Celebrity Brad Pitt, the First Man of Fragrance: Chanel No. 5 Perfume Signs Advertising Deal

There have been many celebrity endorsements and advertisments for the iconic CHANEL N°5 perfume over the past few decades. The legendary perfume has showcased its share of glamorous and memorable movie stars including Marilyn Monroe, Catherine Deneuve, Carole Bouquet, Audrey Tatou, and Nicole Kidman. In a surprising announcement,CHANEL N°5. has named the next celeb to appear in their new  world wide  2012 WOMEN's campaign…Brad Pitt.

He is the first male to ever represent the woman's fragrance. (I received  just a link to the announcement  hours ago…but I didn't post it until it was confirmed) and rumor has it that the ad shoot is happening as we speak in London.

What do you think ?

Why not. Is it any different than the sexy girl posing in front of a boat? I’d rather see BP advertising an iconic perfume than Joe Namath shaving his legs, years ago…

  • I think it is high time that someone helped “break the mold” of stereotypical “for Him” and “for Her” labels in the fragrance world…and Brad Pitt is a perfect choice!

Women love him, men love him (for very different reasons, depending on the man! 😉 ) and I think No.5 smells good on anyone!!

Rumours (aka the tabloids) have said Mr. Pitt often smells “musky, but sexy” on the sets of his movies. So again, what is sexier or muskier than No.5!

    Bloody brilliant!!! 😀

  • I just stumbled across your blog thru google and I bookmarked it

I love Chanel no 5 and have worn it for years just not sure if I like the idea of Brad Pitt ‘pitching’ it.
I won’t buy more because of it but I bet a lot of women will

Do not like Pitt with the pitted skin pitching this. I remember him as the fella who never showered and smelled badly……BLAH

  • We are already having a discussion on this in the forums… and I was one of few with a big NO…

IMHO, unless they are going to shave his beard and cut his hair & doll him up… Then don’t even bother… Chanel is too prestigious to have a new image of (BUM) representing their company…

They would be better off putting George Clooney on a Chanel Advertisement…

Someone has went as far to say this style Brad Pitt is sporting is making him look like a run down druggie!

    I say no!

  • Okay, it’s kind of weird since Brad Pitt is the ultimate anti-perfume guy as far as I know. They are gonna have to clean him up! I am sure they are paying him enough so that he can afford some soap and shampoo now…He has never really done anything for me, not my type at all, but I am sure many people will pay more attention because of his involvement.

  • It doesn’t seem like a predictable or sensible match. Perhaps Chanel is up to something we don’t yet know about? Messing with their Brand? I agree with Flora, Joshua, and Full of Grace – it just doesn’t work. Someone like Clooney is classic, traditional, almost formal. Pitt is casual, contemporary, and unkempt (not that there’s anything wrong with that!!!!)

I don’t think any of Chanel’s choices have been too inspiring lately. Can’t they go back to days of Catherine Deneuve and Carole Bouquet…

I agree with John that it is high time that perfume companies break the mold and stop advertising perfumes as gender specific. I would definitely love my man to be wearing no.5 (if he didn’t hate fragrance so much 🙁 !!)

However, Brad Pitt would not have been my first choice for the iconic no.5. As other commenters have stated, Clooney would have been a better pick in my opinion.

  • I too think its novel to approach it this way, but I’m wondering if they are going to use Brad Pitt to sell it to *women*? For instance, showing him being intrigued by the women’s fragrance, rather than wearing it himself?

  • why not. We had women representing men fragrances so why not the contrary?
I remember Kate Moss on Calvin Klein’s Obsession for men, or even Gisele Bundchen on Victoria Secret’s Very Sexy for him.
So probably he might be aspirational…

  • Makes half-scents. At the end of the day, I don’t see this moving Chanel’s needle forward. At it’s not because they are using a man but because he does not appear to be the right man for the job (def not one to even wear fragrance from reports). A PR (eye candy) move for the ladies.
