Goldfield & Banks Sunset Hour Review (Honorine Blanc) 2022 + Quandong Desert Peach Giveaway

Goldfield & Banks Sunset Hour review

If you could savor that perfect hour when the blazing sun slowly dips into the Indian ocean, liquifying itself into the most delicious cocktail, it would taste and smell like Sunset Hour.

With every Goldfield & Banks fragrance, creative director Dimitri Weber managed to take us on a sensory journey through different parts of Australia, exploring and uncovering the abundance of native Australian ingredients. Sunset Hour explores the novelty of the Quandong, a wild Desert Peach from Australia, as it takes center stage in the composition,  pouring its delicious juice over the rest of the ingredients.

For thousands of years, Quandong has been a traditional staple food of central Australian Aborigines. Although sometimes a little tart, the fleshy fruit has a pleasant taste when ripe, similar to a cross between apricots, peaches, and rhubarb. Quandong is featured in multiple mentions of the Aboriginal mythology as a fruit to increase the season’s harvest.

The first few minutes of Goldfield & Banks Sunset Hour is equivalent to a gulp of tropical vacation cocktail you would quench your thirst with on the sandy beach. The fragrance bursts with juicy mandarins, succulent peaches, and a slightly spicy kick of ginger with jammy raspberries. A luscious affair keeps on playing with an apricot-like sweetness of jasmine in full bloom, making this a true fruity aromatic affair. It has a youthful spirit woven through it as if it was composed with the idea of renal happiness, which we often associate with the tropics.

You can’t possibly feel any melancholy wearing this; like a boost of vitamin C, it will pulsate with vibrancy and uplifting energy. A perfect supplement we all need in the spring as we emerge from months of gray winter and hibernation. A scrumptious experience continues as the base starts to give off an aroma of soft creamy sandalwood, a touch of coconut milk, and benzoin from Laos. I truly enjoy smelling the peach from the beginning through the end as it vines through the whole structure. The pungent peppercorn and ginger tame the whole thing just enough, so its juiciness doesn’t spill over the edge of the glass bottle. The boiling heat starts to slowly lower, and in the last few hours, my skin feels like I spent all day lounging on the beach, soaking up the tropical sun rays and rubbing coconut tanning oil all over. Is there a drop of seriousness in this whole bottle, you may ask? Not at all. This is one flirtatious careless little babe. She lives and breathes in her little world of pleasure, mouthwatering gifts of nature and sunset hour swim, letting the ocean wash away any worries or looks of jealousy her tight golden body may have gathered through the day. She thinks life is too short to spend time caring about what others say about her. She lives in the moment of eternal youth, and she devours every moment of it, as should you.

The bottle is from my own collection and opinions are always my own.

Notes: Mandarin Italy, Desert Peach Australia (Quandong) ,Pear, Raspberry, Jasmin Sambac Absolute, Ginger Nigeria, Pink Pepper Madagascar, Sandalwood Australia, Cashmere Wood, Benzoin Laos

  • This sounds so lovely and exotic. I have never tasted nor actually heard about Quandong before, so this definitely triggers my curiosity. The symphony of fruity notes definitely makes this fragrance sound mouthwateringly delicious and the jasmine and coconut milk note must definitely add some sensuality and depth.

  • I have been dreaming of spring as recent 40 degree days have caused the snow to melt. Usually a fan of darker fragrances, I’m suddenly gravitating to creamy florals and fruity scents. Sunset Hour sounds like the perfect spring and summer fragrance. I can’t wait to try it. ~Indiana, USA

  • I love her description of it as a flirtatious careless little babe 🙂 The notes sound absolutely lovely and I have been craving a new coconut perfume lately. It just sounds so vibrant and soothing. Definitely much needed after this quite brash winter in Indiana. I am most definitely going to try to get my nose on this one by the start of summer. Kind regards from IN, USA.

  • This sounds delish! I’m already hunkering for summer and Olya really makes this sound like tropical paradise in a bottle. I like the use of a fruit native to Australia and building the perfume around it. I have yet to try anything from Goldfield and Banks, but this really sounds right up my street. Marit, UK

  • The amazing details and interesting information interested me in Olya’s review of Goldfield & Banks Sunset Hour, I live in Poland, EU.

  • A peachy delicious scent just in time for Spring! I was particularly captivated by the idea that as the hours go on, this fragrance evolves into a sun-soaked experience, sufficiently golden after a day in the rays. Would love a bottle of this.

  • I’ve never even heard of a Quandong. I think that’s part of Goldfield & Banks’ charm.
They’re highlight native Australian ingredients in each of their fragrances, like they’ve done with Quandong in Sunset Hour. Olya’s review paints a picture that takes me to a warm, care-free place I’d want to spend some quality time, while wearing this fragrance. This would definitely be somewhere much warmer than my home country of Canada.

  • Sunset Hour is the epitome of happiness in a bottle. You can’t help but smile often.
And its longevity was a very welcome surprise!
    Loved your review, Olya!

  • Olya delivers a great job in here describing this peachy fragrance. I feel that this fragrance smells like vacations at the beach and I really need ones. Would love to smell this fragrance, cause peach is one of my favorite fruits and I think I would love it in a fragrance.

  • I would love a peach scent. I have never heard of this particular fruit, but it description sounds pleasant. The whole idea of a tropical trip in a bottle laced with peaches and raspberries makes me want to try it all the more. In maryland.

  • This sounds like a fragrance we all need right now. Something to stop these cold months. I am very intrigued because of Quandong fruit, although I guess it is tough to recognize just the smell of this interesting fruit when it is combined with all those amazing fruity and citrusy notes. I didn’t know about Quandong and I find very interesting that this plant is part of the sandalwood family. I’m from Illinois, US.

  • This review fascinated me because I’d never heard of Quandong! Sunset Hour sounds fantastic, and reminds me of my childhood in Hawaii. I am always looking for a fragrance that triggers those olfactory memories from evenings in the beach with fragrant tropical fruits and flowers, and this one sounds like it may be it!

What interested me about Olga’s review of Sunset Hour was her description of the Quandong component of the fragrance and her description of it being similar to peach and rhubarb. I find that description highly intriguing. I am in Portland, OR.

  • The bottle is lovely and I have never heard of the Quandong. It sounds delicious. I love how this perfume is described as someone who lets the ocean wash away any worries. I could use some advice to be that type of person right now.

  • Sunset Hour sounds like a fruity fun fragrance with a bit of floral, sandalwood and sweetness. Really it sounds like an escape from the cold winter were still having here at the moment. I’m very interested in the Quondang note and the tidbit of information at the end was very cool too that its actually part of the sandalwood family. Thanks for the generous giveaway, from CT USA.

I am following Cafleurebon as well Goldfield and Banks on ig from @goldenish19 Thanks.

THIS is my type of perfume and Olya described it way too good – I swear it’s in my nose right now… Tropical heat, juicy fruits and jasmin all around, laying on the beach while sun caresses my face… Oh, evoking the summer….

  • This sound delightful! Thank you for the review- I have not heard of Gold & Banks or Quandong before and found it very interesting. Writing from the Eu.

This composition sounds perfect for spring and summer. Lice the australian unique touch that every fragrance has. Hope I’ll be the lucky one to win it.

  • This review gives cheer, everything in this fragrance is a song to joy. I really love peach in fragrances, now I wear a perfume with this ingredient and it conveys good mood ……
This perfume is “frivolous” in a good way, it is important in life not to take yourself too seriousl

  • I don’t know that Olya could have painted a more succulent and desirable piece of art as she just did with her words. Wow. I especially like the part where she says “Is there a drop of seriousness in this whole bottle, you may ask? Not at all. This is one flirtatious careless little babe.” This tells me that Sunset Hour is all about that vacation and carefree vibe. To be honest, I was sold at “peach”; although, the Quandong clearly has a different composition than the peaches that we Westerners are used to, so that is intriguing in and of itself. For my tastes, there isn’t one thing to dislike about the note breakdown; it evokes beachy, sunbathing, delicious umbrella drink vibes and makes me yearn for a tropical vacation. Would love the opportunity to finally get my feet wet with Goldfield & Banks in what sounds like an absolute stunner of a release. Thanks, as always, for the opportunity and Cheers from Illinois, USA!

  • ScentedKnits says:

What a perfectly timed release, as I wait out this cold, gray New England winter! Olya’s description of an island day turning to evening has me wanting to spray this with abandon. I live in the US.

  • Jennifer J says:

Sounds delicious. Peach is like Rose. It’s one of those notes that are usually the same no matter what brand or concentration (edt, edp, body spray) you buy. However, I love that it has sandalwood, ginger and benzoin. The peppercorn note is interesting, and I read that it has some staying power which is a great bonus. U.S.A.

  • Thanks, Olya for the review, and thanks to Dimitri for bringing new ideas to the table. Anytime I came across one of the Goldfield & Banks perfumes, I learned something new about Australia.
Thanks for the draw! I am in the USA.

  • Quandong is what interested me! Quandong and sunset. This sounds like an absolutely wonderful scent! And quandong is part of the sandalwood family? Wild! I am in the US.

  • This sounds like a summery dream!! And I am writing a response to the review while we are having a snowstorm here – so it is making me that much more longing to smell this one! The line I liked the most from Oya’s review was “like a boost of vitamin C, it will pulsate with vibrancy and uplifting energy” it really does feel like we are ready to emerge from winter months and are ready for our vitamin D from the sun and vitamin C from juicy fruits.
Thanks again for the draw, greetings from Canada!

I have been reading so much about Goldfield & Banks, I love how they use Australian raw materials, in order to valorise its unique biodiversity. I visited this amazing country during my honeymoon (gosh, already almost 8 years ago…) but – alas – I don’t remember tasting Quandong…therefore I’d love to get hold of Sunset Hour to be able to taste it! I love the notes, and definitely when Olya said “This is one flirtatious careless little babe”…she got me intrigued 100%! Greetings from Italy

  • Ooh I’ve been wanting to pick up a sample of this. Love the vitamin C comparison. Summer-y tanning oil fragrances are always favs of mine and I’m ready to get stocked up for the season. USA

  • I had never heard of quandong before, and I thought it was something Chinese, but then Olya’s description clarified what it is. Sunset Hour seems very cheerful and perfect for upcoming spring here in the USA, though it’s funny it is designed in Australia (I guess one could enjoy a bit of floral citrusy spring even in Australian autumn and winter). Thanks for the review and draw. From USA.

I never heard of Quandong until now but it sounds like a fruit I would love. I love a nice juicy Apricot or Peach and even though I haven’t had Rubarb in a while I remember my mum boiling homegrown rubarb in a large cooking pot for an incredible tasty but sour treat with our meals! Delicious!

Like all of the Goldfield & Banks fragrances, this sounds absolutely amazing. I can’t wait to smell this “flirtatious and careless little babe” haha!

  • This has certainly been making some waves in frag comm! This review makes me want to be far away on a tropical island. I never used to be a fan of peach notes in fragrances but as my nose has matured, I’m finding them very much up my alley. This desert wild peach sounds so fascinating, and with the apricot and jasmine notes, I really need to sample this. Thank you for the chance.

  • The usage of local ingredients is a good idea, and a nice way to promote your business.
You also hire , or work with locals , which is helpful for the community, it makes you less dependable from distributors , and bigger corporations.
“Although sometimes a little tart, the fleshy fruit has a pleasant taste when ripe, similar to a cross between apricots, peaches, and rhubarb.”

It depends on the sort, there are a few , and the taste and the flavor differs . The taste is way more similar to peaches, than to rhubarb actually . Quandong is called wild peach after all. In Australia is quite common, and in culinary is wildly used in the traditional Australian Quandong Pie .
There’s also Blue Quandong, again native to Australia , and know as Blue Fig . It’s way harder to find in US. It’s more tart than the “Wild Peach” , and gives different flavor to all desserts , but way more expensive to work with.
Olya Bar take on Sunset Hour reminded me, like u said the traditional for Australia Quandong Pie,I imagined making , and later on eating a slice with freshly squeezed mandarin juice.
I own two Goldfield and Banks fragrances, Silky Woods i, gooey modern gourmand , similar to Caramel Pecan Cinnamon Rolls, and Pacific Rock Moss .
Appreciate Olya Bar review, and the giveaway campaign.

With all the sustainability Goldfield and Banks i think found the fine line between the people, being environmentally friendly and the profit. Good job.
Sunset Hour is delicate fragrance with Australian sandalwood , Quandong and like Olya said , a true fruity aromatic affair

I was so excited when I first heard about this one from Goldfield and Banks. I love peach perfumes and this sounds heavenly. I love visiting Australia, and I have watched with interest as the country continues to work with resolving their troublesome past, particularly with the native peoples. Olya taught me about the Quandong desert peach and how it was traditionally a food of the natives, so good on G&B for taking this fruit and giving it a starring role in a perfume that sounds like a wonderful olfactory tribute to them. I live in Maryland, USA.

  • WaltherP99 says:

I’m familiar with all Goldfield and Banks fragrances, excluding the new Sunset Hour. If I have to rate my favorite ones:
    1. Silky Woods Caramel , woods and tobacco, smells awesome
    2. Southern Bloom. It is unique , but proper testing is a must. It’s chameleon type of fragrance-changes a lot depending of the weather , humidity …. Also if it’s rainy and hot at the same time i get strong red wine smell from it. Do not blind-buy it , but sample first.I personally love it , but some may not.
    3. Desert Rosewood ,patchouli amber and woods, the fragrance is well dipping into gourmand territory
Sunset Hour feels easy to wear, comfortable with “I’m on vacation, and I don’t want to be bothered” kind of vibe.
With all the sustainability, the Oud , the new ingredients Goldfield and Banks are producing and harvesting themselves , it shows how dedicated they are to secure the future of the company, and potentially even sell some to others in the industry.

  • Michael Prince says:

I loved Olya’s review of Goldfield & Banks Sunset Hour because of how Goldfield & Banks fragrance, creative director Dimitri Weber uses ingredients natural and native to Austrailia and incorporates them into their fragrances. I loved learning about Quandong a fruit that is fleshy and sweet this is a cross between an apricot, peach, and rhubarb. This sounds like a beautiful fruity cocktail featuring a peachlike Quandong with a beautiful creamy sandalwood, coconut milk, and benzoin. It sounds truly delightful. I am from the USA.

  • “like a boost of Vitamin C” – love this quote! I typically choose a fragrance to wear for the day depending on my mood. And if I’m feeling a bit under the weather, I tend to choose ones that have fruit notes to “boost” my mood. This sounds like a wonderful fragrance that will uplift me!
    I live in the USA.

  • redwheelbarrow says:

I feel like I really need to try a Quandong now. How interesting that it is part of the sandalwood family. This sounds like the absolute perfect summer scent for lying on the beach with a fruity drink. It’s exactly the type of fragrance I’m drawn to in the hotter months. Thank you for the draw, from the US.

  • This perfume is having an it girl moment and I want in. Its sounds like a delicious cocktail but also like a sweet and spicy iced tea. This would help lift the pit in all our stomachs right now. Thank you for the opportunity, in Tx.

  • What interests me about Olya’s review of Goldfield and Banks Sunset hour is that its a vibrant energizing vacation in a bottle. Since its hard to travel in today’s world I guess having an amazing vacation scent can suffice. Thanks for the giveaway!o.love. CA,USA.

  • Haha, the ending of the review was pure gold! Who wouldn’t want to be a reckless carefree little minx even if for a week (albeit with money to burn on perfume)? I know I would, and it’s decidedly what I’m currently not. So I always seek out escapist perfumes to make me daydream I’m somewhere far away, maybe at a different time, and certainly possessing a different identity. Isn’t that what perfume (and music) is all about? I find that out of all art forms, perfume gives you this completely free reign to imagine who you want to be and that’s why it’s indispensable to me. Sunset Hour sounds lovely and edgy enough, I suspect that the ginger and pepper move it away from standard shampoo-y fruity/florals into something more intriguing. Will definitely seek it out! Greetings from Greece!

  • I had never heard of Quandong (or Santalum acuminatum) and I found Olya’s description of its use here really interesting. I like the idea of a tropical sunset fragrance that revolves around an ingredient that’s totally new to my palate. We could all use some cheer right now, so that portion of Olya’s review was very welcome.

    I’m in the Midwest, USA.

  • Admirable business strategy
Goldfield and Banks are promoting the business as both local, and environmental friendly – smart, productive and allows local farmers to prosper , instead of buying all from billions of dollars mega-corporations . I always try to buy locally, from trusted sources, especially the food.
Marianne Butler Southern Bloom review around 2 yers ago sparked my interest in Goldfield and Banks, now Olya is doing the same thing.
Sweet fruity tropical fragrance with the local Quandong , Sunset Hour is both relaxing, and mouthwatering good.
Silky Woods is my favorite Goldfield and Banks fragrance
    Thanks for the draw

  • Quandong taste is like a hybrid between peach, and pomegranate. In Australia you can find quandong wine , and gin , I wasn’t able to find website selling such in US.
I do like the fact Dimitri Weber is using a lot of local ingredients , often for the first time, which makes him a pioneer in the fragrance community.
Like most, my first touch with Goldfield & Banks fragrances was with the famous Pacific Rock Moss , their most famous fragrance. It’s fun and happy hot weather fragrance, similar expectations I have for Sunset Hour.
Who doesn’t like the idea sitting on the beach, with Pomegranate Peach Martini in hand?
Inspired by the fragrance, and Olya Bar tropical review, I’ll treat myself with a cocktail
    Cheers everyone

  • I like that this scent is compared to the experience of a relaxing cocktail; and that it has a fruit note new to me; and that it has no drops of seriousness in it. I follow on Instagram as @mronhubbard.

Wonderful review Olya! What interested me about Olya’s review of Goldfield & Banks Sunset Hour is it’s focus on Quandong, which is not only a fruit unique to Australia’s terroir but also a traditional staple food of the indigenous Aborigines. I really appreciate a fragrance, or really any peace of art, that pays homage front and center to the traditions and folklore of indigenous cultures. I also like fragrances that feature fruits that are more tart than sweet, which Quandong sounds like. Juxtaposing it with luscious jasmine is the perfect counterpoint. I live in the US.

THanks for the review Olya! Your review creates a mental image of sitting at the beach, watching the sun go down, after a long and hot day of splashing around and making merry.

I love this brand because they alway highlight a uniquely Asutralian ingredient.
