Esxence 2019: Parfums M. Micallef Fleur de Lune Review +Botanique Collection Draw

 Vintage Postcard from Grasse

"Paradise bathed in languid sun, land of plural beauty, Grasse awakens our senses. Through the city's alleys wanders the air of the fields, carrying the olfactory symphony played by the omnipresent jasmine, rose, iris, tuberose, violets, orange blossoms and citrus.  Such is the score transcribed by the BOTANIQUE Collection, the mirror of a generous light, of a nature in majesty." – Martine Micallef

Parfums M. Micallef Fleur de Lune, one of the five new perfumes by Geoffrey Nedjman and Martine Micallef for the M. Micallef Botanique Collection, which is indeed a song in scent, olfactory music inspired by the sweetly aromatic breezes of Grasse. My first experience of M. Micallef Fleur de Lune immediately revives long lost sounds and emotions of my past life as a piano accompanist.

The first piece of music that comes to mind is Gabriel Faure's magical song setting of Paul Verlaine's poem L'Heure Exquise: "La lune blanche luit dans le bois; De chaque branche part une voix sous la ramée – O bien-aimée…Un vaste et tendre apaisement semble descendre du firmament que l'astre irise – C'est l'heure exquise." (The white moon shines in the woods; From each bough comes a voice under the branches – O beloved…A vast and tender peace seems to descend from the firmament in which the stars glimmer – it is the exquisite hour.)

From the first breath M. Micallef Fleur de Lune creates multisensory images of an early August evening in Grasse.  As the moon waxes white and clear over the city and countryside, I am enveloped by a sense of Verlaine's tender, peaceful, exquisite hour.  I sense the late summer moon shining on fields of jasmine, imparting a magical, silvery glow to the soon to be harvested crops of flowers. A zest of tangerine and a touch of bergamot sparkle like bright stars, illuminating the midnight hues of the sky.  Rich fruity aromas, wafting from a faint whisper of tuberose and the dusty bloom of ripening plums, create a sweet languorous, nighttime backdrop for the ethereal, lunar jasmine.

As the moon sets over fields of white flowers, a mist of transparent musk signals the dawn. Parfums M. Micallef Fleur de Lune Fleur de Lune breathes a final sigh, singing a fragrant aubade to the sunrise.

Notes:  White flowers, tangerine zest, bergamot, plum and white musk.

Disclaimer:  I would like to thank Parfums M. Micallef  for my treasured bottle of Fleur de Lune.  My opinions are my own.

I love the poetic and musical inspiration of this perfume, as well as the combination of jasmine with zesty tangerine and juicy plum. And what a beautiful name Fleur de Lune is. I live in the USA.

  • goldenhour says:

I was instantly drawn to this fragrance (and lovely review) because I have studied and am a lover of both classical piano, and French poetry (Rimbaud and Verlaine being eternal favourites). Fleur de Lune sounds exquisite. I have never tried M. Micallef fragrances yet, but would love to! I live in Canada. Thank you so much for the draw!

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

What a lovely and inspired review, I closed my eyes and could almost smell the notes myself as they wafted up, like the notes of a symphony.  I have tried several of this house's Vanille collection, and have several more on my list from the Secrets of Love collection that are of interest.  Thank you for providing this most generous draw.  I live in the US.

  • Camelia1973 says:

Such a dreamy view, jasmine fields shinning in the moon light.Reading the review is like a short movie full of scents, flowers, forest and moon shinning.I see silver, litlle birds singing,a sense of home being and pace.Fleur de lune is a name of night fairy which flies from one flower to  another, gathering parfumes.I never have or smell a Micaleff parfume.Parfumes are my new passion after i discover Dana Sandu and his community.I have a lot to learn and smell.I live in Romania.

  • NiceVULady says:

A lovely floating and ethereal review that conjures up the fragrance with words and marvelous photographs.  I have one fragrance from this house which I like a great deal.  This sounds like a beautiful fragrance for the Spring and Summer.  Thanks for a lovely review and a most generous draw.  I'm in the USA

  • Gail, this was a fantastic review. As a singer myself, I speak on behalf of music makers everywhere and thank you for taking the time to learn the art of piano accompaniment! I think piano is second only to the human voice in being able to express emotion and evoke a response in the listener.

The precision with which this fragrance was described makes it almost as if I can smell it myself right now. Tuberose and plum are two of my most favorite notes! I would be honored to win this as my first M. Micaleff perfume. I live in the US.

  • im in Southern California, USA, and the jasmine is blooming and it smells divine!  My favorite thing about this review is the image of moonlight illuminating fields of jasmine.  I’m not familiar with Micallef, but would love to try this!

  • I love the jasmine, violette, tuberose scent,s so i would definitely love this fragrance. I like also Floral no 11 from Micalef. I am from uk. Regards!

  • fazalcheema says:

Fleur de Lune is a floral composition that attempts to imagine how a field of flowers smells at night. It def. seems like something that will appeal to floral enthusiasts as it is loaded with floral notes including jasmine and tuberose. My fav. from Micallef is Black Sashka. I am in US.

  • I’ve not experienced many perfumes from Micalef’s house and flowery based fragrances are not my favourites in general but i do like to experience a lot and i like to be surprised. Could be the case here from what i’ve read on Gail’s review. Thank you for the chance, i am in the EU.

  • Doni Light says:

Olfactory music is the best kind of music!  Definitely resonated with Gail's analogy of the moon's journey in the summer sky representing the phases of the scent.  I'm also intrigued by the combination of tangerine, dusty plum and tuberose, as I've never experienced that before.  Don't have a favourite from the house just yet, but that will surely change soon!  I'm in Canada.

  • recursivemask says:

Your creativity never ceases to delight and amaze, Gail. I love the scenes you expertly set, laying out the noyes and their relatioships. I want to get into florals, and this seems like a perfect way. I've never had the chance to smell Micallef's perfumes, and this seems like the perfect way to start. I'm in the US.

  • tuiu silver says:

I LOVE White florals, especially if it’s joinned by bright musky tones.

Gail’s review is pretty appealing to me. I love how the fragrance is “painted”,

the way the smell is associated with scenarios and romantic views is really a pleasure to read and to imagine.

I love a loto f M. Micallef fragrances, but my ultimate favorite is Ylang in Gold.

A beautiful and bright floral, with a lot of fruity and creamy undertones.

I’m from US by the way, and would love to join the draw please.

    Thank you for the opportunity.

  • I love the night! Thank you for your generous giveaway CaFleureBon and your insightful review Ms Gail. USA

  • First off I am in love with the bottle.  When I was a teen I had a collection of wax stamps and loved to use them on my handwritten correspondence (oh how I miss the handwritten wax stamped letter).  I knew I had to enter the draw when I saw the note of Guiac as Guiac is my favorite fragrance from this line.  I've gotten into jasmine lately and it would be amazing with the woody guiac.   Thanks for the great read Gail.  USA.

  • Like many people of poetic or perhaps faux-poetic tendencies, I feel strongly drawn to the ethereal beauty of the moon. I enjoyed reading Gail's description of how the fragrance evokes a fragrant moonlit hour, and I would very much enjoy the opportunity to experience the fragrance itself. I have many fragrances by M.Micallef. my current favorite is Watch, a lush opulent white floral bouquet, that is complimenting the spring weather in my region beautifully. I live in the US. Thank you for the review, and this opportunity.

  • I loved Gails imaginery notion that gets from M. Micallef Fleur de Lune with multisensory images of an early August evening in Gras and all the notes of the white flowers along with tangerine, bergamot and white musk not to forget to mention the lovely bottle.

I live in EU.  Thank you for the review, poetry, pictures and generous draw as well.

  • I really liked Gail making reference to her own professional life and how closely that resonated with this perfume. I myself immediately thought of Debussy’s Clair de lune when I read the name, the two are very similar both as sound and imo, in spirit. I only smelled Été, from Les 4 saisons line by Micallef, and I very much enjoyed it. Actually, this sounds a bit similar to that. If it’s anywhere close, I will love it too. I am from Romania, thank you for the chance to experience this perfume!

  • I'm intrigued by the description of florals under the moon, the transparency– enveloping without overpowering. I'm in California.

  • I loooooove M.Micallef so much! Royal Muska is forever going to be in my top 5…so I saw the release of these and was very intrigued! Also, I have had the most wonderful dealings with the M.Micallef online store team – they are generous and lovely and just so nice.

This fragrance would make me think of summer in the coming depths of cold we will be getting here in Melbourne.

Would LOVE to win – I am in Melbourne Australia <3

  • I am intrigued by the scent of floral under the moon. The cool. Transparency. The scent of breeze and life without potency of hot sun. I'm in California.

  • I love Micallef and my favorite is pure extreme

this is a poetic review and I would love to win

  • O, what lovely dreams this fragrance will evoke! I love how Gail describes how this scent reminds her of a summer evening in Grasse. I love to visit there sometime! It sounds lovely, just a this new perfume from one of my favorite perfume houses! Two of my favorite perfumes are Ylang in Gold and Note Vanillee. I’m from the Netherlands.

  • bigscoundrel says:

The combination of white florals, musk, citrus, and plum sounds amazing. I have not tried Parfums M. Micallef, yet. I'm in the USA.

  • Sounds gorgeous! I love the way the review ties together music, poetry, and scent. I live in the US and would love to try this. Thanks for the draw!

  • Oh those notes sound like a gorgeous combination!  I love how the article connects pieces of music to the fragrance to create a symphony of the senses.  I live in KY, USA, and have not yet had the pleasure of experiencing any offerings from the house.

  • I love the photo of the moon and the tiny white petals reflected in the moonlight! It gives some idea of the delicacy of this perfume. I am a huge jasmine lover so this sounds divine. Thanks for the review. USA

  • Many thanks for this draw.

I've never tried any scent from M. Micallef but after reading this review from Gail Gross, I'm super excited to try it out. I'm a sucker for jasmine scents, but at the same time the most difficult jasmine lover to please.

    I live in Europe.

  • What appeals to me about this fragrance is my favorite flower note Jasmine and favorite fruit note plum are both present in this. My favorite from the house is Ylang in gold.

Thank you for the lovely giveaway.

    I live in the USA!

  • I sense the late summer moon shining on fields of jasmine, imparting a magical, silvery glow to the soon to be harvested crops of flowers.

Ok you got my attention . Interesting combination of notes , plus plum is one of my favorite notes in perfumery .

As for M.Micallef personally do not own any , but my husband owns Avant-Garde – to me again it’s unisex especially the drydown , and i’m wearing it from time to time.
It will be a dream to win Fleur de Lune .

Back and forth between USA and Scotland (EU/UK).1 week in US ->1 week in Scotland , and so on.  Basically both USA and EU at the same time

  • What a gorgeous, otherworldy fragrance! I am a huge fan of M. Micallef, so this is so very exciting to have the opportunity to experience this new scent. Thank you for the draw! I live in the US!

  • I've never smelled anything from Parfums M. Micallef but the notes sound so gentle and airy. I love the freshness it conveys with the white flowers, bergamot and white musk. It really sounds so pretty.

    I live in the USA.

  • I have never had a chance to try anything from M.Micallef yet. Fleur de Lune sounds wonderfully to me from the base of the review and from the notes. I would very love to try it. Thank you very much for the chance. I live in Europe.

  • I used to dislike white florals but in the past year I've encountered a few that have made me change my mind and want to continue to explore this olfactive family.

Gail's poetic review evokes images of an early summer evening and I'm torn between two desires: to refresh my memory on French Lit or read about the newest addition to Martine's scent collection. Speaking of which: I've only tried Style so far, can't wait to try more of her perfumes.        I live in Russia

  • I live in the USA, I love the notes of this fragrancem they are minimal and beautiful! Gail's poetic review is so beautiful and really gives me a visual of what its like to be in Grasse and sitting on a patio in Grasse enjoying the nigh air and smelling the unharvested flowers, this is a beautiful review for a beautiful fragrance! I do not have a favorite fragrance from M. Micallef!

  • Never been to Grasse , and I can't tell about early August evenings there  , but I can tell Fleur de Lune is classy citrus fruity floral fragrance perfect for the spring and summer nights.

Fruity sweet fragrances I really like , and plum IF it's done the right way gives colognes a sweet and a bit sour twist.

Can't tell if it's my favorite one , because it's the only one I know , but my girlfriend owns Mon Parfum Cristal. What a gorgeous scent,  but I think it's marketed. .  a bit wrong.  Yes it's gourmand,  but in 2019 it should be unisex in my opinion.  I can pull it off without any issues,  and I do . My girlfriend says it smells sexy and alluring on me.

    Appreciate the giveaway campaign.

  • The name, the notes and the review transport me to a peaceful summer night. I like the poetic vibe of this review and the bottle is also great. I don’t have any favorite Micallef perfumes. Thanks for the draw! From Finland.å

  • Citrusy , fruity floral with sweetness and musk in the base = winner. I like the simplistic design of the bottle. I'm a bit tired of ugly "I just want to be different" type of bottles .

I've heard the brand before , mostly on YouTube , never had a chance to smell any.

    Thank you for the opportunity

What a lovely couple! I am sure that when love is involved, magic things can be created and I bet Fleur de Lune is one of them.I think this one would be great for the upcoming weather, showing fruity, floral, but also citrus accords. I am in EU. Thanks!

  • I personally haven't tried anything from Parfums M. Micallef. Gail's review is inspiring. Years ago, I was heavily dedicated to making music but since I got a job, I haven't picked up my guitar again in months nor actually played it in years. I hope one day, I'll play it again. Greetings from the Philippines!

  • This article is second in this day which I am reading in Cafleurebon and both two are beautiful and made my day))

Thank you Gail, Danu and Michelyn for this beautiful reviews.

So nice description which made me to imagine romantic night, moon and flowers on moonlight.

I like jasmine and with bergamot, white musk wll be perfect romantic floral fragrance.

I like Royal Vintage from Micallef.

    from Armenia

  • I love the poetic way she wrote the review especially this … “As the moon sets over fields of white flowers, a mist of transparent musk signals the dawn. Parfums M. Micallef Fleur de Lune Fleur de Lune breathes a final sigh, singing a fragrant aubade to the sunrise”.

I do not have any favorite Parfums M. Micallef. I live in USA.

  • fleurdetilleul says:

Wow! Such a poetic review! I wish I had Gail's talent with words! Micallef has such a great collection of perfumes, truly amazing! My favourite is the one named after himself, M.Micallef (spices, roses, patch…mmm…a delight)! I live in EU.

  • redwheelbarrow says:

I’ve never tried any of this house before but I love the thought of the scent of jasmine under the moonlight. Oh how I love jasmine. Thank you for the draw. I am in the US.

  • Enjoyed this inspired review. I haven’t tried a Micallef fragrances yet and this sounds nice. Hope to one day. Grasse seems like a Beautiful place. Thanks, US

  • Citrusy floral with plum and musk is a nice combination for the spring. Happy and uplifting smell at least that’s how I feel about it after reading Gail Gross review. Sampled a few Micallef fragrances and the one that got my attention was Aoud Gourmet. I did 50/50 split with my sister in law and I’m happy now. It is a potent one and half a bottle will last me ages. I do have relatively big collection now after all. Thx to all involved in this draw. USA most of the year , and Germany from time to time

  • Michael Prince says:

I really enjoyed the review.  I enjoy floral and citrus notes with the idea of them combining with grass like you are walking through a meadow sounds truly amazing.  The sweetness of plum, bergamot, tangerine, and the sexiness of musk should compliment this fragrance nicely.

  • it is definitely a sunny fragrance, to start the summer in harmony with nature and the beauty of life. to try ….. I ADORE WATCH

  • doveskylark says:

This was a stunner of a review, calling to mind so many feelings. I am a moon lover, especially as it first appears in the sky, and then as it disappears at dawn. I also dream of visiting Grasse, experiencing all the sensory delights found in this part of France. I also appreciate the musical reference— one more thing to discover thanks to this website.

I haven’t tried anything from this house, but have heard so many good things about Emir.

    I live in the USA,

  • bumbuliuki says:

A stunning review Gail ! I 've been transported to Grasse experiencing the olfactory marvels of the jasmine fields lit by the moon.

Perfume becoming  a postcard is a wonderful idea.  Smell can sometimes create a powerful memory.

My favorites from M.Micallef are Gaiac and Akowa.

    Thank you the generous draw.

    I'm in Romania, EU.

  • WaltherP99 says:

I'm familiar with not all , but most M. Micallef fragrances , and i'll second @Uncle1979 statement about the wrong marketed scents they sell.  Aoud Gourmet , Vanille Aoud , the whole Vanille collection and especially Ananda Tchai are all unisex . If certain fragrance is labeled "For women" most guys wont even bother smelling it at the store , and vice versa – Avant-Garde is a fragrance my girlfriend loves on her skin.

Own personalized bottle of Delice , and i had Avant-Garde . Had … because my gf used like 90% of it .

Not familiar with this new Botanique line , but i'll catch up .

Intimate , perfect for a theater , opera , or a walk with your special one – that's how i feel about Fleur de Lune.

    Thank you.

Virginia USA , or London UK at least 97/100 times.

  • I haven't experience anything from Parfums M. Micallef brand. What I find most appealing is the use of jasmine.  I have several varieties growing in my yard. The moonlight and white flower imagery remind me of my Night-blooming jasmine, which is completely intoxicating. Win or lose. I'm going to order a discovery set. Here in USA.

  • That intro from the maestro himself is something 🙂 the review is very poetic and I'm sure the fragrance is a stunner. I have not yet sampled a Micallef fragrance and would love for this to be the first. I'm in TX USA

  • laureneboucher says:

This is such a lovely descriptive review and Gail’s photos are beautiful as always. Although I haven’t tried this fragrance I am definitely drawn to the notes. I would love to have the opportunity to try it. Thanks for the draw! I live in New Hampshire, USA.

  • Lynne Sylvaine says:

Gail really reviewed this in a way that I felt I could smell MMicallef Fleur de Lune. I love that the ingredients  are all from Grasse. The mix of poetry and music was delightful and intelligent. Rose extreme and Ananda pearl are two I like from this house. What a wonderful couple they are too

  • Great review by Gail and I love the idea of flowers under the moonlight. This fragrance sounds breathtaking. My favorite line is  “As the moon sets over fields of white flowers, a mist of transparent musk signals the dawn. Parfums M.
