Mandy Aftel has been participating in an ongoing series called Letters To A Fellow Perfumer on NathanBranch.com. The latest interchange took place between Ms. Aftel and Laurie Erickson of Sonoma Scent Studio and lead to the creation of Sepia. Through those letters Ms. Aftel spoke of the choices she made to convey the sense of “elegant decay” she was trying to create.
In the case of S01E01 it’s a person who is by nature a risk taker and a great lover of art, has some of the biggest balls and one of the most creative, fearless minds in the industry.
Dawn Spencer Hurwitz has undertaken her second project with the Denver Art Museum. For this latest project Ms. Hurwitz has a more contemporary muse, Yves St. Laurent. The exhibit is called “Yves St. Laurent: The Retrospective” and runs through July 8, 2012 at the Denver Art Museum.
If there is one thing that frustrates me about the avalanche of releases coupled with the exclusivity of some brands is that they make it far too easy to miss something amazing. Prada reminds me of this every time there is a new addition to the Prada Exclusives line. The latest release in this unappreciated line is No. 11 Cuir Styrax.
Most perfume houses would be content with producing one good collection of six perfumes a year. Clearly Xerjoff does not subscribe to that kind of thinking as hard on the heels of the excellent Oud Stars Collection we have another six fragrance collection called Sospiro.
One of the strongest debuts of 2011 was the arrival of the first six fragrances from Phaedon. Phaedon has added two new creations to the original group; Coton Egyptien and Verveine Figuier. The timing of both of these couldn’t be better as both of them will be ideal summer fragrances.
