Ex Nihilo Atlas Fever Review (Shyamala Maisondieu) 2017 + Rock the Casbah Review

Parisian brand Ex Nihilo, whose name – “out of nothing” – perfectly describes fragrances that seem to spring from the inventive minds of the founders and creators Sylvie Loday, Olivier Royère and Benoît Verdier who established the brand in 2013. The name Ex Nihillo means “out of nothing,” but the perfumes and the Givaudan perfumers who compose them are are out of this world!

I recently had the opportunity to chat with Shyamala Maisondieu of Givaudan the perfumer for Ex Nihilo Atlas Fever. Mme Maisondieu is one of perfumery’s most inspired and versatile olfactive artists.  Her work includes Etat Libre d’Orange Soul of My Soul, Parfums de Marly Oajan, Carner Barcelona Palo Santo as well as fragrances for Tom Ford, Lancome, Aquolina,  L’Occitane and many more designer, niche and luxury houses. Shyamalya Maisondieu is the recipient of the prestigious Prix Francois Coty 2019 and was one of three Givaudan Perfumers to co create Lancome L’Idole along with Adriana Medina and Nadege Le Garlantezec. My first introduction to the work of Shyamala Maisondieu was via Etienne de Swardt when I met him in NYC (Etat Libre d’Orange Charogne) in 2008.

Ex Nihilio Atlas Fever review

Michelyn Camen: What was the creative process for Ex Nihilo Atlas Fever?

Shyamala Maisondieu: I worked closely with Sylvie Loday and Benoit Verdier. Sylvie loves Ex Nihilio Atlas Cedar and she wears it even now.  It really started with an accord I had built around the idea of a cedar wood forest in the Atlas Mountains.

What was the role that was music played in Ex Nihilo Atlas Fever?

Shyamala Maisondieu: Benoit and Sylvie had also come to me with visuals; they wanted something very rock and roll but also that would be a tribute to their visit to the Atlas Cedar Mountain range in Morocco.  In fact, the title of the project was the Clash’s Rock The Casbah (the title of the Clash song), which I love myself and also used it as background music when I was composing Atlas Fever. The idea came from their time in Morocco, and also the beautiful wood used to make guitars.

Please take us through the fragrance’s development and the notes and ingredients.

Shyamala Maisondieu: I wanted something very bass (musically speaking) so I used a lot of woody amber notes as well as natural sandalwood, oakwood and guaiac wood. I love the element of comfort in my fragrances, so I used tonka and vanilla which brings out the creaminess in the woods. Because I wanted Ex Nihilo Atlas Fever to be special and different from the normal woody-tonka vanilla accords, I used Narcisse absolute for its uniqueness as a raw material and how well it blended with the cedar. It brought a real root like and a special floralcy to the fragrance. Something green as well on the top notes, which again reinforces the idea of a forest of Atlas cedar trees. So Ex Nihilo is really many riffs-music, woods, mountains and Morocco.

  • Wow, this sounds lovely! Shyamala Seems to have wonderful insight to composition. This perfume must be divine! Also, Steven is the best YouTube reviewer hands down. Thanks for the draw. From Indianapolis.

  • MarkMarkMark678 says:

    Fantastic review and interview.
I almost always manage to learn something from Stephens videos, and this time was no different.
I never really knew anything about narcisse but thanks to Stephen and Shyamala I now have an idea, even though I don’t think I have anything in my collection with a prominent note of narcisse.

I love the scent of cedar as in Creeds Royal Oud, but I love the idea Shyamala used to fill out the cedar and make it more bass heavy using the sandalwood, oak and guaic woods (I think I love guaic).
ALSO, the concept of the fragrance more comforting using vanilla and tonka sounds rich, and wonderfully delicious.

I was surprised to learned she was the perfumer for Oajan which is my favorite PDM, I’d love to sample some more of her work.

  • Brad Woolslayer says:

I loved hearing how the note of narcisse was used to make this fragrance a unique scent. I also enjoyed reading how The Clash’s experience in Morocco inspired this fragrance. I live in Maryland USA.

  • Really interesting that when learning about the role music played Shyamala Maisondieu described the amber and woody notes as the bass. I think its a perfect description for what those notes can capture in a fragrance. Redolessence description of the smoke and uniqueness really intrigued me. He described the smoke as modern and I really love when a brand takes a note and puts a modern twist on it. Would love to win the 50ml bottle.

  • Steven’s review made me want to sample this fragrance “Atlas Cedar”. Michelyn’s interview was very interesting. Learning the story behind Atlas Cedar. Fragrance and Music. The wood as the guitar, so clever. The song fits perfectly. Thank you for this Chance USA

  • Hello Steven and ladies and gentlemen, how are you guys? Thank you for that great information and presentation. Three things, cedar wood, the Clash and something out of nothing. I’m a minister and that caught my attention. I would love to win and thank you for having such a fine company.

  • Steven’s reviews are always wonderful (I am a subscriber to Redolessence). For Ex Nihilo Atlas Fever, it was interesting to read in Michelyn’s interview with Shyamala how narcisse absolute was used with cedar to create the idea of Atlas Cedar forests. Thanks for the review and draw. From USA.

  • I appreciate that Steven notes that Atlas Cedar has great longevity while not being linear at all and that it is suited to the upcoming fall/winter season. The use of Narcisse was highlighted in both the video and interview is interesting. Thanks for the insight and draw! NC USA

  • Always been a fan of foresty scents in every shape and form, but especially ones with a prominent cedar accord. The addition of narcisse absolute to give Atlas Fever a rooty sensation was interesting. Don’t see much of that combo in fragrances. But I love that Shyamala was listening to Rock the Casbah while composing. lol I can almost see it. If it was me, I’d be dancing! The smoke that Steven mentions is particularly appealing to me. Ditto with the steady progression of the fragrance. Haven’t smelled many woody perfumes that have a lot of movement from top to bottom. Loving the presentation too. I’ve held several Ex Nihilo bottles in my hand and they speak of quality. Solid review! MI, USA

  • Shyamala says Ex Nihilo Atlas Cedar is based on accord she made that was inspired by Cedar Wood Forest in the Atlas Mountains. She added vanilla and tonka to give it creamy effect. Steven affirms that gourmand vibe eventually appears later in the fragrance and it will also appeal to those who demand performance and projection from the fragrance. Steven adds he loves Fleur Narcotique from the brand. I am in US.

  • I love the idea of one art (music) inspiring another art (fragrance). This particular scent is intriguing to me because of the incense note. As Steven mentioned, I love a dash of smoke as it takes a sent to a new level in my opinion. In maryland.

  • I always liken music production to perfume creation to each other, so I completely understood Shyamala when she said she wanted”Bass”. When Stephen mentioned it having a smokey opening I was sold. This sounds amazing and complex with some of my favorite notes. Indiana USA

  • Thank you “Indigo Perfumery” and CaFleureBon for this generous draw! Love Steven review and Michelyn interview. I found very appealing in Steven’ s YouTube video review that Atlas Fever a long-lasting and exciting perfum and that fact that Ex Nihilo Atlas Fever perfume is chosen by men and women – lovers of rich and memorable aromas, that is great- me and my husband can share this unisex fragrance. From Michelyn’s interesting interview with Shyamala Maisondieu I learned what was the creative process for Ex Nihilio Atlas Cedar and how used Narcisse absolute brought for its uniqueness as a raw material
to composition and how well it blended with the cedar.
    USA

  • I’m still learning compositional breakdowns of perfumes so I tend to rely on trained noses like Steven so his reviews are educational for me. The fact that Shyamala Maisondieu has made used a lot of woody scents combine with Vanilla, tonka, and Narcisse to balance it out is something I’d like to try I’m not an expert on fragrances but i know i like to smell good and different from everybody else and I feel this one would definitely have me stand out with great longevity and silage look forward to getting my nose on this.

  • I think Steven did a wonderful review describing this fragrance. It’s nice to hear how the perfumer, Shyamala drawn her inspiration from music and nature as well. This sound like a scent I must get my nose on.

  • I never knew that Shyamala created for Tom Ford or Marly. What an excellent interview with the wood of guitar, and cedars. Steven was very thorough in the video. I read the Etat Libre D Orange soul to soul review and I am glad because I will sample this as well as atlas cedar. I hope to win. Viper Green I know
Thank you Indigo you carry cool jus

  • the video did a great job explaining how the fragrance has a 8+ hour of longevity. I like that in the interview it describes the inspiration for the fragrance scent is music. I’ve never heard of a fragrance having that type of background to it.

  • Pedro L Candelaria says:

As a niche collector, I really see this is a complex wearable composition. That green accord mixed with woods and creamy combination of tonka-vanilla make this perfume a winner. Love it. I hope I can get one of this precious jewel soon.

  • liquidasset77 says:

Ex Nihilo Atlas Cedar based on this video review has an accord pyramid that i dream of the red berries over cedar, oak and guaiac have to be incredible. its terrific to rea how the love of sound impact the development of smell; this fragrance

  • The fact that one of my favorite songs of all time inspired this fragrance its a must have 🙂 the perfumer also made oajan!?! COUNT ME IN

  • rachel wiener says:

I always enjoy getting a peek into how a perfumer creates a scent so this was a treat! I love Foresty smells and am curious about narcosis as I don’t think I’m familiar with it in a perfume. I love The Clash and would be so happy to have Atlas Fever/cedar. In the US.

  • Great review by Steven on an interesting new release. Atlas fever sounds like a great fall time fragrance. It was wonderful hearing about exceptional performance from Steven and the smoke note not mentioned in the article. I like the fact that music was an integral part of the thought process when composing the notes of this fragrance. Hopefully, I’m able to try out Atlas Cedar very soon!

  • Intriguing! I’m hoping to visit Morocco (Tangier) for an upcoming holiday, so definitely appreciate the natural inspiration of the Atlas Cedar range, as well as the intention of the “green” aspect from using narcisse absolute instead of other, more classic combinations.

  • I enjoy many fragrances by Shyamala, one if which is Oajan. I enjoyed the interview, especially the part about Narcisse absolute being used. Steven mentioned a touch of smoke mixed with vanilla. Sounds fantastic. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff! Mich USA

  • Carisa Tyler says:

This fragrance sounds dark, and rich for fall, but still has facets of brightness from the red berries. While watching the video, I was really intrigued by the description of the narcissus note in this as being green and slightly smoky. Seems very enjoyable for the colder months ahead!

  • What fantastic reviews Michelyn & Steven! ❤️ I loved reading the interview with Mme Maisondieu to get a sense of the how & why behind the fragrance. The sense of place is wonderfully tied to materials and the “bass” feeling really makes sense with the musical history. The Clash actually got their inspiration for Rock the Casbah from Rachid Taha & Carte de Séjour’s demo tapes (when they met in Paris). They play a combination of raï music of Algeria, Morrocan chaâbi, funk & punk rock. You should check out Rachid Taha’s version of Rock the Casbah, it’s amazing!
Steven did a great job breaking down incense comparisons, explaining the notes & structure. I would so love to experience this scent! USA

  • Interesting and original!
Narcissus and incense on a woody creamy vanilic base? I am intrigued by Steven’s description.
Also I appreciate to find out the source of inspiration and how the perfumer put all those ideas together to create this composition.

  • The addition of the Narcisse note with the woodsy and creamy notes, which is something I have never smelled before, is what appeals to me about this new fragrance. What I learned from Michelyn’s interview is that fragrance can be artistically tied to music which is very interesting to me. I can’t wait to try this!

  • Michelyn you rocked this interview :). This interview appealed to me on multiple levels. I am a fragrance geek, music lover, and traveller. Infatuation with fragrances…on-going. The Clash..1st concert, JFK Stadium, Philadelphia, 1982. Morocco..visited 1989. Lastly, my son is a guitarist…I can smell the woods of his guitar collection at his studio. All of these elements and the fragrances associated with them came to life as I read this interview and internally personalized it.
Steve’s review solidified this experience via his in-depth, detailed description of the notes, performance, and complexity of this fragrance. I am a fan of Atlas Cedar. Thank you for the tour…Rock On! 🙂 USA

  • I love this review from Stephen, as usual. This is my first time learning anything about the perfumer Shaymala Maisondieu, I really appreciated it she’s talented and beautiful!! I like how she mentions comfort in fragrances and the notes she uses to create that comfort. I also found it interesting that there is narcissus in this, totally unexpected here and unique. The notes used in Atlas Fever really appeal to me and I would love the opportunity to win the bottle!

  • what a wonderful creation came out of introducing music, perfume, in an amazing presentation by the talented Shyamala.. with Stevens’s description I can’t wait to put my hand on one of my favorite notes specially cader wood.

  • This sounds like a fully fledged fall experience. I enjoy reading the ingredients, the mission set to create this fragrance and Stephen’s video reviewing everything in detail. I am in love with all of the notes and the complexity of the creation. Please consider my entry for the giveaway and I’m looking to future purchases from Cafleurebon

  • kalexander1710 says:

First of all, what a gorgeous bottle. What appeals to me most is that the vanilla base combines with the woody base notes to make a robust exotic fragrance because they are some of my favorites. From the interview I learned more about how the fragrance is inspired by musical elements, which as a music lover, I really love.

  • Frank Angeloni says:

I recently was introduced to the Brand of Ex Nihilo while I visited Bergdorf Goodman and I loved every scent from the line. Reading this article, I was interested once I seen my favorite 2 notes being in Atlas Fever. The best part of Atlas Fever is that it has vanilla with my favorite note to ever have especially for the upcoming fall season of woody scents. I know id never go blind while wearing this fragrance on skin and clothes due to the notes of vanilla and the woody notes.

  • I enjoyed Steven’s description of the different stages of this fragrance and its complexity. Also that he felt it is unique is definitely a plus for me. It was great reading in the interview about the actual inspiration behind the scent and the materials used in creating it. I also enjoyed learning a bit about the creative process and the background music! Thanks for the generous draw, from USA.

  • If i were to explain it in a sentence i would say, to me it looks like a vintage guitar wood scent. Woody vanilla notes would do wonders during the winters up ahead. Red berries in here with incense is something i have never tried before. Would love to give it a try.
I got to learn so many new things about Shyamala , especially her work with PDM and other niche houses. Nice work by her.

  • Hey guys this seems to be a awesome fragrance! I’d love to be entered in the giveaway so I’ll give my opinion on the topics. First Steven genuinely seemed like he was in love with the fragrance! His demeanor was beautiful to see so I know it has to be a nice smell. Shyamala interview from what I interpreted was very philosophical. Loved it! She seems fond of the natural touches. Gave a inviting description of the tonal and vanilla. Gotta say this fragrance sounds sophisticated and I’d love to try!

  • An awesome review, yet again!

Would love to try this one. Excited to try it as my first fragrance from the house.

  • Thanks for very interesting interview and video!! Love cedar notes very much and in addition Redolessence description of the smoke and uniqueness really intrigued me.
Would love to win a bottle.
    US

  • I enjoyed that the perfume is being constructed musically. I like that Shyamala did not want to go with a typical tonka-vanilla scent and added a twist to make it unique. I enjoyed Steven’s presentation a lot. I like that he described it as non-linear long-lasting fragrance. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity.

  • Thank you Michelyn for the interview as it is always a pleasure to hear the perfumer’s thoughts. I was unaware that Shyamala Maisondieu was the perfumer for PDM Oajan which I like. Steven’s review was detailed and enlightening and his description of the bit of sweetened smoke was intriguing. Atlas Cedar sounds perfect especially as we get away from the summer months. I’m in USA

  • “I wanna rock” after this interview from Michelyn with Shyamala Maisondieu love how she mixed the two… “Out of nothing” listening to music to be inspired!! Very interesting & love learning how they make/come up with these masterpieces!! Redolessence is the best video reviewer in the YouTube realm.. my opinion!! Any dark & loud fragrance is on my radar & this one sounds very intriguing!! USA thanks for chance & good luck everyone!!!

  • Great review and video. I love Steven’s breakdown of the “architecture” of the fragrance, including the various notes that are used to build the base, for example. It sounds exotic and right up my alley. I thought the interview was cool, too. I liked hearing about the Moroccan inspiration for the fragrance. Makes me desperate to try it! Cedar is a favorite note of mine. The narcisse absolute sounds appealing too. Cheers from NC, USA.

  • Both in the video and the interview I loved how they discussed the different elements of the fragrance and how well they fused together. Steven’s genuine delight in fragrances that interest him make his videos wonderful to watch. Also as a bonus, I am a huge Clash fan so anything that takes inspiration from one of their classics is something I just have to get my nose on.

  • From the interview I learned that Shyamala worked closely with Sylvie Loday and Benoit Verdier. From the vid I found appealing the red berry and incense opening. US

  • It’s always amazing to watch Stephen’s videos and learn something worthwhile each time . I never really knew about this house and Shyamala who seems to me a very talented perfumist.
The ambery and sandal woody notes of this fragrance interest me the most which combined with vanilla gives it the creaminess. Love it USA

  • I’m curious about the Morocco slant to this. I love guiacwood ever since I smelled the fragrance “guaiac” which has been discontinued. I’ve recently gotten into green scents. I’d love to smell this, one of my other favorite greens has the narcissus note. I have started paying more attention to the perfumer so love when the creator is mentioned and take note to follow a few of my favorites. I have only smelled Viper Green from this line, it’s lovely but I was looking for more green in that one. I’d love to try this. Thanks for the chance. USA

  • Ex Nihilo is a brand that’s intrigued me for some time now. I’ve only had the chance to try Bois d’Hiver, and Atlas Cedar – both are lovely btw. Atlas Fever’s scent profile seems right up my alley, and I presume is a versatile wear during cold months. If I wasn’t already intrigued, then reading that it was inspired by one of my all-time favorite bands’ songs, one that was released the year I was born has me fixing to get my nose on this one, and post-haste.

  • Atlas Fever is one of my favorite fragrances, Its high quality notes blend so well. Shyamala Maisondieu has earned her reputation of one of best perfumers working today. Narcisse absolute seems like a great choice to make this scent different from some of the usual suspect vanilla tonka fragrances. I would love to have a bottle of Atlas Fever Cedar.

  • Definitely a unique scent , a creamy sandalwoody opening is something to look for in this scent. Vanilla notes with woody notes are my favorites. Shyamala has definitely proved it yet once again and this fragrance is definitely going to be one of my most favorites .US, NYC

  • Ex Nihilio i have no experience with, but
Atlas Cedar sounds great. It’s right up my alley kind of fragrance , deep , rich and potent woody fragrance, with incense, all softened with vanilla and tonka bean.
It was interesting to learn from Michelyn interview, Atlas Cedar is inspired by Morocco, and Rock and Roll music , and it’s made by the same perfumer, who also made Oajan, my favorite Parfums de Marly
    Good performance is always appreciated
    Exciting giveaway, USA
    Regards

  • I totally love Woody fragrances. Sounds like it has many facets to it according to the review.
Ex Nihilo is above and beyond in excellence.

  • Great detailed review Steven! I love the inspiration and creativity that can be found by combining different art forms (music and art). The addition of Narcisse absolute is an exciting touch when used with incense, smoke and cedar. I’m in MD, USA.

  • The fragrance intrigued me when Redolessence mentioned that it was dark and slightly smoky. I am in search of the perfect dark fragrance which is not too dark and hard to wear. I always love to know what’s the inspiration of a fragrance and how it’s made. So it was great to hear that Shyamala Maisondieu was inspired by a Cedar wood forest and also focused on the base notes.

  • DulciusExAsperis says:

So excited to get my nose on this combo of narcissus and woods. Cedar is one of my favorite notes. I always appreciate the brevity (yet thoroughness) of Steven’s reviews! Enjoyed his description of how the narcissus mingles with the wood and vanilla. From the interview: I’m always very interested in hearing about the creation process, so knowing the music that’s part of the inspiration always gives me a better depth of understanding when I do get the chance to smell it! I’m in the USA.

  • I love Steven’s review on YouTube — Redolessence always does such a good job describing the DNA and explaining the development of the scent.

I love how the notes hold tight to the woods and give some beautiful sweetness without entering a clawing realm. It sounds so smooth and perfect for this fall/winter! I hope to add it to my small but slowly growing fragrance collection.

I enjoyed the article describing the attachment to woods because of their visit to Morocco. The tie between the scent and the wood used to make guitars is such an awesome part of the scent, I hope to smell this and win the giveaway.

    Washington State resident.

  • This was insightful! Though somewhat familiar with the house “ex nihilo” I had no idea it stands for out of nothing. I enjoyed learning from Shyamala how one accord ‘cedar’ started this whole composition sounds divine! I always enjoy Steven’s review he has a way with words. One could be saying many things yet you don’t really get a sense for the perfume. With Steven’s review, I can almost visualize and get a feel for the fragrance itself. Based in MN, US

  • I wonder what kind of fragrance Steven called , “unique fragrance” , and most importantly “Masterpiece ” ??
Ex Nihilo i have no experience with, in Atlas Cedar i see classically structured woody aromatic, modernized with slight additions of gourmand touches. Contemporary and refined fragrance i’d wear with a suit. I hope I’ll get more incense.
I also learned from Michelyn interview, that Sylvie Loday and Benoit Verdier told Shyamala Maisondieu , how they took some inspiration their time in Morocco , and love for rock and roll music
    Thank you all

  • Good review and interview.
I always manage to learn something from Stephens videos.
I love the way Shyamala has described the use of the components in the perfume. Cedar wood , Guiac wood, sandal wood , amber…these are components that just gives you a very woodsy feeling. have tries some perfumes with a bit of component here and there with oud and papyrus along with vanilla or tonka bean in the base to give it sweetness.
would love to try out the perfume, and would win the giveaway probably. fingers crossed. From India

  • I really enjoyed by Steven’s video and Michelyn’s article. A lot of my personal fragrance collection is composed of woody style fragrances. It’s one of my favorite styles. And the notes of this fit that profile. I’ve never tried any scents by this perfume house so I’d be thrilled to win Atlas Cedar.
    I live in the USA.

  • Sounds lovely and I really enjoy vanilla and sandalwood combinations but this sounds a bit more unique than your run of the mill tonka infusions. I’ve never smelled Narcisse but it sounds interesting.

  • petagay edwards says:

I’m a huge fan of dark fragrances so when Steven described the fragrance as dark, sweet and smoky I immediately became interested. I learned from Shyamala Maisondieu that the woods in the fragrance is meant to be the focus as the fragrance was inspired by a cedar wood forest. So cool because I adore fragrances with strong woody bases.

  • I like hearing about a fragrance which seems to be dark and heavy, but not boring or linear at the same time. I enjoy the use of cedar in fragrances, and I also enjoy red berries, incense, different woods, vanilla, and a good use of narcissus in fragrances. Michelyn’s intro. w/ Shyamala Maisondieu caused me to have a better understanding of Shyamala’s previous works. I live in MD., U.S.A.

  • Ex Nihilo is a brand I have no experience with , but Shyamala Maisondieu I know for Oajan.
After watching Steven review of Atlas Cedar , I imagined making Baghrir , traditional Moroccan Cake with pomegranate , and having a walk in the Atlas Mountains cedar woods.
Well spent time in Morocco, cedar forest, red berries, incense and vanilla, anf rock music, unusual inspiration for unique fragrance . Atlas Cedar is a fragrance I’ll definitely try.
Appreciate both Michelyn interview, Steven review , and the giveaway campaign

  • The interview and the video review really complement each other. Steven makes it sound terrific. I love cedar and vanilla…and dark fragrances in general. And the interview only increases the intrigue for me, as I’m a big fan of both Morocco and the Clash! I’m a Redolessence subscriber. And I’m in Oklahoma, USA. Thanks, as always, for the draw!

  • What appeals to me about Ex Nihilo Atlas Cedar based on this video review is how he describes it as both long lasting and yet remarkably multidimensional and complex. I too have noticed, same as Steven, that most long lasting fragrances are very bottom-note heavy, and thus are often very linear. Therefore a fragrance like Atlas Cedar, which has smokiness, incense, and the tobacco nuances of the heady narcissus, managing to both have incredibly longevity and maintain the complexity of its top and heart notes, really appeals to me.

I really enjoyed learning from Michelyn’s interview that rock and roll was a central part of the vision for the perfume, and in fact that Rock the Casbah was used as inspiration and background music for the composition! How cool is that!

    I live in the US.

  • Shyamala Maisondieu is a perfumer I like a lot.
The only fragrance that i own from Carner Barcelona is 100ml of Palo Santo , one of her creations, I saw Michelyn mentioned it.
From the interview I learned about Sylvie Loday and Benoit Verdier affinity for rock music, cedar forests in Morocco , and how Shyamala Maisondieu used natural sandalwood, oak and guaiac wood , vanilla, and narcissus to give Atlas Cedar a small floral twist.
Such a beautifully evocative fragrance , it shows French perfumery with Moroccan background, all at its finest. I’d love to win a bottle.
My favorite Ex Nihilo is called Amber Sky , Harrods London exclusive , truly gorgeous fragrance
Lovely opportunity , thank you Michelyn , Shyamala Maisondieu, Steven and Indigo Perfumery

  • Wow! The interview really helped me understand the direction these artists wanted to go in. I understand the description of a Cedar Mountain range and the wood for guitar bodies. I can smell it in my mind now.

I’ve never tried an Ex Nihilo fragrance. Steven’s review of Atlas Cedar makes me feel like I’m ready for Fall leaves, big sweaters and a scarf with this sprayed on it around my neck. A fragrance with a smoke touch is something totally new for me but I’m drawn to this one. I would love to try it.

Thanks for the giveaway. In the USA.

WOW! I received a sample of a few Ex Nihlio fragrances a few years ago and I have been loving every single drop of them ever since. My favorites from what I have smelled were Atlas Cedar and Amber Sky. Both of those will be in my collection some day, as both of those scents are simply STUNNING! These are pricey fragrances, but rightfully so, as they exude class and sophistication. I truly am in heaven when I smell Atlas Cedar… it is that good! It is wonderful to hear that Shyamala used Rock the Casbah as inspiration for Atlas Cedar… I am a big audiophile and LOVE all sorts of music, including Rock the Casbah by The Clash, so pairing a great song with, in my opinion, an even better fragrance, just resonates with me very well! Steven, as always, did a fantastic job on his review for Atlas Cedar. I love watching Steven, and have been watching him for years. We have very similar tastes… I have made many of blind buys from listening to him, and every single one of them have been a love for me! I am definitely glad to see and hear his take on Atlas Cedar as this is an amazing scent coming from an awesome reviewer! Thank you, Steven, for your take and thoughts on Atlas Cedar. They were greatly appreciated, as always, and I will definitely be looking out for the next video. A huge thanks to Indigo Perfumery for their generosity and a congrats to them for carrying this outstanding brand. As always, thank you to Michelyn for making this all happen. Without her, none of this would be possible! Sending warm wishes and gratitude from Delaware, US. Good luck all and stay safe my fragrant friends!

  • I wanna rock!(Rock!)
    I wanna rock!(Rock!)

The owners of Ex Nihilo wanted “very rock and roll” fragrance, and they got it , according to Shyamala Maisondieu perception.
Never been to Morocco before , but Atlas Cedar I believe will suit me well. The fragrance is dominated by different varieties of woods
, there’s facets of incense, and it’s slightly sweet. Steven also called it unique , that’s rare.
I don’t know Ex Nihilo, but I like their refined , but also modern take on perfumery.
Thanks to Steven, Michelyn , and Indigo Perfumery for the opportunity

  • I have a feeling, I’m into minority, but I never heard of both Clash and Rock The Casbah. On the other hand , I know Atlas Cedar.
I like not just the scent , but the duality in it. On paper I fully agree with Steven review, but on my skin the fragrance gets a lot sweeter , and i really mean a lot.
Ying (woody) and Yang (gourmand) part are fighting for dominance through the whole time , like two souls residing in one body . You never know what you’ll get from such complex scents.
If I have to rate my favorite Ex Nihilo fragrances:
    1. Night Call
    2. Atlas Fever
    3. Amber Sky
Both are from the higher end of Ex Nihilo portfolio, all three are fantastic.
