Commodity Fragrances Juice Expressive by Olya Bar.
“I really wanted to redefine what a juicy scent is. Juice Expressive centers on succulent, vibrant fruits, but the ingredients I paired them with make this scent unique. Bulgarian Rose and fresh Cyclamen add bloom and breath rather than classic floral facets. Amberwood brings modernity and depth, elevating the idea of juice as we know it. Juice Expressive is an explosive, colorful, unconventional twist on the juicy, fruity fragrance profile.”—Nathalie Benareau of Symrise.

Commodity’s latest release, three years in the making, is a mouthwatering cocktail that arrived just in time for the summer season. Originally founded in 2013, the brand underwent a complete makeover and was reborn under the creative direction of Vicken Arslanian, founder of Europerfumes and owner of Twisted Lily, who relaunched the Commodity brand to new heights as DTC and then in Sephora stores across the US and the world. With engaging ad campaigns and a strong community behind the brand, anticipation for the new fragrance built up fast. After a series of tantalizing teasers, the long-awaited fragrance, Juice, was finally launched.

The brand was brilliantly rebuilt around the innovative concept of Scent Space. This unique idea allows consumers to control their scent’s projection and the space it occupies. Each Commodity fragrance is available in three different Scent Space classifications: Personal, Expressive, and Bold. Each classification is accentuated with different notes to achieve the desired effect, keeping the core DNA but altering the fragrance just enough to give each space its unique facet. The Expressive collection strikes a perfect balance of longevity and projection, making a statement without overpowering any space—noticeable by you and those around you.

You might wonder why it took three years to release a new fragrance. Initially, the team aimed to create a “non-floral floral,” but none of the perfumer submissions quite hit the mark. The search continued until they received a submission from perfumer Nathalie Benareau. Her creation, which was fruit-forward yet had a floral backbone, finally felt right. Commodity Juice was born—a tart and delicious fragrance cocktail bursting with vibrancy and optimism from the first spritz, or rather, sip, as it feels.

Commodity Juice opens with ripe strawberries and sweet raspberry pulp, creating a delicious prelude to Bulgarian rose. The tangy rhubarb adds a slightly green note, while cyclamen provides depth and a touch of acidic piquancy. I’m quite addicted to the fizzy, effervescent effect, which makes this scent feel like a refreshing summer mocktail that you would serve in a sugar-rimmed glass with a splash of sparkling water, some delicious raspberry pulp, and a slice of bright red strawberry for garnish. Its structure shifts between fruity and floral throughout. The dry down reveals a soft, long-lasting trail of skin-like amberwood, that is modern, airy, and warm.

With numerous launches every year from prestige, niche, and indie fragrance houses, only some truly stand out. Commodity Juice Expressive hits every mark, making it the perfect celebration of summer’s bounty; it feels playful and grown-up, modern yet timeless, and, like all good things in life, was well worth the wait.
Notes: Raspberry, Strawberry, Bulgarian Rose, Cyclamen, Rhubarb, Amberwood.
