Boadicea The Victorious OPAL

Boadicea The Victorious Opal image by Steven

Boadicea the Victorious Opal is the British luxury fragrance house’s newest release for 2025. “Opal is an enchanting blend of orris, coffee, and spice! The saffron opening is hearty and exotic. The orris heart is waxy and sensual as it is also contrasted by aromatic lavender and clary sage. The patchouli base is long lasting with hints of creamy sandalwood and spicy cedar.” -Steven Gavrielatos, Video Contributor

Top notes: Saffron, Coffee, Bay Leaf, Metallic notes, Cinnamon, Black Pepper and Bergamot; Mid notes: Cocoa, Suede, Orris, Geranium, Clary Sage, Lavender, Davana, Nutmeg and Rose; Base notes: Musk, Orris, Patchouli, Cashmeran, Moss, Tonka Bean, Sandalwood, Cedar and Woody Notes

The brand was founded by Michael Boadi in 2008, inspired by Boadicea (or Boudica) a Celtic queen of the Iceni tribe of modern-day Norfolk in Eastern England who led an uprising against the occupying forces of the Roman Empire. According to the perfumer Julie Lerendu’s Instagram, “the brief was an ode to the mystical opal stone, capturing the magic of the Year of the Wood Snake“. Since March is National Women’s Month; we can’t think of a better way to honor the inspiration for the brand and the perfumer! –Michelyn

Boadicea is an amazing house with very exotic fragrance. Opal is mysterious and Opulent. One everyone should get their nose on

  • This is the first time I have heard of Boadicea The Victorious, and it sounds so interesting and mysterious! I love saffron and spice notes, and this sounds so yummy! I am in Colorado USA and appreciate this glorious opportunity!

  • Steven’s description of Opal paints it as a luxurious, bold fragrance with exotic spices and a complex heart wrapped in a warm, woody base. From what Steven says, it sounds like Opal is on the stronger, more mature side, perfect for those looking for something distinctive and daring. Given my fondness for creamy woods, spices, and sensual florals, and appreciation for rich, complex combinations, Opal’s notes are very intriguing! I’m aware of the brand’s high-end niche appeal, but am personally relatively new to niche, with its often loud, strong statement-making blends! From the US.

  • Todd Carlson says:

Steven does great content as always and is very informative of fragrance. I have yet to try something from this house but am looking forward too soon.

  • Brandon Rodriguez says:

Opal from Steven’s review sounds complex and luxurious. The notes sounds like blend into a beautiful melody. The saffron coffee orris excellent!

  • Ramses Perez says:

I am very familiar with the brand of Boadicea The Victorious and one thing it’s for sure, it’s luxurious. Judging by the notes I thought it would be a gourmand because of the coffee and cacao but it doesn’t seem to be that way according to Steven. It’s more of a dinner date or night out type of fragrance and coming from this house, it makes total sense. In true Boadicea fashion there are lots of notes but they always are all blended so well that you can still pick the independent notes and get the overall feeling the perfumer is trying to convey. The golden hue of the bottle gives in to the saffron, coffee and chocolatey aspect of it adding to the overall ecosystem Boadicea represents. I actually have tried a few from the house in passing but obviously due to the luxury of the brand have not pulled a trigger on any of them yet. There’s still a few days left of cold weather to enjoy this gem and it will be fall again before you know it. I’m located in the USA and a million thanks to Kintessence for this very generous giveaway

  • PerfumesforLife says:

I am familiar with Boadicea and I love some of their offerings like Dasman. This one sounds amazing. I checked Steven’s video and I like his description. He explained that it was a very opulent formal scent and I love those. The opening with saffron and leather with iris but not the lipstick kind. Overall a spicy leather with saffron which is one of my favorite notes plus the coffee note. This sounds like everything I wanted in a perfume!

  • HueloBien says:

When I think of Boadicea the Victorious, I comes to mind their beautiful bottle design.
I haven’t had the opportunity to smell any fragrance from the house, and even if Opal has the floral aspects Steven describes, the leather and orris, make me think I can wear it.

    Good luck to all.

I found this site by watching Steven’s videos. I come back to see what’s new and read the reviews. I am familiar with Bodicea as niche elegant fragrances. Ardent Boadicea the Victorious is a beautiful rose scent. It’s amazing! I would love to try this new scent. First the bottle is so elegant the attention to detail makes it special. Then Steven describes the coffee and saffron notes with a little floral. It has me so interested in trying. This house has an amazing range of fragrances. I need to try more.

I imagine these notes shining independently in this fragrance to make a beautiful composition like an opal with distinct colors, yet overall gorgeous. That atomizer is amazing!! 10 to 12 hours is a plus. I love saffron fragrances, love that it is very noticeable. Steve sprayed so much, his studio must have smelled amazing for days. My local shop used to carry this line, I think they dropped it due to the prices. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • I just got a sample of this and OMG, the opening is amazing. Love the drydown as well, woodsy little oregano in there to my nose and gives off a wonderful bubble. Delightful

  • Jeff Dennis says:

Had a brief smell of this last week in Harrods London. I did like it but I need to try it for longer to really get a feel for it. Haven’t managed to really fall in love with any of the impressive fragrances from this brand. Complex is the best so far for me

  • Boadicea produces some truly incredible fragrances. This one sounds intriguing with the rich combination of notes. Steven seemed to really emphasize the presence of the saffron, leather, orris, coffee and cacao notes. It does sound rich and indulgent yet sophisticated. I definitely need to sample this one and see what it’s all about. Cheers!!

I love how Steven really breaks down the fragrance and describes every note. He makes Opal sound irresistible. I love the combination of saffron and coffee, its such an intoxicating duo. Boadicea never fails to create truly luxurious and intriguing scents.

As I heard about the note breakdown I ordered a sample. I’m a fan of iris and saffron fragrances so I’m excited to see how the blend turns out.
If what Steven says is true, its sad that its a little less versatile; but if you’re buying a bottle of this price to wear to the office I suppose you’re missing the point haha.

  • The lavender, clary sage and patchouli in Opal sounds right up my alley. I do enjoy herbal scents. I liked learning about how the Boadicea brand was founded. I do enjoy Bodacious from them. Steven mentioned the coffee and cocoa notes that are warm and rich. Sounds delicious. Thanks for another wonderful review and draw. MI USA

  • Eris.can.swatch.kaos says:

I’m familiar with the name Boadicea but I’ve yet to experience a fragrance by the house. I’m very interested in Opal and it’s sensual opulence. I love the snake detailing on the bottle of this one. The loudness of this scent is super appealing to me and I’m fond of a unisex scent. I’m a Redolessence subscriber and follower of Cafleurebon on insta. I live in Oregon.

  • Enjoyed Steven’s video, especially his mention of the coffee, cocoa, and orris mixing with spices and suede. I’m interested to smell how the orris is used in this based on how Steven spoke of it being not lipsticky, but waxy, creamy, and smooth and sensual. I liked how this tied in to Women’s History Month with the brand being based on a heroine and the perfumes being a woman as well as Michelyn mentioned in her excerpt. I am familiar with Boadicea The Victorious but have not yet had the good fortune of owning or trying any. Thanks for the generous draw, from The U.S.

The inspiration behind it, the complexity of the notes, and the way it seems to evolve from spicy and warm to creamy and smooth, its just too good.

  • bernell79 says:

Boadicea is a fragrance house that consistently delivers when it comes to high quality scents. This one sounds like its no exception. • I am familiar with BtV as a brand solely because of how expensive they are. I would love to try this simply to see if the squeeze is worth the juice. Saffron, iris, and coffee together would be a unique addition to my collection and Steven’s mention of it having incense notes despite them not being listed has me even more interested. The bottle is beautiful and the atomizer looks great which should be expected if you’re gonna charge more than a band for one bottle! I’m in the USA!

Always been a sucker for a good coffee fragrance and nice to hear from Steven that the iris is not lip sticky, never been huge into that. Great that the performance is very strong as well.

  • I have been looking for something with a strong, lasting presence, and this seems like a perfect match, and this sounds like the perfect fragrance to wear for a crisp, cool evening.

  • Gabriel G says:

Steven’s description makes this sound like a must smell. I’ve never smelled anything by BTV.

  • Opal is a really fascinating gemstone, flush with color but delicate with an overall milkiness. The notes for Boadicea the Victorious Opal seem to reflect that duality with relaxing herbs and orris but also with a spiced coffee kick MD, USA

  • As someone unfamiliar with Boadicea the Victorious, I’ve always heard remarkable things about the brand’s craftsmanship and quality. Opal seems to be no exception. Inspired by the enchanting opal stone and the Year of the Wood Snake, this fragrance is a bold and sophisticated composition that seamlessly weaves together spice, woods, and florals. Steven’s video review beautifully captures the essence of Opal, highlighting its alluring saffron opening, sensual orris heart, and rich, long-lasting base. The combination of coffee, suede, and patchouli creates an exquisite balance between warmth and depth, while hints of cinnamon, cocoa, and lavender add an intriguing complexity.
With Opal, perfumer Julie Lerendu has crafted an olfactory journey that feels both timeless and modern. If this scent embodies the luxury and artistry I’ve heard so much about, I can’t wait to experience it firsthand! I’m your follower on Instagram, ealiyahia.
