CaFleureBon’s Scents of Seduction + “I Will Always Love You” 14 Fragrances Draw

When we think of famous lovers, who come to mind?  Is it Cleopatra (the VII)? Is it Giacomo Girolamo Casanova de Seingalt? One almost brought down the Roman Empire and the other’s name has become synonymous with the art of seduction.

Our images of them is most likely the cinematic portrayal of the handsome Heath Ledger and the beautiful Elizabeth Taylor, she of the violet eyes. History has turned Cleopatra into a beauty and Casanova into a man whose looks suited his reputation.  The truth is that they were not particularly attractive, and in their day both were considered the equivalent of “fugly” So was it their charms, powers, sensual talents that was responsible for their notoriety. At www.cafleurebon.com we believe it was perfume that brought their paramours to their knees.

Scents of seduction are deeply personal. They are enhanced by our chemistry and are powerful methods of communication… and after a time, we become aware that a certain fragrance garners the most compliments, from our significant others and strangers (of both sexes).

Sergey  Borisov, Contributor: Seduction Scent? Well, I remember Egoiste de Chanel made me feel handsome in the 90`s ( I`m not sure whether  the girls around  me thought the same… 🙂 Right now my Holy Graal of Seduction is Eau Noire by Christian Dior. That smooth movement, that Delicate song by Terence Trent d`Arby, that sensual lavender-thyme-cedar-immortelle beast, that furry Black TomCat.  I just feel myself oriental, with Eau Noire. And my Dear Wife adores this scent too. Should I say THANKYOU to  Francis Kurkdjian  right here and right now? THANKISSIMO

Liza Wade, Contributor: If you want to bring sexy back this Valentine’s Day then look no further than Back to Black Aphrodisiac by Kilan. A unisex sweet tobacco scent, the focus is on the sweeter side of the genre rather than the customary leather component. Buyer bewares! Rather than being a traditional aphrodisiac –or scent of seduction— it offers the inverse. You actually smell like you’ve just HAD sex! The honey and saffron mesh with the other earthier notes to smell vaguely reminiscent of, shall we say, the singular smells of the nether regions. ‘Eau de Tryst’,anyone? There is nothing sexier than someone fresh from a romp in the hay. (La nez: Calice Becker)

Ida Meister, Sr. Editor and Natural Fragrance Editor: Mitsouko de Guerlain

Small wonder that Mitsouko is my desert island ‘elisir d’amore’. We go back a loooong way, Mitsouko and I. I broke my piggybank to purchase my first bottle; I couldn’t have been much past my 11th birthday.

All my lovers, my first husband- would enter a library, any room at all –And know, without a doubt that I had recently been there. Nostrils quivered approvingly in my scented wake.

I don’t think it was because of beauty; I think I smelled marvelous.

Period.

DH met me 28 years ago, during a blizzard, in Harvard Square.- at the now-defunct Coffee Connection.I was carrying one helluvalot of groceries, wearing knee-length hair, English riding boots, a very tiny red charmeuse camisole. And LOTS of vintage Mitsouko. I don’t think the Mitsouko hurt any. I wore it [a few short months later!] at our wedding.

Our sons associate me with Mitsouko; when I had to leave them for any length of time, I would tuck a nightgown scented with it in their crib. It seemed to soothe them. And not too long ago, I gave our sons each a small bottle of Mitsouko to have—Just in case times got tough, they’d always have me there.

Such is the power of perfume

Vanessa Musson, Contributor: My other half hates perfume, so in view of this unfortunate olfacto-marital dynamic, I will pick the aptly named Rykiel Woman Not For Men!  If I was to deploy it as a pulling scent (hypothetically, obviously), it has every base covered in terms of what men might find alluring: it’s a sweetish, creamy, softly spicy, floral-leather-musky-amber number.  With dates, which augurs well!  Yes, as seductive scents go, it is the ultimate bet hedger.  But this Valentine’s, as ever, it’ll be a case of “sisters spraying it for themselves”.

Emmanuelle Varron, Contributor: CARNAL FLOWER

« My darling, you’re so beautiful when you laugh.

I remember the first time we met, and your smile that trapped me.

I’m dying now to smell your perfume again, that Carnal Flower that cuddles the hollow of your neck.

I’ll put my lips on its sweetest point… burning them.

Je t’aime… »

Claudia Kroyer, Contributor: “What is that you are wearing?" is a familiar phrase when I leave my home  wafting Montale Red Aoud. There is something so compellingly beautiful about this fragrance that I fully understand why people comment on this compelling scent every time I wear it. One man admired Red Aoud so much he stopped me while I was shopping at Barnes & Nobles Bookstore and asked me to write down the name of the fragrance and where to buy it. He wanted his wife to smell just like me! Now that is a wonderful compliment”.

Mark Behnke, Managing Editor: If I ever needed any confirmation about why aquatics are so popular I get it every time I wear Davidoff Cool Water. Of any fragrance I own it is when I wear Pierre Bourdon’s groundbreaking masterpiece that I get the most unsolicited compliments. From College co-eds to fashionistas at the mall every kind of woman have told me “You smell good,” when I’m in Cool Water.

Donna Hathaway, Contributor. What is the point of seduction if it does not involve the mind as well? Caron’s Parfum Sacré has a subliminal effect; the object of one’s attention is not quite sure why he is so irresistibly drawn to you, as it is not an overtly “sexy” perfume, being quite civilized on the surface, but it exerts its subtle power in deep undercurrents as the willing victim is entranced, never fully knowing what happened to him until the spell is cast.

Michelyn Camen, Editor-In-Chief: Mon Parfum by Martine Micallef is truly ‘mon parfum”. Although it was created by Mme Micallef for herself  it was her husband M. Nejman  who urged her to share her signature scent with the world. What havoc wafts wherever I go in New York City. From doormen to policemen, women at Bergdorf Goodman's to women on the bus, I hear whispers  “who’s that girl.”

That is Seduction- when a perfume reflects who you really are. Mon Parfum expresses much about my personality… very feminine,  a bit showy (François Duquesne nicknamed me La Flamboyante after a breakfast at Rue 57 in N.Y.C.), kind, (but told that I am a bit brittle). It is my mirror- evoking both vulnerability and self-confidence. All my favorite notes are in Mon Parfum, which is why it is sings “Born this way” on my skin!  I am Ga-Ga over mandarin and orange blossom in the top notes; vetiver, vanilla and passion fruit in the heart notes; patchouli, Musk and caramel in the base notes.

  • OMG I will swoon 😛

I guess my scent of seduction is my own, Kama perfume…of which my recovering from cancer husband said when he first smelled it on my neck:  "It smells like I want to stare at you across the table during dinner, and enjoy you later…"  It was truly unfortunate that the children were still awake 😀

  • My! What a generous draw! What I like most is the fact that you make us think and elaborate before posting.
If I had to choose one, it would be my vintage Shalimar extrait with its sweet voluptuousness or the beautiful Chamade. They both make me feel relaxed and confident, and isn't seduction all about that? Years ago, my secret weapon used to be YSL Nu, which never ever failed.
I am intrigued about Parfum Sacré (as I love roses and spices) and about the Micallef.

    Happy Valentine everyone!

  • Fun Fun Fun…amazing to hear compliments when you wear a special fragrance. This is a fabulous and fun write up and some awesome fragrances to be given away. Good Luck to all.

  • For me, Bal a Versailles! It is dangerous!
Red Aoud and Parfum Sacre were also on my slist as well! Happy Heart Day all!

  • Carlos Powell says:

Love this! Happy Valentine's Day! Scent of seduction, well Tom Ford Black Orchid always works for me!

  • My scent of seduction is Rance's Le Vainqueur – a vastly underrated scent, and one that makes my wife purrrrrr!

  • Excellent list! Since I just bought Carnal Flower and find it extremely seductive, it gets my top vote. I have nobody to seduce!! 🙁 Working on it, though, and I will be wearing CF, hopefully. Although he did tell me I smelled good when I was wearing Eau Premiere.
Grammys just started here on the West Coast – I have finally reached the point in life of hardly knowing who any of these people are any more. Still fun to watch – many times I have discovered someone new to listen to from the Grammy show.

  • My scent of seduction would have to be Penhaligon's Cornubia – the vanilla dry down is just delicious and I always get compliments 🙂

  • Yes, a beautiful list … Happy Valentine's Day … Celebrate Love in every way.  Today.  Everyday.  Our great loves, our beloved fragrances, always there when we need them to be … we are so fortunate to have this passion.  I was married in Daim Blond.  Among all others, this was the one I chose … it had everything I knew to be the essence of a perfect scent for who I was at the time.  I've changed.  Fragrances grow and evolve right along with us … continue to grow … Get yourself a new fragrance today if no one else does!!  xoxo

  • Michelle Hunt says:

Loved reading this post.  Ida Meister's mention of the Coffee Connection in Harvard Square brought back fond memories for me….it is in Harvard Square that I spent many an hour sniffing hard to find perfumes at Coloniel Drug store….so much fun, though I do believe the staff thought I was crazy, the number of hours smelling and sampling.  And Harnett's was there too (now gone).  It is there that I first started my love affair with natural essential oils and absolutes.  How exciting it was to first smell the creamy, smooth, and wonderful aroma of natural tuberose absolute.  And how excited I was when a tiny, precious bottle was purchased for me as a gift….ah, fond memories.  The delight I felt when I came upon a basket of small bottles from Original Swiss Aromatics marked down to mere dollars is something I remember to this day.
I would love to be entered in the draw.

  • I loved your stories. 🙂
My perfume for seduction is Amouage Lyric (and it works). 😉
I didn't watch Grammies, I need to go check who won what but I'm glad Dolly got the Lifetime Award.

  • This is a very charming article. I liked reading it, in this rainy Valentine's here. I think that my perfume for seduction has to be Opium, the vintage formula from the 80s. It has a power in itself that has given me many beautiful surprises. But also i have to add the nude skin waking up in the morning, has a special, sweet scent that I have been told about. I can't say i smell it, but others do. Happy Valentine's Darlings!

  • Thank you very much for this wonderful multi-draw! I'm very excited! 🙂
My perfume for seduction is État libre d'Orange Nombril Immense. I notice that my boyfriend loves soft, woody patchouli on me. And By Kilian Back to Black works in romantic moments too. I think that the mix of chamomile and honey is like a magic potion!
Please, enter me in the draw and thank you again to Çafleurebon team.

  • For me, musk scents have always signified seduction. Back in the day, it would have been Coty Wild Musk or Vanilla Musk. My choice these days would be Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur. And please enter me in the draw…I can't believe I haven't smelled Carnal Flower or any of the Montale Ouds yet!

  • I only recently discovered a scent that I feel is "me" and thus my chosen scent of seduction – Attrape Coeur.  This one has truly captured my heart.  I'd wear it every day if I wasn't such a traitor and owned so many other perfumes.  But often, with other scents, I like them, but they just don't bring the same satisfaction as AC…ahhhhhh.  So nice.

  • My scent of seduction is Tom Ford's Black Orchid. It truly seems to seduce practically everyone who happens to be around when I wear it..

  • Ida- love your story… thank you for sharing this.  And giving a little bottle to your sons is extremely touching.  Scent can cross a million miles and step through time in a millisecond.  I also deeply love Mitsouko,.  Happy Valentine's day to all!  xoxo

  • Oh, not so much seduction going on around here on Valentine's Day. 🙁 But if I was in that game, Ysatis has always worked for me in the past. And I can easily be seduced by FM Noir Epices.

  • My husband and I are newlyweds, and we are currently living apart because he got an incredible job in another state, and I haven't found a job there yet. It's our first valentine's day since getting married, and we are apart, but I'm lucky because I get to see him this weekend!
Scent of Seduction: At our new rental in his city, we have a huge bathtub, and I really love to take a bath using the Ormonde Jayne Ta'if Bath Oil. This stuff is amazing: complex, sexy, seductive, beautiful and lasts on skin for HOURS after a bath. I recommend it to everyone (along with all the Ormonde Jayne's). I also really love Musc Ravageur (for me or him), Cuir de Russie (for me or him), Bigarade Concentree (on him), and surprisingly Marc Jacob's Bang (on him).
I've never tried the Micallef, but I am dying to try that one!!  Happy valentine's day everyone!!

  • I miss that Coffee Connection in the Crimson Galleria. I can smell the place when I think of it…
Although I didn't intend it as such, my scent of seduction turns out to be Les Nereides Patchouli Empire. My husband really loved it the first time I wore it.

  • Ida, I love your blizzard love story!
I wear L'Artisan Parfumeur Al Oudh when I have seduction on my mind (my husband, who is not too fond of fragrance, commented he doesn't "mind" Al Oudh, so perhaps it will work its magic on him someday!)
Years ago, I was seduced by a lovely man who wore Chanel Egoiste. While the memories of our time together have faded, I always remember him when I wear Egoiste.

  • So many seduction scents. Most of all the fragrances that feel like they express aspects of my personality when I wear them are the best seduction scents: Rose Barbare, Musc Ravageur, Ta'if among others. However when I think of a sexy scent, its a vintage Tabac Blond. Sultry, sexy and with one purpose!

  • My scent of seduction varies but it needs to make me feel warm and comfortable. Today I think it will be Alahine.

  • Parfum Sacre is afavortie of mine, I've only had a small decant and although I tried to make it last, I was not able I loved it so much!

  • This one is easy. My "how YOU doin'?" scent is Black Cashmere. I was spending a Saturday afternoon last summer in Holt Renfrew with the DH, smelling and deciding which 4 fragrances would get some skin that day. I didn't realize just how much of an effect BC had on my other half until we got to the <ahem> deserted parking garage where he asked to smell it again…. I'd never heard my husband growl over a fragrance before. 😉 He says it smells like me amped up just a bit.

  • One husband gets weak in the knees when he smells vintage Cabochard because it reminds him of the early days of our relationship (it seems I must keep myself supplied with this). The modern fragrance that makes him swoon is Ormonde Jayne Tolu (I seem to smell great in almost all her fragrances because they garner many compliments from others as well).

And, oh, the Coffee Connection in Harvard Square. I used to live in Cambridge and still visit once a year. How I still miss that place! Remember the best-ever gingerbread (so dark) and the French Press Coffee? And for that matter, the array of real perfumes set out on display in alphabetical order at Colonial Drugs? That's where I did my perfume research when I was looking for the perfect fragrance.

  • It comes down to two…Vintage Magie Noire, and I've never met one man who didn't love this, whereas I loved the effect it had – and still has!
And I have to say it, simply because it works for me like Aphrodite's belt or Freya's necklace…Ambre Sultan. They fall prey like so many fruit flies…;-)

  • I would say Shalimar is mine, but my husband is anosmic so I have no idea if it has any effect.  Let's just say that's the one I would try if I were in that situation.

  • What lovely stories!  (Am enjoying the comments, too.)
I love Parfum Sacre and Carnal Flower, but my favorite scent for the kind of personal encounter my husband is likely to cherish is Juliette Has a Gun Citizen Queen.  I'm not sure what it is about CQ – the girly aldehydes, the rose-violet, the suede? – but it beckons.  "Come closer… closer still… and kiss me."

  • I was seduced and seducing with Mystere de Rochas.
Maybe it was the right fragrance for the correct age.
When I met Mystere was an adult and young woman,
aware of  femininity, the power of seduction of a beautiful fragrance.
It was the perfect marriage between  strong and  impressive scent, with
the skin of a woman in the fullness of womanhood.
Now use many perfumes  to replace the one Mystere.

  • My scent of seduction is Prada L'Eau Ambree.  The ethereal smoke and vanillic amber are both enticing and mysterious, and well enjoyed by my fiance.  Thank you for the giveaway and Happy Valentine's Day to all!

  • Anna in Edinburgh says:

Hooray for Dolly Parton – she gets me every time with what she calls her "pitiful" songs, the ones that have me blinking moisture from my eyes. (Coat of Many Colors, I'm thinking of you right now!)
sniffle, sniffle … even the thought of her songs works!

  • I love Parfum Sacre  and my husband loves it as well. Though my scent of the day will be
Rykiel women not for men since it is a close to the skin scent and I have to work today. Thanks for the draw and the list of seductive perfumes, though since I am married for 27 years, I may not need them.

  • My pick would be Coromandel.  I get more compliments on this scent than any other I own.  Your article was great!  Thanks.

  • I would say Coromandel since I get more compliments on this scent than any other. Thanks for the drawing and your wonderful post.

  • I loved reading all of these picks for scents of seduction.  Perfume in general is sensual and seductive, don't you think? Out of the fragrances my husband wears, I like him in Coromandel the best – it smells amazing on him. His favorites on me are Mitsouko, Bvlgari Jasmine Noir and of all things – Daisy.  Yep that's right – Daisy.  He wants to have me for a snack when I wear Daisy.  Go figure.  Thank you all for this generous, desirable givaway opportunity!  ~Victoria

  • My fragrance of love is Vetiver Tonka from Hermes – DH absolutely loves that one. As for the Grammys, I was excited when my favorite band Arcade Fire won. I've almost worn out my cd.

  • What a fun article! My personal sexy scent would probably be The Party in Manhattan. Another shout out to The Arcade Fire, one of my favorite indie groups. YAY!

  • Loved this read! My seduction scent vintage Magie Noir…. I loved reading each of the picks. Grammys were great. I have become a fan of Bruno Mars… My grandkids say way to go.

  • Kathy T and Sandi- great scents of seduction… Yes the grammys were fun and filled with surprises. Pour christine Aguillera twice in a week with mishaps, Loved the tribute to ‘Jolene’ Norah Jones was on fire…. Couldn’t call the draw jolene… obviously its about the other woman who probally wore a scent of seduction, but I didn’t think anyone would ge the connection 🙂

  • The scent of seduction to me is my husband wearing Lalique's Encre Noire. It's so incredibly deep and smoky on him, it makes me swoon every time. I loved reading all the comments!

  • For me the scent of seduction is Mazzolari Lui, I think is amazing and my wife thinks the same too. And is the only animalic scent that works with my skin chemistry.

  • My scent of seduction is," Orchidee Vanille", Van Cleef & Arpels. This sexy, spicey scent is allureing and hypnotic..

  • Will have to catch the Grammies tonight.   Dolly will probably be the most genuine, heartfelt one to be there.  Waddaya think?  Please enter me.  Oh, and Passion by AG is a killer..Thank you.

  • Seduction, love, what is sexy may have it basis in some genetic preferment, but that is only a part of the story.  We see what we want to see in a person we love.  Bur perfume…it is difficult to pick a perfume to please someone else when really all you've done is pick it to please yourself.  Still I would go with vintage Coco.  Not the new stuff.  But the lush vintage.  Don't bother to pick out the various ingredients in it–what's sexy out dissecting something to pieces.  Just wear enjoy and be carried away.

PS..Lady GaGa's performance art is getting to be a little 'much' for me.  I had been enjoying it greatly. But last night she reminded me of the missing link between a small flying dinosaur and robin.

  • I loved the variety in this article. Hmmm… my husband seems to love me in most everything, but if my goal was seduction plain and simple, I think I'd choose Neil Morris Midnight Tryst. Wowee zowee!!!

  • My scent of seduction is Guerlain's Spirituese Double Vanille.  That boozy, smoky vanilla my DH loves,,,and get compliments every time I wear it! (not only from him) !!!
I love this blog every day!!  How nice to also have our resident perfumistas contributing to our perfume entertainment!!

  • My scent of seduction – back in the day when I was doing that sort of thing – was a cheapie from Yves Rocher: Venice. A lovely rose (yes, friends, *rose*), currant, spices, a vaguely smoky vanilla at the base. Sort of Addict with a plunging neckline, fancy knickers,  who's very good at tossing her hair. The best part was that I would also wear it when I was reading at the daycare center. You know you have a winner when 4 and 5 year old boys want to snuggle (and they're so much easier to reason with!)
These days Field Notes is getting a lot of notice. I'm not sure about an instrument of seduction though. At my age, it just sounds like plainly too much work.
Ida – I love the idea of a scented something for times of need.

  • For seduction, I suppose I go with the default:  Ormonde Woman.  If I smell like myself to myself, I'm bound to smell at least that good to most others.  Several friends have told me, "No one smells like you."  No one smells like anyone else . . .

  • Loving all these comments! And thanks, Isa, for the thumbs up on Back to Black by Kilian Aphrodisiac. Love the Mrs. Robinson feel of the jaded, after-sex cigarette mingled with the eagerness of the younger lover for more. Of course, it was difficult for all the writers to single out just one scent of seduction. I nodded my head in agreement when I saw mention of Amouge Lyric, Carnal Flower, Parfum Sacre, and Bvlgari Jasmne Noir. And the list does go on…

  • my smell of seduction — hm — i cannot comment on that without becoming somewhat  pornographic, alas.
but go conjecture at your leisure — you won't be far off 🙂

    hh

  • Looking at seduction from the opposite perpspective — if he's wearing Aramis I'll follow him anywhere.

  • My DH is attracteed to Badgley Mischka parfum – not even one of my favorites.
Grammies were OK – love to see the gowns.

  • So this was a fun article to read…..My go to scent is Amouage Lyric. This is the scent of seduction in my opinion. Would love to be in the draw!!

  • ok, thought of something (both ways):
for him: — serge lutens fille en aiguilles (mmm, resin-dripping pine-trees)
for me — cbihp patchouli empire (ditto, only drier and more musky.)
ok, i admit it: what i really want is a coniferous lover.

  • Seduction… I will go the other way around. I prefer to use something that would seduce me so the rest is simple. If I feel I love myself I can charm everybody else. 🙂
Vanilla- tonka – ambery (maybe some incenses ) scents are my first choice. Tuberoses second.
And Mitsouko and Memoir Woman.  :))

  • I love Dolly Parton. As for my scent of seduction, I went with Agent Provocateur for Valentine's Day. And red underthings!

  • Sooo easy! My husband adores Shalimar. Seduction is a cinch, once I decide which version to choose (usually vintage).

  • Echoing a comment above, I'd rather be seduced than be the seducer.  One of my Valentine's Day presents to my husband was MCMC's Hunter, which I find quite irresistible this time of year.  Sweet smoke and balsam fir.

  • I have to admit that I have no seduction scent…
I am intrigued by Mon Parfum, I will have to revisit Back to Black to find what I missed before, I would love to try Parfum Sacre even though they say that it's not the same any more.  Carnal Flower will not work for me, I believe, because tuberose is not my word for love in flowers language, and I can't even start imagining what Red Oud smells like.
But I love perfume, and I love cafleurbon! 🙂

  • Two of my top ten are listed here: Carnal Flower and Back to Black make my world spin.  I also love Musc Ravageur, MKK, Spiriteuse Double Vanilla, Richwood, and Tuberose Animale.  I love sensual, animalic scents, and probably kill those around me with over-application.
As far as the Grammys are concerned, I think it would shock people more if artists went against type instead of becoming characatures of themselves.
Please enter me in the draw.
    Thank you,
    Geordan

  • Coromandel is my current seduction scent.  It smells like both a masculine and a feminine, like a man and a woman each wearing perfume have been making out  on the couch.   I sure feel like a knock-out wearing it and it seems like projecting sexiness from within is a large part of the equation.

  • In our house there is no such thing as a seduction scent! Sadly, my husband doesn't much like scents in any form so not only does he not wear fragrance, he'd prefer I not either. But he's quite tolerant when I'm scented so I spray carefully.

I'd love to smell Dior Homme or Bang on him, but know better than to even try!

  • I really wanted to enter into the drawing so for the last couple of days I was thinking on the topic. I give up: I cannot think of a single fragrance in my rather big collection that I can characterize as seductive – I do not know why. But I can name at least one perfume I do not wear myself but consider to be very sexy and seductive on my SO – Terre d'Hermes.

  • These are all great choices – I too love Red Aoud, though I admit I never saw it as seductive! LIkewise for Carnal Flower, despite its name. My come-hither scent is Musc Ravageur, but Theo Fennel Scent also makes me feel seductive. I have never tried Mon Parfum, but I love M. Micallef's ouds, and I'd love to try this. Thanks!

  • taffynfontana says:

Seductive scents have to be anything that allows you to feel confident in your own skin. I love how Mitsouko has that effect on me every single time.

  • Wow.  After reading your entries, it suddenly occurs to me that maybe I need to add a new "seduction" scent to my fragrance wardrobe, since it seems I don't currently have one!  I am a big fan of Ava Luxe, and Loukhoum is a favorite.  I tend to gravitate toward musks and foody things, but maybe I need to reconsider…..

  • I think my seduction perfumes are Le Labo Rose 31 and also Montale Black Oud. I think those two are the best in the seductive side of perfumery.

  • What a simple collectively lovely piece! I love collaborative writing and this one is fabulous! I enjoyed this so much=))
