Exaltatum Mimosa Gold Review (Eglija Vaitkevice) + Honeyed Glow Draw

Exaltatum mimosa gold review

We carry our inner child through those hardships and hills, trying to protect it, guarding it on the road. For me, mimosa flower is a symbol of a beautiful, fluffy pompon, innocent and micro-sized Earth” – Eglija Vaitkevice

With so many events put on ice during lockdown, it comes as a pleasant surprise to find a fragrance that conjures the very place we need to visit. Outdoorsy childhoods are often a beacon of halcyon nostalgia and the reason is twofold: firstly, as children we lived in the moment, banking memories both visual and olfactory without even realising it. Secondly, for many children, our happiest times were the days spent free-playing out doors, with the benevolent warmth of the sun giving blessing to our dens and adventures. The world was new and flowery and muddy and full of hiding places.

As adults, it takes a lot to recapture that and, in my experience, it is only scent that has this inimitable and absolute power. Exaltatum Mimosa Gold captivated me at my very first spray. It conjured up rolling down grassy banks of yellow dandelions circa 1977. It gave me back the dusting of yellow pollen on my fingers when I plucked pussy willow from its silver branches and it gave me back those days when pollen dusted my nose from smelling native Welsh daffodils and  yes, eating the yellow centres of daises (not recommended but it didn’t hurt me).

I didn’t have Mimosa growing near me, and perhaps you didn’t either, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be taken down a time tunnel by the powerful scent of pollen and sunshine found in Mimosa Gold.  It has the universal fairy dust of yellow powder that, if you were lucky, anointed your childhood with the best that nature had to offer. You’ll know this scent if you know the scent of sun blazed skin, flowers from both garden and hedgerow and the sense that a hum of bees is drifting lazily to your ear through the heat.

Eglija Vaitkevice of Exaltatum

Eglija Vaitkevice

Eglija Vaitkevice, founder and perfumer at Exaltatum was trained in Grasse and within moments of trying her fragrances, you realise that she knows magic and how to bottle it.  Mimosa Gold has the finest mimosa note I have ever smelled in a perfume. It manages somehow to capture both the honeyed notes of flowers shaped like fluffy pom poms and the earthiness of the warm ground they sprang from.

Mimosa has the biggest presence, like a bright sun at the centre. Alongside the jaunty yellow puffs are rich almond blossoms, giving this a hint of marzipan to my nose, alongside juicy Mirabelle plum. This is a perfect balance between the archly rich and the temptingly plump, beckoning you in deeper to a blossom covered copse of enchantment and memory. Mimosa, Acacia and ylang ylang blended with such finesse, are what gives this fragrance everything a bee could wish for. Its honeyed glow wreathes delicately around you as the sun sets. (longevity is excellent, incidentally). After a joyful day of idyllic nostalgia, warm base notes of sandalwood and cosy tonka beckon you indoors to wrap you in a comforting warmth like loving arms. Even when you wake the next day, little dustings of pollen will throw a teasing glimpse of contentment your way, dancing like dust motes, or maybe very tiny fairies.

Mimosa Gold is both the flower and the light that tinges the edge of the Polaroid. It’s you in a more innocent time, before taxes, bills and schedules. It’s you when nature was your playground and you believed in fairies.  Exaltatum Mimosa took me to a place I never wanted to leave.

Notes: Mirabelle plum, almond flower, magnolia champaca, star anise, petitgrain, acacia farnesiana, mimosa dealbata, ylang ylang, heliotrope, sandalwood, tonka bean, orris, benzoin, patchouli, vetiver

Disclaimer: Many thanks to Eglija Vaitkevice for my bottle of Mimosa Gold and the samples that accompanied it. Opinions are my own.

I only know two fragrances that have mimosa as the main note – Poeme and Une Fleur de Cassie. It would be interesting to smell the interpretation of mimosa according to Eglija.
    Thanks for the draw! EU

    Great review.
I can say that because I grew up in Mexico with Acacia trees, and my best memories are with this special flower, fluffy, powder, earthy green, I would love to try it out.

What a glorious review! I love how Samantha invokes the role of childhood smell memory in the enjoyment of creative and well-made perfume. Dawn Spencer Hurwitz’s recent Highland Idyll gives me a similar feel to what she describes here. This sounds wonderful! I love mimosa, and the idea of a scent that has both the sweet and earthy facets of this bloom. I haven’t tried Exaltatum scents, but want to change that! Thanks so much for this draw. I’m in the US.

  • I loved reading about scent’s ability to powerfully recapture childhood memories. Mimosa used to be my mom’s favorite flower when I was a child, so the memory part truly resonated. I vividly recall it’s sweet and penetrating scent. This fragrance includes many notes I love, such as Mirabelle plum, almond flowers, acacia, ylang ylang, and of course mimosa.

  • You know, i don’t think i have ever tried a perfume with mimosa in it, or even acacia farnesiana. I love how Samantha is so excited about it and how happy it made her, so i too, would like to experience this scent. If its good enough for Samantha, its good enough for me. It has been a hard few months here and i think i deserve some beautiful Mimosa Gold to make me smile.
I’m in the UK. and thanks for the draw.

  • Great review. This house is extremly good and definitely need more attention. I was amazed by Osmanthus Noble, my favourite from the house. So yes, would love to try Mimosa Gold, thanks for the chance, i’m in the EU.

  • Trinity33 says:

Mimosa is such a happy, uplifting scent. I’ve tried mimosa as a featured note in Jo Malone’s Mimosa and Cardamom and I found it very comforting. I’m interested in trying the note with orris and patchouli as is featured in Mimosa Gold. I think it will soar. I’ve never tried anything from Exaltatum before. I’m in MD, USA.

  • chrisskins says:

Beautiful yellow review. I have the same find memories of hills and grass and dandelions. We also had a mimosa tree on the block and all the neighborhood kids (45!) would come for a sniff and pick a blossom when it bloomed. “Mimosa Gold has the finest mimosa note I have ever smelled in a perfume.” That says it all. I have not yet tried an Exaltatum fragrance. I live in NY.

  • Jake Dauod says:

I love how Samantha’s review is very nostalgic and it transports me back to an image of my own childhood. The fragrance sounds wonderful as I grew up around flowers, and it also sounds very artistic. I haven’t tried an Exaltatum fragrance, but I would love to get my nose on one. Kind regards from Illinois, USA.

  • What a wonderful read. Love the floral and fresh aspects of this scent. Would make for a great summer fragrance. I have not tried anything from this house.

    Thanks for the draw!

    I’m in Canada.

  • Hashim Madani says:

Never experienced Mimosa Gold, but I’m fascinated by a fragrance’s ability to exfiltrate an almost inaccessible ‘bank’ of childhood scent memories until you recollect them decades later. It’s a great testament to the quality of this fragrance and the nose behind it. VA, USA.

  • I’m in a never-ending search for the realistic mimosa scent for many years now. I think maybe Mimosa Gold is the one. As Samantha says ” It’s you when nature was your playground and you believed in fairies. Exaltatum Mimosa took me to a place I never wanted to leave.” I’m intrigued..
    Thanks for the giveaway..

  • Samantha’s review conjured up lovely childhood memories of picking dandelions and buttercups. I haven’t tried any Exaltatum perfumes, but mimosa done well is wonderful and I would like to start with this one. I’m live in the US.

  • I loved the association of mimosas and their cute pompon blossoms with carefree childhood. It was a beautiful, reminiscent piece. I also happen to adore all the notes listed in Exaltatum Mimosa. I hope to be included in the draw. I’ve never sampled an Exaltatum fragrance before. From Florida, USA

  • The sentence “Mimosa Gold has the finest mimosa note I have ever smelled in a perfume” alone makes this perfume worth checking out. Sounds very interesting coupled with warm base notes of tonka and sandalwood. First time hearing about Exaltatum fragrances, thanks for the brand introduction. Regards from the USA.

  • Thank you thank you for such inspiring review! I felt myself like the bee enjoying this generous creation:)

  • This sounds really great. The plum along with mimosa, almond blossom and ylang ylang sounds wonderful especially on top of the warm base mentioned of sandalwood, benzoic and tonka bean. I’d love to try this. I have not yet tried any scents from Exaltatum unfortunately. I live in CT USA. Thanks for the generous draw!

  • I really enjoyed Samantha’s review.
I’m not too familiar with mimosa as main note so it was very helpful to learn about the profile of it and how it’s used in this composition.

I’ve not tried anything from the house so far but seen many great reviews.

    I’m from Ireland , EU.

  • I received the sample set during lockdown, and Eglija was oh sooo nice!
Mimosa and Osmanthus stroke me as the best in the line, and I really agree with the review, it’s really a beautiful and faithful rendition of Mimosa.
I live in Italy. Thanks for the draw!

  • I’m really a stranger to mimosa. I don’t think I’ve ever seen or smelt it – either in perfumes or the actual flowers. But this evocative review takes me back to those blissful childhood days, and I really feel like I can imagine it well. Makes me crave summer, for sure Definitely one to add to the wishlist.

  • Lovely review. It reminded me of my childhood spending hours making chains with small daisies.

I agree with Samantha that only scent has that special power. We are always having inside of us a secret yearning, that sacred longing, that powerful wish to return back to innocence. I am happy to read that she found the time machine capable of transporting her her back with this perfume.

I am in the old world, Europe 🙂 Thank you!

  • It was a great review, i really enjoyed reading how this perfume inspired and transported Samantha to her childhood, i love when fragrances do that. • Mimosa Gold is both the flower and the light that tinges the edge of the Polaroid. It’s you in a more innocent time, before taxes, bills and schedules. A beautiful description by Samantha struck a chord because I believe this is a place we all want to go to this perfume takes us there. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

Amazing review. I have a sample of Mimosa Gold thanks to a wonderful persona and I really enjoy it. I find it delicious, so envolving and warm. It transmits a great vitality to me, but serene and reliable. I adore Eglija’s work. Have samples of all line and a Ruby Wood bottle in my collection, and I would love to add Mimosa Gold. I’m in Spain.

  • Samantha’s review was so evocative I can really imagine the smell. I have never tried an Exaltatum fragrance before sadly. I live in the UK

  • That summer sunshine nostalgia is exactly what I’m craving. Those childhood summer days in the 1970s were my favorite too. I have never tried an Exaltatum fragrance. I am in KS, US.

  • I liked the description of “pollen and sunshine” of Mimosa Gold. Thanks for another great article and generous draw! Mich USA

  • I have never tried any of Exaltatum fragrances but after reading Samantha’s review about Mimosa Gold and the beautiful notes and powdery mimosa flowers, I’m in. The great photos of the striking yellow flowers are amazing. USA

  • doveskylark says:

I so want to go back to the time when I spent all day exploring nature’s playground and when I read books about fairies and looked for them on my forest wandering. Mimosas are just so joyous, just like reading Samantha’s review.
I haven’t tried anything from Exaltatum.
    I live in the USA.

  • Mimosa is a wonderful note and reminds me of childhood memories also. This sounds like a fantastic fragrance to get away from it all, especially now. Never tried anything from Exaltatum, I would love too. Brooklyn NY

  • I have tried this perfume, but it sounds amazing. I used to live in the countryside, but for some reason ended up in the middle of a city. I do miss the fields of flowers and the fresh and quiet outdoors.

Thanks for the lovely review. Very in-depth description that helps me read the scent.

  • patrick_348 says:

I liked how Samantha’s review gave a sense that this is a fragrance that suggests flowers not in a laboratory or a florist shop, or even in a carefully manicured garden, but out in nature, in the wild. If it lives up to that image, smelling it will be a fine experience. I haven’t tried any Exaltatum perfumes, but this drawing might be my chance. I am in North Carolina, in the U.S.

  • Jack3Tlife says:

! I love how Samantha invokes the role of childhood smell memory in the enjoyment of creative and well-made perfume. Mimosa also smells amazing. USA

  • I really enjoyed how Elena conveyed the idea of a fragrance that can bring you back to those lazy summer days of youth. She also conjured an idea of what bright yellow could smell like. I have never tried an Exaltatum fragrance before, but am very intrigued by this one. I live in the USA.

  • I didn’t grow up with mimosas but I love the buttery honey floral smell. Even though it sounds like it would trigger my pollen allergies, this perfume sounds so sumptuous and lovely. I live in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway.

  • I loved Samantha’s review, it brought a rush of pleasant feelings and memories. Mimosa represents spring for me, being the mother’s day flower and smelled alot in the first days of March. Its powdery body doesn’t have the same effect that violet and iris “powders” have, quite the opposite. While the two are cold and intimidating, mimosa envelops like a warm cozy dusty hug. I would love to try it in this beautifully praised perfume, and it would be my first Exaltatum. I am in the EU.

  • Mimosa Indigo by Atelier Cologne is one of my favorite fragrances. Check it out if you haven’t!

  • Naomi Sawyer says:

I first encountered mimosa in FM’s un fleur de cassis, and it has mesmerized me ever since. Samantha’s article has revived my interest in exploring other interpretations of this precious flower – thank you! I have never tried Exultatum, but would love too.

    New Hampshire

  • I also tasted all the flora in my backyard growing up! Dandelion, grass leaves and seeds, bitter oak leaves, rose, peony, and magnolia petals, pine needles, mulberry leaves and berries, cherry blossoms and sour cherries, buttercups, all of it was fair game to sample (when my parents weren’t looking)! Loved this element of the review as it brought my back to my childhood!

I didn’t have mimosa growing up and so would be thrilled to try this perfume with its realistic mimosa note! In Canada.

  • The review took me to seaside with flowering mimosa bushes that I sadly can’t visit right now. I would love to have their scent in a bottle.

  • Iuno Feronia says:

Mimosa trees smell wonderful and look beautiful. It is one of my favourite scents for spring. I always remember my holidays in Italy with lots of Mimosa. Thanks for the draw, I live in the EU.

  • I don’t think I’ve ever owned a perfume with mimosa, but this one seems dreamy and feminine and would be a nice addition to my collection :). Several months ago I’ve tested Ruby Wood and it hit me hard. Fell in love instantly and can’t get it out of my head. So I`m eager to try this one too. I`m in EU.

  • I also want to go to a place I’d never want to leave – thank you, Samantha, for making it all that easy 🙂
All this yellow, gold, imagery, and Samantha’s review make Mimosa Gold a must try.

The only mimosa fragrance I own is Mimosa Mixte. I think I know what mimosa smells like but I’m still not completely sure. Either way, I love all of the notes in this one and I sounds so beautiful. Now I’m crazing marzipan too. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • Thank you Samantha for taking us down the memory lane of childhood. Love mimosa smell, though I have experienced it only via an eponymous incense. Mimosa Gold seems to be cheerful, lovely perfume. Appreciate the draw too, of course – writing from USA.

  • This reviewed conveyed perfectly the feeling of carefree days during our childhood. The golden lights from the sun, the sweet smell of flowers in the air…The last paragraph summerise perfectly.Never tried any perfume from Exaltatum, this would be a great beginning I think.

I love how some perfumes can evoke childhood memories and take you back to dreamier times. Mimosa gold sounds like a perfect perfume for summer. Although I live in London, I have never tried an Exaltatum fragrance before and it is getting raving reviews. Will definitely go check this house out. Marit, UK

  • Samantha, thank you for the fantastic review. Eglija, thank you for creating this wonderful perfume and for the generosity of the draw.

Samantha, you summed up exactly what most of us are craving right now – the long-gone days of carefree childhood, of experiencing everything as new and being unabashadely inquisitive. You are also the first person I’ve heard of eating the center of Daisies!

This perfume sounds absolutely spot on for the times we are in now, it sounds magnificent.

I have not yet tried anything from Exaltatum, but this underscores the fact that I must, and soon!

    I am in the US.

  • Michael Prince says:

I loved Samantha’s review of Exaltatum Mimosa Gold with her descriptive backstory on Mimosa. It sounds like a beautiful fragrance with almond blossom and plum mixing together with beautiful florals such as Mimosa that transitions to a sweet and creamy base of heliotrope, sandalwood, benzoin, and tonka. I do own a small bottle of Exaltatum Pergola a beautiful green and fresh fragrance. I am from the USA.

  • Margarita K says:

Just as in Samantha’s experience my childhood was spent mostly outside, in a climate warmer and drier that the one I live now, and the smell of plants, pollen and dust was big part of it. And the taste of them of course. Our favorite were the sweet bloom of black locust and honeysuckle.
I miss that boundless time spent in nature now. Fragrances substitute it just a little.
I haven’t tried any Exaltatum fragrances, I hope Mimosa gold will be the first one. USA
