whenever I struggle to find a fragrance to wear. It’s an ‘any day, any time’ fragrance for me.

I would love to enter the draw to win Escentric M+ Iris!
    Greetings from the UK.

  • Greece, Thessaloniki! I am Greek and would love love love +Patchouli!! I think it will make my thoughts travel…. After my nose experiences from Molecule 01 and 02!✨

  • mariotgomez says:

One of the things I enjoyed/learned about Michelyn’s interview is that each of the new M+ focuses on an additional ingredient at the top, heart, or the base of the fragrance.

I have tried most of the Eccentric Molecule fragrances (1 -4) during my days working at Barneys NY (San Francisco). I was not able to try Molecule 5 due to the closing of Barneys and COVID Shelter-in-Place. I look forward to experiencing the M+ Iris or Mandarine.
I live in the USA, CA.
Thanks again for the draws and for continuing to share the love of fragrances.

  • Amanda32828 says:

Awesome creations, very excited about this exciting new take on the Escentric Molecule 01. Escentric Molecules 01 have always been a winner and I’m sure the Molecule 01+ collections it will be just as exciting as all the other fragrances. I’d love to try Molecule 01 + Mandarin. Thank you for a great opportunity commenting from Orlando, Fl.

  • I’m a huge fan of Escentric Molecules! I really like all of them except for 03, however my absolute favorite is Molecule 01 followed closely by 02. I love wearing them on their own and they layer beautifully with other scents as well!
Reading Michelyn’s interview, it was interesting to find out that Iso E Super stimulates one of our 5 remaining pheromone receptors- this definitely explains why people are so drawn to this scent and why people will literally chase you down to find out what perfume you are wearing!
I would love to win Molecule 01 + Mandarin, I’m from Montreal, Canada

  • I have not had the chance to try any of the Escentric fragrances.

It’s very interesting to learn how ISO E Super is a pheromone stimulant. And how the concept of the M+ collection came about, as well as the minimalist nature of the ingredients.

I would love to win M+ Mandarin.

    I live in Toronto, Canada.

    Cheers.

  • Irumkhalid1 says:

I’m so excited! My fave fragrance with elevated notes? What more can a girl ask for? Thank you. Fingers crossed for the giveaway win 🙂

  • I am a huge Escentric Molecules fan and id say my absolute favorite is 01, followed closely by 02. I love wearing these alone and they layer beautifully with other scents!
Reading Michelyn’s article with Geza Schoen it was interesting to find out that iso e super stimulates one of our 5 remaining pheromone receptors- no wonder people are so drawn to this scent and will literally chase you down to find out what perfume you’re wearing!
I would absolutely love to win Escentric M+ Mandarin, and I’m from Canada. Thanks!

  • Very interesting interview! I have tried Molecule 01 and could barely smell anything, but others seem to like it. I really like the simple minimal approach of these fragrances though. My pick would be M+ patchouli. From Canada.

  • What a great interview! I had no idea that Molecule 01 was released such a long time ago now, it just comes to show you how impressing it is with how people are still talking about and recommending it. I personally own a 100ml bottle of Molecule 02 as I’m one of those people who really enjoy the note of Ambroxan and absolutely love it whether I am using it on its own or layering with other fragrances.

Lately I have been looking for a nice summer fragrance, so if I am lucky I would love to get my hands on Molecule 01 + Mandarin. Much love from Great Britain.

  • Khalil Nasir says:

From this I learned so much about iso E super, I first learned of this a couple of years ago how it could enhance the performance of fragrances and purchased Molecule 1. I found out how your partner can influence you to create fragrances, you might not have thought of combining and I am thankful for Sophie for having a sweet tooth because iris has become one of my favorite notes in fragrances. I would like to win Escentric M+ Iris, I am from Durham, NC USA

  • Which you would like to win: ALL THREE!!! lol but maybe the Escentric Molecule + iris
Where you live: I am in the United States of America
If you are a fan of Escentric Molecules: I love watching the reviews and input about these fragrances. They are the bestestest known to man(and woman lol)

  • Paula Jefferson says:

I didn’t know that Iso E Super stimulated a pheromone receptor. I would like to win Escentric M+ Iris. I live in Michigan, USA. I have Molecule 1 and Molecule 2 and Escentric 5 are only my list to purchase.

  • From VA here yet to try Escentric Molecule fragrance, very excited for all three flankers since summer is knocking the door would love to experience M+ Mandarin.

  • I learned the difference between
    Molecule 01 and Escentric 01.
I have to admit I was a little confused.
M+ Patchouli would be my choice.
    USA Mobile. Alabama

  • Thanks for the interview! I am absolutely dying to try Eccentric Molecules fragrances because I absolutely adore molecule scents. I love how they react with my skin! I am enamored with the idea of Iris and Iso E Super. I learned that Schoen’s partner was the driving force behind the iris fragrance because she loves the note, and that when she wore it, she was often stopped and complimented .

If I were to win, I’d love the Iris fragrance. I want to try it so bad!

    I’m in NYC, NY, USA

    Many thanks <3

  • James Alan says:

It is always wonderful to hear the stories and thoughts that go into creating art(as fragrance is indeed an art of the senses). These scents will take us on a journey of our own, but hearing the attention to details that the creator takes is another deeper level. I haven’t had a chance to discover this house until Sebastian did a review of these three. The scents are intriguing and would be excited to experience them. Specifically looking at the +Patchouli as that note always draws me in. I do admire how beautiful the art on the bottles are too. Thanks for the interview and giveaway. Much love from the US!

  • I would love the chance to try the M+ Iris, although I must admit I’ve never had the chance to try Escentric Molecule 01. Based on the reviews and the fragrances I generally go for I think Escentric Molecules seem up my minimalist ally. I live in Portland, Oregon USA <3

  • James Dyer says:

I learned that Mr. Shoen’s partner and her affinity for iris based fragrances led to the new M+ line. That is pretty interesting! I’ve always wanted to try this house and would love to be considered. I live in the USA (Washington state).

  • Zaw win tun says:

I would like to win Molecule 01 + Mandarin and i am so excited to try all of them.

  • I have heard plenty of buzz over Escentric Molecules, but have never had the pleasure of trying one. It’s crazy that ISO e Super has been around for 15 years! It still feels quite modern. I’d love to win Escentric M+ Mandarin. Thanks from the US.

  • Sorohan Adriana says:

I want to win Molecule 01 + Mandarin and have a chance to try samples from the other two. I am from Bucharest Bucharest Europe

  • It was interesting to read about how Geza and his associates tried out Iso e super and some combinations “out in the world” before putting them out for consumers. I’d be happy to win any of these but if I have to pick one, I’m leaning towards Mandarin. The only offering of theirs I’ve tried is Molecule 05, which I like a lot. (USA)

  • They all sound intriguing, as I don’t recall ever using something with this particular ingredient- iso e super. If I were to choose, I would go for the iris one because I like iris.
    Europe. Thank you!

  • ElenaChiss says:

I have heard a great deal about this super ingredient that is more and more used in perfumery, but I do not think I have ever tried something that is purely based on iso e super.
All three of them sound really nice, but if I were to win, I would choose the iris. Many thanks from Europe!

  • I fell in love with Escentrics molecules since I first smelled molecule 4. As a matter of fact, it changed my whole world since my passion for perfumes and olfactions began. I am studying biochemistry to become a perfumer. Your work is brilliant and reveals the power of perfume, very underestimated.

I would love to win M+ Iris. I live in Paris, France

    Thank you so much !

  • Derek Bedinghaus says:

I think this is a smart move and great idea to add certain notes to be amped up for layering or just by themselves if it’s a note you really love. I like that he explained the “why” of the notes chosen. Would love to win Escentric M+ Patchouli. I live in OH, USA. I am a fan of Escentric Molecules and hope they continue what they have going on here.

  • I always layer Molecule 01 or Eccentric 01 with my perfume on a daily basis. Eccentric 01 gives a fresh and sparkling vibe to dry scents. Molecule 01 gives some misterios accent to anything you use.. Mix the two together and you’ll never get bored.

  • jose_laperla says:

This house of Escentric Molecule is amazing. They their Perfumes are so different and so much better than others.
I’m very excited to try the new M+ line! I’m sure these fragrances will not disappoint your nose! I would love to have
Molecule 01+ Patchouli for my first fragrance of this line.
    Minnesota, USA

  • Esscentric Molecules for me have always been the crowd pleasers or compliment getters. With Molecule 01 people are drawn to it and usually they comment on not knoeing where the scent’s comming from.
Besides the point, but I love Geza Schoens work for Ormonde Jayne.
I’d love to win the Moleculle 01 Iris
    I’m in Slovenia, EU

  • Molecule is new to me, but from all the positive reviews it seems like something I need in my collection. I would be most interested in the Mandarin line. Thanks from NY.

  • Sandro Mateush says:

I like that part where Sophie (Geza Schoen partner) gets compliments & people on the streets asking about her fragrance – this is telling a lot for me.
I’m in love with Molecule 01 – so sensual, smooth, delicate & unique fragrance. Perfect match for a white shirt. Universal scent which brings you calmness and meditative sophistication.
I would love to try all M+ Collection and number one for me is M+ Iris. I love iris as a note and this combination with Iso E Super sounds close to my soul.
    I’m from EU, Kyiv, Ukraine

  • Stephen Moreira-Jones says:

The interview was fascinating, especially reading how Geza discovered the amazing affect Iso-E-Super can have on people when he went to the night club.
I discovered Molecule M01and E01 in London in 2005; they quickly became favourites for me. Multiple friends, including my mother, have been converted in to fans. Iso-e-Super is a mysterious smell, people say they can’t detect it, but once they do then it is very distinct.

My mother was undecided about my gift of E01 until she was on a cruise ship vacation. When she returned she was like an excited young girl retelling how passengers kept asking what she was wearing! She’d never had complements for any pefume before let alone dozens!

I am in Canada. If I win, I’d love to have the M+ Iris please as I intend to gift it to my brother and make him a convert too.

  • I’ve been looking forward to a new release from Escentric Molecules, a revolutionary house when it comes to fragrances. I own Molecule 02 and I’m so curious to try the new scents. I currently live in Romania.

  • ANDREEA ELENA TIMOFTE says:

    Hello,
I would looove to try Escentric M+ Patchouli. I don’t know any of this fragrances. I live in London, UK.

  • This sounds so exciting! Such an interesting concept! I am especially curious about M+ Iris, for now I own M1 and E3 and love both of them 🙂
    Greetings from San Diego!

  • Escentric 02 I received for Christmas in 2019. Honestly I was not expecting much, but to my surprise it actually projects pretty good for ~2 hours.
I like Geza Schoen approach “I do what I do, and don’t care about the others”. Just adding 3 notes to already successful fragrance, and making 3 new potentially really good flankers is his way of doing things.
Escentric M+ Mandarin I think it will work well for the upcoming season, it’s also Michelyn favorite , i’d like to win it.
Cafleurebon and Escentric Molecules I already follow on Instagram , LuckyScent too.
USA only , not for long thankfully

  • Dennis Farillas says:

Hello there im a fan of escentric molecules.. i have escentric 01,02 and 03 but 01 is what ive been using. As a nurse i need something subtle to use at work. Escentric molecules is my dumb reach most of the time. I am really really curious to try the M+Iris .It would be gr8 to add it in my collection.Kind regards

  • I’m glad that Geza listened to Sophie (his partner) and created the M+ Iris, because iris is my favourite perfume note!
I love all of the Escentric Molecules line (regular and Escentric) and i own 4 of them.Of course i would like to try the new ones.
If i win i would like the Molecule 01 + Iris.
    EU,GREECE

  • I own Escentric 01 and love to wear by itself or layer under my weaker but favourite fragrances to give them a boost and prolongue their presence on my skin. I want them all!

  • Hessie Gonzalez-Smith says:

I love Escentric 01 and wear it by itself or layered. On my 3rd bottle now.
Would love to get Escentric 01 + MANDARIN so I can layer with some of my fave summer fragrances for some uniqueness.
    I’m in Alberta, Canada.
Thanks for your generosity and keep up the good work!

  • Joseph Agnese says:

I am a huge fan of Escentric Molecules and particularly Molecule 1 so this release is very exciting to me. Very interesting to learn how ISO E Super triggers a pheromone receptor, I did not know that but now I see why we all like it so much! I am looking forward to trying them all, I am a patchouli lover so that would be my first choice but the mandarin sounds great for summer and I am intrigued by the iris note so I will definitely need to sample all 3. Just last week I was experimenting with wearing Molecule 1 over some patchouli essential oil so this is a fun coincidence! I live in upstate New York and I think any of these will pair well with hiking a trail in the summertime up to a waterfall.

  • Richard Solomon says:

First of all a big Thank You to Michelyn from Cafleurebon for asking the right questions to Geza Schoen. We as fragrance enthusiasts, collectors and just consumers always like to hear the story behind any fragrance creation and the reason for it to be successful.
I have all fragrances from Escentric Molecules collection except the 04 series . And would be gravitating towards Molecule 01+ Iris to win/ try, as have numerous childhood memories attached to Iris scent/smell .
Thanks for the draw and always appreciate Cafleurebon doing great giveaways and articles for their content users . I am from NYC/ NJ area .

  • David Bohill says:

This is such a great idea for a whole line! They could do another one with jasmine or bergamot. Endless layers

  • Chavalia Dunlap-M. says:

I have always been pleasantly intrigued by the whole Escentric Molecules’ collection and anticipate M+ to be no different. Thank you foe the opportunity to experience Geza’s work!

  • Never won anything so i say lets try one more time. Love you guys. Hope luck is on my side.

  • Bryant Worley says:

I really appreciated the simplicity with which Geza explained how he came about the “M+” concept, giving his partner, Sophie the praise. Very humble. I also liked learning more about Escentric Molecules.

I have not yet had the chance to explore the Escentric Molecules universe, but these minimalist fragrances sound fantastic.x

I was very surprised to find out just how minimal the new collection was in terms of ingredients, which only makes me more curious about them!

If I am lucky enough to win, I would love Molecule 01 + Mandarin, as I love orange in fragrances, and am looking forward to THAT explosion. YEE-HAH!

I live in Waldorf, Maryland, USA.

  • Nice interview, thanks Michelyn
Geza Schoen I know because of Ormonde Jayne fragrances he created , Escentric Molecules fragrances I have never smelled .
I like his point of view, like in the famous quote:
    “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication
    Leonardo da Vinci”
    Escentric M+ Mandarin please
Back and forth between USA and Scotland, two weeks in US -> two weeks in Scotland, and so on. Basically both USA and UK at the same time. Not sure where I fit in this giveaway

  • I own and am a fan of Molecule 01. I enjoy wearing it when I just feel like giving off an “aura” rather than feeling like I’m really wearing a perfume. It really sticks out in my collection. This new collection looks really exciting. If I’m lucky I would like the Escentric M+ Iris. I’m from the USA (MD).

  • Such a great interview, I wish it were even longer. I live in KY, USA and would love to win a bottle of Escentric M+ Mandarin although all three sound delicious. I am already a fan of Molecule 01 but have not yet experienced the original Escentric. Thanks for the opportunity.

  • Escentric 01 remains the bottle with the dent in my collection! It’s a perfect fragrance for me, and I still find it addictive. Patchouli and iris are two of my favorite notes and I cannot wait to see his take on those notes with ISO E Super!! I loved hearing the backstory on how the M+ series got started and because of this I’m dying to try the M+ Iris that started it all!

  • wallygator88 says:

Thank you for the fab interview Michelyn. You asked some great questions and it was a really informative interview.

I have tried Escentric Molecules 01 and I love experiemnting and layering it with other frags, especially citruses.

I would love to win either the Escentric M+ Iris or Patchouli.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • Interesting interview about the concept behind this line. I’m most interested in Escentric M+ Iris. I haven’t tried any Escentric Molecules yet. I live in the USA.

  • bizzare13495 says:

Molecule 01 is one of my favorite fragrances ever, so the addition of mandarin and iris sounds amazing. I’m not the biggest patchouli fan but I have no dought that the fragrance smells amazing.

  • I’m here from Sebastian’s Smelling Great channel. I already own the original Molecule 01 and still love it. I think I’m most interested in trying out the Mandarin one.

  • Iuno Feronia says:

Thanks for this interview, I love EM and I would like to try the new M+ Mandarin, thanks for the draw, I live in the EU.

  • I appreciated learning the difference between Escentric and M+ concepts. The homage to the cult Molecule 01 seems to be perfectly thought out. Just adding one note to complement and upgrade iso e super seems to be an appealing and logical way to move forward. As an avid lover of Molecule 01, I am thrilled to try all three of M+s.
Based on Geza’s depiction and my current way of feeling about fragrances, I would consider first trying Escentric M+ Patchouli. Firstly, I was intrigued by Geza’s mention of the strong, but not an overpowering projection. Secondly, patchouli is a lovely note, that is usually used in concoctions with many other players. In my mind, I can not imagine how it performs in a duet. So, I am excited to find out.
Escentric M+ Iris would be my second one to sample. Reading about the initial idea of this fragrance confirms my perception of Iris as a romantic note. I am a huge Iris lover and wearing a fragrance that others find also attractive has a certain appeal, too. It was amused by reading about receiving tones of compliments.
Since I have been longing for warmer months to come for a while, I have been compensating with learning, sniffing, and buying citrusy fragrances. So, Escentric M+ Mandarin would be my top choice for the upcoming months and the one I would like to win.
Thanks to Michelyn for a succinct interview with Geza and to Geza for his creative endeavors.
    Writing from Slovenia (EU).

  • Beni Humes Devitt says:

I enjoyed the interview and appreciate that the fragrances selected will enhance the original idea of a minimal approach that’s so nicely done. For people who are more sensitive to smell or enjoy something more natural this is ideal for them. My husband is such a person and it makes it hard to shop for him but we struck gold with Molecule 01. Molecule with Mandarin would be great for spring and just perfect for him. I’d love to win a bottle, I live in Milwaukee WI, USA

  • Simplicity does not mean boring. And though these fragrances are simple with ISO e super being a big player, it is also down to all the other smaller players to help it shine. I’m a fan of their minimalistic approach to fragrances for sure. The Escentric M+ Patchouli would be my pick. I love in Ireland.

  • I have enjoyed my Molecule 01 for some time now and I can attest that I enjoy it and compliment myself but others catch my trail and compliment also. I use it for office wear often and feel very confident in Molecule 01 and what ISO E does throughout the wear. I would really want to try them all but the M+ Mandarin description in this interview and the Redolessence interview and the passion Mr. Geza Schoen showed and described to keep the ingredients close to pure of what is in each bottle sounds amazing and I would really want to have this to wear and appreciate for myself and those around me. Thank you all for this giveaway the time you take to bring this to us fragrance lovers are much appreciated. Good day!!!

  • I would love to win M+ Patchouli, since I’m a big BIG patcho! 😀 i love Molecule 01, 02 and 04, and I live in Croatia, EU

  • I haven’t tried anything yet from this fragrance house yet, even though I’ve heard of them and I’ve been wanting to try fragrances from them. I live in MD., U.S.A. If I win then I’d choose Escentric M+ Patchouli. I love patchouli in fragrances and this one seems like it would be an interesting use of patchouli which I’d like to try. From this article, I learned more about Geza Schoen and how his fragrance house began, I learned more about Iso E Super and about the fragrances that Geza Schoen released, about, 15 years ago.

  • mistyjones says:

Absolutely this interview was most fascinating I love how he talked about fragrances and how well he articulated each detail.I would love to win Esentric M+ Iris, I think it would be my great companion for this upcoming spring summer season. I am very very interesting to learn more about ISO E Super and the story behind Escentric Molecules as a company. I am from the USA!

  • I has somehow never heard the origin story of Molecule 01 before, so I was interested to read it here. I’ve never sampled Molecule 01, but I wear a number of Iso-E Super heavy fragrances and I’d love to try these. If I were to win the draw, I’d take the M+Patchouli. I live in Oklahoma, USA. As always, thanks for the draw!

  • It was interesting to learn that iso e super has a pheromone effect to it. That may explain why it’s such a compliment magnet and why I adore it so much! Really looking forward to the M+ line and trying M+ Iris (to start!). From Chicago, IL

  • I think this is a very good idea. The most interesting here to me is M+ Mandarine.
I love Molecule 01 and 02 and in general the concept of the brand, these are the fragrances that I wear most willingly all days

  • I’ve heard the name dozens, if not hundreds of times, but still i don’t have experience with Escentric Molecules fragrances.
Practical people like Geza Schoen I like a lot , not overly complex scents, rather powerful, people like them , compliments are there …
Escentric M+ Mandarin is the one for me ,It’s still cold on the outside, it will cheer me up I’m sure.
    Thank you for the generosity.
USA , and Germany from time to time

  • Claumarchini says:

I have not yet had the chance to sample Escentric perfumes but they surely are groundbreaking and intriguing! I really enjoyed the interview and would love to be one of the lucky winners. I particularly like Iso e Super so the fact of wearing a fragrance based on an unprecedented concentration of this ingredient is really tempting! Plus, this new M+ collection sounds absolutely amazing, I would go for Iris since it’s my favourite note from the 3. I also enjoyed Sebastian’s review, thanks to both of you as always for the great job!
    Greetings from Italy

  • I simply adore Escentric Molecule. Escentric M+ Iris would be my choice . I live in Germany (Berlin)

  • Patricia A. Wood says:

I would like to be entered in the draw. I enjoyed Michelyn’s interview with Geza, the frangrances’ creator. I am a lover of iris fragrances, so I was happy to hear Geza say that he did not add too much else to the molecule that might distract from the lovely iris. Escentric M+ Iris is my obvious choice if I win. I live in WV, USA.

  • I have read so much about Escentric Molecules and watched so many YouTube videos but have yet to try any. I am so curious about them and loved reading about the 3 you reviewed in this article. Of the 3, I would be most interested in trying Escentric M+ Mandarin.

    I live in the USA.

  • immortano26 says:

I am extremely happy that Geza decided to pick patchouli to new fragrances, it is so classy and good, and it will be definitelly a bulls eye. I am a big fan of Escentric Molecules, i owned Molecule 01, it just a legendary fragrance that every fragrance lover should own at least once in their life. I am a bit surprised that Giza didn’t anticipate tah molecule 01 will be so successful, but i am glad yhat it was. Hope new fragrances will continue the tradition. Poland, EU

  • What a great news !!! Thank you Michelyn for interesting interview! especially why MR Schoen why he added 3 new pefumes after 15 years. I own Escenric 02 and some samples.
I would like to win M01+ Mandarin.

  • petergigov says:

If you’re like me, you like good fragrances, but also like getting compliments, knowing Escentric Molecules is a must. Unsolicited compliments will come your way.
No wonder ladies in the Club were attracted by the way Schoen smelled that night.
Went through 5 bottles of Molecule 01 , the addition of
Mandarin, Patchouli and Iris makes me curious, I’ll try all 3.
Escentric M+ Mandarin i would like to win.
    Thanks Michelyn
    Nice giveaway, USA
    Regards

  • Loved how something so much loved was created from chance (Molecule 01) , and how the same thing happened again when Sophie asked Geza for him to create a fragrance for her.

Unfortunately I had never had the lucky chance of smelling any of Escentric Molecules fragrances, but with such a following and popularity, its obvious that Escentric Molecules fragrances are a success!

I would love the opportunity to win the original creation, Escentric M+ Iris.

    I am from Portugal.

Thank you Michelyn and Geza for giving the comunity this chance.
    Good luck everyone 🙂 !

  • “i think that might be your favorite, Michelyn?”
    We’re on the same page.
Escentric Molecules fragrances I use if I want to prolong the longevity of other perfumes, giving them some woody or fresh twist.
I wonder what kind of twist Escentric M+ Mandarin will give to my gourmands? Both woody and citrusy touch maybe?
Appreciate Michelyn interview , and the giveaway campaign. USA

  • Michael Prince says:

Michelyn great intro and interview with Geza Schoen. He is brilliant in creating all the eccentric molecule fragrances. His newest line M+ focusing on one additional note on top of his original Molecule 01 Iso-E Super formula. I like how he first created M+ Iris for his partner and after the success of that he created Mandarin and Patchouli. I am a huge fan of all the eccentric molecule fragrances especially 01 Iso-E Super and 02 Ambroxan. I think from the new line I would like M+ Mandarin the most, but they all sound good to me. I am from the USA.

  • IvanVelikov says:

It was nice to learn about the new Escentric M+ fragrances, M+ Mandarin, M+Patchouli and M+ Iris. Safe not overly complex scents do have their role in my life , especially at work.
Trying fragrances through friends and family was a nice way to get unbiased feedback , I like Iris too , just like Geza Schoen girlfriend Sophie.
Molecule 01 I use for layering purposes, works really well with fresh citrus fragrances. That’s why my pick is Escentric M+ Mandarin .
Thank you all for the draw.
