Comptoir Sud Pacifique Coco Figue, Vanilla Extreme and Coco Extreme reviews

Comptoir Sud Pacifique Coco Figue, Vanilla Extreme and Coco Extreme photo Sebastian

Discovering certain fragrances as a young adult can shape your scent preferences for years to come. Before we get to Sebastian’s video, I wanted to share my history with Comptoir Sud Pacifique. The brand was founded in 1974, but I didn’t learn of it until 1992. This is a real NYC story; I wandered into Windsor Pharmacy on 6th Avenue and spotted shiny metal perfume bottles with turquoise labels depicting a drawing of an exotic beach. I picked one up, Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Passion; I had never smelled anything like it. I purchased it and a few others from the line. My love affair with gourmands and vanilla perfumes had just begun.

The following month at my job with a shoe company (that rhymes with Dandies), I met with a Vice President from one of the largest Flavor and Fragrance companies in the world. I said wouldn’t it be great to have vanilla and chocolate perfumes under the brand name. His reply? “No one will buy vanilla or chocolate perfumes. Preposterous”.  The next year Coty launched Vanilla Fields, which became an instant best seller.Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

In this video Sebastian reviews Comptoir Sud Pacifique Amour de Cacao (1993), Vanille Extreme (2005) and Coco Extreme (2007).

Awesome review from sebastian very detailed and professional also Michelyn introducción was very descriptive and interesting, thx for the giveaway i would like to be entered to win a bottle of coco extreme:)

  • I enjoyed Michelyn’s reminiscences about her memories of Comptoir Sud Pacifiqueus and I always enjoy Sebastian Jara’s reviews because he does such a great job at describing perfumes and notes and how a perfume preforms. Based on Sebastians’s review, I would choose AMOUR DE CACAO as I don’t own any perfumes with chocolate as a note.

  • I enjoyed Sabastian’s gentle and thoughtful presentation as I always do and Michelyn’s introduction. I would prefer Coco Extreme. Thank you.

  • I trust Sebastian’s reviews, especially when it comes to gourmands as a “vanilla addict” myself. His description of Vanille Extreme being like sugary cereal milk sounds amazing! And I loved Michelyn’s intro, the attitude some have towards gourmands (especially ones centered around vanilla or chocolate) always surprises me. People shouldn’t doubt vanilla or chocolate as a main note in a fragrance, they are underrated! If I’m lucky enough to win I would be overjoyed to receive Vanille Extreme 🙂

  • MarkMarkMark678 says:

As always Sebastian gives very descriptive reviews the paint the picture with words and give you a solid idea of the fragrance itself.
If given the opportunity I would love to try Vanille Extreme Because of the way Sebastian described it

  • AleksCipri says:

I love Michelyn’s intro. I’m guessing the company she worked for was very sorry about not listening to her suggestion about adding vanilla and chocolate perfumes fragrance to their line :). I really think that a lot of people enjoy and love gourmands. I know I do. Although, not all of them. I don’t like things that are too sugary. Or vanillas that are too sweet. I really like how the three perfumes Sebastian talked about sound. I know about this brand, but I have tried any of their fragrances yet. I love chocolate and coconut. I’m afraid that Coco extreme might be too sweet for my taste based on Sebastian’s detailed review. I would definitely pick Amour de Cacao out of the three he suggested. I’m from Illinois, US.

Michelyn, loved the introduction story, I bet that person who told you it was a preposterous idea Vanilla and cocoa scents, was kicking themselves in the tush for saying that
Always enjoy Sebastians reviews, this one was great as I have had a few of these on my wishlist for a while now! As a gourmand lover, they all sound beautiful but I’m especially interested in Coco Vanille and Vanille Extreme, with the heliotrope and creaminess you described I absolutely must try it! Thanks for the reviews I think I see a few purchases in my near future!

  • Sebastian is always so in depth with the fragrances- super helpful (although he did Amour de Cacao? not Coco Figue?). I think the quote that Michelyn mentioned, “No one will buy vanilla or chocolate perfumes” shows so much lack of insight into the consumer base… Anyways, seems like you were ahead of the trend on that one! I would prefer Coco Figue.

  • Lol! I remember “Dandies”, Vanilla Fields and discovering Comptoir Sud Pacifique (Vanille Abricot) for the first time too! I love Sebastian’s comparison of the three fragrances, particularly their levels of ‘sugariness’. I’m usually wary of gourmands due to the sweetness factor but the heliotrope in Vanille Extreme has me intrigued. Commenting from MD, USA.

  • I have never tried any of the fragrances from Comptoir Sud Pacifique. I’m not sure why I haven’t really recognized this house because I am a huge fan of gourmands! All three of these sound delicious, but I’m really, really drawn to the Amour de Cacao! One of my faves is 4160 Tuesdays Over the Chocolate Shop, so cacao, cocoa, and chocolate are all appealing to me. I also love the price point on these fragrances. Definitely fit into my budget!

  • Like Michelyn I was developed a love for vanilla fragrances because that was the main note in the 1st bottle of cologne my father got me for my birthday. Great review from Sebastian as usual. I’m interested in Coco Extreme.

  • Michael Bullock says:

Sebastian is a great reviewer and I like the way he broke down these fragrances and I wanna win Amour De Cacco and thanks for the giveaway and have a blessed

  • Jennifer M says:

Hahhaaa, Michelyn was ahead of their time!! I also love intimate stories of falling in love with a scent. I’ve been watching Sebastian for some time, and he is authentic and I enjoy how intensely he wraps his personal history with scent and beings it into the world of perfume. I would enjoy any of the offerings, how about Vanilla Extreme. Thank you!!

  • Sebastian is so detailed with his reviews. I love his descriptions of each fragrance note by note. I really love his recommendation since we like similar scents. Michelyn’s imagery of her first discovery of the brand is so beautiful. I love how scent is so tied into memories. My favorite Comptoir Sud Pacifique is amour de cacao it smells to me of Christmas. I always got chocolate oranges as a child and this scent is exactly like that.

  • I know the company it must be Candies. My mom wore them. Michelyn they should have listened. Sebastian makes all of them appealing by amour de cacao
    USA

  • I love hearing about Michelyn’s discovery and love affair with gourmand fragrances. I, too, love them and I, too, began with Comptoir Sud Pacifique – Vanille Abricot.

I really appreciate Sebastian’s description of fragrances and I trust his opinion. He hasn’t steered me wrong so far!

The fragrance I’d like? Coco Extreme, TAKE ME AWAY!!!

  • Great reviews. One of my favorites was Annick Goutal’s Sables, so looking forward to wearing and loving yours.

  • I enjoyed Michelyn’s trip down memory lane and her NYC story on these first gourmand fragrances that used vanilla and chocolate notes. Sebastian’s review of the three fragrances was enjoyable and based on his description, my choice would be Amour de Cacao. I am in the DFW area.

  • Michelyn’s introduction exemplifies the power and beauty of fragrances- they’re able to evoke memories of events or a certain time from our past and send us on a trip down memory lane! Sebastian’s reviews are so helpful- he truly has a gift for describing scents and he’s so knowledgeable. I’d love to win coco extreme!

  • The introduction really hit close to home for me, because my love of fragrances also stems from important childhood experiences.

Early in my life, my mother ran a small business with a friend; in this business, they would make fragrances for the handcrafted, small batch candles that they would create. I remember roaming around the storage shed that they had set up shop in, going through all of the ingredients and taking in every aroma that I could. This curiosity has been something that has carried over into my adult life, and has made me have an obsession with, and love for, candles and fine fragrances.

The thing that most excited me about the fragrances by Sud Pacifique that were selected for review, was the vanilla offering that is in this lineup.

One of the candles that my mother would make was this warm, soft, milky, and rich vanilla; out of all the candles that she made, this was the one that I couldn’t get enough of. Anytime she would have to make one for an order, she would mix up just a little extra and pour me a tiny candle, scented with that vanilla fragrance, to take home.

Hearing Sebastian’s wonderful breakdown of the notes for Vanille Extreme, it took me back to those days of making candles with my mother as a child. It piqued my interest, and introduced me to a fragrance house that I would not have known about had I not watched his video. All of his videos are so educational and informative! Definitely my favorite fragrance reviewer on YouTube!

  • Sebastian’s review is helpful is distinguishing some of the nuances of these sweet-sounding perfumes. Also, just the very fact that they’re elevated enough for him to consider for recommendation in a world seemingly swamped with gourmands and vanillas is a testament to their quality. Michelyn’s story about meeting the industry bigwig in the 90s is striking. Back then even I could have told you that a good number of people would buy vanilla or chocolate fragrances! It seems like people like the VP just didn’t care what the public (especially, say, young women and girls) really wanted. So narrow in his thinking. Anyway, given the choice, I would take Coco Figue if it’s on offer, or Amour de Cacao if that’s the option. (SoCal)

  • Bryant Worley says:

Michelyn’s intro was good in showing how she came in contact with, and came to like, the brand. Sebastian gave excellent thoughts on each of the fragrances, breaking them down quite nicely, very nuanced.

The one that I would prefer is Coco Extreme, as I love coconut in fragrances.

I live in Waldorf, Maryland, USA.

  • wilsonwc76 says:

Oh, this sounds delicious! Based on Sebastian’s review, the Coco Extreme sounds beautiful, but the one I’d most want to try is Amour de Cacoa. I haven’t found a chocolate scent that I love yet, but this one sounds like it might be the one. And I love the reference to old fashioned NYC drugstores. It reminds me that I should always peek in to see what scents they might have! I’m in NYC.

  • For so many years, I did not appreciate the beauty of gourmand fragrances, but than, little bay little, and fragrance by fragrance, I have learned to enjoy smelling like a pastry shop, like a candy or like an exotic cocktail on a summer beach. The beauty of gourmand fragrances comes from the sensation it creates: playfulness, optimism, sun in the soul, fun and joy. I would love Coco extreme. CA, USA

  • Derek Bedinghaus says:

I like that he just stumbled upon the house & it became a love affair. There are new fragrances being produced everyday alot that many do not know about. I’m glad to have the review of Sebastians opinion of the top that should be sampled. Excellent breakdowns of each along with comparisons of what it could remind you of.

  • Shannon Rice says:

Let be Sebastian’s review! I am a gourmand lover just like him and cannot get enough of vanillic scents! Excellent intro, Michelyn! I have been an olfactory sensualist forever, but just found out there is a whole world of fellow scent cravers out there! I feel so lucky to have found you all. I’ve been subscribed to Sebastian’s YouTube channel for 1 month, and it’s on constant play! I cannot get enough. Really enjoyed the article here and the introduction, Michelyn!

  • I ready trust Sebastian’s reviews on goumands, and particularly loved the way he described the 3 fragrances in his video. Michelyn’s introduction was interesting, who would’ve thought that someone once questioned vanilla and chocolate in fragrances! It’s hard to pick one as a goumand lover, but I’m intrigued by amour de cacao, as Sebastian mentions , zesty orange, toasted-graham cracker and milk chocolate notes.

  • Yes I want to try one of these, from this house I have enjoyed the Aqua Motu. For the draw I’ll pick Vanille Extreme. US

  • Mary K Brown says:

I’m so excited to try these fragrances. Coco Extreme with its nutty coconut smell sounds like an ideal summer scent.

  • YES!! This line is the reason I fell in love with gourmands, too! It was Comptoir Sud Pacifique Amour de Cacoa and I still love it until this day!! And of course, I always enjoy Sebastian’s reviews. It was thrilling to hear him talk about several scents. But my true love will always be Amour de Cacao, and that is the one I would choose if I win.
    I live in the US.

  • ScentitarFragrance says:

I love how he describes how the notes come across , like the chocolate is more of a milk chocolate and not a dark chocolate. It is great to have his overview of how these fragrance really feel. I enjoyed your thoughts Michelyn on your experience and wonderment of gourmands. It is a beautiful thing to find a fragrance for the upcoming season and have some wonderful memories. I would love to win Coco Extreme for a warm sweet beautiful fragrance ! usa, ms

  • Pixiedust2 says:

I didn’t know this house had been around since the 1970’s, somehow thought they were a bit newer. Like Michelyn, I fell in love with gourmands when I first smelled Vanille Extreme and ending up ordering several discovery sets from Comptoir Sud. I’ve since bought several full size bottles of their perfumes including Matin Calin, Coco Extreme, E’clats D’Amandes. My only beef with this house was the discontinuation of Vanille Amande! Oh how I wish they would bring this back, it’s delicious!

Sebastian described Vanille Extreme perfectly when he mentioned the sweet milk at the bottom of the cereal bowl, with just a touch of that almondy heliotrope. Swoon! My absolute favorite from this house and I would LOVE to win a bottle of Vanille Extreme. Thank you for the amazing giveaway, I’m in the US.

  • patrick_348 says:

I feel like from Michelyn’s intro I learned something about the history of fragrance, a first-hand report on how there was a huge shift that began in the early 1990s. Sebastian gave an informative report on the three fragrances, especially because while one can figure out the dominant note from the names, we need to know something about the supporting notes to get a sense of how the scent works. All of them sound like they would be great fun, but I would go for Amour de Cacao, if only because I don’t have a chocolate-centered fragrance in my collection. I am in the US in NC.

  • I would love to try Amour de Cacoa. I enjoyed Sebastian enthusiasm for the house – Comptoir Sud Pacifique – in his review and the first time he smelled their fragrance.

  • Loved Michelyn’s introduction and the story of, once again in the history of many such occurrences, some top notch guy or gal saying something is impossible to a new idea, and then pretty soon they are proved wrong, when the said thing becomes possible. As far as Sebastian’s review of the three Comptoir Sud Pacifique perfumes, I am most attracted to Comptoir Sud Pacifique Amour de Cacao, as it seems the least sugary of these three gourmand perfumes. Not exactly a big fan of gourmand perfumes, but based on Sebastian’s review and his saying it has some spicy touches, I would choose Comptoir Sud Pacifique Amour de Cacao, if I were to win this draw. I haven’t tried anything by Comptoir Sud Pacifique, yet. Maybe Comptoir Sud Pacifique Amour de Cacao will change my opinion of gourmand perfumes. Thanks for the review and draw. Writing from USA.

  • Always love Sebastian review and recommendation as he’s also a gourmand lover like me. I have bought many gourmand bottles due to him. Also, I see you Michelyn with that dig to the VP. I would love to win Vanilla Extreme as I am a vanilla snob. San Antonio, Tx

  • Anastasiia Novosad says:

Hello everyone!! I like so much the Michelyn’s introduction as it is so nice to hear the real stories from people and there memories and how they remember them and with what they associate then.
I have never had any perfume from the house of Comptoir Sud Pacifique.
But I would for sure love to try Amour De Cacao as it sounds so delicious after I heard how Sebastian talk about it!!!) I enjoy all the reviews that Sebastian is doing! I love warm, spicy and sweet at the same time scents, so I would love Amour De Cacao!!!
I wish everyone a good luck and great weekend!!!

  • Sebastian is excellent at description in perfumes, and I really enjoyed how Michelyn describes her first foray into gourmands. I would choose Amour de Cacao. Thanks from Oregon/US.

  • Beni Humes Devitt says:

Sebastian is such a trusted voice in the fragrance community. I rely on him for reviews that bring perfume houses, and great fragrances
to my attention. He really educates me in a fun way on all things fragrance I never knew. If I win I’d love to have Vanilla Extreme, sound deliciously amazing!

  • I really enjoyed Sebastian’s take on these three gourmands, especially since he highlighted a house I had not heard of previously. I liked Michelyn’s anecdote about her suggestion for chocolate and vanilla fragrances even though it was shot down at the time. I’d prefer to win Coco Extreme.

  • Natasha Simmons says:

I greatly appreciate your contribution to folks like myself who are now learning love great fragrances

  • Ooooo Vanille extreme and Coco extreme sounds incredible! I enjoyed theses reviews and remember fondly wearing vanilla fields all through my school years! Thank you for the draw, I would adore either one!

  • wallygator88 says:

Thanks for the great review Sebastian and funny introduction Michelyn.

I enjoyed the review. I’ve actually not heard about this house before and find them intriguing. I love the metallic bottles. I’m generally not a fan of fragrances that lean gourmand, but I would be open to trying Vanille Extreme or Coco Extreme – I like the idea of a tropical gourmand and almonds.

Michelyn – you are right about discovering fragrances as a yound adult. I discovered Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, Dior Homme Intense and Mont Blanc Presence, which set me off on a love affair with fragrances

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • Christine Schall says:

I like to know how people get hooked into their particular interests, what inspires them, so I liked Michelyn’s intro describing how the interest in these fragrances started. I also always like Sebastian’s reviews because they are very thorough, but what stuck with me was his description of the milk left in the bottom of the sugary kid’s cereal bowl, and that actually makes me really want to try Vanilla Extreme. It’s hard to choose between all these as a gourmand lover, but because of what Sebastian described, I’d love to win Vanilla Extreme.

  • Michael Prince says:

Michelyn, great introduction. I loved learning about the history of Comptoir Sud Pacifique. I loved learning about how your passion for vanilla in fragrances came and what that fragrance was. It’s hard to believe that gourmand fragrances were unheard of until the 90s. Sebastian review three amazing gourmands from Comptoir Sud Pacifique and I am a huge gourmand fan so I would love all of them. If I win I think I would go with Vanilla Extreme. I am from Ohio, USA.

  • I hadn’t heard of this fragrance company before having watched this review. I don’t have much experience with gourmand fragrances. Sebastian’s review was helpful and Michelyn was, at least somewhat of, a historian in her intro. If I win, then I’d choose “Vanille Extreme” since that one seemed like it might be the best one, to me, of the three. I live in MD., U.S.A.

  • I can totally relate to Michelyn’s words as well as Sebastian’s review. I have been obsessed with this house since I have discovered them in the 90s. I keep hoping they will bring back some of the oldies such as vanille cerise and vanille framboise. Would love to win a bottle of amour de cacao. Btw “dandies” did make a vanilla perfume at one time:)

  • vickalicious says:

I haven’t tried anything from this house and am not very familiar with them, other than knowing they are famous for fantastic gourmands! I really enjoyed Sebastian’s video, and how he broke down each fragrance…honestly they all sound great. I also enjoyed Michelyn’s post… had no idea the house had been around since the 70’s!! Also, she should be credited with Vanilla Fields! 😉 Thanks for the giveaway, I would love to try Coco Extreme…based off of Sebastian’s description that sounds like it would be a favorite! Located in the USA.

  • Sunkissed Peony says:

I searched these fragrances and came across your videos. I am very new to the perfume world and do not own any scents as if yet since I am just learning the scent profiles that I like. Listening to Michelyn and how the company said that no one will buy vanilla or chocolate perfumes, is so shocking because that is what I lean towards too. I loved Sebastian’s review as well and how detailed all the scent notes were (this was a great breakdown for a newbie like me to decide what I like). Honestly, they all sound like scents I would wear…I also found they do a vanille blackberry and a vanille apricot one too, which sounds great as well. I think out of the mentioned ones, I like the coco extreme….all were notes that I love in lotions and candles as well, so I think I would love to start a collection with this! Thank you so much for this opportunity!

  • Sebastian always describes a fragrance in such a clear cut way. I enjoyed reading of Michelyn’s introduction to this line, as well. I’d love to win Vanilla Extreme. Many thanks to Sebastian and Michelyn for a great review and many thanks to Euro Perfumes for making this draw possible. I’m in the USA

  • Trissy Chastain says:

I always enjoy Sabastian’s excellent reviews and descriptions and his thoughtful presentations and Michelyn’s introduction was very nice. I would prefer Amour De Cacao as I love Chocolate scents. Thank you
