March 22, 2014 marked CaFleureBon’s 4th anniversary. Laurie Erickson and Michelyn Camen have collaborated on a special floral chypre fragrance named Yin and Ylang to celebrate.
Zelda Fitzgerald was a complicated woman, so creating a fragrance that captured her essence posed many creative challenges. How do I create a perfume that does justice to both the highest and the lowest aspects of her life? A bright beginning, a full heart, and a dark base would be the perfect start.
It’s a concave scent rather than a convex one, not sweet and fruity, but subtle, primitive and introverted. It’s a green scent, in honor of the green ink that Pablo Neruda used to write his poetry, his personal symbol of desire. The color green for him had a very powerful vibration that nutured creativity.
Dawn Spencer Hurwitz created a perfume for EIC Michelyn Camen and CaFleureBon’s first birthday. The visual inspiration she chose was a painting by Toulouse-Lautrec, “Woman With Black Boa” and a black opal and sapphire ring. What struck me about both of these pieces is they are beautiful on a surface level but if you take the time to experience them and live with them a bit there is a whole other level underneath that surface beauty. The name of the fragrance Ms. Hurwitz created was Lautrec.
“Little Black Dress Botanical Perfume” was inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s performance as Holly Go-Lightly inBreakfast at Tiffany’s. I created this natural fragrance JUST for CaFleureBon’s birthday.
