As I am getting older, wearing matte black eyeshadow is aging. Period. My days of believing I can look like a Kardashian are behind me. I love my smoky eyes and as I have written before, a good cream shadow is a perfect base for layering powders.
CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre Velvet Fleur de Pierre 106 solves smoky eye woes. First off, it is not black and not matte. It is the darkest anthracite color the color of freshly paved sidewalks, with a slight sheen. The formulation is the smooth texture gel to cream cushion that glides on the eye without pulling or tugging. VERY long lasting as well.
The coverage is semi-matte (or semi-sheer depending on how you apply it); it can be intensified for evening and more dramatic looks or worn for day. Gone are the sparklies of the CHANEL Illusion d’Ombre shadows of past years. I have worn Fleur de Pierre as a liner, to accentuate the outer corners of my eyes, on the lid as a base for dramatic depth and to smoke out a basic day eye look.
Be sure to close the lid tightly as, it can dry out. CHANEL Fall 2015 Les Automnales is a terrific collection and Fleur de Pierre has been my workhouse. Looks like I will need a new one soon! Verdict: Buy two!!! P.S. Please CHANEL add more colors to the Illusion d'Ombre Velvet lineup soon. 36.00 Chanel.com
