Exaltatum Ruby Wood Review (Eglija Vaitkevice) Review + Rose Enchantment DRAW

Exaltatum Ruby Wood by Eglija Vaitkevice  is a multi-faceted fragrance that makes for a fascinating olfactory companion throughout your day. It will take you among a confetti of rose petals underfoot, past London Cafés with their customers engrossed in their phones or even each other, and the tranquil beauty of green parks and their trees, like a comforting canopy reassuring you that there are still green shoots among the urban jungle. For me, one spray of Exaltatum Ruby Wood elevated my day from the ordinary to an imaginary, even theatrical place of heavy red velvet, dew drenched rose petals and a sense of enchantment. Frankly, this is the scent of melodrama and I can’t get enough of it.

Red Riding Hood

From the blood red prick of blood on Sleeping Beauty’s finger to the velvet scented petals of a rose, the magic snakes out from the bottle like a genie. This is Red Riding Hood, Snow White and every fairy-tale forest you can picture. Maybe it’s the intensity of it: fathoms-deep like tumbling through layers of myriad fragrances, or maybe it’s the sheer, unapologetic opulence of it. Ruby Wood, a name in itself that sounds like a modern-day heroine, bewitched me as soon as we made contact, and it might well do the same to you. Prepare to shed your uniform of buttoned up daily requirement.

What sets Exaltatum Ruby Wood apart from other intense rose fragrances? This is the fragrant equivalent (tromper le nez) of an optical illusion or a trompe l’oeil. You begin by thinking it’s a rose-centric perfume, yet it has such a juicy ripe heart that you could almost think that it’s a fruity fragrance, until, as you delve deeper, it becomes a swirl of mystical incense scenting your every step

Exaltatum Ruby Wood by Eglija Vaitkevice

Ruby Wood is a rose bursting with Bulgarian absolute that could make a weakling swoon. More seasoned rose connoisseurs may merely tremble in its presence. The fruit is so temptingly mouth-watering and juicy that any evil Queen worth her salt would choose it as bait in a heartbeat. Pink pepper adds the bite and sinful sparkle, cassis and tangerine the tartness, whilst raspberries and oud add a forbiddingly tempting centre, like a hidden glimpse of a mythical elixir. You may think the fruity rose in Exaltatum Ruby Wood is your destination, but it’s just one step on a journey through fallen branches baked in the sun, exotic cardamom and a mysterious swirl of myrrh and frankincense that manifests from the ashes of roses. Smoky, mysterious shapes flee away from the corner of your eye as you willingly surrender to the magical charms of this extraordinary scent. Longevity is assured: Ruby Wood won’t leave your side, no matter what kind of adventures  you embark.

Top notes: rose petals, red berries, cassis, tangerine, pink pepper, coriander, cardamom, Heart notes: rose absolute Bulgaria, geranium, jasmine grandiflorum India, raspberry, violet, coffee absolute, patchouli, frankincense, Base notes: myrrh, olibanum, labdanum, oud, sandalwood, musk.

Disclaimer: Many thanks to Eglija Vaitkevice for my tester bottle of Exaltatum Ruby Wood. Opinions are my own.

  • Liked the detailed description of Ruby Wood in this review. Oud, frankincense, labdanum, Bulgarian rose – it seems to be a very rich and happy perfume. Haven’t had a chance to try any of Exaltatum offerings, yet. Thanks for the review and the draw. Writing from the USA.

This just sounds so sensual and beautiful. Also anything that can be related to Judy Garland’s Ruby Shoes and mu favourite lipstick Ruby Woo should not go unnoticed. I really love incensey rose fragrances and Samantha make this one sounds frankly juicy and irresistible. As I’m in the Uk will definitely have to check this house out! Marit

  • phoenixad says:

To be honest this seems more to the feminine side. Although, since i like rose-based fragrances id give this a try.
    Im from Greece

  • I loved the description of the fragrance as a journey. All the best fragrances change and tell a story throughout the day. I’ve never tried Exaltatum, so no favorite. I am located in Montana, USA.

  • Oh, Sam, I’m hooked.
    You’re speaking my language here.
Is it too brazen to ask if I may join the fairytale fray?
Your description of Ruby Wood’s evolution makes my mouth water.
    I live in Massachusetts.

  • ThatMulattoDude says:

Red, mysterious, deep…interesting scent picture Samantha paints with her words about this fragrance. I’m sure the journey’s all the more interesting. Haven’t tried anything from this house. Appreciate the opportunity for the giveaway. -Virginia, USA

  • Crisstyyn says:

Congrats on the review! Never tried it before so i would be more than happy to win it. Thank you!

  • Trinity33 says:

I love the graphics Samantha chose for her review! They’re very evocative of roses and woods and mysterious spices. I’m interested in how the tangerine, violet and coffee absolute influence the composition. All of these notes are in my wheelhouse. Commenting from MD, USA.

  • I loved the mysteries of the story and a journey from an innocents rose into the woods and unknown. Very intrigued and would live to try it

  • BostonScentGuy says:

I loved Samantha’s description of the tricky nature of defining this scent–rosy, fruity, resinous. That mystique goes so well with the ingredients! I haven’t tried any of Exaltatum’s scents. Thank so much for the draw–I’m in the US.

  • Maria Tejeda says:

Samantha’s review was chock full of beautiful imagery I could almost smell the roses highlighted in Ruby Wood. It sounds so inviting and yummy especially the cardamom , myrrh and frankincense that add to the roses dimension. I have yet to try Exaltatum. Thanks for the generosity. I live in CA, U.S.

  • Incense? I’m listening! On my wishlist it goes! I’m a fan of anything rose, and I love all of the other notes listed. I enjoyed reading about the evil queen using it as bait, lol. Mich USA

  • Jonathon C says:

    Hi Everyone!
I loves Samantha’s very descriptive journey of Ruby Wood fragrance about being in the city yet in the distance you are still near by greener. I love rose scents, yet its hard to find something that is green and juicy and smoky with the incense and berries and yet has soo much other floral notes like violet and jasmine. I really appreciate the coffee and the cardamom notes and the musk. It is something that isn’t expect and very exotic. It has all the notes that I was looking for in a signature perfume. I want to explore this Fragrance house more. NYC, US.

  • Marion Low says:

Bulgarian roses, cassis, coriander..berries…yummy enough to eat, but I think I wound put a spray behind my ears, behind my knees, definitely the cleavage. A beautiful review, I can sense the fragrance in my mind as it weaves a spell to my heart. Delilsh

  • Laurentiu says:

I liked the part where she said that a spray of this fragrance elevated her day from ordinary to an imaginary enchanted place.
    EU reader. Thank you!

  • I like that Ruby Wood is not just a rose-centered soliflore, but instead it has a lot going on and by that I mean the ripe juicy fruit heart that morphs into an incense base.

Thanks for the draw and nice review!

  • NiceVULady says:

The combination of rose plus frankincense and myrrh is enough to sell this to me. I’m also interested in the tangerine and cardamon notes as well. Really enjoyed the review and thank you so much for that. Also many thanks for the draw. I’m in the USA

  • What a lovely review! The graphics she used cought my attention immediately, and i loved how she associated the color ruby with different characters. The part “You may think the fruity rose in Exaltatum Ruby Wood is your destination, but it’s just one step on a journey through fallen branches baked in the sun, exotic cardamom and a mysterious swirl of myrrh and frankincense that manifests from the ashes of roses.” reminds me of a poem called Ithaka by C. P. Cavafy. What important is, is not the destination, but the journey itself. And I would be more than happy to take this journey because the notes sounds amazing. Unfortunately, I haven’t tried anything from this house, but I hope this can change with this generous draw. I live in Gernany, EU.

  • My favourite part about Samantha’a review was ” it’s just one step on a journey through fallen branches baked in the sun, exotic cardamom and a mysterious swirl of myrrh and frankincense that manifests from the ashes of roses.”

That was a hook that caugh the me and never let go! It fascinated me so much I had to re read the whole thing.

I’ve not tried anything from the line unfortunately.

  • That sounds like a very lovely and mysterious perfume. Very curious about this perfume house. Really would love to try this one. Greetings from Holland, EU.

Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

  • Didn’t try any of the Exaltatums before. This seems like a great perfume loved to read how you could be tricked into thinking that is a rose scent, or maybe a fruit scent or then at the heart you can smell the incense. Love to try this. Living in the EU

  • This review is very well written and took me on an enchanted journey to different fairy lands 🙂 Ruby Woods sounds very uplifting. Thank you Samantha for bringing it to our attention. I’m in USA

  • Sounds like a beautiful perfume. I don’t have any fragrance from this house. But how Samantha reviewed this scent makes me want to try it out.
    Florida, USA

  • Samantha’s review hooked me from the beginning. This is exactly what I am looking for in a fragrance. And I love the Klimt image. I have never tried an Exaltatum fragrance and am in the US.

  • Wow this sounds like an intense one, maybe best for colder weather a night out. I would love to be that evil queen mentioned in the review. I have never tried any Exaltatum fragrances. USA

  • doveskylark says:

I love that Samantha wrote her review for the urban explorer. I liked the mention of the London cafes and the parks….I live in an urban jungle, and those are all part of it. Pink peppers and raspberries sound intriguing.
I haven’t tried anything from Exaltatum.
    I live in the USA.

  • ElenaChiss says:

I am always sold for a perfume that has a fairytale, enchanted tale or some magical background as an inspiration. Ruby Wood being a take on rose it’s even better.
    Europe

  • I love rose and even better a fairy tale rose. Add me to in to a swoon when rose comes to town. I have not tried anything from Exaltatum yet. I live on the shores of Lake Erie in NY state, USA. Thank you for your awesome description and generous offer.

  • How could one resist such a multifaceted rose fragrance? I enjoyed Samantha’s description of its spicy, smoky, woody accents, and I would very much love to try to this voluptuous creation. Also, I haven’t tried any of the creations from this line, so I’d be quite excited for this to be the first. Beautiful pictures too! I am in the USA.

  • I`ve only tested once, and Roby Wood hit me hard right in the feelings 🙂 Such a beautiful perfume! It was instant love for me and took a spot in my Want list. And yes, it does smell red, as red as your photos and review. And yes, it did make me swoon 🙂 I`m in EU.

  • I quite enjoyed the imagery of the Queen of Hearts and the Ruby Slippers. I have not tried Exaltatum yet! It is a busy note lineup, but one that makes sense! I would enjoy this I think. From Canada.

  • What I liked most about Samantha’s article about Ruby Wood is her description of what the fragrance’s journey when you where it. “Smoky, mysterious shapes flee away from the corner of your eye as you willingly surrender to the magical charms of this extraordinary scent.” I unfortunately have never tried any of Exaltatum offerings. I would love to! USA

  • “I wanna lay you down on a bed of roses, but tonight I sleep on a bed of nails…” – the description of this perfume in Samantha’s words reminded me of this song – a rose which develops unexpectedly, not to the conventional direction but in a haze of myrrh, cardamom and frankincense. Lovely, warm, mysterious rose. I would love to try this as my first experience from this house. I am in the EU.

  • redwheelbarrow says:

This sounds awesome! I’ve never tried this house but I love how you describe the layers from rose to fruit to incense. I prefer my rose fragrances to have a bit going on and this sounds like it really does. I haven’t tried this house yet so off to google I go. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • This sounds like a thick, sweet & juicy fragrance. it gave me a fresh fruity taste in my mouth. Wonderfully written.

I haven’t tried any Exaltatum fragrances as of yet. I live in the UK

  • Ruby Wood sounds incredible! I’m a rose lover and am always on the lookout for a rich, deep and dark rose scent. This sounds like something I need to try…

    Thanks!

    USA

  • Based on the review, this sounds similar to one of my favorites, Portrait of a Lady. Rose, patchouli, incense, berries. I’m looking forward to discovering Exaltatum, hopefully starting with Ruby Wood. Kind regards from Denmark.

  • I’ve been procrastinating on ordering a sample. I’ve heard this one has a fizziness to it not mentioned above, but what also catches my interest is the smoky resins, oud, coffee, and musk. I think that’s what would make it more wearable for a man. I would love to try it out as I don’t normally wear rose.

  • Marty Anderson says:

The description makes me feel like I am in a fairytale for grownups. Yummy and sensual notes leading me down a path of make believe land. Wonderful character description that kept me wanting to read more. Can’t wait in Texas.

  • Hashim Madani says:

I’m hoping the incense, cardamom, and spice notes in general somehow balance Ruby Wood from being an overly feminine experience. Sounds like a lovely rose with a twist experience. VA, USA.

  • “The fruit is so temptingly mouth-watering and juicy that any evil Queen worth her salt would choose it as bait in a heartbeat.”

I’m sorry but who does NOT want to be an evil Queen choosing bait now and then? This sentence hooked me, 100%!

I would love to try this fragrance! In Canada. Thank you for a most intriguing review!

  • Hmmmm, a juicy rose but so much deeper than that! I was already intrigued by the opening picture, but the description of how it evolves and the base notes makes me really want to sample this one. I’ve never tried anything from this house before. I live in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Jake Dauod says:

My favorite part about the review is the description of how the fragrance manipulates on skin and how it acts as an optical illusion. I have never tried an Exaltatum fragrance, but I have heard many great reviews and the brand has been on my niche radar for a while now. Kind regards from Illinois, USA.

  • The review makes you feel like this fragrance could take you on a magical journey through all the facets of its development like it’s some kind of magical potion, which it probably is if it has such great longevity as suggested. I have never tried any fragrances bye Exaltatum but this sounds rich, dark, sensualand seductive. I live in the UK

  • Brygantor says:

I enjoyed this about Samantha’s review: “You may think the fruity rose in Exaltatum Ruby Wood is your destination, but it’s just one step on a journey through fallen branches baked in the sun, exotic cardamom and a mysterious swirl of myrrh and frankincense that manifests from the ashes of roses.” TaIk about anticipation! I have not tried any Exaltatum yet, that’s why I want this. I live in Waldorf, MD, USA.

  • I enjoyed how Samantha conveyed the decadence of this fruity rose. It sounds very appealing. I’ve never tried Exaltatum, but this seems like a good place to start. I live in the USA.

  • Oh I like the image of blood on Sleeping Beauty’s finger and the velvet scented petals of a rose a lot! The fragrant equivalent of an optical illusion makes this sound super interesting as well. I don’t have a favorite Exaltatum perfume as this is the first time I am hearing about the brand. Regards from the US.

  • Amanda32828 says:

Loved Samantha review, the descriptions of the notes along with all the photo/images make you perceive the perfume sort of magical, mystical and seductive.
I still haven’t had the opportunity to try any Exaltatum perfume but I hope I’ll soon. Thank you for the opportunity to enter the drawing. I’m commenting from Orlando, Fl.

I loved the description of the fragrance as a journey. All the best fragrances change and tell a story throughout the day. I’ve never tried Exaltatum, so no favorite. I am located in USA.

  • Samantha said …” one spray of Exaltatum Ruby Wood elevated my day from the ordinary to an imaginary”… a scent of melodrama. Ruby wood sounds enchanting and I love the color.
I haven’t tried Exaltatum and would really love to.
    I live in USA.

  • Camille Sheil says:

I’ve never sampled any fragrances from Exaltatum but wow this sounds like a stunner!

Ruby Wood, if this is the connecting enchantment for all the fairy tales, would have a fierceness to it that wouldn’t seem to be entirely feminine….but it would feel entirely safe either. And ironically comforting too. Because we all find some meaning in fairy tales, no matter how gruesome they may get. And meaning we tend to associate with comfort.

I love the notes in this. From rose to berries, to coffee and oud (among others…) . I feel like I just need to smell it. I like the feeling that it doesn’t turn out exactly the way you’d expect. A fruity non-gourmond. Sounds like my kind of thing! The almost nevers of the world!

Thanks for this opportunity! I live in New Hampshire USA!

  • I like the condensed description of the development: You begin by thinking it’s a rose-centric perfume, yet it has such a juicy ripe heart that you could almost think that it’s a fruity fragrance, until, as you delve deeper, it becomes a swirl of mystical incense scenting your every step.

This fragrance sounds very interesting. I’d love to try it…I love rose, oud mixed fragrances!

  • I’m not familiar with this brand, but I love rose fragrances. And the other notes also sounds wonderful. I would be very glad if I could try it. Thank you for the chance. I live in Europe.

  • roxhas1cat says:

This fragrance has sparked my interest from the opening paragraph. I love a fragrance that really takes a journey and right now I could use a fragrance to elevate my mundane day of work from home and no where to go. The notes sound awesome. Loved the photos/artwork chosen for this article. I am not familiar with this line, but will scoot on over to their website once I’m done with this review. Thanks for the article Samantha. USA.

  • Wow I love the sound of the fruits mixed with the rose. With that seductive, warm base. An amazing sounding fragrance! Unfortunately, have not tried anything from this house.

I’m in Canada and thanks for the draw.

Another phenomenal review by Samantha! I truly enjoy reading your work as it is always a pleasure to read! Ruby Wood sounds like a stunner from Exaltatum. I have read a few other reviews on this one and I have to get my hands on this eventually. Samantha’s words and visuals, I feel, conveyed the scent perfectly (even though I have yet to smell it) and did it nothing but justice. I have only had the pleasure of smelling one Exaltatum and that was Osmanthus Noble, and boy what a winner that is. That one is super close to the top of my “must purchase” list, that it has been in my cart several times and other things just so happened to beat it out. However, that will definitely change one day, as I am in love with it. Ruby Wood sounds like another one I would be in love with as well. How Samantha paints us a picture of the journey it takes us on, coupled with that note list…. my word, it sounds divine! Thank you, Samantha, for another fabulous review, and for giving us your take on Ruby Wood. Thank you Michelyn, for everything you do for us and for putting this all together! A huge thanks to Eglija for this amazing opportunity! it is appreciated more than you know! Sending well wishes from Delaware. Good luck to all and stay safe friends!
