Behind the Bottle: Escentric Molecules Escentric 05 and Molecule 05 by Geza Schoen + Cashmeran Draw

Geza Schön of Escentric Molecules

In 2005, perfumer Geza Schoen (Geza Schön) changed the olfactory landscape with his introduction of Escentric 01 and Molecule 01. Over the past 11 years, I have interviewed Geza numerous times for CaFleureBon as well as for other publications.  If anyone would have asked me that “Iso E Super in a bottle” would become one of the most well-known niche fragrances in the world back then, I would have been skeptical.  Geza told me a few years ago that he was  testing ingredients in his lab and just dabbed on Iso E Super before going to a Night Club.  Women were attracted to the scent and asked where they could buy it.

Escentric Molecule 01 iso E super

It was a Eureka!!! moment and thus the Escentric Series 01 (A CaFleureBon Modern Masterpiece) was born; it sounds so simple but no one had done it before Geza.  “The Escentrics are different again as there neither was any restrictions or a time schedule really so for example 01 took 5 years from the very first idea to the finished product. It started in Paris in 2001 via London and ended in 2005 in Berlin.” –Geza Schoen

Escentric 02 (Ambroxan) 03 (vetiveryle acetate) and 04 (javenol) followed; I encourage our readers and viewers to read my interview here.

15 years later we go Behind the Bottle for the upcoming launch of Escentric 05 and Molecule 05-Michelyn Camen, Editor-in Chief

Escentric Molecules Molecule 05 review

Michelyn Camen: What was the genesis for Escentric 05 and cashmeran, from a creative standpoint?

Geza Schoen: All molecules I chose need complexity. Most or let’s say at least 99% of all aroma chemicals need other synthetic or natural products with them to conquer their linear olfactoric appearance. Cashmeran has got that capacity. First of all it is kind of a hybrid between a woody and a musky ingredient. Secondly I see a piney note and even a slight fruity note in it. Ultimately it is always the molecule itself which leads to the concept of the corresponding Escentric fragrance. I was able at various stages of the year to observe the smell of a Mediterranean island with its changing natural notes and aromas. after one year it dawned on me that cashmeran would be the perfect base for a fragrance which embraces a summery atmosphere in the hills close to the coastline. Especially the dry and resinous woods towards the end of the summer ooze this particular scent which is key to the creation of Escentric 05.

Escentric Molecules Escentric 05

What are the differences between Escentric 05 and Molecule 05?

Geza: Well as always the molecule version is a singular aroma chemical in a bottle. Escentric 05 is a light fresh woody scent with corresponding notes of herbs, florals and resinous balsamic notes. It is not sweet, sticky or fruity yet the focus is on the darker side of these end-of-summer notes I watched over and over again. It does not have a marine note either. I tried again and again from every new base to incorporate a sea breeze, it didnt work, I always perceived this as artificial, can’t have that.

Geza Schoen

In 2005 when you became the first perfumer to overdose Iso E Super did you realize that brands that use solely or predominately synthetics would become trendy?

Geza: I dunno, I guess a good perfume still has to be made with both, naturals and synthetics as a fusion to bringout the best of both. Synthetics give you those linear bricks to build the skeleton of the scent; the naturals provide the soul, the flesh and the irreplaceable complexity. As far as I am concerned only chemical or only natural in a fragrance doesn’t work properly (other than these few aroma chemicals to qualify for the Escentric molecule series.

What took so long between launching 04 and 05?

Geza: hahahaa, but it didn’t! It was only three years since Escentric 04 ! Between 02 and 03 there was even a gap of seven years. (Michelyn explains hundreds of new perfumes debut each year, Geza is non plussed).Look we are still only a handful of people who run Escentric molecules and I have a daughter of 3 and a half now who is very present in my life now plus all sorts of other requests I have to work on etc. well: apologies !

  • I’ve heard of this fragrance before but I’ve never tried it. I learned that synthetics give perfumers linear bricks to build different fragrances. Very good article. Thanks for it and the great giveaway. I liked the article on Facebook as well. Commenting from Kentucky USA. USAfrfragrancesthe skeleton of the scent

  • I’m always excited to learn about aroma-chemicals and how they play a part in the fragrances we enjoy so much. Too often these days are people scared of the ‘c word’… chemicals! Cashmeran is an interesting one and turns up in some of my favorite compositions. I do find it interesting that a lot of fragrances now disclose which aromachemicals they use and not just notes – it goes to show that there is an understanding that the consumer now has a nose for exactly what ambroxan or casheran smells like for example. I have yet to try any of these in this Escentric lineup. In from Canada.

Liked hearing how the idea was born from just dabbing something on before going to the club and people responded to it. And how he chooses which aroma chemical to develop the next fragrance. Good interview from GA USA

  • I’d actually heard of Escentric Molecule 01 many years ago and it was always on my list to try. I wanted to know what the hype was about. Nice to hear more of the story from Geza and i totally understand when he says that a good perfume still has to be made with both, naturals and synthetics as a fusion to bring out the best of both.
I live in the UK and fingers crossed for luck to try this. thanks.

  • It’s interesting how Geza got the idea to establish Molecule line because it is how many have discovered this line, by smelling on others and being intrigued. I agree with Geza that synthetics form the skeleton of perfumes. I have many perfumes from Geza that he has developed for a variety of brands such as Kinski, Ormonde Jayne Vanille d’Iris and so on. I am in US

  • I enjoyed reading the interview with Geza and Michelyn. Also learning about Escentric Molecules and the synthetic materials he uses in his fragrances. Escentric 05 is a light woody fragrance with the Iso E super and herbs with florals. I have never tired any of these fragrances. Thank you for the chance to try this. USA, California

  • So excited to smell a summer molecule! The 01 may be my most complimented fragrance. Menfolk are thrilled that they can wear it. I’m glad the marine note didn’t work out; it’s often a mess. I live in the USA.

  • The role of specific molecules in the fragrance industry is fascinating, Francis Kurkdjian had remarked how important synthetics are in making perfumes last.
The current trend towards “all natural” perfume is puzzling, specific natural scents can be re-created in a lab which lessens the impact on the environment where rare plants and trees are harvested for the hugely expanding fragrance industry.

  • I remember vividly trying Molecule 01 for the first time and could not smell anything. Upon second trial, all of a sudden its scent profile came to light for me which definitely fascinated me. Between Escentric 05 and Molecule 05 I think I might like the former more just because I prefer more complex fragrances, especially non-marine ones that steer more towards the darker side oof notes. Thanks for the update on this house. Regards from Boston USA.

  • Great interview Michelyn Camen!!!
You introduce me with new creation of Geza Schoen and I learned that:”Cashmeran has got that capacity. First of all it is kind of a hybrid between a woody and a musky ingredient. Secondly I see a piney note and even a slight fruity note in it. Ultimately it is always the molecule itself which leads to the concept of the corresponding Escentric fragrance. Thank you for new interesting material, I appreciate your work.

  • Escentric 05 and Molecule 05 sound like fantastic layered with other fragrances and by themselves. I do like woody unisex fragrances. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff! Mich USA

  • I had read a blog on the escentric website about non-binary fragrances and it’s so intriguing and eye-opening, everyone should read it. I had smelled Molecule 02 and we all have seen Amborxan being used widely in so many popular fragrances. I really liked the interview and MIchelyn question about why it took so long ? 🙂 Would love to small 05.

As a fan of the house this was a great informative review. The differences explained by Geza was great. I enjoy how they can worn by themselves or as a base to enhance a frag & it’s performance/longevity.

  • I remember hearing about Escentric 01 years ago and how it wa essentially the synthetic molecule Iso E Super. I love how he compares use of synthetics to the skeleton but natural aroma chemicals are the soul. Liked Behind the Bottle Q and A on FB.
    I’m in MD USA

  • I only heard of the brand but never actually try any of their offerings, though I only interest in Iso super E inspired and despite the ambroxan one. Undeniably synthetic ingredients are essential to the performance of fragrances nowadays, but being able to keep the balance and smoothness of the blend is the utmost important thing.

I am grateful for the opportunity to have a chance to win these bottles.

  • To me it is interesting that he states good fragrances have a mix of both natural and synthetic materials. I didn’t pay much attention to the ingredients but his statement there makes me want to observe it more. I have tried Molecule 01 which I use quite often. Would love to try the fifth of the series. From USA.

  • Curious to try both 05 Escentric Molecules compositions. Geza Schoen is the nose behind two of my favorite Ormonde Jayne fragrances: Woman and Nawab of Oudh. Would love to experience his take on cashmeran. These would be welcome gifts, as I enjoy woody and musky scents in general.

    From Florida

  • I really do like the sound of Escentric 05 with it’s woody and piney qualities. Never thought for a second that cashmeran would be used in a summery perfume though. That’s definitely news to me! I suppose it also makes sense that it would be a confluence of molecules that help detract from their linear nature. Shame that Geza couldn’t get that sea breeze accord. Wouldn’t been interesting to sample it, even if it came out synthetic smelling. Canada.

  • It was insightful to learn how the process of coming up with a new aeroma chemical is actually made , from the reason why to how it eventually gets executed.
It was great to learn of the conception of this.

Molecule 02 is still my favourite from the line. It’s a welcome addition to any scent or just great on its own.

    From Ireland, EU.

  • I really enjoyed the question and answer format. I found it interesting that Mr. Schoen mentioned a good perfume should still contain neutrals as well as synthetics with the exception of the few synthetics that work on their own in this series. It’s cool that he does seem to search for the right synthetic with the right characteristics to make it able to stand alone in a perfume. I have read about the other 4 pairs of fragrances in the line but have not been able to try any yet. I live in the USA. Liked behind the bottle Q and A on facebook. Thanks for the generous draw.

  • I have Molecule 01 and it’s my safe choice for whenever I cannot decide what to wear. Cashmeran also appeals to me a lot, especially after associating it with Mediterranean. “Synthetics give you those linear bricks to build the skeleton of the scent; the naturals provide the soul, the flesh and the irreplaceable complexity”- a peace of info to take note of.
I’ve hit the like on FB.

  • I am certainly a fan of Escentric Molecules and I had many, Molecule 01 remania my favorite and always in my collection. The interview confirmed what I was guessing that not all ISO E Super in a bottle is Molecule 01. All molecules he chose need complexity. Most aroma chemicals need other synthetic or natural products with them to conquer their linear olfactoric appearance.

It is not that simple to just synthesize cash Sean and you will have your own Molecule 05 or ISO E Super and have Molecule 01, this is work and the interview confirmed it.

    I live in EU

  • Nice concept, how you could refine the scents to specific molecules and how he went to the club attracting women to his ISO-E. Never tried this before, would love to give it a dab. Living in the EU

  • A wonderful description by Geza Schoen that synthetics are the skeleton of the fragrance, whilst the naturals are the heart and soul of the fragrance. I have liked behind the bottle Q and A Facebook page. Thanks a million from UK.

  • Sounds great! I own Molecule 01 and despite the hate it gets from a lot of people, on me it works beautiful. Really curios about this new release, thanks for the chance, i’m in the EU.

  • The most important thing I learned from the interview is} what Geza Schön emphasized: a (good) perfume has to contain natural and synthetic ingredients, to bring a mixture of the best of both. Because synthetics give the linear layers to support and frame the scent, and the naturals give the heart, the soul for an outstanding, complex parfume. As he says: “As far as I am concerned only chemical or only natural in a fragrance doesn’t work properly… ” A lesson to learn!

  • Curious to learn, that the Molecules creator of all people says that a “good perfume still has to be made with both, naturals and synthetics”. Interesting!

I’ve tried Moelcules 01 some time ago but didn’t like it very much. In the meantime I’ve learned that I’m not very keen on Iso E Super heavy fragrances. So I’d really like to try my nose on then 05. Please add me to the draw. I live in Germany.

  • Intrigued that cashmeran is a hybrid of a Woody and musky note. I have liked behind the bottle Q and A Facebook page. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • blombergskan says:

I learned that Gezas philosophy matches something I (as a novice in perfumes) have suspected: ” Synthetics give you those linear bricks to build the skeleton of the scent; the naturals provide the soul, the flesh and the irreplaceable complexity.” Love the imagery! I’ve worn and enjoyed both Escentric 02 and Molecule 02 and would love to try its siblings E05 and M05. Living in Sweden.

  • I’ve heard of this series before but never tried, it was intersting to learn more behind these fragrances and the differences of the two, and how synthetics work with natural! from Finland, EU

  • I love such experimental ideas like the molecule lines. Thank you for a great interview. It was lovely to know the motivation behind Mr Schoen’s choice of which molecules to use. I wonder what’s next…
Thank you for the giveaway. I live in EU.

  • I know the Escentric Molecules line very well. ESCENTRIC 01 is one of my favorite perfumes, it can never be missing …

  • The Plum Girl says:

I just had to enter this draw. Well hello, Geza and thanks Michelyn – 05 is something I want to get my nose on. Mediterranean island, inland? Cashmeran? I’m really curious about what has he done this time. I’d be happy with either or Escentric 05 and Molecule 05. I live in Croatia/EU. Did I say that I follow Geza’s work closely? 😀

  • It was very interesting to read how he feels a perfume is only complete when it has both natural and chemical ingredients, and that they complete each other and bring their own contribution to the complete structure. I have smelled Escentric 01 and 02 and Molecule 01 from him and I found them quite brilliant. I have also liked the Behind the bottle Q&A page (User- Elmas MT). I am in the EU, thanks for an insightful interview.

  • I learned here that, “at least 99% of all aroma chemicals need other synthetic or natural products with them to conquer their linear olfactoric appearance.” I am familiar with this series and have tried several. Would love to win this pair. US

  • I loved this line from the article on how to use synthetics and naturals: Synthetics give you those linear bricks to build the skeleton of the scent; the naturals provide the soul, the flesh and the irreplaceable complexity. This makes perfect sense! I love Molecule 01, as does most everyone else!

  • Thank you so much for this article Michelyn!

I’m so glad to see Geza also educating people on what synthetics do in perfumes. I learned from Viktoria Minya last year how the availability and usage of synthetics can greatly reduce demand on endangered species, eliminate the use of natural aroma sources which just aren’t efficient, or can help to recreate a natural scent which is an allergenic trigger for many people.

The natural perfume trend is absolutely fine and I’m happy to see people starting to think about the sourcing of their perfume ingredients… But synthetics can have their place reducing environmental impact, both by recreating natural scents not suitable to be made from nature anymore, and apparently as Geza said to extend and anchor natural fragrance notes so that they have longevity and more complexity.

That makes a perfume product that can be used more sparingly to greater effect, so I think that synthetics absolutely have a place in modern perfumery still.

I’d be very curious to try Molecule #5. Cashmeran isn’t a note I have in any of my perfumes so I’m not sure if I’ve gravitated away from it or simply not encountered a perfume I love with it yet!

    In Canada.

  • Interesting. I learned about how long he takes, and the slow natural process to develop these synthetic scents. That is very attractive to me. Escentric 01 completely wowed me! The others I only know by reputation. Kansas, US

  • What a great interview! Thank you Geza Schoen and our EIC Michelyn Camen. It was especially interesting to learn about “…the differences between Escentric 05 and Molecule 05…” and how the perfumer developed the Escentric version. Have tried all in the line (with the exception of the 05s). My favorites are the 01s. I am in the US and liked Behind the Bottle Q and A. Thank you for this very generous draw.

  • I think I’ve tried other 3 or 4 from this house. Another one worth a sniff is Kinsky, also by Mr. Geza. Very artsy and unique. Would love to give the latest creation a try.

  • I’ve read a little a bit about this line, but I haven’t tried any of the fragrances. I especially enjoyed reading about Escentric 05 and always appreciate hearing that good fragrances need a combination of natural and synthetic materials. I am in the USA.

  • I’m always curious about their fragrances! I’m one of the people for whom Molecule 01 didn’t smell like anything, but I’m always curious to take a whiff of their things! Definitely an exciting new launch for this year. USA and I liked it on Facebook

  • Look forward to trying these – both Molecule & Escentric versions. I have 01 & 02 and have, over the years, enjoyed wearing and the responses from those around me. I’ve also used them in combination with other fragrances at times. I’ve tried samples of the 03 & 04 as well, all lots of fun to wear and experiment with. I’m in the US – thank you for the article & the opportunity.

  • What a great interview it really was informative and gave a lot of background into molecule vs escentric.
I wear and enjoy escentric o1.
It’s a bit subtle to my nose but people give me a lot of compliments. Since I am single I am going to wear it to a bar and hope to get some attention

  • I have been so curious about these fragrances. I’ve not tried any of them yet. It’s so incredibly interesting that he says most or at least 99% of all aroma chemicals need other synthetic or natural products with them to conquer their linear olfactoric appearance.

  • Michelyn, it’s always a pleasure to read your interviews. I often find that the people behind the fragrance are just as interesting as the creations they bring to fruition. I love to be able to see/hear/feel what was going through the perfumers mind as they sketched and perfected their perfume. It was really interesting to know that Geza tried and tried to work in the marine note to no avail, that’s the kind of thing that I find incredibly interesting.

Geza/Escentric Molecules, thank you for the generosity of this draw.

I was first exposed to Escentric via a Discovery Kit on Luckyscent when I started my niche journey. It sat unopened for a year because I wasn’t sure what to make of it after reading reviews of the Molecules online. I finally tried them and was still a bit mystified. How time does change ones reactions and perceptions. Sheer works of genius!!!!

I also just got a sample of your Project Renegades scent and am excited to finally be trying it.

    I’m in the USA.

  • I like how he wanted a sea breeze vibe with a marine note, but didn’t force it because it wouldn’t have worked. I admire the restraint. Cheers from Indiana, USA. I am only familiar with Molecule 01.

  • redwheelbarrow says:

I’ve never tried any of these fragrances but find it an interesting concept. I’ve played around with aromachemicals and definitely see how some have more complexity than others. I’d love to see what the professionals are doing with them. I also didn’t know the difference between the Escentric/Molecule lines and it would be fun to compare them side by side. Thank you for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • I really liked the interview, is very interesting and i enjoyed the answers they gave. I’ve tried Molecule 04 and Escentric 04, and i’ m very curious about 05. Thank you from Romania, Eu( i like the page Behind the Bottle Q and A)

  • Unfortunately, I’ve yet to try any of the molecule line. I do like him acknowledging that perfumers use naturals and synthetics because I feel synthetics often get unduly maligned. I’m in the USA

  • Nice review – I learned about this brand, as I didn’t know about it before. It would be interesting to try out Molecule 05 to see how a fragrance based on one chemical smells like. Escentric 05 sounds more interesting as a blend of cashmeran with other chemicals o create the Mediterranean accord, as it were. Thank you for the draw and the review – writing from USA.

I am not too familiar with the Escentric molecules fragrances unfortunately. I am in EU.

  • WOW!! Great, very interesting interview! I enjoyed it!

  • I knew a little bit about the approach for Escentric Molecules, but this was very informative because it gave a specific example. I enjoyed the observation about the way natural and synthetic notes support one another. I love the idea of winning the two scents togedther, so I can compare cashmeran by itself with the scent combined with others. I have never tried an Escentric fragrance, but you have whetted my appetite. I am in the US, in North Carolina.

  • Thank you Michelyn for this very interesting review!! It was interesting to know Mr. Schoen thoughts about using natural and synthetic materials- he said very simple but nice – synthetics gives a skeleton of the scent; the naturals provide the soul !!!
I like Escentric 04 and own Escentric 02.

  • I learned that with Escentric 05 “Most or let’s say at least 99% of all aroma chemicals need other synthetic or natural products with them to conquer their linear olfactoric appearance. ”

I learned that with Molecule 05 ” Synthetics give you those linear bricks to build the skeleton of the scent; the naturals provide the soul, the flesh and the irreplaceable complexity” this is a beautiful description of the art of perfumery.

It was interesting to note his mildly sanguine expectations as to its success. I’d really like to get my nose on these. Appreciate the opportunity the giveaway. -Virginia, USA

  • I not familiar with Geza’s other perfumes. Reading this interview, I’ve learnt that only chemical or only natural in a fragrance doesn’t work properly most times. It’s always great to be patient and take all the time you need to create something unique and beautiful.

  • The story of going clubbing and attracting women is a great inception story! I like Behind the Bottle, too. I’m in USA and have not tried this house yet.

  • I love that the genesis to this amazing and successful brand was random women coming up to Geza at a night club telling him how great he smelled. That launched what we have now, as mentioned in the article, “one of the most recognizable niche fragrances in the world.” I’ve got to be honest, I love when women come up to me and tell me how great I smell. Definitely makes me feel good. I’ve had the fortune of trying both molecule 1 and 2, both of which I really enjoyed. I haven’t tried anything from the Eccentric series. I’m excited to try these ones as I do enjoy the note of cashmeran. It’s utilized in a couple of my favorite fragrances. Thanks for the opportunity. FL, USA.

  • Hello

I ‘ve heard of Escentric Molecules before,
the brand is very popular in the community,
but I haven’t tested them yet.
I found the interview interesting enough,

I learned 2 good things: 1) Most or let’s say at least 99% of all aroma chemicals need other synthetic or natural products with them to conquer their linear olfactoric appearance. 2) Synthetics give you those linear bricks to build the skeleton of the scent; the naturals provide the soul, the flesh and the irreplaceable complexity. And from what’s stated, Escentric 05 sounds like it’s going to smell wonderful wafting in the summer breeze. I only have auditory knowledge of Geza’s other fragrances. I live in Waldorf, MD, USA.

  • Oh this does sound nice, and it was interesting to unrestrained how Geza identifies a chemical to feature solo, and then how he develops the complimentary scent. Thanks you for the draw and the review! In the US.

  • Molecule 1 is on my top 3 favorite fragrances EVER, so I am sooooo excited for this new launch!!! I absolutely loved hearing about the inspiration for Geza to create it, from wearing Iso E Super out to the clubs. When I wear it, people hunt me down to ask me what it is. SO GOOD! I would love to be entered into the contest. I liked the Bottle Q + A page and I live in Austin, TX. Thank you!!

  • I have escentric 2 and I’ve been told it smells like a sunny day, as ambiguous as that seems. I’d like to smell Mr. Geza’s take on a Mediterranean island without the marine scent. That seems ambiguous as well, to smell an island without the smell of water! I live in NYC

  • Armando Esparza says:

Through this interview, I’ve learned that the molecule cashmeran is a hybrid between musky and woody ingredients. Right away I think of this as being a great base for uber fruity fragrances that need a slightly more masculine touch. Eccentric 05 sounds like a combination of a bright and fruity opening, while mostly concentrating on the dark side of the molecule cashmeran adding the woody and musky notes. Would love to win this if I’m honest.

  • Interesting interview! I actually had a decant of Molecule 1 and I received soo many compliments. Living in Sicily, I would love to try these two fragrances that were inspired by the natural Mediterranean smells! I also appreciate that it doesn’t have a marine note, I don’t particularly like these kind of notes.

  • Wow such a intense review, honestly first time I hear about this niche fragrance, seems pretty interesting,
But you guys bought me already with one of first sentences, as you said that women’s in the Night Clubs were attached and ask for what fragrance is that and where they could buy it, THATS AWESOME, THATS EXACTLY WHAT I NEED!
I WOULD BE HONORED TO WIN THIS GIVEAWAY,
IF NOT I’M GOING TO BUY IT DEFINITELY!
    Thank you guys,
    I’m from Europe.

  • I can’t believe it’s been 15 years since 01. I’ve owned and loved Escentric and Molecules 01 and 02, and I’d love to experience what Schoen has done with cashmeran this time around. It’s funny to learn that 01 had its origins as a club scent. I’m in the US.

  • It was nice to learn about the new Escentric Molecule fragrances, Escentric 05 , and Molecule 05. Safe woody scents do have their role in my life.
Molecule 01 I use for layering purposes, works really well with fresh citrus fragrances.
    Thank you for the draw.

  • I like Molecule 01, and it was interesting to read how it came into being. I look forward to trying Molecule 05.

  • A perfume needs to be the balance of synthetic and natural. Both are needed to balance a fragrance. Interesting how these few molecules chosen by Geza are able to stand alone.

  • I thing there is about of the synthetic basic substances from the perfumes, with different notes, who give them, that natural scent to the reformulated key of the perfumes…I like Escentric Molecule 1….so far! Regards from Romania, EU

  • Ok, You have me quite curious with this one! Full disclosure: I tried Molecule 01 a few times but was anosmic to it. However I adore and own OJ Woman & Elixir so I am not disheartened!
I am naturally suspicious of Mediterranean coast scents as they are hard to do really authentically and being Italian they own my heart. I did not know your history until now and love your approach to leave out the marine notes for M05 – Ben fatto. I would love to try these, the packaging is beautiful. I am the founding member of ‘The Lucky Five’, a family nickname, and I am feeling correspondingly lucky….I am in the USA.

  • I thing there is about of the synthetic basic substances from the perfumes, with different notes, who give them, that natural scent to the reformulated key of the perfumes…I like Escentric Molecule 1….so far! Regards from Romania, EU… and I liked the fb page of Behind the Bottle Q and A, too.

  • I would love to win! The smell of dry fir trees baking on rock in the summer sun are one of my favorite smells/ memories from when I lived in Colorado. I loved learning about the inspiration for this creation as smelling a Mediterranean island for a year. That was a neat story about the creation of Molecule 01, too! I live in New York State, US.

  • It’s interesting to hear that Geza finds that a good perfume has to be composed of both synthetic and natural notes.
    Thank you for the interview!
    Greetings from The Netherands!
    Diana.

  • Interesting how Geza sees the fact that the molecule itself leads to the concept of the corresponding Escentric fragrance. Also, the fact that he can mentally asign an ingredient to a wanted effect.
I’ve learnt that 100% natural or 100% synthetic are a no go :).
I’ve dealt with the Molecules briefly and superficially, so I can’t say I’m familiar with any of them.
    I’m in Europe.

  • I liked “Behind the Bottle” on FB.
Geza sounds as original as his fragrance. The idea that stuck with me is his mentioning, “…far as I am concerned only chemical or only natural in a fragrance doesn’t work properly…”
I just hadn’t thought of it that way. USA

  • Very interesting interview! Thanks, Michelyn and Geza Schoen.
I really enjoyed this informative article- it was interesting know about cashmeran. I have Escentric 02, and need another one beautiful perfume for summer: I hope Escentric 05 will be one of my spring/summer favorite.

  • It was interesting to learn that a mix of natural and synthetic materials is needed to make a good fragrance. Learning about the architecture in making a perfume makes me want to know more! MO, USA.

  • I do like that he sees the need for both synthetics and naturals in fragrance. I’m not familiar with any of these fragrances. Thank you for a most informative review and a generous draw. I’m in the USA

  • To me it is interesting that he states good fragrances have a mix of both natural and synthetic materials. I have heard that Molecule 01 is very suitable for the summer and is perfect for layering.
    Regards from EU.

  • When I was beginner in niche perfumery- I appreciated naturalness of perfume, but now I know that it’s very difficult to have good and interesting structure, longevity and projection without synthetic materials.
    Thanks for this informative interview.

  • Nice! This sounds great. I have Molocule 01 which my wife and I both share, and it is wonderful. Fortunately I nor she is anosmic to it, and it has such a wonderful cedar, clean, light floral smell that has sillage for miles, and a huge scent bubble. I have yet to try the others, and 04 is on my list to try soon, as I love sandalwood. I would be happy to win either of these offerings. Very interesting about trying to add the seabreeze note, and not liking it. I have to admit that mutiple houses I have tried with a seabreeze note, I found very artificial and rather unpleasant. Only a few fragrances that I was able to smell, was able to pull off that seabreeze note successfully, or what I perceive as a seabreeze note. Thank you for the draw! Can’t wait to try this either way. Love the house! US. NY.

  • I have smelled Molecule 01. A dear friend of mine had it. I haven’t had the privilege of owning or smelling any of his later creations. I find very interesting the idea of the simple molecule note in the Molecules fragrances and find it also intriguing the additional notes in the Escentric Molecules line. I appreciated very much the geniality and ingenuity of someone with a fearless sense of smell and with the ability to transcend by exploring a different area of the perfumers’ world. Thank you for the wonderful giveaway. I’m commenting for Orlando, Fl USA.

I really enjoyed the interview with perfumer Geza Schoen. His innovative ideas landed him some of the most popular niche fragrances on the market. I am familiar with the Escentric Molecule Line. Molecule 01 with the Iso-E Super appears to be the best selling and most popular. All these fragrances in the line offer a simple scent that can be worn anytime or as a baselayer for another fragrance. I learned how important it is to have a nice balance between natural and synthetics in fragrances and what molecules are in each Escentric Molecule fragrance from 01 to 05. I am hoping to win Escentric Molecule 05 with Cashmeran. I liked the article on Facebook as well. I am from the USA.

  • I learnt that the Escentric versions have more ingredients built around the main molecule. I’ve only tried Molecule 1 from this house and enjoy it quite a lot. I’ve also liked Behind the Bottle Q and A on Facebook. I’m in USA

  • Escentric Molecules are famous for safe pleasing fragrances, and that’s exactly what I’m expecting from Escentric 05 and Molecule 05.
Molecule 01 I had up until recently.
    Thank you.

  • Escentric 02 I received for Christmas. Honestly I was not expecting much, but to my surprise it actually projects pretty good for ~2 hours.
I like Geza Schoen approach “I do what I do, and don’t care about the others”.
Cafleurebon and Escentric Molecules I already follow on Instagram.

  • Thank you for the insightful interview.
Escentric Molecules has indeed revolutionized the perfume stage with it’s use of syntethic molecules. I’ve tried Molecule 01 and 02. On me these dissapear rather quickly, but i detect them at a later stage and they seem to have a great appeal to the people around.
I appreciate that statement that good perfumes have a mix of both natural and synthethic ingredients. It was interesting to know that the idea was born after wearing Iso E super during a night out.
Thank you for the chance and the interview. I liked Behind the Bottle Q and A .
    Greetings from Romania!

  • Excellent article. I loved the learning about synthetics and the development of this line! I completely agree that synthetics are the skeletons to perfumes and it needs a mixture of both. I get so many compliments when I wear Molecule 01 and I look forward to trying this one. Thanks so much for the giveaway and I live in the US! I also liked the Facebook Q&A.

  • Escentric Molecules fragrances I use if I want to prolong the longevity of other perfumes, giving them some woody or fresh twist.
I wonder what kind of twist the 2 new ones will give to my gourmands?
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign. USA

  • “I have a daughter of 3 and a half now who is very present in my life”
I know it’s not fragrance related, but dedicated father’s are rare nowadays.
Geza Schoen I know because of Ormonde Jayne fragrances he created , Escentric Molecules I have never smelled .

What an interview…. this is just a tidbit of I’m sure a whole lot of fragrant talk! Thanks for letting us in on part of the conversation Michelyn. I had already read the interview on 02, 03, and 04, but I refreshed my memory a little since reading the latest. I love hearing from the perfumer about their creations and this was no exception. I love the fact that Geza didn’t really care how many perfumes come out each year, and that his reasoning for the delay (or lack thereof if you ask him) is because of his daughter. Family is without a doubt important and this is definitely a great reason to have some time between fragrances! I have a sample set of all 8 current fragrances from the brand, and I had to bust them out again tonight while reading this interview. I will be exploring them all over again the next couple of days. I am very interested in trying out the new number 05’s…. I will have to get a sample either way! Thank you Michelyn, for the delightful interview and for a glimpse into the mind of a perfumer! Thank you Geza, for sharing with us and for your generosity! This is truly an awesome opportunity! I am definitely grateful, as I am sure many others are as well! Commenting from Delaware, US. Good luck to all!

  • I think my biggest surprise is that it took five years from the Molecules 01 conception to the actual launch — I feel as though it has always been a part of the fragrance world! I live in the U.S. and thanks for the draw!

  • Modell799 says:

I love the idea of a single note fragrance and it’s very interesting to hear Geza’s philosophy on turning these molecules into a more complex offering with the Escentric series. Molecule 01 is one of my favorite scents, both for layering and on its own. Very excited to have a new fragrance from this house. Cheers from Chicago, IL / USA

Please leave a comment regarding what you learned from my interview with Geza on Escentric 05 and Molecule 05 for and where you live. Are you familiar with his other fragrances in the series.

I find interesting his concept that naturals and synthetics should be used as a fusion to bringout the best of both. I am familier with his art, yes. I live in Romania
