Gallivant Brooklyn, Tokyo, and Istanbul Review + Three You Should Be Wearing Draw

Best Gallivant perfumes

collage by Elena©

I first encountered Gallivant, an independent perfume brand from London, founded by Nick Steward, (the former Creative Director of L’Artisan Parfumeur) while I was gallivanting around Pitti Fragrance 2018 in Florence. The brand had just launched in 2017, and London, one of the first fragrances in the brand’s portfolio, was already finalist of the Art & Olfaction Awards 2018.

Nick Steward Creative Director for Gallivant

Nick Steward of Gallivant

Actually, I first met Nick at a spontaneously organized dinner gathering perfumers and perfume lovers from all over the world, where we talked about everything else – except his own fragrances. The conversation flow was smooth, from one speaker to next, from one perfume-related topic to another, honestly and simply, leaving us all inspired and happy at the end of that beautiful day. A fulfilling chance encounter, inspiring sharing, and listening, what a happy memory! People of perfumes matter.

A couple of months later, when I sampled the Gallivant Perfumes collection, it struck me immediately that the values Nick himself embodies are indeed reflected in his perfume collection: subtle packaging, the deceptive simplicity of fragrances, and very refined expression.  You’ll immediately notice that these are high quality, non-pretentious fragrances, elegant and playful at the same time: they simply make me smile and feel good, and I’ve been following all the later releases in years that followed – a total of 8 #slowperfume creations because Nick takes his time in the development of new fragrances. There’s no rush in translating the experiences into fragrances here, the brand is growing at a steady buy not overwhelming pace; Nick is carefully choosing the perfumers, and working with a renowned lab – Art et Parfum located in Cabris, France (founded by Edmond Roudnitska), and finishing small batches of perfume by hand in England.

I’ve been Gallivanting ever since, and from the eight perfumes that are currently in the collection, there are at least three you should be wearing this summer or all year round. Here are three olfactory impressions of cities that are not meant to be postcards, but rather interesting hidden corners of a city, sometimes brief and unexpected moments in time captured and translated into perfume. And even if you’ve never visited any of those cities yet or if you’re living right there, I’m sure you’ll enjoy these fragrances just as they are, anywhere you go, and create your own memories.

GALLIVANT BROOKLYN review

Brooklyn@ Gallivant Perfumes

Brooklyn / Giorgia Navarra  2017: Brooklyn is a bright, fizzy, sparky, highly energizing wake-up call. One of my favorites, because all that initial brightness and sharpness reminds me of shades suddenly pulled up early in the morning, to let the sunshine in! It soon becomes more powdery – in a good, relaxed way. I love it also because it shifts shapes in very smooth and liquid-feeling transitions. The heart of Brooklyn feels like the comfort of familiar places you pass by every day, perhaps early in the morning on your way to work. With almost metallic tinges of fresh air, the scent of your own skin warming up on a sunny morning, it’s also very subtle and smooth at the same time. Further down the road, the atmosphere changes again: very exquisite layers of orris and magnolia float above the warm, amber base and everything feels finely balanced: contrasts of citruses vs creaminess subdue into a relaxed creaminess that feels so good. I would say it’s an easy-going, interesting, and fun summer-appropriate fragrance. And that dry-down! It’s bound to make you smile. Notes: bergamot, squeezed lemon and orange juice, incense, cardamom, fresh air and ozonic notes, magnolia, orris root, transparent flowers, musks, white woods, benzoin, amber.

Gallivant Istanbul review

 Istanbul, Gallivant Perfumes

Istanbul /Karine Chevallier 2017: Istanbul was the first fragrance in Gallivant’s collection that I was drawn to, maybe simply because of my own intense memories of the city, and/or my curiosity to see to which corner of the city will Gallivant take me to. And Istanbul is full of contrasts, with lovely small hidden spots, historical beauties and tourist-crowded streets and squares, clashes of different styles, and the ongoing, boiling fusion of old and new, traditional and modern. If you were expecting an Istanbul spice-bazaar scent, this is not it. What it is – is ambery comforting, easy-going comfortable, and it feels like hugging a close friend you haven’t seen for a long time.  Its opening is fresh and mildly spicy. After the spices settle down, it becomes slightly powdery, but there’s an undercurrent of creaminess flowing deep beneath. It smells to me at some point like quiet moments I had here, sitting in a street cafe and enjoying freshly brewed coffee with cardamom, marzipan sweets on the side, with the scent of unidentifiable flowers gently rolling in with an early evening breeze that’s coming from Bosphorus. The dry-down features very delicious vanilla and tonka, never too sweet, never too loud – it’s just a seamless, well-rounded blend of goodies that are just slightly gourmand. Wear it in summer evenings, or rainy summer days when you need a hug of comfort or that sweet all-is-well relaxed feeling at the end of the day. Notes: bergamot, cardamom, red thyme, lavender absolute, Egyptian geranium essence, patchouli heart, sweet myrrh (opoponax) essence, sandalwood, vanilla, tonka bean, amber, musks.

GALLIVANT TOKYO review

Tokyo, Gallivant Perfumes

Tokyo / Nicolas Bonneville, 2018:  Peace and quiet of body and mind. Tranquility. That’s my first association whenever I spray Tokyo on: I find it very relaxing and mind-tingling at the same time, because of its duality. At moments it feels so utterly natural, and yet it there’s a feeling of complexity and sophistication beneath that seeming simplicity at the surface. Misty, wasabi-peppery yuzu that tingles your nose at the beginning, with streaks of soft spices is quite fascinating. In time, Tokyo on my skin becomes more and more ephemeral, misty with soft woods and a dry and gentle incense that eases your mind. It’s an atmospheric fragrance and a very different fragrant image of Tokyo than neon-lights or imaginary cherry-tree blossoms: it keeps steering you away from the pulse of hectic-but-clinically-clean city streets and leads you in a direction of a dreamy suburbia, tradition-infused calmness and refinement. I love how calm Tokyo makes me feel. Strong, but calm and elegant, focused. Wear it anytime you need a touch of refined sophistication, it’s wearable all year round, and with this kind of summer we are having right now – it fits perfectly.

Gallivant Tokyo is a Woman’s Health Beauty Awards 2019 Winner – Best Newcomer.

Notes: yuzu, bergamot, black pepper, cardamom, wasabi, hinoki, cedarwood, orris root, nutmeg, rose, incense, amber, sandalwood, patchouli, and vetiver.

All Gallivant fragrances are available as 30ml EDP travel size bottles, 10 ml roll-on perfume oil (Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Istanbul, and London), 2 ml samples, or you can sample the entire collection with the Nomad Sample Set.

Gallivant continues its travels: with Nick’s permission, I have a little secret to share with you! A new fragrance launch is planned soon, and the 9th fragrance in the collection will feature a not so well-know city, and one of the key players is…orris!

  • I would love Brooklyn, I think. Though they all sound lovely. I’m in the UK. A not so well known city with orris… I think of Italy so maybe Verona?

  • phoenixad says:

All three releases were accurately reviewed. The one it seemed more interesting to me is the bright and fizzy Brooklyn. I hope the next release be based on my city, Athens.Since i would like to get to know the brand i would choose the three 10mls.

    Im in Athens, Greece

  • I’ve been wanting to try Gallivant. Haven’t got the chance to yet. These 3 sound like great fragrances. Deciding between Brooklyn and Istanbul. I like the brightness of Brooklyn and the relaxed and comfort of Istanbul. This will be tough. Thanks for the giveaway, Ca

  • That was one unforgettable dinner! I enjoyed the Gallivant line, very easy to wear fragrances, unpretentious and pleasant. I love Istanbul the most. And as for the 9th fragrance, Florence would be such an obvious answer, but i think it’s a town in Hungary or Morocco for the orris roots powder relation. I’d love it if it would be Casablanca. Thank you for this article, Elena.

  • I have Tokyo and would love Istanbul. Since the Iris is fleur de lis what about Paris. I live in France so I am biased!

  • Elena – thank you for the terrific reviews and article. Nick is a fantastic guy and his perfumes are magnificent. They were the first discovery set that I bought back in 2017 from Luckyscent.

All three sound amazing, the descriptions you wrote are so vivid. Istanbul was a favorite from first sniff, but I’ve not smelled Tokyo and that one is signing out to me.

Iris are native to the Mediterranean ring and also Central Asia, but the Iris is the Fleur-de-Lis of French fame. I’m going to say one of these three: Marseille, Algiers or Yerevan.

I’m in the USA and would like Tokyo, should I win.

  • My wild guess for the next city would be Firenze (not so well known aspect that Elena alluded to, though it is better known as Florence). Guessed this because Tuscany is known for its orris flowers. Like the unhurried but elegant and masterful style of perfumer Nick Steward. Having been to Tokyo recently, would love to get hands on Tokyo, but they all sound elegant and wonderful. Yes, if I am so lucky as to win this draw, would love to get two 10 ml bottles of Tokyo and Istanbul perfume oils. Thanks for the review and generous draw. Writing from the USA.

  • After reading the Istanbul review I am now dying to wear it. I have never been to Istanbul but that image of sitting in a street cafe and enjoying freshly brewed coffee and marzipan sweets is powerful! The reviews of Tokyo and Brooklyn are also lovely as well. I live in the US. Thanks for the article, I would love to win Istanbul!

  • Trinity33 says:

I love the concept of Gallivant perfumes. In pre-Covid days when I traveled for fun I would get a BnB in a vibrant neighborhood of the destination city and try to live like a local for the duration. You get a much better feel for the area avoiding the highly trafficked tourist areas. I’m torn between Brooklyn and Instanbul. They both sound so lovely. Commenting from MD. USA.

  • Well I like the idea Istanbul is like hugging an old friend. Who couldn’t use a friend in these times? I would love a chance to win Istanbul. I live in Iowa, USA. Maybe the next city is somewhere in Scandanavia. My guess is Oslo! Cheers and good luck to everyone and thank you Nick for the Giveaway!

  • All three sound amazing but i would love to try Istanbul, i’ve heard a lot of nice things about this fragrance. As for a new city in the line, i really hope it will be Buenos Aires. Thanks for the chance, i’m in the EU.

  • Shamrock1313 says:

Haven’t tried the house but they sound really good. I would like to try Brooklyn.
Next city is a tough one, trying to think of a part of the globe he hasn’t referenced yet – I’m going with Florence.
    Thanks for the giveaway.

  • Elena’s review of Brooklyn appeals to me. I could use some sunshine in my life and I adore orris and magnolia. I am in the US.

  • I am most intrigued by Gallivant Tokyo as it is a calming fragrance. Notes like wasabi seem appropriate since it is inspired by Tokyo. My choice is Gallivant Tokyo. USA

  • All of the Gallivant fragrances sound uniquely wonderful. I’m most interested in 30ml Istanbul, with its red thyme, lavender, geranium, patchouli and myrrh. I’m thinking Nick will take us to Kiev Ukraine. Mich USA

  • I’ve only had a chance to try this line once briefly, so this lovely review makes me want to dive in again. I’ve enjoyed all three descriptions but Istanbul appeals to me the most, so I’d choose a bottle of that. It would be nice to see Rome as the next city in the collection. I am in the USA.

  • I would love to wear Istanbul! Hugging a close friend you haven’t seen for a long time is what I would like to do right now!
    Florida, USA

  • d3m0lici0n says:

All of them look awesome but the one that grabbed my attention the most was Tokyo. Hinoki, Yuzu, black pepper and incense those notes look like a winning combination to me. Telling you that makes you feel calm but strong, yes please.
I live in the US and yes I’d like to win Tokyo
    Thanks

  • I enjoyed all of the descriptions, but I think Tokyo appeals to me the most. A nice way to find some zen. Chicago? Paris? Moscow?Too many cities to choose from for another inspiration. I live in the USA.

  • I would love Istanbul from these 3. After reading this article and researching more about other fragrances Los Angeles is also on my radar to try as I’m from Los Angeles and love the way they have described the inspiration on their website. Next perhaps would be from some Polynesian island?

  • Bryant Worley says:

I really appreciated Elena’s review of these 3 fragrances – nice, thorough and conversational.

I’m really drawn to Tokyo, and would like 30ml of that.

I think Nick is taking us to Bologna (Italy) next. I live in Waldorf, MD, USA.

Wear it in summer evenings, or rainy summer days when you need a hug of comfort or that sweet all-is-well relaxed feeling at the end of the day. A beautiful description by Elena Intrigued by the notes of Istanbul and I think Nick is taking us to Florence. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • wear it in summer evenings, or rainy summer days when you need a hug of comfort or that sweet all-is-well relaxed feeling at the end of the day. Notes: bergamot, cardamom, red thyme, lavender absolute, Egyptian geranium essence, patchouli heart, sweet myrrh (opoponax) essence, sandalwood, vanilla, tonka bean, amber, musks. I am intrigued by the notes of Istanbul the most and I think thd next City will be Florence. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

  • Thank you for the amazing review, Elena! I haven’t had the pleasure of trying any Gallivant offerings, but they all sound amazing! If I were to win, I would choose to wear Brooklyn. I love citrus notes. I’m located in the USA, and my guess for his next fragrance would be Marocco.

  • Laurentiu says:

My favourite of the three has to be Istanbul. I like the notes in that one.
As for the next city, I am thinking about a city in Italy. I would go with Florence.
    Thanks, EU.

  • I loved elenas review because it painted a vivid picture of the scents you could only hope to hear when you think of them.

I’d love to win Tokyo because it’s one of my dream places to go and I adore how she mentioned it made her feel calm but strong.
That’s something that started me in my fragrance Journey.

    I’m from Ireland, EU

  • This was a really great review! I actually have Gallivant Los Angeles and the Nomad Discovery Set and all of the fragrances are great and unique. I also saw an interview with Nick and he did mention the upcoming orris based fragrance which I’m really looking forward to! I’ve also had some email correspondence with and assistance from Nick who is from my experience a genuine and remarkable person. I have no idea what city Nick will take us to with the orris based fragrance, a wild guess perhaps Moscow or Florence. I honestly feel very similarly to Elena about each of these three fragrances. Brooklyn, Istanbul and Tokyo are all wonderful in fact I’ve been having a hard time choosing which to get next. I think I like Istanbul a bit more for cooler weather, so Brooklyn is probably the one. So, if i was to win this draw i would choose Brooklyn with its exquisite transitions. Although not one of the three mentioned here, I also thought Tel Aviv was quite nice for summer it feels very beachy to me. I highly suggest getting the Nomad Discovery Set to anyone who hasn’t tried these gems. Myself and everyone I know who has done so has been thrilled that they did. Thanks so much for the generous draw, from CT USA.

  • This is a perfume brand and line that I’ve been dreaming of testing for a long time. Unfortunately, it is not available where I live. I particularly enjoyed Elena’s review because of the parallel she makes between the perfume and the city’s atmosphere… Istanbul is especially enticing, but I would be curious about Tokyo as well… In fact, all perfumes are intriguing, so I don’t know which will be the next destination… maybe an island, maybe a city in Australia, maybe one in Eastern Europe… who knows? Orris makes me think of Firenze, too, but it is too well-known. Anyway, keeping the mystery is fun.
I live in the EU and if I win, I would prefer the 2x 10 ml perfume oils.
    Thank you!

  • Thank you for this great article and opportunity to try a brand that I’m very intrigued by!

My favorite city in the entire world is Tokyo so I’d be delighted to have the perfume. I have so many memories there and it means a lot to me.

    I live in the Netherlands.

My guess for the next city… maybe Cartagena?

  • JoeFrank9 says:

I actually know London and thats the only one from the house that I know, and I just love the creativity of using a fresh cucumber note in it. Out of the three described masterfully by Elena, I’d love to wear Istambul because of the use of more complex notes like opoponax and cardamom and the almost-gourmand feel. The next fragrace I think it could be Rome of somewhere in Italy, I think orris goes well over there. Regards, from Texas, USA.

  • NiceVULady says:

The notes in Brooklyn seem to really enchant me. I’m drawn to them and to the marvelous description in the review. I absolutely would love to wear it. Istanbul also sounds great. I’m thinking that the next city will be Florence. Thanks for an excellent review and a most generous draw. I’m in the USA

  • valentina says:

I would certainly go with Istanbul! Especially after this review! (Thanks, Elena!) So vibrant and spicy! Anyhow, I am a fan of slow perfumery as a form of protest against this crazy jungle we are living in these days.
I am so excited for the next lunch, I will follow Gallivant on instagram!
    I live in the EU.

  • I would love Istanbul, but this is a hard choice! All three sound so comforting and warm. I’m so excited to see they offer a discovery set to the US! I’m gonna grab one now, while they’re available. I’ve been meaning to sample this brand and this is the perfect way to do it. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • I would love Istanbul, but this is a hard choice! All three sound so comforting and warm. I’m so excited to see they offer a discovery set to the US! Forgot to add, I’m in the USA

  • Hi I was thrilled to read the reviews as so want to try Gallivant. I’m most excited for Tokyo as it will remind me of my trips there and I found it peaceful in the parks and wandering around the neighbourhoods. I would love it. I’m excited for orris new fragrance it’s my favourite note. I’m racking my brains for what city and can only come up with St Petersburg. I’m in the U.K. and my fingers are crossed

  • Thank you Elena for the review. Istanbul captured my imagination and I loved your description of it being like hugging a close friend you haven’t seen for a while – especially in these times 🙂 I’d love to win Istanbul and would imagine Nick taking us to Rabat, Morocco next. I’m in USA

  • The Gallivant Perfumes collection with subtle packaging, the deceptive simplicity of fragrances, and a very refined expression, who wouldn’t want to try that. i have been wanting to sample Galivant for quite some time, but from these my curiosity goes out to Istanbul the most. Living in the EU

  • ISTANBUL attracts me a lot, I already have a spice-rich scent (Spice Bazar) and I would like to try this, it seems more “silent” and very comfortable. I have nothing of this brand. I hope the next city will be Venice … I’m biased.
    Linda, Europe

  • I would love to wear Istanbul this summer. That was the first city outside Europe, that I traveled to and its duality Europe meets the Orient is so unique! The city, where I found a vintage bottle of Givenchy Organza Indecence which my wife loves!
Next city that Nick could take us to should be the beautiful Rome

  • Tokyo is the one that intrigues me the most, but all three sound amazing. Orris and a not so well known city could be Verona. I’m in EU.

  • Excellent review of all 3! Istanbul was my very first bottle from Gallivant, it’s such a beauty.
Thank you for the generous giveaway, if I won I would choose Tokyo. It’s very calming.
    I live in the USA.

  • Christos GX says:

Amazing review, all of the fragrances sound great, but tokyo is the one that i would love to wear.Love from Greece. The unkown city i think it would be somewhere in italy(for example florence or as another person mentioned verona whch i love),France or a city in Malta

  • I would love to try Tokyo! I’ve been to Japan several times and the culture there has inspired me greatly. I’m fascinated by their interpretation of Tokyo as a scent, and I’d like to see if it brings up my memories of Japan in the olfactory form!

I live in the UK 🙂

  • TE Withrow says:

I enjoyed the description of all the fragrances, but think Toykio would vibe best with me! I live in Illinois US.

  • abbie road says:

This was a hard decision – all sound magical! I love knowing how the fragrances made Elena feel – definitely an indicator on how I may react to the fragrances. I would choose Brooklyn. I could use a fragrance that makes me smile. Thank you – USA

  • I’ve had Tokyo on my wishlist since it was first launched! I love the notes so much!!
I think the next one should be Philadelphia.
    I live in the USA.

  • wallygator88 says:

Thank you for the review, Elena. I’m always fascinated by scents that are inspired by places. It’s cool to see incense featured in both Brooklyn and Tokyo, yet they have diametrically opposite vibes.

I would love to win a bottle of Tokyo.

    Regards from WI, USA

  • herman2625 says:

I always love city collection, coz it contain the vibe of a place!

    I live in Portland USA!

  • badjobkaren says:

What about Amsterdam? Orris reminds me of the famous irises painted by Vincent Van Gogh.

Would prefer the oils if Istanbul and Tokyo. I’m in US.

  • All of them sounds great, but Tokyo is the greatest 😀 Next city could be Brugge, it`s a fantastic city who needs more publicity. I live in EU

  • ThatMulattoDude says:

Appreciate Elena’s take on these scents. I’d like to try Istanbul because it seems like a departure from most of the fragrances I have in my collection. My guess at the next city Gallivant will take us to is Cape Town, just a hunch. Thanks for your generosity and opportunity for the giveaway! -Virginia, USA

  • So beautiful descriptions of 3 great perfumes. But more I enjoyed review about Tokyo: yuzu and pepper, ephemeral, misty with soft woods with dry and gentle incense- WOW! Sounds good!
    US

  • Great article highlighting 3 amazing fragrances. I have tried Brooklyn and absolutely love the Orange and Lemon scent. I would love to try Istanbul next to prepare for the colder months and enjoy the hefty spices and the cuddly vanilla.

    I live in the UK.

My choice would be the 30ml of Istanbul.

  • Denzino86 says:

    Hello perfume enthusiasts.
Thank you very much for this opportunity.
I would love to win the Istanbul by Gallivant, because i love a fragrance that feels like, it is hugging you while wearing it, and amber is one of my favorite notes as Well.
It would be a much appreciated and beautiful Add to my collection.
Thanks to everybody involved, and good luck to all. ☘️

  • I like how Elena refers to the series of Gallivant fragrances as “You’ll immediately notice that these are high quality, non-pretentious fragrances, elegant and playful at the same time: they simply make me smile and feel good, “This is a wonderful recommendation. I would love the set of 2, Istanbul and Tokyo. I would love to wear Tokyo. I live in the USA and I think his next city may be Paris. Thank you

  • Sibyl Haynes says:

Oh these sound so dreamy! I feel most drawn to the Istanbul scent from the descriptions, but of course who knows only the nose knows! I instinctively think I would love the rollerball versions of Istanbul and Tokyo- just in case you don’t have any other takers. I am intrigued by Istanbul because of the amber which is a note I love, especially in my beloved Ambre Precieux! And Tokyo sounds equally beautiful in a meditative way.

  • Sibyl Haynes says:

Sorry I forgot to say I live in Seattle, WA. And Brooklyn sounds wonderful too. If I don’t win, I will buy one of these!

  • I’ve been wanting to try Gallivant for a while as I’ve heard good things about the line. Tokyo is my favorite but they all sound really good. My guess for the next city is Prague. I live in the USA.

  • Tokyo sounds amazing. I like a Japan themed fragrance that isn’t cherry blossoms or temple woods. I think next he is taking us to St. Petersburg. I am located in Montana, USA. Thanks!

  • Don’t have a Gallivant bottle, but the sample set I do , and if you want me to be honest 2/3 of Elena choices I would not put in my summer list, if I had to make one. Brooklyn yes , Tokyo is more springy but it could work with 2-3 sprays , but Istanbul?!? I do respect others opinion, and I don’t mind people having different views, that’s normal, but still I think colder windy summer evenings is your best bet in the summer , with max 2 sprays. Istanbul is a potent scent .
I do believe Istanbul is the best Gallivant fragrance, I would love to wear it in the late autumn, and winter.
    Thanks, in US

  • chrisskins says:

People of perfume do indeed matter and Nick is adorable. (Is that wrong to say?) I like that these share the wearable hug smell and, if lucky, if like to try the 2 10ml perfume oils, Istanbul and Tokyo. I live in NY.

  • Jake Dauod says:

What draws me the most are the city names. I love interpretations of cities because I like to relive my travels through perfume. I have only been to London and Brooklyn of the places featured in the perfumes, but I would love to smell them to see if I am taken back to my journeys of the lovely cities. I personally would love to where Istanbul because I am a sucker for lavender fragrances and the amber-vanilla combo is one of my favorites in perfumery. I live the richer scents as well so the perfume just speaks to me more than the others. I have no idea where the next city will be, but if I had to guess, I would say Italy. Kind regards from Illinois, USA.

  • Camille Sheil says:

They all sound so interesting! I love the notes! I love the description of Istanbul! I love cities that have lovely hideaway spots. That’s what San Francisco was for me growing up!

The one that intrigues me the most, and the one I’m entering the draw for, is Tokyo. I’ve been interested in wasabi notes, and also yuzu and would love to smell them… especially together! Love the drydown as well!

Where will Nick’s next fragrance come from? I’m sure the hint of Iris should mean something as a hint…I really have no idea. Holland is known for their tulips… I’m assuming it’s not in the States. Somewhere in Scotland? Inverness? Highlands? That would be lovely.

Thanks for this opportunity! I live in New Hampshire USA!

  • I think the next city will be Turin from Italy. And after reading the reviews, I would go for Instanbul for I like the orientals more.
    EU. Thank you!

  • Elena’s skillfully written article seems to go hand in hand with the perfumer’s intention in explaining the essence of a city through a fragrance. It was very interesting to see how Brooklyn was described to be fizzy, lively and sparkling, Istanbul was comforting, enveloping and relaxing, while Tokyo was perfectly balanced, contemplative and demure. They all sound very particular and I would be excited to discover as many as possible, so my choice would be the two 10 ml perfume oils. I am in the EU.

My guess is going to be Florence, famous for its symbol, the giglio fiorentino.

    Thanks for the draw!

“sitting in a street cafe and enjoying freshly brewed coffee with cardamom, marzipan sweets on the side, with the scent of unidentifiable flowers gently rolling in with an early evening breeze that’s coming from Bosphorus”

Those lines grabbed me from my snooze morning, and woke me up . Istanbul is such a beautiful city, full of life, stores, places to visit and coffee shops near Bosphorus.
The other two Brooklyn, and Tokyo also sound good, but Istanbul seems to be the best of bunch.
    Exciting giveaway, USA

I would love to know the brand better, that’s why I would prefer to win the 10mls. – Austria, EU

  • patrick_348 says:

I would like to be able to wear Istanbul, which sounds like it would be relaxing and comforting, so it would be my choice should I win. Elena’s article makes me wonder what the other fragrances in the line are like. I like how she describes their subtleties. I am in the US, in North Carolina. For the next one, I am going to suggest Lyon, in France, as a possible choice.

Although I lived in Tokyo for years, it is Istanbul that appeals to me the most. I just love the image of hugging a friend I haven’t seen in a long time. And the cardamom coffee sounds delectable.
I would choose the perfume oils if I were the winner.
    I live in the USA.

  • The reviews are well-written and they highlight the inspirations behind the names of the perfumes. Personally, I would like to win Istanbul, as the idea of the city appeals to me even though I haven’t visited (yet). I think it would be amazing if Chiang Mai, Thailand was explored by Nick. Siam oud, exotic fruits, white/yellow florals, Buddhist incense, lemongrass and Thai basil. There are so many options. Writing from Denmark.

  • Although I never understood meditation, I think I’d like Tokyo, from Elena’s review. Anything with incense – always willing to try 🙂
I really don’t know here he’ll be taking us, but I’m sure it will be wonderful, if iris is involved.
    I’m in EU.

Elena does great justice to Nick’s perfumes in her review, they smell amazing and are affordable as well.
I’m a Dutchman living in London and I really want to try both London and Amsterdam, however these three choices sound great for summer. Istanbul is one of my favourite cities and scent memories, so that would be my first choice to try. Marit, UK

  • Istanbul’s notes are up my alley, so it is a no-brainer. However I would of thought it to be the least summer or all-year fragrance of (3) fragrances reviewed. The wasabi note in Tokyo is calling out to me. Real wasabi has a floral note unlike the hot-mustard-y quality served at low-end sushi restaurants. Great review by Elena.

If should win I choose the (2) 10 ml perfume oils of Istanbul and Tokyo. Here in California.

    “I’ve been Gallivanting ever since”
    🙂
“there are at least three you should be wearing this summer or all year round”
I like bold choices, and bold people. Wearing Istanbul in the summer is a bold move , unless you live in colder environment , or it’s a bad weather day. I wear my fragrances for my own pleasure only, and don’t care about others opinion. Negative comments doesn’t bother me at all. I’m saying all of this because I finished 2 Istanbul bottles, and I also wear it in the summer, but I do admit I received some negative comments how it smells in the heat. Like I said I don’t care , but if you do, be careful with the sprayer , Istanbul is the best performing Gallivant fragrance .
To me up until now at least … top 3 Gallivant fragrances are:
1.Istanbul – by far the best one.
    2.Berlin . On my 2nd bottle.
    3.Brooklyn
Istanbul I’d like to win. Seville would be nice name for the next Gallivant city , maybe some red wine with the iris?
    Thank you USA

Elena great review of Gallivant’s Three You Should Be Wearing Tokyo, Brooklyn, and Istanbul. I would like to win a 30ml of Istanbul. I am into spicy and sweet cool weather fragrances with some depth to them. I think the next city Gallivant will pick is Rio de Janeiro. I am from Ohio, USA.

  • I too have been “Gallivanting” for a few years now, and I like all , but one Gallivant fragrances. All Elena picks I’m familiar with, Brooklyn I own.
Tokyo I much prefer to smell on e men.
    My choice is Istanbul.
The next city Nick will take us will be some coastal city in Croatia. I follow him on Instagram, and I remember how in love he was for the area.
Usually back and forth between USA and Scotland, hopefully really soon I’ll be able to get back to my routine.
For now I’m in USA only

  • I’m curious what Nick did this time. Gallivant fragrances are appealing to me, especially Amsterdam , Tel Aviv and Istanbul . Brooklyn and Tokyo I don’t know.
Amsterdam I already have, and Istanbul I would like to add to my collection.
    Thanks for the draw

  • “The dry-down features very delicious vanilla and tonka, never too sweet, never too loud – it’s just a seamless, well-rounded blend of goodies that are just slightly gourmand”

I really enjoyed the way Elena described Istanbul, not only because she did it well, but because I’m feeling the same way about it… well almost. I love my fragrances really loud , and I happen to find Istanbul loud. It’s not really a beast, but still is loud. Smells like a standard German Stollen Cake. Maybe on Elena skin it develops differently, I don’t know. For sure I want to win it.
My guess for the next in line city is Marseille , city full of history and delicious cuisine.
Appreciate Elena review, and the giveaway campaign.

  • Strong, but calm and elegant, focused. This is exactly how I would like to feel right now. Surely Tokyo goes on my wish list. But Istanbul is interesting as well, so 2 10 ml oils would be perfect. I live in the EU.

  • LightOfJoy says:

Gallivant looks and sounds very appealing! I’m in the United States (Texas), and would love to win a bottle of Brooklyn.

  • I appreciated the way that Elena provided proper context of the association between the Gallivant line as a whole and the identity of the man who created them. I also found it interesting how she painted a picture with her descriptions of the way each scent’s essential characteristics relate to aspects from the cities they were named after. If chosen, I would love to try the two oils. I’m in IL, USA, and will be interested in following the progression of whichever cities Nick pursues next with his art, especially if he features Chicago. Thank you!

  • Jannick85 says:

All the three sounds very interesting, but Brooklyn sounds like the one I would enjoy the most. As for the next city I don’t know
    Greetings from Denmark

  • The brand name reflects the concept so perfectly, and the possibilities are endless. I think that maybe Nick may be taking us to Florence next? Or a city in Greece? I would love a bottle of Istanbul. I have been to that amazing city, and the perfume sounds exactly like what I love. I am in Oregon. Thank you!

  • I love Gallivant perfumes very much- tested once and felt in love- especially Berlin. I enjoyed all this descriptions -thanks Elena. I would like to win Tokyo- I like Japanese culture. USA

  • I would love to try Tokyo and I am intrigued by which city will be next.
    I live in Romania (EU)

  • All three fragrances sound really appealing but I think the one that I would really like to try is Brooklyn because of how refreshing and uplifting it sounds and in these current times we will need something to cheer us up. That must’ve been a great dinner with all those people talking about perfume and her refreshing to hear that Nick didn’t try to promote his own brand but maybe took a little bit of experience from the dinner and put it into his own creations. I think the next city will be Singapore, I live in the UK.

I’ve been wanting to sample Istanbul for a while, and after reading Elena’s review, I feel it’s become a ‘must buy’ for me. ‘Comforting…powdery…creamy…and delicious vanilla.’
I’ll have one, please! VA, USA.

  • IvanVelikov says:

“coffee with cardamom, marzipan sweets on the side, with the scent of unidentifiable flowers gently rolling in with an early evening breeze that’s coming from Bosphorus…..vanilla and tonka, never too sweet, never too loud – it’s just a seamless, well-rounded blend of goodies that are just slightly gourmand.”
Hey Istanbul sounds delicious , and I’ve actually been in Turkey twice, ones having a brunch right next to Dolmabahce Palace.
My guess for the next city is Prague.
    Thank you

  • I loved in this review the references to a city-life that’s usually forgotten: the silent, calm suburbia-atmosphere of old-time calmness, but aware that one is still quite close to the center of modernity.

    Would love to wear Tokyo!

  • I would very like to try Tikyo. And next perfume could be “Cairo”
Thank you for the draw. I live in Europe.
