ÇaFleureBon Behind the Bottle: Symine Salimpour of Hors La Monde “Shiloh X” + Casablanca Draw

What was the inspiration for Shiloh X

SS:  All our perfumes are inspired by love stories. SHILOH X was created around the famous saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".  Is there a better feeling that making someone feel beautiful?!

Rick Blaine  as played by Humphrey Bogart encounters his lost love Ilsa Lunz, played by Ingrid Bergman in ' Casablanca'

It is also perfume that is like a mirror. SHILOH X is like a travelling  through a looking glass; a scented connection between soul mates, that find each other no matter the distance or the time.Sometimes there is not a fairy tale ending. But love is real.

Perfumer Fabrice Olivieri is the magician that creates that "rendez vous" between souls. Shiloh X was created as a unisex fragrance for people who are reaching for their dreams and for eachother. Those emotions have no gender, no age or color. Like love, we are surprised when we are least aware. This fragrance therefore could not be called anything but X…reperesenting an unknown factor … an emotion not easily identified and unique to each person's connecttion to another.  It is a love story of the senses.

Why all your fragrances are called Shiloh?

SS: SHILOH is the name of the heart and soul of the perfumes; Shiloh is always shifting signifying  a place in time… a memory… a mood

The first chapter was SHILOH, designed by Michel Roudnitska around the idea of universal beauty. LADY SHILOH designed by Fabrice Olivieri came from the dream of holding precious moments for the eternity, around the idea of the illusion of time;SHILOH X is a tribute to people who we love.

Tell us the love story behind the bottle?

SS: The bottle of SHILOH X  is created to evoke a mirror. We wanted a flacon with pure lines and a lot of limpidity that could match SHILOH's moods. The packaging of SHILOH X is also reflective so you can see your own image and those you love.

Are there more chapters in the Shiloh  story?

SS: I am working with an architect right now and that is the next chapter.

Michelyn Camen, Editor-In Chief

  • Michelyn, when it's a great prize, no one wants to be first!!

My last moment of unexpected love was went I went to see a guy perform in a play – I had been kind of crushing on him, but when he opened his mouth to sing, my heart got way to big for my chest. I just felt full of pride and love for him. I fell.

    I haven't tried any Shilohs!

  • My moment of unexpected love was when i met Jim, my sweetie. He is a wonderful and kind person and such a caring and giving person. As far as the Shiloh fragrances go, they are pretty nice, i have tried the first 2 and found Lady Shiloh to be the one i loved. Would be fun to get to try this newest creation.

  • I love all the Shiloh parfums – But I associate Lady Shiloh with new love. My friend Galina noticed it on meme and bought it for herself from Luckyscent. Her new "man" loved it on her and requested she wear it ! That made me feel good as a Cupid.
The original Shiloh I prefer in the Fall/ winter seasons and Lady Shiloh in the Spring/Summer.
Whenever i wear the Shilohs I always get compliments .
I love the art/ beauty connection and the name Shiloh – it is exotic like the parfums !
Please enter me in the drawer !

  • Neither I tried any Shiloh scents and thus would like to win this one. Unexpected love has lately something to do with seeing my son after a time since he doesn't live with me. It's literally an attack of that warm feeling in my heart.

  • I must try this one only because I haven't tried this, LOL.  It is a new focus for my lemming hunt, and just trying it might cause pause in that hunt.  I do love the name, so I should love the fragrance.

  • The first time I saw my boyfriend's eyes. We had been chatting on the internet for months but we had never seen each other. The day we first met, he was wearing black sunglasses until I told him to take them off. I couldn't imagine he had the most beautiful grey-blue eyes I had ever seen.
I have never tried Shiloh fragrances, but I love the idea of them being inspired by love stories.

My moment of unexpected love was when I met my husband, we were learning english way back then, and we met, he sat next to me and asked if I had an extra pen…from that day we are together: 17 years and counting…
I've never tried any Shiloh fragrances, and I'd love to win one! Love, love, love is everywhere!!!!

  • My moment of unexpected love was the first time I met my husband. I was working as a bank teller and was back from break when I spotted a tall handsome man with jet black hair and full lips waiting in line. My heart started racing unexpectedly and I knew I had to do my best to at least meet him, so I raced back to my station and made sure I got him as my customer. Which I did and that was the start of our beautiful relationship. I would love to try Shiloh. Please enter me in the draw. 🙂

  • I felt a moment of unexpected love watching the royal wedding the other day because it reminded me of my own wedding and, for obvious reasons!, I hadn't expected that.  I like Shiloh but I was slightly disappointed by Lady Shiloh though I didn't give it a fair go.  I would love to try this one.

  • This is going to be in contrast of some of the other lovely stories told above abouve an unexpected moment of love but if its all the same my story is about one of my dogs. My husband two children adopted a retired racing greyhound two years ago. I have owned many dogs in my lifetime but this one has a special corner all to herself in my heart. This dog came to our family retired from a horrid life of banishment and regimin. We had to teach her to be a dog first and a family member second. To know what a retired greyhound acts like is to know that he is prone to mistrust and anxiety. However three days ago, my girl was laying with me in bed after my husband left for work as she has come to do in the past six months the scene was relaxed. When out of no where she came up to the headboard of the bed and layed her head down right next to mine and nuzzled up with me for the remainder of our lazy morning.
It was unexpected love. It is also unexpected trust. I looked right into her little brown eyes and realized she has taught herself how to trust a human again. I felt so happy for both of us. Dogs that are born into puppyhood with a wonderful family and upbringing snuggle alot as they should. A retired racer, has to learn and in some cases relearn how to love, trust and be affectionate. It s a pretty big deal.
I am unfamiliar with the Shiloh scent family…but I am always looking for additions to my scentual wardrobe!

Most amazingly, the new fragrant fusion by Symine Salimpoure is quite symbolic of my love story – I met a man of rich cultural heritage. Originally Javanese Chinese, his family moved to Northern California when he was in his early teens, in his late 20s has lived in Sicily and Sardinia for four years. All the notes ring many bells in our shared olfactory palette – travels and voyages to distant and not so distant lands, quests, discoveries and rediscoveries, sensual, emotional, intellectual…
And this is the very first chapter of my love story – we met at a sake tasting in the end of winter, at Shinjuku. Kanto is a lavish land with year-round blooming, essentially, and wherever you turn, your eye meets with the floral beauty modestly awaiting…My February Kanagawa memory is kalanchoe, especially fragrant on chilly nights, silent companion on your brief walk from the train station more poignant…We spent the next day wondering through central Tokyo parks, discovering early plum blooms at Ueno. Two and a half years later, the love story seems still at its early stage, gaining more and more ground, at the same time – more and more depth and numerous accents…After all, it seems, love is about new discoveries of your earlier dreams, among many other meaningful definitions…
Would love to experience the new Shiloh creation and see how it reflects in a facet of my life& love story ;))

My moment of unexpected love was when I met DH over 30 years ago at some horrible Christmas party.  I was destined to marry someone else,,,but that didn't happen—another long story.  We're still together–DH and I—and fit like a lock and key.
I own Shiloh HOrs la Monde.  Love it,,,and would love to win the new one!!!

  • Unexpected love is the moment you lay eyes on your first grandchild for the first time. Its a beautiful feeling, one i myself will never forget. Hors la Monde fragrances are very beautiful and do not get much attention when they really should. 🙂

  • Yet again, an incredible draw, Michelyn, but also a somewhat difficult task. There has been long lost loves and unexpected loves but to do them justice by writing about them is not so easy 🙂 .
A long lost love, was that first great love, that could never be because of the circumstances, and as a consequence will always be with me as something special.
Shiloh- X sounds truly beautiful, and the bottle is amazing.

  • Unexpected love at a football game 20 years ago… definitely special, but a secret story. 🙂
Unexpected love when I met my most recent dog, a small red puppy who'd already met the mean side of humanity. Once the mange was shampoo'd away and he got over his fear, he was a happy, happy pooch who lived 17 years!

Unexpected love when I had my second daughter who I knew I'd love, but never understood how differently from her sister. Both are special, both are loved.
And love lost and found… a story not completely written yet. Maybe one day a story I can share. 😀

  • Thank you Michelyn for this great occasion you gave me to hear all those beautiful unexpected love stories…
Thank you all for sharing them 🙂
    Love, Symine
