Hiram Green Voyage 2019 Review (Hiram Green) +The Voyage IS the Destination Draw

Hiram Green Voyage 2019 review

Award-winning natural perfumer Hiram Green decided to launch a new (limited edition) spin on his 2015 release Voyage (which swiftly sold out at the time), much to our delight. In this heavenly revision the suede notes have been replaced by India’s national flower: the lotus. When one considers that Hiram’s original inspiration arose from the infamous James Bond film and Octopussy’s floating palace on Lake Pichola, it makes perfect sense.

Hiram Green Voyage 2019 is nectarously seductive – so tropical, humid, languorous that it proves my theory: the voyage IS the destination. I feel that every fragrance Mr. Green has bestowed upon us is a natural wonder; he has yet to disappoint. Naysayers who profess those all-natural perfumes are fleeting and ho-hum would do well to give his work a more than precursory sniff. No Johnny-One-Note he: Hiram intrepidly delves into a variety of genres with equal success, whether one favors floral, leather or verdant scents. It is as if each perfume is a literary character possessed of many facets which draw you in, in spite of your biases (if you have them – and I suspect that we all do).

Voyage 2019 by Hiram Green Review

Taj Lake Palace flowers for Diwali via wikipedia

Hiram Green Voyage 2019 is Rajasthan in one breath: floating luminously pale upon the 18th century Taj Lake Palace on Lake Pichola. We are enveloped in an ambrosial aura, densely humid, vaporous. Would that all sojourns were adorned with indolent blossoms amidst such splendor. Never mind opulent furnishings for the privileged and moneyed – the aroma alone is worth its exorbitant cost; it renders limbs heavy and filled with longing. Bright citrus notes mimic shafts of sunlight upon still water, an expansive sense of well-being. They introduce the complex tones of lotus (dependent on color and terroir) – always spicy with a kiss of powder and fruit and glowing with its subtle leathery blush. Lotus-dappled water laps gently as a swirling mist of unfolding sweet amber and vanilla surround us like an airborne intoxicant.

Hiram Green Voyage 2019 review

To be cradled without a care and at the mercy of one’s senses is a luxury all its own, unpressured by time constraints. Marble floors, teak, precious woods, silk-swathed capacious cushions, pillows, canopied beds! Cuisines to suit every whim in a locale referred to as the Venice of the East – complete with the leisure to avail yourself of every possible pleasure… This is Hiram’s gift to us, a generous one indeed.

Notes: citrus, lotus flower, amber, vanilla

Sample provided by the perfumer: many thanks, Hiram! It’s delicious!  My nose is my own…

  • How wonderful to be in that place of Venice of the East. With all the scents surrounding you. Sounds so luxurious. USA

  • The Rajasthan in one breath sounds fantastic. Would love to try this natural perfume, especially the lotus note being something I have not experienced before. Boston USA.

  • Lotus! Fantastic! I’ve tried many Hiram Green fragrances and fell head over heels for Slowdive. Thanks for introducing another fabulous creation from him and the opportunity to sniff Voyage 2019. USA

  • Ida’s writing is always precise and sumptuous. That’s tough to execute. I loved the geographical framework. My favorite Hiram Green is Slowdive. Thank you for the drawing. I live in the United States.

I really enjoyed the fact that, with the unveiling of the note changes, the theory was proven true, that the voyage is the destination. And I look forward to the ‘sweet amber and vanilla surrounding me like an airborne intoxicant.’ Love me some amber and vanilla! Unfortunately, I have not had the privilege of trying any Hiram fragrances, but hope to change that. I live in Waldorf, Maryland, USA.

  • Ida’s review is lovely and she creates some beautiful images to connect with Voyage 2019. To be honest though, Hiram Green is one of my much loved perfumers. He truly creates beauty. Voyage is one of my favorite perfumes ever. My bottle has gotten very low and I will really miss it when it’s gone. I would love to try his new Voyage.

  • I am intrigued by this one. Never smelled a perfume with lotus flower as a note. Hope to try it! Ana, Romania

  • Intrigued by the notes of citrus, lotus flower, amber, vanilla. Inspired by the movie Octopussy is fascinating. A house I need to explore. Thanks from the UK

  • I like that the review suggests very well the mysterious character of the perfume and of the world that it is inspired from. I have never been in that part of the world, but I would love to test Voyage. I live in Romania.

  • Intrigued by the notes especially lotus flower, and amber. Great that it was inspired by Octopussy’s floating island on lake pichola. Cheers from UK

  • I love humid perfumes, even though from my experience, they seem to be more on the fresh/floral side. I would be delighted to try such an opulent, royal oriental concoction which still keeps this vaporous humid dimension. Would also be my first from this house.
    Thanks! From the EU.

  • the notes and their order sound very appealing—and seems to evoke a floating palace. alas no, i do not have fav hiram green perfume yet! optimistic though in california. thank you

  • This perfume house has fascinated me for a long time, but I’ve never smelled it, I have to try them natural perfumes and with a beautiful personality, I also like the bottle very much. The prize won is the highest award. Compliments

There is seduction in the scent of the lotus, and in the warm, humid night air of India. This scent sounds wonderful and just in time for the warm Australian evenings to come. I love all of Hiram’s scent – I couldn’t possibly pick a favourite, but am truly enjoying all things sweet, powdery and sensuous right now. I live in Australia.

  • This is three part of the review that got me, and not because it was already highlighted: “Hiram Green Voyage 2019 is nectarously seductive – so tropical, humid, languorous that it proves my theory: the voyage IS the destination.” Wow. I not only want to smell this, I want to smell like this! I don’t have a favorite yet, but this sounds special. I live in NY. Happy Thanksgiving.

  • Lotus? Amber and vanilla? Such an interesting combination! You had me at “Spicy with a kiss of powder” :). I`m in EU, Romania.

  • Ida Meister’s description really should be the only description of this Marvelous scent. The all natural opulence of this wonderful scent intrigues my olfactory senses. I live in the USA.

  • To me citrus notes smell like sunlight, too! The lotus note, however, is not something I’m familiar with, so Voyage will remain a mystery until I try it (or find me a lotus).
Lustre is a thing of beauty.
Thank you for the draw. Russia

  • Wow! What a beautiful review! I want to be adorned with lotus flowers. I love Hyde and SlowDive and Dilettante, but haven’t tried all of them yet. I’m in CA.

  • I love Hiram Green, Ida is always so eloquent in pointing out what she loves about a perfume. Living in the EU

  • I loved the descriptions of India and pictures from the beautiful article from Ida. Hiram Green is a true artist with his beautiful scents. I love Arbole Arbole. Thanks for the chance to win. USA

  • This sounds like such a rich and luxurious perfume. The light notes such as lotus must be blending interestingly with vanilla and amber and I would like to experience that. I am from the EU.

  • I love the opulence in this! Lotus is a gorgeous flower, and Voyage 2019 sounds like a perfect blend. Thank you for the draw I’d love to try this, live in the US.

  • I love the way Ida described the perfume especially about the amber and vanilla being like a mist surrounding u like an airborne intoxicant. Sounds amazing. I have not tried any Hiram green fragrances thus do not have a favorite but Voyage sounds like an amazing one to start with. In CT USA. Thanks for the draw. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

  • Any Hiram Green is my current unicorn. I am dying to own one or all. I have not tried this one or even sniffed it in a store. I enjoyed learning of the Bond inspiration. Although I love Slow Dive and Moon Bloom and all the others, I think Hyde is my fave. I’m in USA.

  • Lotus, Amber, and Vanilla oh my. Reading Ida’s review made my eyes grow heavy as I could almost feel the tropical nature of the fragrance. Would love to try this. I loved this review and thank you for it as well as the opportunity to try Voyage 2019. I’m in the USA

  • I love Ida’s precision, ease and factual reviews.
Happy Thanksgiving to all celebrating it.

To be honest, the idea of lotus notes in a perfume is quite intriguing – it’s not something that you see too often. Your writeup definitely reminded me of the opulence of Rajasthani history.

I’ve not had a chance to use this house before.

    Love from Madison, WI, USA!

  • I was most intrigued at the how this all natural scent can be so strong! I love both natural perfumes (particularly for our scent- shaming workplace) and synthetics designed to “shoot from across the room”. It sounds like Hiram Green’s creations may be both of those things!

So far I have only tried Moon Bloom but am saving the rest of my sample for warmer weather.

  • Most appealing are the sweet amber and vanilla notes but what’s really missing is a 5-night stay giveaway at Taj Lake Palace. VA, USA.

  • Ida’s review always fascinates me. This perfume sounds lovely and the bottle is very beautiful, luxurious. Thanks. From EU

  • Ida makes this sound both exotic and wearable, if maybe not for everyday use. I don’t ordinarily like humidity, but she makes it sound glamorous. I don’t know what lotus smells like, but this makes me want to have that experience. I live in the US, in North Carolina.

  • I have never tried Hiram Green Perfume before. Really enjoyed description of the Taj Lake Palace. I am from Finland, EU.

  • I am not entering, but wanted to do another shoutout (like he needs any!) to Hiram. His nose is brilliant and his presence—like a balm…
I own and adore his Slowdive- may it never leave my shelf 🙂

  • I’ll reveal my novice and state that lotus is not a note I have knowingly encountered very much in perfume. However, I recall very much enjoying Olympic Orchids’ Love from the 2014 Peace Love and Perfume Project, and Ida’s description of Voyage 2019 sounds just as excellent! This would be my first fragrance from Hiram Green.
    USA

  • This sounds like the most sumptuous lotus scent I’ve ever heard of. I love travel, and I love when my fragrances take me somewhere exotic. Hiram Green makes amazing fragrances, and I have several on my wish list. My favorite is Moon Bloom.

    I’m in Canada.

  • Ida’s description of the lotus absolute did it for me. I need to try this. Hiram Green is my favorite perfumer, and I was sorry to have missed a full bottle of the first Voyage. Thanks for the drawing! Oregon, USA

  • Margarita K says:

Ida’s description of the lotus flower smell is enticing. I didn’t know that lotus flower has a natural perfume that can be extracted, I always imagined it to be just an imaginary, created note, similar to orchid’s.
I’ve never tried Hiram Green’s creations, this would be a rare opportunity. USA

  • m.r.everything says:

This was a great read on Hiram’s latest Voyage… and boy what a voyage it is going to take people on (by the sounds of it!) I have not had the pleasure of smelling any of Hiram’s Voyage’s, but what I have smelled from him, is simply amazing! I love Hyde and Slowdive is amazing! Ida did justice for Voyage and took us on a journey of her own! I, like many others, would love to get my nose on this journey! Thank you, Ida, for the beautiful write-up! Thank you Michelyn, for putting this all together, and thank you to Hiram for your talents and generosity! I live in Delaware, US. I hope everyone has a great rest of their day!

  • Excellent review by Ida and I hung on to her every word! I love the inspiration for this as Octopussy is a favorite for me. I absolutely love the notes in this this one: lotus flower, amber, and vanilla. My favorite line is: “To be cradled without a care and at the mercy of one’s senses is a luxury all its own, unpressured by time constraints. Marble floors, teak, precious woods, silk-swathed capacious cushions, pillows, canopied beds! Cuisines to suit every whim in a locale referred to as the Venice of the East – complete with the leisure to avail yourself of every possible pleasure… This is Hiram’s gift to us, a generous one indeed.” Thanks for the giveaway and I live in the US!

  • I would love a review that cut to the point. We all love descriptive but damn… you’re trying to frame a movie scene for a Bollywood romance… tell us about the actual scents. To evoke a dream state is fine, but also provide us with the mechanics of the perfume.

  • I love Moon Bloom and just got this one after Hiram included a sample in my first purchase. It is a great soft pillowy amber. I love most of his perfumes except from what I remember, Hyde, which was too smoky for me.
