Electimuss London Vesper Reverie
Vesper Reverie is the latest release from Electimuss London and joins the Consort Collection containing two spectacular patchouli perfumes, (Persephone’s Patchouli being a favourite of mine). Perfumer Arturetto Landi takes this series in a different direction with Vesper Reverie drawing on memories of Tokyo tea ceremonies while dreaming in front of an Ancient Roman fresco. Vesper Reverie feels vivid and dream-like making it magical to wear.

Vesper Reverie explodes with bright colours and fruity juices from the moment it hits your skin. Blackcurrant’s bitter green stems bloom and burst packed full of deep rich berry juices. It’s kaleidoscopic as fresh peaches, soft fuzzy skin and all morph into ripe plump mangoes dripping with blood orange sweetness. The way they evolve and flow is splendid to experience. There’s a lovely salty airy muskiness that makes the sweetness shine while adding a twilight feel to the opening phase. All these colours and aromas wake you up to the beautiful world Arturetto Landi has composed within Electimuss London Vesper Reverie. One of his inspirations came from Ancient Rome, the Villa of Livia that hides a secret garden on its walls. A panoramic garden of an incredible accuracy of plants and fruits of all varieties creating a reality that cannot exist as one reality. A dream of nature rendered onto the walls creating huge enveloping fresco. Arturetto Landi captures this artist magic here in Vesper Reverie.

Green tea adds a subtle fresh green airy warmth that’s felt more as the fruits fade, their berries and stones turning back time, conjuring the flowers from which they came. A rich and complex bouquet of florals takes centre stage with subtle whispers of darkness lingering at the edges. It’s all handled in a delicate refined way. Vesper Reverie feels easy and beautiful to wear its waves of flowers flow over each other moving through that salty sea breeze. Champaca gives a soft fleshiness with a wink of sensuality, letting rose and iris bring out an elegance while magnolia teases you with a soft haze of petals lightly waxy, changing up the textures in delicate ways.

It’s hibiscus though that starts to stand out and steals the stage as the sun starts to set on Vesper Reverie’s day, waiting for the night’s magic to be released as the soft steam of green tea rises up. The hibiscus picks up on the marine saltiness making it tangy with a gentle pomegranate sweetness, like all the juices from fruits have grown deeper and richer, forming a beautiful flower with powdery velvety petals. Soft leather nuances brighten the red tones of Vesper Reverie making the florals feel lush and sophisticated.

Vesper Reverie’s final phase turns the lights down as the sun fades on this stunning garden of delights. There’s a gentle powderiness as dream and reality meet, giving you the sensation of touching Villa of Livia’s garden fresco wall (please don’t actually touch the art). The soft walls of Vesper Reverie age and fade like the final of light day soften into a gentle powdery slight smoky texture. Arturetto Landi is drawing on memories of his past in Tokyo deep on a traditional tea ceremony there and smelling the rare Kyara oud incense diffused in the air. Here in Vesper Reverie, he captures that rare incense magic. Kyara oud isn’t animalic, its a more of a delicate sweeter experience with soft clean woods merging with gentle honeyed and a nuance of steamed milk aroma. You can feel little diamonds of sugar sparkle, as if a gentle plume of incense smoke catches the light. The magic is enhanced by the darker tones of leather and amber giving a gentle char and sensual suede-like feel; it makes the sweet softness sing.

Madagascan vanilla adds a deep complex richness bridging the space between the creamy sweetness and darker oud and ambers, creating a dreamy musky haze. The quite magic of the Kyara oud incense has secretly been with us for a while, its opening aromas can sometimes have a beautiful abstract floral facet which is very presents in Vesper Reverie. It all depends on which incense wood is being used. I have a few varieties that are beautiful when heated a low temperature drawing out their subtleties.

Arturetto Landi’s Electimuss London Vesper Reverie captures that subtle incense magic in a dream like way giving it that soft haze of memory and slight abstraction again referencing the frescoes of Villa of Livia while merging it with his own life back in Tokyo. I highly recommend not testing this on paper and going direct to skin, as there’s some stunning qualities that don’t come out until warmed with your body heat. Vesper Reverie is a wild dream of fruits and flowers that fades like a soft plume of incense smoke into a beautiful hazy memory of sweet happiness tinged with darkness. But we need that darkness to remind us how beautiful the light is. Vesper Reverie is a rare light.
