The house of Dior has created fragrance masterpieces since 1947, making waves in the olfactive scene alongside their iconic “New Look” that celebrated femininity and opulence in post-war women’s fashion. Calice Becker’s 1999 creation for the brand, J’Adore, captured the classic Dior feminine fruity-floral bouquet projecting gracious and sophisticated allure. J’Adore was such a hit that 17 flankers followed soon after. One of these flankers was the 2010 J’Adore L’Or, an extrait concentration of the finest Grasse jasmine and rose essences set against a tonka, patchouli and amber base fashioned by François Demachy. Now, in 2023, Dior Creative Director and renowned perfumer Francis Kurkdjian has put his own imprint on this immortal scent with the launch of Dior J’Adore L’Or 2023, reformulated by Kurkdjian for Dior’s new era under his direction.

Dior J’Adore L’Or opens with a lovely tangle of fresh florals, led by jasmine, including the green stems of this luscious white flower. According to Editor Ermano Picco, “Francis Kurkdjian not only reconnected with the original creator, perfumer Calice Becker to better get into the original spirit of the perfume, he also succeeded in infusing the new J’Adore L’Or with his personal touch.” My own experience of Kurkdjian’s personal touch is his ability streamline and articulate, bringing a new clarity to the scent. My first impression is a beautifully expressive jasmine note. The intensely rich white floral has the subtle touch of camphor off the top, with lactonic and creamy vanillic tones that flush out lush petals. Apricot facets, ylang-tinged banana and angles of clove layer over a touch of enlivening indole. The fluency and coherence of the jasmine floats beautifully in the air around me.

Dior J’Adore L’Or opens to a fuller bouquet as orange blossom adds its honeyed and golden richness with hints of grape nectar, dark honey, amber, vanilla, and indole. Rose layers its own take on honey, citrus, and beeswax to the mix. The voluptuousness of these materials is legible and precise, like proper and elegant Doric columns. As the fragrance dries down, I sense the violet’s sweetness merging with a warm amber base. The golden aura of Dior J’Adore L’Or 2023 is Apollonian, shining the golden light of harmony, progress, clarity, and logic that will give us the gleam of hope for the new year.

Notes: jasmine, orange blossom, rose, violet, muguet

Bottle my own, opinions my own.

I will add Dior J’Adore L’Or 2023 to my list of fragrances to sample. I know that Francis Kurkdjian has created some of the most iconic fragrances of all time before working for Dior, but I wonder if he’ll create something as popular and iconic as Creed Aventus while working for Dior.

  • I love the creations of master Kurkdjian, when I wear his perfumes I am happy.
I hope he will continue to amaze all of us with his olfactory compositions that reach to the soul.
    Happy 2024 everyone

  • Oh, now I definitely need to try it. Always liked j’adore but never bought a bottle, not sure why exactly…
This sounds nice to, especially the orange blossom
    Thanks for the review!

  • I totally agree with your opinion on the scent: I smelled it just out of habit because I thought that after so many years and so many flankers, I would get bored of it, but I immediately put it on my wishlist since I find it really amazing!!! Well done and happy new year from Milano!

With all the respect due to all master perfumers, experienced perfumers and other fragrance connoisseur, I love all creation by Francis Kurkdjian, but I don’t think his interpretation of J’ Adore was in any way better. I love the old J’Adore (original formulation) and that was absolutely amazing. I also, smelled the new version by FK and although beautiful not as impressive as the original. I love MFK brand and some of the Dior offering, so let’s see what also can they bring together in the near future, but this was not it. Thank you, commenting from Orlando, Fl USA.

  • Because I am a man, I tend to stay away from very feminine white floral fragrances but this is a scent that I still need to give respects and credit to. I love Francis Kurkdjian’s work, and I believe he has a clear DNA that he molds many of his fragrances around. It is refreshing seeing him as the head perfumer for Dior, and he has already created amazing fragrances that will soon be known as classics. You nailed describing this scent Rachel! Props to you.

  • I was exited to see Dior release Jadore L’Or once more, however, I did not realize they changed the formula and was terribly dissatisfied with the change. It varied greatly from previous versions and, in my opinion, lost the original elegance. My husband walked into our sitting area where I had sampled the 2023 remake and immediately asked about the unpleasant scent in the room. Again, this is just my experience, but the original L’Or, or even the 2017 remake was an amazing scent that frequently garnered compliments from strangers as I would pass by. I truly wish they would revert back to the original formula and make it a staple scent in the collection.

  • The new Dior J’Adore L’Or is a huge appointment. I have been wearing the original for 8 years now.
The new one feels cheap and common. There is no imagination or creativity or freshness.
I am definitely changing my perfume, after i finish the last bottle of the previous version.
If Mr Francis Kurkdjian wanted to leave some heritage, I would suggest inventing a new one and not destroying a classic perfume.
Please bring back the old one.
