Esxence 2017: Interview with Alessandro Brun of Masque Milano + Times Square, Mandala and Romanza Draw

Riccardo Tedeschi,Cristiano Canali, Christian Carbonell, Luca Maffei and Alessandro Brun at Esxence 2017 (via Masque Milano)

One of the highlights of Esxence 2017 was the introduction of Masque Milano’s two new fragrances from creative directors Alessandro Brun and Riccardo Tedeschi, Times Square (Bruno Jovanovic) and Mandala (Christian Carbonell).

Masque Milano is haute Italian perfumery and one of the few Houses to credit the olfactory artist on each bottle. They step outside the lines of conventional perfume and at Pitti Fragranze in 2015,  their display for the decadent, dandified floral Romanza was banned… the mannequins were considered lewd!

In Contributor Sebastian Jara's interview with Alessandro Brun, the inspiration for the perfumes, very different…Mandala evoking two monks singing and Times Square, an ode to NYC in 1993 when Times Square was not the Disneyland it is today… neon lights, grid lock (some things never change) street food, and when NYC girls in red lipstick and stiletto heels worked in offices or on the streets.-Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief and NYC Girl

  • Glossy Lipstick accord? Love the description of the collaboration with Bruno and the following descriptions of the notes. Also enjoyed the insights into the timelines of the company, the workings of it all. Thank you for this. I’m registered and in NZ.I have never tried any Masque Milano Fragrances 🙂 Love the names, Milano and Times Square!

  • Kyle Stevens says:

I love the talk of the old NYC with the food vendors and neon lights. That why I moved to Vegas.

  • I’m not familiar with the line which is what I love about Sebastian. He keeps us informed with the newest and hottest. Thank you!!

  • I love the interviews Sebastian does with perfumers. Its intereseting to hear the details from the horses mouth directly. The inspiration, the story behind each creation.

    In USA.

  • Ruben Lopez says:

Amazing fragrances. I always enjoy watching Sebastian’s interviews and reviews. Keep up the great work.

  • cardinalmind says:

What I enjoy about Sebastian’s interviews in milan are the chances to hear the stories behind the perfumes from the creators / directors themselves. No faves from them yet because I haven’t smelled any. In US (CA).

  • Jomathan Be Swift says:

What I liked about Sebastian’s interview, truthfully. Mr. Brun’s suit. Whoa! Fine Italian Motor Bikes , colognes and clothing . Best wool coats in the world. I very much enjoy Russian Tea. I own a bottle . I love it. I live in Ohio USA.

  • I liked the story Mr Brun told of the monks over singing and how he visited NYC in 1993. I have a sample of Romanza and Tango and would love to win Romanza
I hope to go to Italy one day.

  • Hikmat Sher Afridi says:

Thank you Sebastian for the interview! The story behind creation of Masque Milano MANDALA is amazing and the notes are right up my alley. Never tried any of the Masque Milano fragrances.
Thanks to the generosity of Alessandro & Riccardo and Cafleurebon for the opportunity.

  • ntabassum92 says:

Such interesting concepts, how he tries to make a fragrance that has inspiration from auditory harmonies, or neon lights – such abstract notions that we all may have different concepts of that are able to be translated into fragrance. Wonderful! I have never tried Masque Milano, and I am in the US. Thank you for this draw!

  • Patrick Echevarria says:

Another new house introduced by Sebastian to his viewers. That’s what make his channel interesting, new stuffs all the time. Would love to try this house. From San Diego here.

  • Thank you for this giveaway. I haven’t tried anything from this brand. I’m from Spain.

  • This brand sounds so good. They seem to take their time and study the fragrances before putting them out there. I am dying to dry L’attesa from the brand. From US.

  • I liked the very solid story that accompanies each fragrance as described patiently by Alessandro Brun.
I’ve never had de opportunity to try any of the Masque fragrances.
    I live in Romania.

    Thank you for this giveaway.

  • I agree with Roxana above on the story that Alessandro gave. That said, my favorite part, honestly, was Alessandro’s suit! 🙂 I want to know the brand of that suit so I can go get me one just like it. The bottle for Romanza is captivating and I hope the fragrance is just as good. I live in the U.S.

  • Thank you for this opportunity. As an Italian, i really enjoy hearing about our local brands and in this video i particularly appreciated the story behind Mandala. I tried both new fragrances at Esxence. live in Reggio Emilia,
    Italy.

  • I very enjoyed everything about Sebastian’s YouTube interview with Alessandro. It was really good. I have never had a chance to try any of Masque Milano Fragrance. Thank you very much for the chance. I live in Europe.

  • Foreverfragrantkid says:

I thoroughly enjoyed the interview worth Sebastian and Alessandro! I adore the inspiration of the scent Mandala, and the notes it contains! Haven’t had the pleasure of trying this line yet, but have been intrigued since hearing about their scent L’attesa ! Thank you so much for the opportunity to try these fragrances. 🙂 I’m in the US.

  • I love hearing the inspiration behind fragrances and the thought process in regards to what each note symbolizes in the composition. Hearing how street food and neon lights would translate to a fragrance was fantastic.

  • I am not usually a fan of video reviewers but I like Sebastian’s low key yet informative approach . He makes it about the perfume or perfumer, not himself. I enjoyed hearing about these two upcoming perfumes and hope he has more interviews to share. USA

  • Pete Pohlen says:

My favorite from the line is probably Russian Tea, thank you for this opportunity.

  • marcopietro says:

The idea of proposing the duality of the Tibetan monasteries songs with modulated fragrances on two levels is fascinating and I looks to try Mandala as soon as possible.
I love Russian Tea by Masque.
    i live in EU.
    Thanks!

  • I like Sebastian’s reviews because he meets so dreamy people in his interviews (Cecile Zarokian, Andy Tauer and so many others) that I can dream 😉 And I have made my first youtube subscription today, after years and years of watching Sebastian’s channel.

My favorite perfumes of the Masque line are Russian Tea, Tango, L’Attesa and Romanza (that is to say nearly all of them, knowing that I don’t know the 2 others !). I only dislike Montecristo (not my cup of tea at all).

    I live in the EU.
    Many thanks for the giweaway.

  • I was not familiar with the house before this. Thanks to Cafleurebon and thank you Sebastian for the interview. Mandala looks to be my cup of tea with resins, smoke. I live in the US.

  • Gerald Martin Moore says:

Loved the interview as always, happy to sample any of the Masque line-live in new York NY

  • First read about these two perfumes on Cafleurbon and am eager to try them. I like Tango and Russian tea.
Sebastian video was interesting because he let Alesandro Brun do all the talking
    I live in the US

  • Sebastian has a natural repoire with every perfumer Ive seen him interview or converse with. As calming as many of the fragrances he has described. I haven’t tried any Masque Milano fragrances but have heard a lot of praise for L’attesa…including from Cafleurebon. 🙂 I live in the USA. Thanks

  • Beautiful house.
Im curious of the new scents. Im a big fan of masque
    Since I love russian tea.

  • NiceVULady says:

Sebastian always keeps us up to date. I’ve always heard wonderful things about this house although I have not tried any. Thanks for the draw. I live in the USA

  • kaitracid says:

Most of their latest releases were intriguing. I liked that there is a story behind the fragrances. I only tried Russian Tea from them, which is a nice one. I live in Europe.

  • 50footRingo says:

Always interesting to hear about the inspiration behind these creations. Great giveaway, thanks for the opportunity. Cheers from Canada.

  • I like how Sebastian is making him talk about the fragrances and the interview is very informative.
Thanks for the draw, I live in EU.

  • Elizabeth T. says:

I really enjoyed hearing more about Mandala, which I hadn’t heard much about… possibly because it seems like a quieter, more contemplative scent against the more neon Time Square. Both sound very intriguing! My favorite Masque Milano fragrance is Romanza, and I’m in the USA. Thanks for the draw!

  • Iphigenia says:

I really enjoyed this interview with Sebastian and Alessandro! I loved to hear the inspiration of the scent Mandala, and the notes it contains it truly must smell divine!
I never had the pleasure of experiencing any perfume from this House but I would really love to.
Thank you for the amazingly generous draw and the opportunity to try something so exceptional from Masque Milano House.
I am a registered reader living in EU.

  • scentsible_gentleman says:

My favorite part about the video is Alessandro’s accent. I love his accent. I love how he describes the opening of Romanza as slutty lipstick. Awesome description. I love that lipstick vibe in fragrances. Lots of people don’t but I do. Dior homme intense rocks. I’ve never smelled anything by masque milano. I live in oregon.

  • MichelleU says:

I loved the inspiration behind the perfume, and I loved the whole concept.

I would really love to try Mandala.

I am a subscriber to Sebastian’s channel, I am following everybody on Instagram and I am a reader from the EU.

Thank you Wish you all the best!

  • Lellabelle says:

Very interesting. Masque Milano have being doing some very interesting things with unusual concepts. I’ve been curious about Romanza since the early press on it, but have yet to try it. The description is lovely. Please include me in the draw: US please and thanks

  • doveskylark says:

This interview intrigued me more about Times Square, a fragrance I’ve been hearing so much about. Will it reflect the grittiness of Times Square in the 70s and 80s or will it be more about the Disneyfied Times Square of today?
My favorite Masque Milano is Montechristo.
    I live in the USA.

  • Andreas Scheubert says:

I just loved how Alessandro described Mandala. I have never heard monks singing overtone-music, although I am familiar with what overtone-music – at least in Iceland – sounds like. So this is the first time I have heard about this brand which is why I haven’t got a favourite fragrance yet – however, Mandala sounds like a fragrance I could enjoy… So, greetings from Salzburg in Austria and thanks Sebastian for you great videos!

  • WaltherP99 says:

Own and love Russian Tea – imo this one is by FAR the best fragrance from the brand.Every time i’m wearing it it gets me at least 3-4 compliments per day.LOVE IT
Both Times Square and Mandala should be very good fragrances, especially Times Square.Love the interview as usual-long time subscriber since Sebastians old chanel , also nice description from Alessandro Brun and a good suit too haha
    USA

  • Love hearing about this one. Sounds like it could be a gem. I haven’t heard of the house so I’m intrigued. I’m in Canada and thanks for the draw!

  • As alwais Sebastian video-interviews are interesting.
I like comparition of Mandal with singing in church ( obertone?).
My favorite Masque Milano perfume is Montecristo- very elegant, but masculin fragrance.
I live in Armenia, but have addresses in USA, UK.
    Thank you !!!
