“Aprils have never meant much to me, autumn seems that season of beginning, spring. -Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany’s
The editors and contributors of CaFleureBon live all around the world and even during these strange almost surreal times, we all find comfort in our favorite autumn perfumes, as the days grow shorter and the hot breath of summer is almost gone.
dana with Maher Olfactive Treachery
This year, I feel robbed. 2020 has been insane, alienating, scary, guilt-inducing, freeze-mode-living-but-not-quite, and with only small exceptions to the dread—but Treachery by Shawn Maher of Maher Olfactive is an exception to those exceptions. First postponed on account of a misperceived harshness, it now provides great comfort of a physically-affecting kind. Familiarly hot, naturally smoky, and boozy like a barrel of fermenting plums, Treachery is both sweet but tannic, dense but outdoorsy, salty and nutty, and conjurer of better times when the kids’ school starting thrill was only matched by that of the men dancing around alambics distilling the bounty of autumn. A rich, powdery, hot wind at dusk, just enough to hold you together before another long slumber. Notes: pipe tobacco, vanilla, almond, cocoao, whiskey, saffron, spices, davana and berries —dana sandu / a_nose_knows, Editor

Autumn is not my favorite season, along with winter, so I try to be philosophical about it. As daylight shortens and temperatures fall down bringing back what Milan is famous for, fog and humidity, my heart yearns for the dog days and summertime, when the living is easy. However Autumn reminds me everything that is falling apart goes back to ground where it belongs, and suddenly I start craving earthy smells as the most precious and full of life aromas. Nothing like patchouli embodies every tiny detail of this, from black moist soil to crushed leaves and naked trees, and even insects involved in this gorgeous decay. Histoires de Parfums Noir Patchouli smells like Autumn with its dusty, earthy wood on steroids wrapped in cold spices. Dipped in boozy rose, this dry debauchery bearing smoky, leathery hints speaks to me of forthcoming cold evenings drinking Sirah by the fireplace, waiting for a new spring to come. Notes: Patchouli, coriander, cardamom, flowers, berries, musk, leather, vanilla. Ermano Picco – Editor

As the first yellow leaves have fallen to the ground, nature starts to change its color palette: hello, warm greens, golden yellows, browns, and deep burgundies! If you tend to change your perfume palette come fall, why not add a touch of sparkle and glamour to brighten up your days? Cozy and comfortable in fall is fine and oh! so cuddly, but let’s not forget to shine: Chemical Love from Olibere Parfums/Luca Maffei is a breathtaking combination of contrasts, bitter, metallic, and refined sweet that feels flirty, dangerous, elegant and boozy at the same time. High heels click, jaws drop, ice in glasses filled with Bailey’s melts, and this addictive gourmet opulence floods over any imperfection invisible underneath dimmed lights. Let yourself get energized and then enchanted by sensual swirls of ylang-ylang and highly intoxicating patchouli with a deep and powerful drydown. Notes: Bitter Orange, Davana, Elemi, Cocaine Accord, Ylang Ylang, Orange Blossom, Baileys Cream, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Labdanum, Vanilla, Musk – Elena Cvjetkovic Editor, author of The Plum Girl
“A walk in the woods in autumn” by Sergei Vinogradov©
Parfums Dusita Issara (Pissara Umavijani) is a creative take on fougère that casts aside the genre’s traditional barbershop-like, citrus/lavender opening, featuring instead soft, tea-like herbs and a spectacular representation of the whole pine tree: the invigorating greenness of its tender needles, the moist woodiness of its bark, the mystical aroma of its tears of resin. Senses, spirit and mind open widely to experience a walk through Issara’s landscape: it’s early fall, and the sun beams are bursting through the forest trees. The afternoons remain long, balmy; the honeyesque smell of golden haystacks, along with whiffs of vanillic tobacco air curing in some nearby barn, blend themselves into the fragrance of the pine woods, while the increasingly brisk autumn wind carries an unexpected hint of the faraway sea. Adventurous at heart and peaceful in manner, Parfums Dusita Issara is an olfactory painting of dark greens, yellow ochre, burnt sienna and auburn, diffused by off-white musks, and set ablaze by the warm light of coumarin. Notes: Pine, Sage, Tonka Bean, Tobacco, Bourbon Vetiver, Musk, Oakmoss, Ambergris – Despina Veneti, Senior Editor
Autumn leaves by Michelyn
Xerjoff’s Lira Casamorati 1888 is an autumn coat of many colors. Each note dances a solo performance, like a separate leaf swirling in the air before settling to the earth. Akin to an autumn day, Lira begins bright and clear with notes of bergamot, lavender and red orange. The last blooms of summer –jasmine and rose give way to deeper hues of cinnamon and licorice. Creamy caramel and vanilla comfort me before calling it a night when Lira wraps me in its skin musk embrace that lingers until dawn. –Michelyn Camen, Editor in Chief
