FZOTIC POOF! (Bruno Fazzolari) 2023 + Floral Jubilation Giveaway

FZOTIC POOF!

FZOTIC POOF! is the long awaited new launch from visual and olfactive artist Bruno Fazzolari

“FZOTIC favors the bold. My fragrances aren’t for everyone, but since you aren’t everyone, they might fit you just right.” ~ Bruno Fazzolari

Artisan perfumer Bruno Fazzolari of FZOTIC commenced his journey as a visual artist – like several other independent perfumers who are multiply-gifted and synaesthetic. In 2003, he began experimenting with fragrance and initially introduced a scent he had created to accompany his exhibit, which was entitled Mirror 5. In 2013, Bruno added bottles for sale through his artist website under the name Bruno Fazzolari; in 2017, he re-branded as FZOTIC, and left his post as art professor to further pursue perfumery.

Bruno has long had a cult following, and ÇaFleureBon has followed him since the beginning: however, there has been a three-year hiatus since his last scent, and our readership changes regularly – so when Bruno offered to send me a sample of his latest fragrance POOF! in late February, I was eager and excited. (My favorite has always been Au Delá Narcisse – an exquisite narcissus-based floral chypre which I recently purchased after many years’ admiration.) The time has come to introduce FZOTIC fragrances to our newer audience – and the perfumer has chosen the theme of floral jubilation as his muse.

One distinguishing characteristic of FZOTIC fragrances is that they never date themselves, and FZOTIC POOF! Is no exception. Everything about it feels contemporary, modern, and fresh. Its introductory crisp apple note reads as a sparkling ketone or aldehyde (they are chemically related): heady, ebullient, and gleeful. The tang of bergamot and sweet orange contribute to this joyful quality, soon to lead us toward the euphorically candied aspect of three charming impertinent blossoms: tuberose, cassie (a member of the acacia family) and magnolia. Whatever indolic nuances the tuberose and cassie possess are soon subsumed, as they take on a more (eventual) bubblegum-like playfulness. Magnolia never falters from her honeyed, generously floral stance – and the additional presence of honey amplifies this facet. Labdanum contributes a leathery animalic underbelly, while honey evokes fur. Cedar grounds POOF!’s composition, while a deft dash of woody vanilla smooths any rough edges.

I have spent a good deal of time contemplating FZOTIC POOF! – and each time, new dimensions are revealed. Whether on a mouillette or skin, this fragrance shapeshifts – but never so much that POOF! changes character. I would venture to say that it’s more of a prismatic effect. There are moments when it seems all sweetness and light, carefree – and others in which it resembles a honeyed erotic growl underscored with a delightful naughtiness. For good measure, my husband sweetly offered to test it – and POOF! read as amplified animalic, quite musky with a semblance of costus on his skin. He was stunned to compare the scent on paper, himself and me – each of them lovely, but vastly different. Our conclusion? POOF! requires the fleshly canvas in order to fully appreciate all its nuances. It’s a welcome addition to Bruno’s extant perfumed pantheon.

Notes: crisp apple, bergamot, sweet orange, tuberose, cassie, magnolia, labdanum, honey, cedar, vanilla

  • I loved the review of this perfume because it has generated enormous enthusiasm and expectation for it. I imagine an explosive and spectacular floral, with fruity notes, especially the description of crunchy apple has surprised me and if magnolia also stands out, which is a preferred note, I imagine something really beautiful. But on the other hand, the description as a polyhedral, complex perfume that requires the observation of its different facets can only be the work of an artist makes me succumb completely to curiosity.

Greetings from Spain. I don’t have any of Bruno’s perfumes because it’s hard to find them here, but I’ve admired him for a long time.

  • I loved reading Ida’s review! Thank you! The love of Bruno’s work was apparent, and I’m excited to hear Poof! is delightfully different on a variety of humans! 🙂 I’m a huge fan, too, and do follow fzotic on Instagram. I have been really impressed with everything I’ve smelled from the house, but Au Dela Narcisse is probably also my favorite (so far). I live in the US (Connecticut).

What an absolutely lovely review from a reviewer I admire of a scent from a house I really admire! I loved the characterization of the scent as prismatic, and that makes me interested to smell–rather than thinking “top, mid, base,” I love scents (like a lot of classics, in fact) that you can smell for hours and pick up different nuances each time you revisit. I also wholeheartedly love the comment and agree that Bruno Fazzolari defies time and space! The classic/contemporary sensibilities of each is so impressive. I love many scents by him…namely the contemporary classic and infinitely wearable Lampblack and the noveau-retro Au Dela (agreed–I admire this scent so much!). I even appreciate the creepy one inspired by the shining, for it’s bold “plastic shower curtain” opening that segues into an animalic, soapy floral. Thanks so much for this generous draw! I’m in the US (Colorado). I am an FZOTIC Insta subscriber too.

I like that Ida mentioned that the fragrance is different on her skin and on her husbands skin. I thought Poof would be more towards women but now I’m intrigued.

I don’t have a favorite Fzotic fragrance, yet.

The explosion of bright, happy florals with musk and honey would be great on my skin but even better on my SO. New Jersey, USA

  • FZOTIC POOF! – what a fun name. I have never tried this brand, but from Ida’s review of FZOTIC POOF! it seems to be very modern, unique perfume with much depth so that it will smell differently on different people, and to different people. Just as a good artwork has multiple interpretations. I am curious to see how it will be for me. I like this quote in the beginning – ““FZOTIC favors the bold. My fragrances aren’t for everyone, but since you aren’t everyone, they might fit you just right.” ~ Bruno Fazzolari

Thanks for the draw. From continental USA.

  • I’ve been meaning to try Fzotic, I had added the Toasted Lilac soap to my cart a few weeks ago and then got flustered trying to figure out what samples to try of the perfume line! Ida’s description of POOF!’s prismatic character is very charming, and it’s pretty cool that she and her husband found it smelled so different on each of them vs. paper. Frankly, I just kinda love the cute name rendered in all caps, haha. I’m in the continental US, thank you for the draw!

  • Regis Monkton says:

I’ve never heard of Fzotic, and I’m interested to see what their fragrances are like. This fragrance seems like it might be a good way for me to begin familiarizing myself with their fragrance catalog. Ida’s review made it seem very interesting to me. I like the idea of the combination of magnolia and cedar, and I like the sound of it being a honeyed fragrance. I live in MD, U.S.A., and I follow Cafleurebon and Fzotic on Instagram (@regismonkton).

I really enjoyed Ida’s review. Thank you for highlighting yet another house and perfumer that I was unfamiliar with, but am now very interested in. I especially enjoyed when Ida described her varying experiences with this prismatic scent. I would love to try it on my skin so that I can see if I get more of the sweet floral or animalic growl. I’m sure it will change with the weather, which is always the mark of great scent and perfumer.

  • Ooff the notes are after my heart!! Magnolia always reigns supreme in my repertoire and cassis and honey are favorites for sure, but then he adds in tubérose, sweet orange, cedar and vanilla too? My goodness. What’s not to love and to be lovely wearing?
I always loved the name Lamp Black as every painter would but I think my favorite that I’ve tried is Au Delà.

Thank you so much to Cafluerebon and Bruno Fazzolari for the giveaway,

I liked Ida’s comment that the fragrance changes shape on the skin while still being an exuberant floral. This seems like the type of scent that will always make me smile when I smell it. Also, the name is great! I have never tried a fragrance by Bruno Fazzolari, but I am excited to try one!

  • The crispness of apple and florals anchored by cedar and vanilla sounds delightful! California USA

  • I have not tried anything from this brand before, but I love the aesthetic of it! The review makes Poof! sound so cheerful and happy – perfect for spring!

  • Really like the idea of a contemporary fragrance with fruity citrusy and floral notes. I’m interested to see how differently the fragrance might be expressed on me in comparison to Ida and her husband. First time hearing about Fzotic, but I’m excited to see how their fragrances might smell. From TX, USA.

  • The last time I checked in on FZOTIC POOF! wasn’t around, so it’s good to see Fazzolari working on new fragrances (Vetiverissimo is my favorite, but I also like Zdravetz, Ummagumma, and Room 237). POOF! is more focused on floral notes than many of his other fragrances that I’ve tried and I’m intrigued by how much it transforms worn on different skin. Thanks for the review, Ida.

I’m in the USA. I follow @fzotic on Instagram. Thanks for the giveaway!

The way that this fragrance is described as having a prismatic effect is so enticing to me. It sounds like this will take you on a gorgeous spring journey, and I’m here for it! I’ve not had the opportunity to try a fragrance from FZOTIC but POOF! sounds like the one I’d like to smell most. Cheers from the USA 🙂

  • I love Bruno Fazzolari’s perfumes and would love to try Poof! Monserrat, Zdravetz, and Lampblack are all special to me. Ida’s review is very thoughtful, as always. Her description of how Poof! shifts on grows on different peoples skin is especially appealing.

I love fragrances that shape shift, that reveal different facets on different days and on different people. I like that the muse for this fragrance is flower jubilation. I love every note in this fragrance. I especially love a bubble gum tuberose. I have been following fzotic on Instagram for a while. I haven’t tried any of Bruno’s fragrances yet.
    I live in MA, USA.

  • The notes of POOF! sound so dreamy and luscious! How fitting for the first fragrance from the line in three years to exude such a feeling of joy. This would be my first Bruno Fazzolari fragrance, though I remember there being quite a lot of buzz around Corpse Reviver when it came out, and I am remiss that I have yet to try it! I follow fzotic on Instagram and can confirm my username via email should I win.
Thanks for the opportunity to sample this new gem in the line!

Thanks for the great review Ida.

I really enjoyed reading about this fragrance, which is an interesting explosion of florals – sort of an ode to the golden age of perfumery. The touch of green apple is quite beautiful.

My favorite from this brand is Lampblack.

    Cheers from WI, USA

Very interesting review Ida! What appeals to you about Ida’s review is how bold contemporary, and modern she describes it as, with the crisp apple note and joyful tang of bergamot leading into a floral “bubblegum-like playfulness”. I can really feel Bruno’s vision as a visual artist coming through in Ida’s lovely description!

My favorite fragrance by Bruno Fazzolari is Au Delà – Narcisse. I live in the US
