San Francisco recently hosted our second Salon, and I found some new talent, including Mik, the San Francisco-based perfumer for a new line called MIKMOI. Mik launched his line the day of the Salon, and it was the kind of launch I really appreciate; his Asian-influenced design aesthetics were cohesive and I have to say the perfumes, Ao, Itoh, Aldwych, and Vesper, are delightful.
The new Le Parfum Couture Denis Durand for M. Micallef is one of the very best fragrances M. Micallef has ever released. Mme Micallef and M. Durand are friends and admirers of each other’s creativity; that shared passion led to a particularly harmonious collaboration.
I hold the strip under my nose and am greeted by lemon. As focused and concentrated a lemon as I have ever encountered. For their tenth fragrance, Acqua Decima, Eau D’italie presents their first citrus fragrance and it is as bright as the August sunshine in Positano.
Yves Saint Laurent has always thought outside the box and has released many iconic and classic scents.
In 2011, Diptyque released a fragrance called 34 Boulevard Saint Germain. Designed to remind the wearer of the fragrance one would experience on entering the Paris flagship store. This spring, another version was released, L’Eau du Trente-Quatre, to represent the greener aromas that emerge in the shop when Paris heats up in the summertime.
The most recent perfumer to take on muguet is Jerome Epinette in the new fragrance for Byredo called Inflorescence. In a note he said, Inflorescence is “the interpretation of a muguet, greener, fresher and more stylized than the real one.”
