Carner Barcelona Ambar del Sur Review (Yann Vasnier) 2018 + Alahambra Amber Draw

Rodrigo Flores Roux and Yann Vasnier of Givuadan

Ask me  who two of my favorite perfumers are  and inevitably Rodrigo Flores Roux and Yann Vasnier of Givuadan will be at the top of my list. They have different but complementary styles and  are able to transport us through scent to different times and places.

Carner Barcelona Ambar del Sur by Yann Vasnier is one of three new fragrances released by Creative Director Sara Carner from the new 2018 Oriental Collection, (Sr Contributor Marianne Butler’s review of Magalium here) and all pay tribute to al-Andalus of the past.  I have been a fan of Carner Barcelona since I learned of the Spanish brand’s first two scents in 2010–Tardes and D600.

Sebastián s review perfect as usual and Id love to try this one
It appeals the notes and presentation
    Miami Florida Thanks

  • Oriental Amber plus vanilla sounds delicious to me. As always Sebastian knows his frags. I have a bottle of Andy tauer’s Au coeur du desert which is a amber heavy frag so I’d love to smell this different take on amber.

I’m from Montana, USA. Would love to get my nose on this. Cheers

  • Not a big fan of Amber, but like so many of my successful blind buys based off Sabastian’s reviews, I’m super tempted to try this velvety Amber. Sounds perfect for upcoming winter nights here in Virginia.
    Thanks!

  • Another great review from Sebastian. I like how in-depth he goes with his reviews. I’m a big fan of Amber and the patchouli note sounds like an interesting addition. I have not tried any of the Carner Barcelona scents and I wish I would have know about them when I visited Barcelona last year.

  • fazalcheema says:

Rodrigo and Yann are, indeed, very busy and get lot of briefs. I cannot believe Sebastian had never owned a Carner before. Sebastian describes Ambar del Sur as something that is not overwhelming and also has gourmand vibe despite being an oriental. My favorite from Carner is D600. I am in US.

  • Gabriel Garcia says:

    Great review spotlight from. Sebastian.
Carner Barcelona, makes nice stuff that goes in the line of Avant garde.
The amber must be nice here with the creamy Madagascar vanilla.

  • yungcherrypops says:

Sebastian’s review was short, sweet, to the point, but descriptive as usual. Really enjoyed the sample of El Born that I got from Scentbird and love amber fragrances, so would love to give this one a sniff! Alabama, USA.

  • I enjoyed Sebastian’s low-key review and even though he enjoys heavier amber fragrances he liked this one, too.I’ve never tried this house. US

  • michaelprince83 says:

Great Fragrance review Sebastian. I am not familiar with this Fragrance line, but I am always open to discovering new fragrances.

  • farawayspices says:

I have not yet tried a fragrance by Carner Barcelona. I enjoyed Sebastian‘s review of Amber del Sur and particularly appreciated the fact that he said it would be a good fragrance for curling up and relaxing at home, as that is one of my favorite activities. I am in the US.

  • I have never personally experienced any fragrances from the house. Sabastian has a wonderful way of making the fragrances sound edible. Great review as always. I am in Arizona.

  • RobertNicolasB says:

Another great review, Sebastian. I haven’t sampled anything from this house, but I love the description of Amber and Vanilla battling for dominance. I also love patchouli undertones in my amber fragrances!

  • Edward C O'Hearn says:

I always enjoy the detail given in his reviews. The makes me curious and as a result I often go out and test what he reviews.

I love amber fragrances and vanilla, well i love to bake so I am pretty much hooked and will have to test Ambar del Sur. How could I not want to test?

I rarely provide any form of feedback but I’ll shoot him a line and tell him what I think.
Thanks for causing to be interested in fragrance that is new to me

  • I am registered and subscribed to Sebastian and in the USA !

I loved Sebastian’s description of the fragrance and how he talks about the fragrance being appealing and even Delicious !

I Love lily of the valley and this sounds so soft and comforting ! So, thank you for the chance at owning this fragrance !

I bought palo santo and it is so comforting, fancy and special !

  • Just Add Light says:

Absolutely love that wooden cap! The bottle shape even reminds me of the Gucci Pour Homme line. Don’t have a favourite from the brand, but this would easily be in my top 3, along with Cuirs and El Born. Really enjoyed the thoroughness of Sebastian’s description and particularly the part about the fragrance idling between amber and vanilla. Just like him, I’m a big gourmand fan, so this is right up my alley. And as weird as this sounds…I also really like the shirt he’s wearing in this review. Gives the bottle a great backdrop to be showcased properly. LOL NC-USA.

  • Well, water jasmine, tonka, myrrh, and patchouli? Count me in! Sebastian, says it’s cozy and delicious, so I’m going to have to sample this fragrance and this brand. USA

  • Tracy Johns says:

I’m intrigued by Sebastian’s description of a ‘light amber’. I have been exploring the world of fragrance for only 6 months. I’ve enjoyed Sebastian’s channel from the start and always find his reviews thorough and spot on! Georgia

  • I appreciate how Sabastian describes the essence and style of the scent. I have not yet sampled this house, but the review makes me want to them a try.

  • I don’t recall that the winner of the Megalium give-away from back in September was ever announced here… perhaps it was on the Facebook page. I’m not eligible for this draw, but I do like Carner Barcelona fragrances; I must get samples of these three!

  • Sebastian again always comes up great in his reviews. This is no different and I can only imagine what a Balsamic Amber fragrance made by a very good house must smell like. Thanks from the great USA

  • Great review. I appreciate Sabastian’s style. Planning to explore this house further. Cheers!

  • I have only tried Rima XI from this house. I liked how Sebastian said it kind of mutated on his skin and was sometimes vanilla and sometimes other notes. It sounds complex and interesting. i am an amber lover, too.

  • Lillyhollowayblog says:

Lovelovelove the house of Carner Barcelona. I have El Born and Tardes. Everything I have sniffed is fabulous. US resident.

  • Sebastian can do no wrong by me. A fresher take on amber while still unmistakably amber, sounds great. I’m a big tonka bean fan and I hope that it help round out the vanilla in this scent. Patchouli is a great addition here I think. Without it might be too sweet. Great review Sebastian.

  • I love ambers. Have several. Sebastian mentions that this is not over powering and gets into gourmand territory. Both pluses. He made this sound utterly delicious. The only CB frag I’ve tried is D600 which is a wonderful blend with a prominent iris note. Love it.

  • Like Sebastian, I love amber fragrances. That’s what I loved about Sebastian’s review; I know he knows his amber scents, so if he recommends it, I want to try it. I want to see for myself what Sebastian means when he describes this as lighter and perfect for autumn. I’d love a chance to win Ambar del Sur. I own two fragrances from Carner Barcelona; El Born and Rose & Dragon. My favorite from them is El Born. Thanks to everyone making this giveaway possible!

  • I recently fell in love with Megalium from this collection. Sebastian’s description of this as a sweet and less intense amber sounds great. I, too, really enjoy amber fragrances.

  • I loved Sebastian’s description of how this is a lighter, less intense amber than the usual amber fragrance. I do like Carner Barcelona:Tardes, D600, El Born, and Palo Santo. Thanks for doing this!

  • Hello!

I loved Sebastian’s reviews like always. I like the way he describes the different notes through the stages of the dry down. El Born is my fave Carner Barcelona fragrance. Since Sebastian mention how vanilla -ish this one can be too he def captured my interest. But for now El Born is still my favorite and is the next bottle of perfume I plan to buy.

  • I loved that Sebastian talked about how on him this fragrance is sometimes a vanilla fragrance and sometimes a amber scent, I would love to see how it would interact with my skin in the cold weather and it seems to be a good cold weather scent as Sebastian stated! I do not have any favorite scents from this house, this is the first time I have heard of this house but I am looking forward to sampling some of their creations! I live in the USA

  • I love Sebastian’s reviews.
As I understand in this perfume amber are not so intense, owerhelning, but very beautiful, cozy, relaxing.
    I like ambery perfumes.
From Carner Barcelona I like D600.
    US

  • Daniel Bourne says:

Another great review by the King of Cologne, Sebastian. I would love to win this bottle. I love amber and never win anything so I deserve this! Maine, USA

  • Sebastian’s reviews are by far some of the finest out there on youtube. He really delves into the fragrances and I love the emphasis on how the amber is from the southern portion of Spain so it’s a little lighter. As a huge amber fan would be absolutely thrilled to add this to my collection. It’s an exciting new addition to a solid house that had a major hit with El Born. I also like D600 quite a lot. In Florida, USA.

  • I would love a winter amber with vanilla added. I’m familiar with D600 from this house and like it a lot. US

  • Sebastian’s reviews are so great! I am not familiar with this brand and would love to try. Lovely Amber and beautiful. Sounds perfect. I live in the US.

  • I love carner Barcelona and trades and rima are favorites as well as Palo santo
Sebastian did a nice review light amber but knowing Yann vas jer was the perfumer makes me want it more

  • This one must be really nice, great description from Sebastian. I’ve tested Cuirs and D600, both great scents, a quality house for sure. I would love to try it, thanks for the chance. Oakland US.

  • I love Sebastian’s reviews! I’ve never smelled anything by Carner Barcelona. But this fragrance has notes in it that I love, like Myrrh and Madegascar vanilla. It sounds so beautiful!
    I live in the USA.

  • As always, your videos are amazing, dear Sebastian.
This perfume sounds very beautiful: I like gourmand perfumes, all the more so amber, but I guess I will fall in love with this perfume because, as Sebastian said, gourmand side of this perfume is balanced by patchouli.
    I like Carner Barcelona Cuirs.
Thank you, Michelyn and Europerfumes for this draw.
    US

  • I’ve honestly have never heard of this house. I love Sebastian’s vlog because we always introduces me to things I’ve never heard of. As an amber fan myself, this sounds lovely especially since it’s light. The bottle presentation is great too. I’m located in Texas USA. This would be great to use in texas autumn and spring nights.
    Thanks

  • Carner Barcelona is on of my favorites! I own D600 and Palo Santo. I fell in love with Rima XL but don’t own it yet and I’m looking forward to discovering many others from the entire line along with Ambar Del Sur because it’s right up my alley! What I love most about Sebastians review and this does for all of them is the fact that he leaves no stone unturned, he goes I to great detail about the fragrance. He doesn’t ever leave me longing for more other than me wanting to sample the fragrance or buy it lol. All in all, his reviews including this one are extremely fullfilling.

  • I do not currently own any Carner Barcelona fragrances but I recently tried them and enjoyed Palo Santo as well as Rose & Dragon. I tend to like Sebastian’s suggestions especially when it comes to this genre of fragrances. The fact that he said it is a little sweeter than most ambers let me know if would be something I would like. U.S.
    Thank you,

  • Really enjoyed that Sebastian is diving into this house. I don’t see much discussion about it in the community, but I have been interested in what people think. Hope this video helps to get the conversation going. I am also interested to give this one a try!

  • doowtnehpets says:

I enjoyed Sebastian’s description of the fragrance. Sounds good with the vanilla. Never tried any from the house.

  • Great review by Sebastian and I still need to explore the House of Carner Barcelona. This fragrance sounds really good. It’ll go great on cold days. Hope to check it out and more. Thanks for the giveaway. U.S

  • middleagedandmixed says:

What I liked about Sebastian’s review is hearing how he describes this fragrance as an amber on the verge of being a gourmand. I’m intrigued by this oriental amber fragrance. I’ve heard of Carner Barcelona but have yet to try this house. Thanks!

  • Monica Beaton says:

I so enjoy Sebastian’s reviews – always entertaining and informative. And amber and vanilla? Yes please!

  • I looking forward to vet me nose on this. Sebastian’s review leaves me the impression that Amber Del Sur is uniquely complex bc of the play between the vanilla and amber while remaining comfortable. Yeah, I definitely want to get my nose on this. California

  • I loved how Sebastian showed how similar and different ADS is to typical amber fare. I have a sample of El Born and the scent is amazing, ambitious and shows a self-assured hand with vanilla. Amber and vanilla, YUM!
Southern California and thank you very much for the giveaway!

    Cheers ~ Jack

  • Every time i’m watching a new review by Sebastian i’m afraid for my wallet-my CC is like “not again”.Sampled and bought so much fragrances because of him.
All 3 from the new Oriental Collection sound great , plus Rodrigo Flores-Roux is one of my favorite noses , so i’m intrigued.
Semi-sweet spicy and balsamic fragrance perfect for a fall cozy evening , a bit resinous in the base i love.
The only fragrance that i own from Carner Barcelona is 100ml of Palo Santo.
    Tnx for the generosity
    Cheers from VA

  • I really enjoyed the emphasis on amber. It’s not a note that I recall being highlighted as much in any other review. I dont currently have an amber based fragrance nor can i recall smelling one. This is also my first introduction to this house.

  • I like how Sebastian goes into the notes and explains all of them, I don’t have any carner Barcelona and I’m hoping I would win this
    I’m from CA, USA

  • I loved his review because like most of them they take me to an exotic place, like your site and I can imagine the delicious fragrance.

  • I don’t have any Carner favorite Barcelona perfume. Even though he’s not so familiar with this, Sebastian was able to describe the perfume perfectly and one can imagine what it feels like as an oriental Amber fragrance. It’s always a pleasure watching his reviews.
    I live in California.

  • I don’t have a favorite carner Barcelona fragrance, but I believe they have an orange blossom I would love to try, along with Palo Santo. Sebastian’s review made me want to try this scent, and I do like oriental scents. Thank you for the draw, as ever. I’m in the us.

  • I haven’t tried anything from Carner Barcelona but I am really interested in their offerings. El born is at the top of my sample list I hear it’s a vanilla to die for but this sounds good too I can always go for a good amber. I love the presentation on their fragrances. Thank you for the great review and keep up the good work I hope to see more from sebastian on your site. I am in the USA in AZ.

  • I liked how Sebastian describes it as a light, almost gourmand amber. I love amber and often appreciate how it smells in heavier doses, such as Profumum Roma’s Ambra Aurea, but it tends to overwhelm me to the point where I prefer to sniff the bottle than wear it on skin & have it consume my thoughts all day long. That’s why I like A Lab on Fire’s My Own Private Teahupoo – it’s an amber that I can even wear in summer. In my small fragrance collection I own a big bottle of El Born – it was love at first sniff. I’d love to try more from the house. Thanks so much from Cleveland Ohio!

  • I enjoy Sebastian every time. Probably the best informative reviewer for my taste. He really goes into detail about the smell and composition. The only one i have tried was El Born and it was fantastic.

  • I as always love the in depth descriptive review that Sebastian gave. I’m a big fan of amber and vanilla. This one sounds wonderful just on the edge of gourmand. I’m not familiar with this house.
    Fort Lauderdale, Fl

  • There seems to be a trend of perfumes evoking places or historical sites. Alhambra is magnificent. Would love to try this. In the US

  • Lovely photo from Alhambra. I love amber perfumes, although I am not sure I ever tried a “light” one. I’d be curious to smell this one, especially I am not familiar with others from this brand.

  • It’s obvious from Sebastian’s review that he likes it, and I am happy this is how he decided to open his reviews to Carner, which is a fantastic house. I also appreciate that a lot of the ingredients he lists have their source associated with them- this completes the picture, somehow, of this cosy fragrance.
I’m all in, and as always I’ll make sure to pass it forward should I be so lucky to win.
    Oakland, CA

  • Another great review by Sebastian! This Amber sounds perfect as all of my amber fragrances smell the same. I love that Sebastian stated that sometimes it smells like amber and sometimes it smells like vanilla. I like a few fragrances from this house. I live in the US and thanks for the draw! 🙂

  • Sebastian new to Carner Barcelona? A bit odd …
Rodrigo Flores-Roux is one of the best perfumers out there , but Yann Vasnier made my all time favorite fragrance -Plum Japonais by Tom Ford,so i have high expectations for Ambar Del Sur
Almost gourmand teritory – i’m not surprised one bit , because i do follow Yann Vasnier’s work , and i know he do have a sweet tooth. He really likes sweet-boozie – Anima Dulcis , Hayati , Le Quatrieme , Gourmandises by Keiko Mecheri and so on.
Notes are nice, perfumer i love , house of Carner Barcelona too , some high praises-i will most definitely sample Ambar Del Sur.
D600 is the best one from Carner Barcelona from the ones i’ve smelled-to me at least. My girlfriend loves it on me-bought me a bottle.I do like Palo Santo too , but performance is not good on my skin…at all.Oh’ – my D600 is full bottle and Palo Santo is 10ml decant.
I do follow @cafleurebon @carnerbarcelona @manlovescologne on Instagram . and i also follow @rodrigofloresroux and of course the man himself @yannnv
    Thank you for this draw.
    USA

  • What I liked about the review was that the patchouli stops the fragrance from getting too sweet. But since patchouli can be sort of chocolaty and boozy, it sounds very decadent with vanilla and amber.
I’ve never tried any from this house.
Im in the US. thanks for the draw.

  • Always love Sebastian’s reviews. It was interesting to hear that it wasn’t a sweet Amber yet the fragrance still ran slightly gourmand. Sounds lovely. I haven’t tried anything by this house before. I live in the USA. thanks!

  • Sebastian is one of my favorite reviewers. He has an ability to describe and make you imagine a scent like no other. And you can feel his passion for perfumery. Right now I only know Botafumeiro from Carner Barcelona and really enjoy that incense.
I’m at the USA. Thanks 🙂
