Friday Fragrance Wrap Up *six degrees of separation*-Bvlgari, Betsey Jonhson, Pucci, Cavalli and BURN Candles

We don't  cut and  paste press releases. Its just not our style. If we get an official release from a fragrance company, it will always have our own spin.

In todays' Woman's Wear Daily, six scented articles appeared.  Each one connected to me personally… through past jobs,  life experience, memories and scent.

Bvlgari Man: Bvlgari  has its has had its share of flankers.Their latest, launching in August is Bvlgari Man formulated by Alberto Morillas, the scent sounds intriguing; featuring a Firmenich molecule, dubbed Ambrox and an overdose of vetiver oil. I have always had a soft spot for Bvlgari, especially their Bvlgari Eau Parfumée au thé vert  by Jean Claude Ellena, Bvlgari Black and Bvlgari Homme .

In the mid 1990s, I met a journalist from Forbes who wore Bvlgari pour Homme. I fell in love with the way it smelled on him, bought for a boyfriend, and gave it to my ex husband,(a year later). It smelled wonderful on all of them. Its one of those commercial fragrances that never gets the respect of Dior Homme or Terre 'D'Hermes, perhaps because the formula has changed significantly in 5 years. I still have the original.

And the journalist  from Forbes? He was interviewing me for a piece on status jeans, he asked me what "was the next status symbol"; I replied "shoes".

Roger Vivier Eau de Toilette: I don't know if I 'get' the connection between fragrance and high end footwear unless there is something special about the composition or branding.

Roger Vivier, a line of haute footwear that dates back into 1907 and is best known for inventing the stilleto heel is introducing  five new scents, with its gold  flacon stopper  "in step'" with its signature buckle (it doesn't look like a buckle to me)." Each scent highlights one key ingredient- rose, amber, neroli, sandalwood or iris. Why not leather? Ines de la Fressange, who is known for her impeccable taste (her eponymous fashion line was sold at Saks Fifth Avenue over a decade ago, did not fare well, although I snagged a fantastic jacket on sale) collaborated on the perfumes… So I will hold out hope; its pricey at 182.00 USD for 50ml, especially since its not an eau de parfum.

Miss Pucci is due out this August, co-created by Christine Nagel, who I met at a Jo Malone event (for their fall scent English Pear and .Freesia) https://cafleurebon.com//christine-nagels-english-garden-jo-malone-english-pear-and/ The bottle looks exactly like a vintage pucci scarf I wear as a bandana.

This is the actual dress, just not me in it (2003)

Anniversary by Cavalli, is a new fragrance that celebrates forty years as a designer. Its a fruity floral. I do own a Cavalli dress that I wore when I met Usher at a party. And my friend Nannette Wilner loves a discontinued fragrance BY Cavalli, the flacon was sheathed in leopard; Amanda Walker, the natural perfumer queried me just yesterday as to the name of a "cheap pink lollipop shaped Cavalli perfume with a blackstopper". I had no idea, do you?

BURN candles:  I have a collection of candles but seldom light them . But when I do, its always a BURN Candle,  which has amazing throw, three wicks and last for 150 hours can scent a large room . Rare Golden Copal and Heliotrope are as the stuff of wax legends. Robin Coe-Hutshing has sold BURN candles and their fabulous bodywashes to DL&Co., which is carried by www.minnewyork.com. When asked by my fellow blogger  Mais que Perfume the other day what my favorite line of candles was, I replied BURN. And so it goes…

Betsey Johnson Perfume: I hung out on East 60th Street, at her boutique in the 1990s just to soak up all that color. Over the past decade she parlayed her quirky funky, style into an empire, including her first perfume, that she admitted didn't fare well.  So where's the connection?  One of the licenses I signed  when I worked for  Candies, Inc, was  with a small company  that also had the license for Betsey Johnson belts and handbag. A few years later,  my ex boss the 'shoe-na-tic' Steve Madden, bought  the licensee's  company, and  is now the holder of the handbag and belt license for Betsey Johnson. Kevin Bacon are you dizzy yet?

Betsey Johnson launched her first fragrance in 2006, and will be launching a variation of the original with Inter Parfums. "It ain't gonna be au natural, sweet, foodlike–like chocolate or patchouli".

This quote from Betsey Johnson made my day, and I hope it makes yours too.. " There’s something important that should come along with a fragrance. A compliment."

Editor's Note: six closets, four PCs, and three apartments later, all my original clippings and jpegs are gone… it would have been fun to put up the clippings, pics of me in the dress with Usher (still have the dress) and that Pucci scarf must be here somewhere …
