Indult Paris Cuir 404 Review (Francis Kukjdian) 2024 + New Take on a Classic Giveaway

Indult Paris Cuir 404 review

Indult Paris Cuir 404 image by J

Indult Paris Cuir 404 is Francis Kukjdian reimagined version of the brand’s 2008 Rêve en Cuir.  I asked our Senior Editor J Wearescentient to accompany Steven’s video with a brief written review.

“Indult Paris Cuir 404 ‘s beautiful spicy floral clove conjures a velvety texture when joined by creamy citruses and spices add aromatic cardamom lets the clove’s edges defuse into a soft velvety musk like haze. The 404 of Indult Paris Cuir 404 is a clever name, 404 is usually the code for something that’s not found but there, quite like the leather in this composition. The spices give Cuir 404 a electric sparkle that fizzles over the creamy cardamom citruses, it’s like a smooth leather that cracks for the first time as it fits to your body. The clove softens too as it morphs into a soft suede nap, a rather sensual beautiful texture that plays against the more intense spices that give the leather a bright sheen. Musky rooty woods give Cuir 404 a luxurious sensation; a powdery and lightly smoky vetiver and cedar wrap around you like soft material, a silky lining from this invisible leather jacket. Indult Paris Cuir 404 is smooth and luxurious with a bright-spiced wood elegance; it’s a  wonderful take on leather”. –J Wearescentient, Senior Editor

I love leather fragrances, very masculine note on perfumery, thanks redolescent for video

  • I’m honestly blown away by how deeply Cuir 404 seems to capture that mix of modern elegance and raw sensuality. Reading J Wearescentient’s review, it’s like I can feel the scent smooth leather softened by clove and creamy cardamom, with those flashes of spice keeping it alive and electric. The way J describes the texture of the scent is mesmerizing; I love the idea of this ‘invisible leather jacket’ wrapping you in soft, smoky woods and suede-like warmth. And that 404 reference is so clever, suggesting a kind of mysterious, subtle leather note that makes itself felt without ever shouting for attention.

Then Steven’s video really brings it all home visually he captures the luxurious, sophisticated vibe of Cuir 404 in such an effortless way. It’s not often you see a scent reviewed in a way that blends technical insight with real sensory imagination. The level of detail and passion from both J and Steven makes me even more excited to experience this scent in person! Indult Paris really created something special here.

  • I love spicy florals. Steve noted the clove, Cardamom and pink pepper elevate this scent. Combined with the leather accord, the creamy citruses and cedarwood make this scent a perfect choice for fall and winter.

  • I’m intrigued by Indult Paris Cuir 404 and how it reimagines leather with a unique blend of spices, citruses, and warm woodsy notes. Steven’s video review highlights how the clove, cardamom, and pink pepper add a sparkling warmth that contrasts with the smooth, smoky leather base. The ‘404’ reference captures the idea of leather that’s present yet elusive, giving the fragrance an understated sophistication. I’d love to experience this multi-layered scent firsthand! Salute from Paris 😉

  • Francis Kurkdjian is my favorite perfumer and I had no idea he did indult paris Cuir 404. Learned 404 can be a code for something that’s not found.
Both Stephen and Wearescentient offer a great ways to review this masterpiece.
Leather can be loud but this seems softer.

I really want to own it because I’m a big fan of leather fragrances Have a blessed day.

Cuir 404 seems to be a really lovely take on a leather fragrance. The combination of clove, which I generally think is criminally underutilized in perfumery, with the bright yet still woody notes in the opening followed by smooth suede leather, which I prefer to “regular” leather, just sounds so great.

And Ida’s take on Ju-Ju? She describes it as a meringue-y, pillowy, fluffy, caramelic coffee, vanilla and amber scent with white florals. I mean, come on! Who? Wouldn’t? Like? That?

I was wondering why there’s a number on the fragrance but now I get it. Even though there’s a leather accord on this composition, it really is a soft, imaginary leather if you will. The darkness is coming from the cedar wood but not from the leather. Starting from a fresh point of view and then turning dark at the end, it’s a creamy and smooth/suede leather if you will. The spices also brighten the fragrance like J mentioned and there are no rough edges. You must still love leather to like this one but coming from Francis Kurkdjian it’s a mass-appealing scent if you will. Not an envelope pushing scent and great for the fall/winter. I’m located in the USA.

  • Brad Woolslayer says:

I enjoyed how Steven mentioned how well the clove and leather blend here. Also, J Wearescentient mentioned how 404 is code for something that is not found but there, referring to the leather. I think this would be a great leather fragrance for the fall and would love to own a bottle. I live in Maryland USA.

  • Clove is one of my favorite spices, second only to cardamom, and I’m really excited to see it as a primary component of this fragrance. J spoke of the leather giving a satisfying crack at the beginning and then settling into a softer, suede-like presentation. I imagine the clove would accentuate both sides of the leather quite well, as it can highlight the rougher edges of a hard leather, while it could also serve to round out the softness of a suede. Certainly sounds like an intriguing combo. Steven spoke of it having a minty vibe, with a hefty dose of dark peppery nuance and woods as well. To be honest, I’m having a hard time imagining what this would smell like, but it definitely sounds very interesting. Would be honored to give it a shot. Best of luck to all. I live in NC, USA.

  • I love clove in fragrances. Amouage’s Bracken Man is one of the staples of my collection. So when Steven emphasized it in his review, I was hooked. I honestly wouldn’t have caught the meaning of the “404” in this fragrance’s (new) name had I not read J Wearescentient’s review…and in certain ways J makes me want to try it even more. Though I do like aggressive leathers, subtle leathers are more wearable. I’m in Oklahoma, USA.

  • I love this house, I haven’t tried this one yet. But a good spiced floral always hits the spot. This sounds amazing. Thank you for the giveaway opportunity.

  • Wow when MFK is the perfumer you know it’s a hit!
Creamy and velvety + cloves. I’m fascinated how a scent with the proper accords attached to it can create a “texture” sounds like a very smooth style scent

I’m not a big fan of leather but I like how J describes the leather in this fragrance: “it’s like a smooth leather that cracks for the first time as it fits to your body.” Even though I’m not a fan of leather, I am a fan of Francis Kukjdian.

I like how Steven mentioned clove in the opening of the fragrance. I love the note of clove when it’s done right. I also like pink pepper in fragrances. I never smelled the original 2008 Rêve en Cuir but I’m definitely interested in the reimagined version Indult Paris Cuir 404.

  • Never tried anything from this house, but leather is among my favorites notes. It should be even better that Francis Kurkdjian is the nose behind it, so I am sure it would be a hit. Thanks!

  • I’m a great admirer of Francis Kurkdjian’s creations for different houses. BR 540, Oud Satin Mood, Tihota and Grand Soir were instant crushes for me. There was also Ultra Male at the beginning of my journey. From the intro and Steve’s reviews, it sounds like Indult Paris Cuir 404 checks all my boxes as I’ve lately been on a leathery bent with different Memo Paris leathers. I like that the leather in Cuir 404 does not punch you in the face. Thank you Indult Paris for the kind giveaway. I’m in USA

This fragrance sounds like a delight to wear, though thoroughly unique. I love how the leather here is soft and supple. The spices blended perfectly. I can’t wait to smell this, especially considering the perfumer. I live in Oregon.

  • I loved both J Wearescentient’s written review and Steven’s video! J’s description of Indult Paris Cuir 404 is so evocative—I can almost feel the texture of that “invisible leather jacket” he mentioned. The idea of the leather “cracking for the first time as it fits to your body” really captures the mix of softness and strength in the fragrance. The way he describes clove softening into a suede-like texture, and the musky, woody notes as a “silky lining,” makes the whole scent sound like it’s wrapping you in luxury.

Steven’s video review added so much too. His way of describing how the spiced woods balance with the citrus gives a clearer picture of the fragrance’s brightness and warmth. The two perspectives together really paint Cuir 404 as something special—a mix of classic leather with a modern, spicy twist. It sounds like the kind of scent that has layers to discover each time you wear it. This reimagining of Rêve en Cuir sounds like it’s gone from good to unforgettable!

  • From the written portion I learned how the name relates to the leather note. The video let me know the 404 is a re-imagined perfume. US

  • Absolutely loving this deep dive into Indult Paris Cuir 404! J’s written review really captures that paradox of soft and intense, with the way clove and creamy cardamom create this almost ‘electric sparkle’ around the leather it’s such a unique way to describe scent. I also love the clever nod to the ‘404’ name, like a mystery you’re drawn to but can’t quite capture. The idea of this smooth leather softening into a suede texture as it melds with the skin is so evocative, makes me think of a well-loved jacket that’s aged beautifully. Steven’s video brings a different layer, especially with his emphasis on how the musk and vetiver give that soft but lingering presence. It’s cool to see both reviewers mention the dual nature of the leather and spices in the fragrance—it sounds elegant but also alive, constantly shifting. Really appreciate both perspectives and the creative way they each express the complexity of Cuir 404

  • I love leather and cuir accords, as well as clove and rich, resinous woods. This perfume feels especially poetic and sensual. Steven’s reviews are inspiring; he is always professional, precise, and manages to capture and convey the olfactory essence of a fragrance you haven’t yet experienced.
Your review, too – though brief – was both poetic and highly effective.

  • Wonderful reviews from both Steven and J! I love how not just the leather and spices are touched on, but also the notes between the notes. Eugenol

  • (Apologies, comment got posted before I finished so please disregard or delete it).

Wonderful reviews from both Steven and J! I love how not just the leather and spices are touched on, but also the notes between the notes. Eugenol is something I’ve always enjoyed but didn’t know what it was, and I can imagine it plays well with the soft and warm notes of pink pepper, citrus and suede here. I tend to enjoy leather scents that aren’t too intense, and monolithic/one-note in their execution. The 404 connection by J was genius as well, really dying to give this a sniff!

    Hello from Brooklyn!

  • J’s review captures Indult Paris Cuir 404 in such a vivid way! The way he describes the scent’s journey from spicy clove to a soft, musky suede is really transporting. I love the imagery of the ‘electric sparkle’ and ‘velvety texture’ it sounds like the fragrance has so many layers that unfold and shift with wear. The clever nod to ‘404’ as something elusive is such a cool touch for a leather scent, especially since leather is so often bold and obvious. Steven’s video, too, really brought those layers to life visually. His enthusiasm for the brand’s new take on Rêve en Cuir was infectious, and seeing his reactions helped me imagine how the spicy and smooth elements might play together IRL. It sounds like Cuir 404 isn’t your average leather fragrance it’s smooth yet complex, spicy but refined. I’m definitely intrigued!

This one sounds very intriguing. Love a good leather fragrance and I’m always a fan of clove, so the combination makes this one very appealing. In the review the combination is supposed to provide a fizzle, which also peaks my interest. I appreciate that Steven addressed that this is a smooth, non-aggressive leather too. Definitely going to try this one out!!

  • I love J’s description of Cuir 404 as a smooth leather that cracks for the first time as it molds to your body. The spices and citrus seem to give the leather elements some sizzle and snap. Steven noted how the spices add warmth to the cool leather notes. MD, USA.

J’s review of Indult Paris Cuir 404 is beautiful. The way the fragrance is described as a “velvety texture” with spicy floral clove, creamy citruses, and aromatic cardamom paints a sensory-rich picture. The clever nod to the name “404” as something “not found but there” suggests an intriguingly subtle leather presence—an elusive quality that adds to its charm. The interplay of bright, spicy notes and the soft suede-like clove suggests a fragrance that’s both warm and fresh, creating an evolving scent experience.
I love the imagery of leather “cracking for the first time.” This seems like a fragrance that would appeal to me as I appreciate a complex, evolving fragrances with layers of depth. The description of it wrapping around you like an “invisible leather jacket” really makes me want to get my nose on it. Cuir 404 sounds like an intelligent, refined choice that I would love. Since Roja’s Great Britain, Masque Milano’s Russian Tea, and Memo’s African Leather are some of my favorites, this sounds like it would be right up my alley!
As always, Steven’s reviews are fun and engaging, His emphasis on the bright, minty, mentholated opening is more evidence that this is one I would love to have in my collection!

  • That spicy floral clove is something I’ve smelled before in a fragrance and loved. I never smelled the earlier formulation, my local shop just started carrying this line. My computer wouldn’t let me view the contents. Wants me to sign in an confirm I’m not a ‘bot’. I’m signed in. I’m sure Steven described this beautifully as always. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • Leather is one of my favorite family of fragrances and F. Kurkdjian’s works in this category are very interesting (e.g. the Elie Saab leathers). The addition of spices and woods as described in J’s review and Steven’s video sounds absolutely delicious. I need to make sure to try it!
    Greetings from Germany.

  • I appreciated reading J’s written description, which put an emphasis on the almost textile aspect of the fragrance (velvety, silky material, with the freshness of a leather worn for the first time against the skin), as well as Steven’s more technical description from the video. I love that this is a spicy leather fragrance which lacks sweetness, but still has a soft and wearable identity due to the floral aspects, the citrus and especially the clove and cardamom, two of my favorite spices.

  • J wearescentient’ review points out the spicy aspect of this perfume which makes it trilling and electric. Steven’s video helped me “feel” the complex composition of the fragrance, the original result of mixing clove, bergamot, pink pepper, leather, woods. Many base notes that make the perfume last long. Very very interesting!

Loved both J’s and Steven’s reviews! Love the description of an electric sparkle, it really does seem like an interesting take on leather, and I’m generally curious about anything FK does. Both J and Steven made it sound so luxurious and sophisticated! Can’t wait to try it, thank you for the giveaway, and greetings from Romania!

  • I loved the way J described the texture of this fragrance—spice diffusing into “velvety musk”, the spices’ “electric sparkle” fizzing, and the smoothness of the leather and clove. It sounds like the leather “that’s not found but there” is the foundation for everything going on in this composition, but does so in a sly way.

Steven described that eugenol/clove as minty and mentholated and superseding the leather accord—interesting how that note is always notable, but seems to hit folks’ noses differently. I’m glad to hear Cuir 404 is neither particularly sweet or overly bristly with the pink pepper.
