Hilde Soliani’s latest creation Conaffetto is another example of her skill at coaxing the unexpected out of three notes. Conaffetto was created for the wedding day of a close friend of Sig.ra Soliani. The ingredients in confetti candy, almond and sugar, are two of the three ingredients Sig.ra Soliani uses in Conaffetto. The third ingredient is orange blossom. This seems perfect for a wedding day fragrance.
When I was a teenager and was introduced to my first formal Afternoon Tea Service I was exposed to a gentile custom that asked the participant to take a break and sniff the Earl Grey. The new five fragrance collection from Jo Malone, Tea Fragrance Blends, creates a perfumed tea tray all of its own and while they all stand on their own; when using a couple of them in combination the sum of these fragrant parts really soars.
We are seeing multi-media artists begin to choose fragrance as one of the forms to express their creativity. Hamburg artist Alexa Lixfield produced a collection of three fragrances which did a nice job of expressing her sense of style. Now Reykjavik, Iceland visual artist Andrea Maack also produces a collection of three fragrances and these not only capture Ms. Maack’s artistic aesthetic but also a feel of her country as well.
Most great symphonic pieces are made up of movements usually different in tone and style. Rarely would I apply this analogy to a perfumer but it seems like Mathilde Laurent is composing a perfumed symphony as she works her way around the clock in Cartier Les Heures de Parfums.
I have always admired Robert Piguet Parfums and I have been especially pleased with the care that Aurelien Guichard has used in modernizing the classics. In being able to take Douglas Hannant’s Modern Classicism and translate it into a thoroughly modern fragrance without losing the classicism that is Robert Piguet Parfums he has shown himself to be a perfumer composing at the top of his game.
