Jean-Louis Michau via NICOLAÏ

It is with the deepest sadness that Patricia de Nicolaï, Axel de Nicolaï and all the NICOLAÏ team announced that Jean-Louis Michau passed away peacefully on October 20, 2019.  Co-founder of Parfums de NICOLAÏ with his wife, the great Patricia of NICOLAÏ, Jean-Louis Michau was the general manager of the brand from its inception in 1989 to 2015. Jean Louis Michau was responsible for all NICOLAI shops and the commercial and marketing business all over the world until 2015 when their son Axel de Nicolaï took over the management.  Jean-Louis Michau was a visionary who believed in the talent of his wife at a time when niche perfumery was at its beginning; when women were not considered fit to be perfumers and when she was told she could not take over the Guerlain business, although she had the ability, technical skills and most importantly the creativity. He was her biggest advocate and due to his support and encouragement she developed a startup brand which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, an accomplishment that very few houses have achieved.  There aren’t many perfumers and niche brands that can claim the level of longevity and excellence for which Parfums de NICOLAI is renowned for.  When I interviewed Madame in 2014,  on the occasion of the brand’s 25th anniversary, she told us just how important her husband Jean-Louis Michau was to her success and to NICOLAI’s success.  On behalf of  all of us at CaFleureBon, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Patricia de Nicolaï, her family and loved ones.  At this time of great sadness, we offer our deepest sympathy.

I never met M. Michau, but I can feel the love you had for each other as partners in life and perfume.  G-d rest the soul of a dear man who helped you to spread your wings and in doing so enriched our lives. We are thinking of you, wishing you solace in the midst of sorrow, comfort in the midst of pain. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
