Badar Parfums Sandal Rice Review (Margaux Le Paih Guérin) 2025 + Darkly Delicious Giveaway

Badar Parfums Sandal Rice

Badar Parfums and perfumer Margaux Le Pain Guérin of Flair Paris have returned with another beautiful fragrance, Sandal Rice. It’s feels like the yin to Estelle’s yang, giving us a darker woody vanilla with a beautiful savoury rice note as a counter point, while still keeping that sleek suave sensation that runs through Badar Parfums trio of releases. Sandal Rice has a tough yet cosy feel from the rice and woods that run though it, showcasing vanilla in a unique and understated way, letting its woody facets shine. It wears like a soft hug from someone very strong, a quiet power, yet simultaneously feeling graceful and refined.

Sandal Rice’s opening makes my mouth water with its dark coffee aroma giving the caramel a deep slightly charred richness, making it feel deliciously decadent, the kind you want to sink your teeth into and savor. As your enjoying this grown up treat it feels as if sandalwood and rice crash into each other in slow motion creating this dry velvety powdery cloud of woods giving a brilliant savoury counterpoint to Sandal Rice’s darkly delicious caramel vanilla sweetness. The way the powdery dry rice aroma wraps around you is rather lovely; it’s like a soft smoky veil that’s starts out light before descending through coffee into a smoky rich guaiac and creamy sandalwood musky haze. This clever contrasting creates that strong tough yet cosy hug sensation, that’s hard to convey in words, but when you wear it, you will know.

The rich blend of coffee and caramel creates a lush aroma, subtly infused with delicate notes of plum, cherry and dry cacao, all enveloped in a delightful dark, woody haze. Sandal Rice is packed with the complex and subtle aromas you find in specialist drip or pour over coffees. That dark caramel sweetness enhances the experience, accompanied by woody vanillas feeling as if you have added a dry cream into the mix as things soften out in its heart. As this is happening everything is wrapped in Sandal Rice’s dry powdery rice veil, making it feel again like the scent of the coffee has been trapped and atomised becoming part of this beautiful powdery cloudy haze. It seems as though a memory has been stretched out through time and wearing Sandal Rice is letting us explore it on a granular level, as if we’re back at the moment Proust has dipped his Madeline into his tea and time stopped for him. With Sandal Rice Margaux Le Paih Guérin has updated this Proustian experience giving us a rich black coffee with a delicious caramel vanilla on a delicate rice pastry with a soft smoke in the air. There’s a beautiful dry snap to Sandal Rice’s rice as the coffee’s darkness fades letting a smooth dark vanilla heavy on his woody side shine.

In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust

Sandal Rice lives up to its name, enveloping your skin in a sophisticated, powdery aroma of rice and sandalwood, complemented by a rich vanilla that is deepened with the smoky facets of guaiac wood, creating a smooth and alluring fragrance.

Badar Parfums Sandal Rice

It warms your skin in a beguiling way, sitting above it like a soft woody cloud. It feels dense, yet has this silky transparency with ambroxan creating this cosy aura that gives Sandal Rice a beautiful presence. The use of those sweeter materials cleverly masks the more sharp facets of the Australian sandalwood, while focusing in on its milky smooth sensation, the way the material melt from the opening to the end creates a lovely flow with that dry, powdery woody rice aroma keeping everything in balance. The woody side of a Madagascan or bourbon vanilla is amplified giving whispers of that rich sweetness while focusing in on the woods and rice as it wraps you in its embrace. Imagine an atomised sandalwood cloud that feels like your gently caressing the soft nap of velvet. Margaux Le Paih Guérin shows wonderful skill in the way she uses contrasting notes, they flow together as if the sweeter side is playing a beautiful melody over the darker woody rice rhythm, making Sandal Rice sing a rather beautiful and unique song of vanilla and sandalwood. This is one I’ll be wearing a lot.

Notes: Rice, Coffee extract, Australian sandalwood essence, Caramel, Vanilla, Ambroxan, Guaiac essence, Modern woods.

  • J’s review beautifully captures the essence of Sandal Rice, making it feel almost tangible. I’m particularly intrigued by the interplay of dark coffee, caramel, and powdery rice, creating a contrast between strength and softness. The idea of a fragrance that envelops like a ‘strong yet cosy hug’ is captivating, and I can almost imagine the rich, smoky vanilla unfolding on the skin. Margaux Le Paih Guérin’s skill in blending these elements into a seamless, olfactory experience is truly impressive. I would love the chance to experience this unique composition myself. I live in France. Thank you for this generous opportunity!

  • I have never heard a perfume described as having a rice accord, but it sounds both interesting and delicious! Ambroxan and sandalwood are two of my favorite scents, so I imagine this will smell incredible with the addition of coffee, caramel, vanilla and RICE. Kentucky USA

  • Sanda Rice is another gem in the Badar Parfums family: a
darker woody vanilla that is as cozy yet sophisticated with the woody notes, especially with the addition of the Guaiac wood. as highlights and a vanilla that is done in an interesting way; combined with the rice note that is versatile, it lends the scent an earthy, nutty facet that along with the sandalwood, ambroxan and sweetness of caramel, creates a beguiling scent that has a presence on the skin that has a warmth, allure and refinement to it.

    1. What sparked your interest in J’s review of Sandal Rice?
J’s review captivated me with its description of contrasting scent notes—creamy sandalwood, powdery rice, deep coffee, and caramel. I’m especially intrigued by how the fragrance balances sweetness with woody warmth, creating a sensual and enveloping aura. The idea of experiencing Sandal Rice as a “delicate mist of sandalwood and vanilla” makes me eager to try it myself.

    Hi from Poland szczecin

  • Sandal Rice sounds absolutely mesmerizing! The blend of dark coffee, caramel, and that unique powdery rice note creates such a vivid, almost tactile image. I love how J described it as a “soft hug from someone very strong”—that balance of strength and comfort is exactly what I look for in a fragrance. The idea of a smoky, woody vanilla with a savoury twist is so intriguing.

  • Rice! That’s a new one. But sounds interesting especially all the other notes like sandalwood, caramel, vanilla, coffee and obviously to amp it up Ambroxan.
Definitely sounds like it smells very rich and and like a gourmand like scent. The bottle is sleek and beautiful!

  • I’ve been looking for the perfect rice scent and this one sounds great! I love powdery perfumes, but often they can feel too stiff. The likening to a “hug” makes this one sound smooth with just the right amount of powder. The caramel coffee notes are even an added bonus. Classy bottle, too. USA

  • AromaDulce73 says:

Not sure what a rice note is but everything else in this fragrance sounds amazing. Coffee, Caramel & Vanilla with some woods is right up my alley.

Seems like the rice gives it a powdery feel, which I’m not a fan of , but if blended well I’m sure it won’t take away from all the other notes. I’m definitely curious.

The combination of the powdery aroma of rice and sandalwood contrasted with the smoky facets of guaiac wood sounds like a winning combination, and I would love to try this on my own skin. I live in Maryland USA.

  • Ramses Perez says:

I never expected a rice and vanilla fragrance to go so well together, but here we are. Of course there are other elements added to it but a sweetened rice scent is certainly something I have never experienced. It’s almost like a dessert in a way but I don’t get a cube that this is a full on gourmand. I wish I would have known about it sooner as spring is quickly approaching and this one looks more suited for fall/winter but it will still be an amazing scent to wear anyways. Margaux is truly on a roll lately. I’m located in the USA.

  • The concept of blending the “soft creaminess of rice” with the “richness of sandalwood” intrigues me. This combination promises a unique fragrance profile that balances delicate, comforting notes with a deep, luxurious woodiness—an unusual yet appealing pairing that suggests both sophistication and warmth. I live in Poland, EU.

  • I am intrigued by the woody vanilla with the rice note. The description “atomizer sandalwood cloud that feels like you are gentley caressing the soft nap of velvet” makes it sound like a comforting sexy fragrance that I would love to experience. I love vanillas that aren’t too sweet they are some of my favorites. I’m from Mont Clare PA about 40 minutes outside of Philadelphia.

  • I’m not normally drawn to powdery fragrances, but this sounds like another kind of powdery than the usual talc/body powder. The clouds of atomized rice and vanilla, woody dust and caramels with the dark coffee are actually making me drool a bit. Sounds amazing! I live in the US.

  • I never heard of this house before but the notes and description sounds amazing, would love to experience it. I’m from the EU, thanks for the draw.

  • I’ve already encountered this combination of sandal and rice, bit not with notes like Coffee extract and Caramel, so I’m really intrigued by this creation.

What an intriguing review!J’s review was on point with emphasis on what makes this fragrance different. I’ve never had the opportunity to try Badar Parfums, so this would be a beautiful beginning of the journey. What struck me most of the Sandal Rice was the imagery that It wears like a soft hug from someone very strong, a quiet power, yet simultaneously feeling graceful and refined. A brilliant balance between darker woody vanilla with a beautiful savoury rice. It sounds like a fantastic fragrance with an intense and contrasting character. Thank you for the draw!
    Many greetings from Germany EU

  • The notes do sound wonderful here! I am very curious about Sandal Rice. Please count me in! Thank you!

  • Ever since Meo Fusciuni’s Little Song I’ve kept an open mind and eager heart for coffee notes. That perfume is addictive! Just something about it. I have a few fragrances with a rice note and I love them all!! But none have a coffee note paired with it – tea or sandalwood etc but not coffee. So this would be totally unique! I’d love to try it. I am located in the USA.

  • I already love this.
This review is really complete and made me smell this fragrance through the screen. I tried only one reference with the rice note, called “riso” by Jijide and i really appreciate the characteristic powdery and warm smell of this accord.
This, united to slightly gourmand and smooth notes, make me imagine that wearing this fragrance is like to wrap myself in a warm and soft duvet.
Thanks for this giveaway, I’m from Italy.

  • The evocative imagery used to describe Badar Parfums Sandal Rice immediately captured my attention. J’s comparison to “a soft hug from someone very strong, a quiet power, yet simultaneously feeling graceful and refined” perfectly expresses the intriguing balance of strength and gentleness that I find so appealing. J’s description of the opening, with its “dark coffee aroma giving the caramel a deep slightly charred richness, making it feel deliciously decadent, the kind you want to sink your teeth into and savor,” is particularly vivid and makes the fragrance feel almost tangible. Beyond the initial gourmand notes, I’m especially intrigued by the interplay between the rice, sandalwood, and vanilla. The image of the “powdery dry rice aroma wrapping around you like a soft smoky veil” is incredibly evocative. The suggestion of a “Proustian experience,” like “a rich black coffee with a delicious caramel vanilla on a delicate rice pastry with a soft smoke in the air,” adds another layer of intrigue and suggests a fragrance that’s more than just a scent—it’s a journey through memory and sensation. The artistry of perfumer Margaux Le Paih Guérin, balancing sweet and savory notes to create “a beautiful melody over the darker woody rice rhythm,” has me eager to experience Sandal Rice firsthand!

Thank you, J, for the wonderful review, and thank you to Badar Parfums for the generous giveaway. I am located in the USA.

  • I’m in the USA and smoky vanilla always has my interest. Or smoky anything really. And coffee. And sandalwood. This sounds very nice. I’m curious to see how the rice doesn’t get overpowered by these notes.

There’s a saying that good ideas start with brainstorming, but great ideas start with coffee ☕
I have a feeling for all those years Margaux Le Paih Guérin and her teammates at FLAIR had hundreds of such brainstorming moments, and thousands cups of coffee in between , I wonder who came up with the idea of mixing coffee, caramel, plum and sandalwood?!?
My takeaway about J Wearescentient article is the overall sense of heritage and novelty approach blended together to perfection. It appeals to me that Margaux Le Paih Guérin infused into Sandal Rise his own love for coffee, rise and the delicious gourmand aspects.
As a result of her work I’d like to know how the luxury not overly sweet rise pastry dessert called Sandal Rise smells. In light of J Wearescentient review I have no doubt the fragrance is stunning.
    Many thanks , EU
