Élisire Aliksir Review (Philippine Courtière) 2025  +  Twilight’s Embrace  Giveaway

“I think I will buy the flowers myself*” you mumble, placing your keys in the tray in the hallway as you step inside.

Imagine this: you’ve just arrived home after a crazy day in the pre-holiday madness of the city. Close the door and feel your muscles begin to unwind the very second you slip off your coat, while the quiet tick of the clock smooths away the sharp, cold, spiky edges of noise still lingering in your ears. It’s late afternoon, but the shadows outside are growing long, so you pull the curtains aside just enough to take in the remains of the day.

Wash away the frosty bite of December and the spiky tension scratched across your nerves – then slip into your most comfortable satin robe. Finish your skincare in the mirror with the slow, precise gestures that only thousands of repetitions can carve into muscle memory, and pour yourself a glass of the driest, darkest red wine you own.

What else but Ravel’s Une barque sur l’Océan to drift through the room, the piano notes moving in perfect harmony with the lazy cat stretching her back in slow motion. It’s almost twilight now,  that fragile, golden threshold between day and night,  and the last rays of the sun filter through the curtains, staining them amber, turning the air thick and lazy.

Paris at twilight

The cat is purring somewhere nearby, ready to claim your lap the second you sit down. The blanket waits on the armchair, exactly where you left it the night before. And on the wall in front of you, a last ray of golden light projects the silhouette of the tree outside, with those stubborn late-autumn leaves swaying in the wind, flickering across the room like a quiet shadow-play.  In your cozy version of Plato’s cave, where the world reveals itself in outlines and gentle movements, you are aware of your presence and that one perfect, singular, suspended moment – when the world narrows to this exquisite in-between state where everything feels possible, and all is nothing but sheer, self-indulgent comfort.

This is the world Aliksir paints for me.

Franck Salzwedel of Élisire

Franck Salzwedel – image via the brand

With ÉLISIRE, I wanted to tell the story of my love for fragrance and painting, driven by my fascination for nature. The world, the sky, the sun, the light, the stars, and the elements. But most of all, the miracle of colors and their impact on the sensorial and emotional spectrum. Color has a transcending power, which acts on the body and the soul. Whether it is bright, vibrant, dark, or muted, alone or interacting with one another, color relates to emotions in a direct manner,”said  Franck Salzwedel

As I have previously mentioned, when talking about In Fabula, ever since I can remember, fragrance has been my synesthetic playground as I’ve never smelled anything without seeing something. A color. A sound. A texture. Something fluttering and suspended between my senses. And perhaps that’s why the universe created by  Franck Salzwedel in Élisire has made such an impression on me, as his creations speak in that same luminous, cross-sensory language.

Perfumer Philippine Courtière

These stories painted in scent and light now grow richer by one more chapter with Élisire Aliksir, an amber-hued elixir of alchemy crafted to capture twilight itself, and the fragile magic of the golden hour. For this new chiaroscuro creation, Franck reunites once again with Philippine Courtière, the perfumer behind several of Élisire’s most beloved compositions: Desired, Érose, Extrait Blanc, and Oderose,  a partnership already shaped by their shared sensitivity to color, texture, and emotion.

And then I saw the mood board. And I said out loud, without even thinking: “YES, this is exactly IT.” And, honestly, this could have been the shortest article I’ve ever written.

Aliksir opens with a quick spark of mandarin and ginger snap, the last embrace of the dying orange sun, soft edges of gold melting into shadows. The heart deepens with dusk-toned wood grains, smoked curves, and suede-like textures folding into the round gravity of oud.

Feels like finally getting your hands on that ancient book you’ve been hunting for years,  placing it on the table, trembling fingertips brushing the worn leather spine, and opening it with reverent gestures, aware of the fact that those pages haven’t seen the light of day for centuries. Specks of dust float mid-air in the last slant of daylight, as you inhale the newly awakened presence. Fine nervures of dried petals, honeyed vanilla, sticky resins – and somewhere in the background, the faint aroma of bitter ink infusing antiqued sepia paper.

Colors flash beneath the eyelids, like a swirl of molten lava –  sensual crimson reds, warm brass, rich coppers, and deep green earthy tones all bathed in that glorious, honeyed, antique gold-late-afternoon glow. “Moments like this are buds on the tree of life. Flowers of darkness they are.”* My inner Mrs. Dalloway swoons in delight and reaches for the bottle, again.

Quotes* – Virginia Woolf, Mrs. Dalloway

Top: Mandarin from Italy, Ginger from Madagascar, Elemi from the Philippines; Heart: Origan from Turkey, Oud from Bangladesh, Exotic Woods, Suede Leather by De Laire*; Base: Cedarwood from Virginia, Cypriol, Vanilla, Patchouli from Indonesia

*Suede Leather by De Laire – A distinguished, woody, warm, smoky note that is synthetically reproduced to evoke the powerful scent of Suede leather. It evokes an image of burnt embers mingled with the lingering smell of tobacco. – in a note from the brand

  • Nicoleta notes what influenced Franck Salzwedel in the creation of Élisire Aliksir; it is a sensorial creation inspired by art, fragrance, nature, the elements and color all combined to create a story that is an olfactic experience.

I love the analogy of the ancient book with the leather spine that hasn’t seen the light of day in centuries. There a lot of interesting notes listed, like ginger, vanilla, and leather to make this a must try this winter season. I live in Maryland USA.

  • Now that’s a globally sourced perfume. This fragrance would wear like a passport stamped in scent. Its construction is truly global, pulling rare materials from every corner of the world and stitching them together. I would love to sample. I’m in the US.

  • What captivates me most is how Nicoleta transforms scent into atmosphere — that twilight moment between day and night, where everything feels suspended in honeyed gold. The way she connects fragrance to texture, color, and emotion mirrors how I experience perfume myself — as something seen and felt as much as smelled. Her description of Aliksir as a chiaroscuro of mandarin light and oud shadow instantly pulls me in; it feels like stepping into a world painted in scent.

What I’m getting mostly with the fragrance and what the perfumer was trying to accomplish is the sunset turning into night. Hues of orange and amber come through from the notes and a warm embrace is the sensation I think this fragrance will provide. The suede leather note contributes to the glow the fragrance transmits. The picture in the mood board above best depicts what we should expect: brooding, antique glows with a hint of light in the form of the mandarin/ginger. This fragrance will truly shine in the colder months. I’m located in the USA.

  • I’m intrigued by how well-traveled these fragrance notes are! The opening sounds incredible (“ginger snap”) and so different from the earthy dry down.

    I’m in the US.

  • What I really appreciated about Nicoleta Tomsa’s Élisire Aliksir review is how approachable and clear it was. As a fan of Philippine Courtière, I already enjoy Dark Opulance and I’m curious to experience more of her fragrances. Knowing her family’s deep roots in perfumery, with her grandfather helping co‑found Christian Dior, makes following her work even more meaningful to me. Nicoleta’s way of describing Élisire Aliksir gave me a better sense of how it might feel in everyday wear, and it definitely sparked my excitement to keep exploring Courtière’s creations. Avec mes chaleureuses salutations parfumées de NY, USA.

  • I could use a few more buds on my life tree like this! The suspended moment at golden dusk with the cat imagery is so comforting and peaceful! I really liked the imagery in this review! The perfume sounds complex but lovely. I live in the US.

  • The synesthetic magichow Franck and Philippine weave twilight’s golden hush into scent, with mandarin’s dying sun sparking against oud’s shadowy depths. It’s like inhaling a Matisse painting at dusk. I live in Poland, EU.

  • Nuvare Aenra says:

This review really makes me want to experience that “golden threshold” moment she describes so vividly. The idea of a scent capturing not just a smell, but the entire texture of twilight the quiet, the amber light, the shift from day to night is incredibly compelling. I’m especially intrigued by the contrast she mentions: the spark of mandarin and ginger fading into those dusk-toned woods, suede, and the gravity of oud. It sounds less like a simple perfume and more like a bottled atmosphere for quiet reflection.

  • Nicoleta doesn’t just review a perfume; she builds a whole world around it. I’m completely sold on the concept of a fragrance built to capture that specific “golden hour” feeling—that suspended, quiet, everything-is-possible moment just before night falls. The note of “Suede Leather by De Laire” (smoky, like burnt embers and tobacco) combined with the last spark of mandarin is a combination I can almost smell just from reading. It sounds like the olfactory equivalent of a deep, comforting sigh at the end of a long day. I am from the EU

  • AromaAdventurer says:

The mood board alone sounds like a masterpiece. Nicoleta’s connection between the scent and the feeling of opening an ancient, leather-bound book with its notes of bitter ink, dried petals, and dust motes in the slanting light is what truly captured my imagination. It transforms the perfume from something merely worn into a tangible, almost literary experience. The idea of wearing a fragrance that evokes that specific blend of reverence, discovery, and quiet melancholy is deeply appealing. A truly thoughtful and artistic creation, as described here. EU

  • As someone who finds the transition of dusk deeply soothing, this review resonates. The description of Aliksir as painting with “sensual crimson reds, warm brass, and deep green earthy tones” all bathed in a honeyed glow is powerfully synesthetic. It sounds less like a list of notes and more like an emotional landscape. The ginger and mandarin as the “dying orange sun” is a particularly beautiful touch. This feels like a scent designed for moments of personal quiet, a companion for reflection rather than an announcement. A very compelling portrait.

  • FragranceFrenzyS says:

What sparks my interest most is the core concept of bottling the emotion of a liminal space—the fragile, suspended moment of twilight itself. Nicoleta’s review elevates it beyond amber and oud; she frames Aliksir as an “amber-hued elixir of alchemy” for the golden hour. I’m fascinated by the suggested contrast between the opening’s quick, sunlit spark of mandarin and the deep, smoky-suede, antiqued-book gravity of the drydown. It promises a journey from the last bright glance of day into the intimate, contemplative embrace of early night. EU based

  • What really sparks my interest here is the idea of Elisire working with Philippine Courtière on a perfume called Aliksir. Just from the name alone, it feels like it is meant to sit in that space between comfort and tension, like a modern “elixir” built for the Twilight’s Embrace theme. I am always drawn to scents that sound like they are built around atmosphere and mood rather than just a list of pretty notes, and this one really gives me that vibe.

I also like that this sits in Elisire’s world, since they already lean into luminous, textured compositions. The idea of something slightly mysterious, maybe glowing and intimate for the evening, is exactly the kind of thing I reach for when the weather cools down.

    I live in the USA.

  • wonderscent.mari says:

Élisire Aliksir sounds truly truly interesting: the days light has faded with the golden sparkling hues of mandarin and ginger, where warm exotic woods leaving a sensuous mystery veil in the air and in the background a very sensual base of honeyed vanilla, sticky resins and the faint aroma of bitter ink infusing antiqued sepia paper as Nicoleta beautifully describes.. I imagine this to be a very beautiful emotion-evoking mysterious scent and i like also the color of the bottle, it evokes the intoxicating and seductive aroma of Aliksir.
Appreciate the review and many thanks, as always, for the generous draw!

  • Ay ay ay, they’ve done it again. Nicoleta’s review paints such a lush and tender image. As a crepuscular creature myself, I fully understand what they are doing here. Dawn and Dusk are the times to be alive. I am in the US.

  • Ok honestly as a former English major I loved the references to Plato’s cave and Mrs. Dalloway- what a fun elevated review with those allusions! Not only that, but the fragrance sounds fabulous and cozy.

  • I love the atmosphere Nicoletta paints. Lazy relaxation after a long, hectic day. Peace, a cat stretching and sitting on my lap. I love these colors: “sensual crimson red, warm brass, rich coppers, and deep green earthy tones, all bathed in that glorious, honeyed, antique gold-late-afternoon glow.” I love the idea of painting with scent. A sensitivity to color, texture, and emotion. I love that unique scent of old books. I’m interested in genealogy and long ago had the opportunity to browse through centuries-old parish registers. I love the mood collages Nicoletta created. What more could you want?

  • Really enjoyed reading this. The way Elisire Aliksir blends soft florals with a creamy, slightly sweet base makes it sound like a cozy, elegant hug — subtle but memorable. I appreciate how the heart notes seem gentle yet sophisticated, perfect if you want something refined without being loud. Definitely on my list to try.

  • reyessence89 says:

Reading Nicola’s review was so therapeutic. It described the type of coziness we all crave. The purring cat, the armchair, the silk robe, and Ravel. I wonder if Aliksir would conjure the exact same image. Or maybe I’ve now been influenced. It doesn’t matter, as long as I can keep experiencing it on demand. Isn’t this what being a fragrance enthusiast is all about?

  • Kassie Tocko says:

i love how nicoleta referred to the fragrance as that last light of amber from the daylight sun- & then, the embers burning from smoked tobacco- this fragrance sounds like it really does evoke the fragrance of leather. i am not the biggest fan of leather fragrances- just on me, personally, but nicoleta has a way of making you want to wear these fragrances no matter if they are something that normally agrees with your skin composition or not. it sounds dusky, musky… leather & honestly, it makes me curious now. as always, beautiful review. i am in the united states.

  • Thank you for this wonderfully written text, it was a pleasure to read, I could picture myself after a long day. As a spicy perfume lover, I would love to try this, especially after a long day in the city in my pjs after skin care and with a glass of wine. Im from eu

  • Patricia R. says:

Light and colours are such an elemental part of life. “Moments like this are buds on the tree of life” – this part of the review appealed to me most, a perfume reflecting these glowing sentiments would be a nice addition to my collection. I live in the EU.

  • “…this exquisite in-between state where everything feels possible, and all is nothing but sheer, self-indulgent comfort.”
    Sounds beautiful…
    Greetings from Germany!

  • Élisire Aliksir sounds like the perfect scent for much needed self care during these stressful times. The sourcing of the ingredients is exquisite and shows that a great deal of thought went into crafting this fragrance. The focus on citrus, earth and woods tells me this fragrance will be calming. I’m not familiar with Suede Leather by De Laire, but it sounds fascinating. MD, USA

  • The images and colors Nicoleta associates with Aliksir reeled me in. I also have been craving a bit of ginger, it’s a versatile note and can be pulled into different directions depending on the rest of teh composition. I’m in the USA, thank you for the draw.

  • This sounds incredibly cozy, voluminous and basalmic. Just what I love in a winters perfume. It’s also exciting to me because I haven’t butter this house and to my knowledge anything from the perfumer. I always appreciate a house that does t just list notes but lists where they are grown such as Patchouli from Indonesia (is there anything better than Sumatran?) and Elemi from the Philippines etc. It makes a difference!!
I am located in the U.S. thank you for the generous giveaway.

  • Nicoleta, you were really inspired by this perfume if you’ve written such a wonderful story!
And then the description: a quick spark of mandarin and ginger snap, the last embrace of the dying orange sun… suede-like textures folding into the round gravity of oud… aroma of bitter ink infusing antiqued sepia paper…this speaks my language. It sounds so good and interesting!
Thanks for this, I am in the EU.

  • What I find most interesting here is the note on the suede leather accord being produced from a tobacco note and burnt embers. These things sound very appealing to me and I hadn’t considered tobacco as a source for a leather accord. Although thinking about it more carefully I can see the similarities between them. I’m in the USA

  • This sounds so beautiful sexy and mysterious and I am here for it. I totally relate to the author saying “I’ve never smelled anything without seeing something”. Scents are associated with so many emotions and experiences. I love the vibe of twilight in the winter. The beautiful orange of the last of the sun. The feel and safety of home as those last rays shine in. What intrigues me the most about Elisire Aliksir is what’s in the formula. It truly looks from reading the notes the perfumer went to all ends of the globe searching for the best of the best. Mandarin from Italy, Origan from Turkey, ginger from Madagascar and Oud from Bangladesh to mention a few. It really shows the perfumers dedication to the fragrance. They wanted it to be just right. I have no doubt this is a wonderful elegant fragrance. I would love to try this fragrance it seems like something special. I’m in the USA Pennsylvania

I love how the is described to feel like a fall evening at home. A little bougie in the best way. The notes of mandarin, ginger, suede, oud, and honeyed vanilla sound rich and unique, exactly the type of scent that would stand out on my skin and get people asking what I’m wearing. I’m from the US – New Jersey.

  • Magic hour captured in a perfume—what’s not to like? There’s also a range of textures here working to achieve that golden color as Aliksir progresses, with the composition weighted towards rich woods and leather. This is the kind of fragrance that feels made for elegant evenings out on a cold night.

I’m in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • This sounds lovely. I’m sitting here at twilight with cats on my lap enjoying the longer evenings. This fragrance sounds deep and dark. I’m giggling about a gift for my Mom under the tree……a 1938 book that was lost after my kids borrowed it from her 30 years ago. I found it on eBay. Happy Holidays and cozy evening is my wish to all. USA.

  • “when the world narrows to this exquisite in-between state where everything feels possible, and all is nothing but sheer, self-indulgent comfort.” I mean If this perfume duplicates that state.. that’s awesome!!
I found the first part of the review interesting as I felt like reading an atmospheric story.

Nicoleta’s review made Aliksir sound like pure bottled light— that fusion of citrus brightness and creamy wood feels both elegant and energizing. The mention of its smooth transition from sparkling top notes to a sensuous base really intrigued me. Aliksir sounds like such an interesting experience. I’ve never tried a fragrance that has the aromas like opening an ancient book. I’d really like to try the Suede Leather note. Smoky suede leather and tobacco are some of my favorites!

  • the story is great but you had me at the cat and the stubborn autumn leaves. Would love to smell this.

  • This sounds like a welcome wind down from a somewhat stressful day. Instead of reaching for the remote this feels like someone in their comfort zone with few distractions not interrupting the sunsets glow. The sourcing of it’s makeup is different seeming that it embodies a worldly presence, literally. Only reserved for those who can understand culture and the wisdom that comes with maturity. Would like to be in the races, from USA.

  • wallygator88 says:

Thanks for the beautiful and mystical review! Élisire Aliksir feels like a dusky incense-lit quiet hour — the sharp spark of mandarin, ginger and elemi opens like twilight’s first breath, then exotic woods, suede leather and oud weave in smoky shadows and velvet softness. What really stood out for me is how the vanilla and patchouli base doesn’t just sweeten it — it deepens the warmth, grounding that seductive oud-wood heart in a cozy, long-lasting embrace. I can almost picture dusk settling over an ancient city, with Aliksir as the lingering echo on skin. I’d love to try Aliksir!
