Goutal Paris Tenue De Soiree Review (Mathieu Nardin) + Scent Journey Through Time Draw

Goutal Paris Tenue De Soiree review

Goutal Paris Tenue De Soiree by Olya Bar©

With Goutal Paris Tenue De Soiree Mathieu Nardin  (in collaboration with Camille Goutal) composed one of the best fruity chypres I have ever encountered. Both glamorous and comforting, it tells a story of familiar warmth and timeless elegance.  As a little girl, I was obsessed with my grandmother’s vanity table. It mesmerized me with all the beautiful bottles and treasures I imagined hidden inside the jewelry boxes.

Best glamourous perfumes

I used to love the scent of soft powder puffs and fancy jars filled with precious creams and ointments and would inhale the sweet, waxy aroma of it all while imagining getting ready for a night of glam. Eventually, I gotten my little hands on her lipsticks, and would tab it on my lips, feeling all grown up. Tenue De Soiree is my sensory journey back in time. Now that I’m all grown up, wear beautiful lipsticks, and spritz chic perfumes I fully indulge in the luxury of it all. I find myself reminiscing about how some of our memories shape our taste preferences in many ways and how lucky we are to possess a secret fragrant key, able to unlock the most precious moments hidden in the depths of our hearts.

There is a prominent gourmand structure carefully woven through this chypre. It opens up with bright and juicy blackcurrant and a zesty squeeze of bergamot—certainly a delicious-sounding smell. A berry tart you would enjoy in a neighborhood bakery, slowly sipping on a latte. The heart flickers between shimmer and shade, allowing a glimpse of its lead player, soft velvety iris, casually mingling with roses and jasmine.

There is a particular restraint brought out by the iris, creating a distance between the wearer and the people around. The base is wrapped with melted caramel and suede-like leather with hints of white musk. It shows its tender side as if someone forgot the suede glove in a bag with scented lipstick. The soft buttery leather soaks up its delicate waxy aroma with the fine dustiness of the iris. Through perfumes  we time travel and live through any decade or memory. Enjoy them thoroughly, whether clad in an evening shirt or a fancy dressing gown.

Tonight I find myself in front of the vanity table, adding the finishing touches, slipping on a Bakelite necklace and throwing a coat over my shoulders, I slowly put on a pair of suede gloves. Finally, I spritz Goutal Paris Tenue De Soiree lavishly on my pulse points and slip into the night with confidence. Suddenly it promises to be an interesting one.

Notes: Blackcurrant, bergamot, iris, rose, jasmine, caramel, patchouli, leather, white musk.

A gourmand chypre sounds divine! I loved the memories that Olga shared about getting dressed up and playing with makeup and perfumes at her grandmother’s vanity. I’ve not tried Goutal Paris, but am eager to do so!
    In Louisiana, USA

I love a well constructed chypre, and Olya brings back the enthusiasm for the brand which is been rather hard to find and test, glad to see that there’s a website for the USA, fortunately I have tested a couple of them, and certainly I was blown away by the artistry and lyricism, it’s totally paris in a bottle. !

  • What beautiful photos! I enjoys the childhood memories and I experienced something very similar with my grandmother. She was of the era where they wore dresses and gloves. We loved to play dress up with her beautiful things. I remember pairs upon pairs of white lace gloves, gloves with pearls and gloves with buttons and scalloped detailing. She also had so many beautiful heels to complete the ensemble. I love mementoes like this and thank you for taking me back to my own precious memories!

  • With the description of tart fruity sweetness of the opening to the buttery soft dry down, Tenue de Soiree is right up my alley! I have never tried Goutal Paris fragrances before but I love seeing their bottles and I am familiar with the brand. In the USA.

“Through perfume we time travel.” Well said, Olya. Brava!

  • Bakelite has its own distinct smell and I can easily imagine it + this fragrance thrown over one’s shoulders like your coat! What a great review, Olya! Bravo <3 I love Annick Goutal's fragrances, but the ones I own are the sadly the ones that have been discontinued! I've only smelled the newer ones, but have not worn them on skin much. Thank you for the opportunity of the draw!

  • I loved Olya’s reminiscences of being a little girl. It really is amazing how scent can transport us back in time! And I can also relate to the feeling of a fragrance being the finishing touch on an outfit you feel like a million bucks in. I have never tried Goutal Paris before, unfortunately. Cheers from NC, USA.

  • Excited for this. I haven’t tried many Goutals because they can be so hard to find, but I’m a big fan of Mathieu Nardin’s work, so I’d love to be able to try this one. Olga’s comment comparing it to a suede glove infused with the aroma of a lipstick has me particularly intrigued.

  • This brought back so many memories of sneaking when my mother wasn’t looking to try on her lipstick which I never could get right… I looked like a clown. I think she wore Patou Joy I was more into the makeup. My favorite thing about this review of Goutal Paris Tenue de Soirée was when Olya said perfume can take us to any alluring decade or memory.
I love chypres amd I don’t think I have smelled one with gourmand notes
My favorite Goutal is Ce Soir ou Jamais which is the best Rose ever
Thank you for such wonderful photos too

  • I, too, enjoyed looking at and admiring my mother’s perfumes, powders and lotions. My great aunt had particularly interesting items. She always wore stop sign red lipstick and a string of pearls. Always. I remember going to her apartment in DC, and her nightstand always had the most amazing items, all contained in cut crystal and sterling silver. In maryland.

  • From Olya’s review, Goutal Paris Tenue De Soiree is a fruity chypre that also seems to have a gourmand base. I am particularly excited by the inclusion of an iris note that is quite noticeable. I have many Goutal fragrances in collection, with Sables being one of my favorites in the line. I am in US.

  • I love chypres, I love blackcurrant, I adore gorgeous bottles. Olga had me with the cherished memory of her grandmother’s vanity and how it shaped her experience as an adult. I have not tried Goutal Paris Fragrances, but Tenue de Soiree sounds absolutely anchanting. NC, USA

  • Olya! Fantastic review! ❤️ I love the beautiful memories you paint for us of old-world glamour (and how we create our own versions of that today). I would love to experience Tenue de Soirée! I’ve always wanted to own a Goutal scent, but have yet to try any. I’ve searched for a really great black currant note, but have yet to find one. Perhaps Tenue de Soirée will be it! The caramel note also sounds lovely. I wonder if there is a touch of oakmoss in the base accord? Very intrigued by this fragrance! Thank you for this wonderful opportunity! USA

I love the imagery of a berry tart with a latte. It makes me feel like I need to experience this fragrance. A lot of notes in here are appealing to me, like bergamot, black currant, caramel, jasmine, patchouli… I haven’t tried any fragrances from Goutal Paris before.

  • I love the gourmand and chypre notes. This brings back memories of when I was a young girl looking at make up and fragrances wanting to play dress up.The pictures are beautiful. Olya’s review has me wanting to explore Goutal Paris Tenure De Soiree. Thank you for this Chance USA

  • DulciusExAsperis says:

I absolutely covet that vampy bottle! The way Olya describes iris and lipstick wrapped in suede makes this fragrance sound perfect for heading into fall. And a berry tart… mmm. I’m in the USA. And I love several Goutal fragrances – I know & love Petite Cherie and Chevrefeuille and I have a small decant of Encens Flamboyant.

  • a blackcurrant scent wrapped in patchouli , what can be more gorgeous than this. Seems like a totally divine scent to me with good silage for special occasions . I have tried her La Violette before, a lovely frag.

  • I have never tried any of the Goutal Paris fragrances before, but mention blackcurrant, iris, and chypre in a review and I’m in. This smells amazing and I love how the author described that feeling of trying to be grown up as a child. It brings back a lot of great memories for me. I live in the US

  • A powdery floral mildly fruity scent . I love sweet scents during the winter and this blends very nicely. A very peaceful and kind of reminds me of Gucci rush but this is more sophisticated. Yes I have tried this fragrance before and loved it ( had a decant of it from a friend ). Would be lovely to own a bottle myself . Thankyou Olya for this beautiful review

  • Delicious! And so tempting. Thank you for the review. This made me smile with memories of my grandmother’s vanity. I would wear this in remembrance of her. In USA

  • Thank you Olya for a great review. I smiled as I read this review because while you shared about being a little girl at your grandmother’s vanity, I pictured my lovely wife and my daughter. My baby girl would do the same thing when she was little (she will be turning 21 this November). The additional reason for my smile is your statement about timelessness. My beloved bride (at an age I dare not state) shares in the same thoughts at her vanity. Again, thank you for the smile 🙂
I have not tried Goutal Paris fragrances but you’ve piqued my interest with this review. USA

  • I had not actually heard of this brand, so it was nice to learn about it from Olya’s review. Goutal Paris Tenue De Soiree seems to be a lovely perfume and I liked how Olya connected it to her childhood memories. Scents create such a powerful connection with memories. The notes are pretty standard and common so I think it is the quality of materials and how they are blended together that makes it such a lovely perfume per Olya. Thanks for the review and draw. From USA.

  • Lovely review Olya! I think all of us have a childhood memory of a mother or mother-figure getting ready for an evening out with the scent of lipsticks and other cosmetics part of the routine. Tenue De Soirée sounds like an elegant gourmand. The chypre and floral notes make it timeless. The fruit noted make it fun. Would love to try this. I have not tried any Goutal Paris scents before. I’m in MD, USA.

  • Anything with buttery leather and iris has my attention. I haven’t worn this Goutal, but Olya’s description makes me want to! I wish that it was easier to find Goutal in the US. It’s been years since I’ve seen a display.

  • A gorgeous gourmand which is not overly sweet and not overly sweet with black currant note is something i dont get to smell often. The scented lipstick reference by Olya was indeed good. To me its not an everyday scent but a lavish scent to be worn on special occasions . Cheers, USA

  • Olya, I love hearing your memories of your fascination of all the lovelies on your grandmother’s vanity. My mother was not a perfume wearer, but she loved makeup! My earliest scented memories were of the perfume rings, pins and other baubles (plus loads of makeup) she collected, as she was an Avon Lady! I treasured all of those trinkets while growing up!
My absolute holy grail neroli is Annick Goutal Neroli. It is stunning and heartbreakingly discontinued. Whah. My second favorite is Nuit de Etoilee edp. It feels like a snowy winter day with its mint and balsam. And that blue bottle is beautiful!
    I’m in the US.

  • sephrenia300 says:

Lovely review Emmanuelle! What I enjoyed most about the review was that description of her treasured childhood memories, clandestinely trying on lipsticks of her glamorous grandmother by her vanity. I love that Tenue de Soiree transports her back in time to those memories, just like my favorite fragrances transport me back to vivid pleasures of the past.

I have tried a number of Annick Goutal fragrances before, including Eau d’Hadrien, Petite Chérie, Ce Soir Ou Jamais, Grand Amour, and my favorite, Rose Absolue. I live in the US.

  • happihappijoijoi says:

Beautiful review, redolent of scent memories. The line, “Through, perfumes we time travel and live through any decade or memory,” really strikes a chord with me. When I am missing my mom, whom I haven’t seen in a while, I would wear her favorite fragrance, and immediately feel closer to her.
I would love to discover, and experience Goutal Paris fragrance, and I am glad that they are now finally available here in the US!

  • It takes me back to the days of my great aunt. Ive never tried this fragrance, but would love to
