April Aromatics Coco n’ Amour (Tanja Bochnig) 2023 + Carnal Coconut Giveaway

April Aromatics Coco n’ Amour

April Aromatics Coco n’ Amour

The whole night long I have slept with you
next to the sea, on the island.
You were wild and gentle between pleasure and dreams,
between fire and water.
Perhaps very late
our dreams were united
in the heights or in the depths,
on high like branches moved by the same wind,
down below like red roots touching each other. ~ Night on the Island, Pablo Neruda

Tanja Bochnig Natural perfumer for April Aromatics

Tanja Bochnig of April Aromatics

Award-winning natural perfumer Tanja Bochnig creates fragrances which never cease to delight, from season to season. It has been my pleasure to review many of them over the years, and she continues to move from strength to strength in the process, never settling for anything less than her best effort, reinforced by the finest olfactory materials she can ethically source. I feel strongly about this, and harbor the belief that cutting corners in perfumery rarely leads to anything of quality. This is why – when you pick up a flacon of April Aromatics perfume – you know that it is going to be a thing of beauty.

April Aromatics Coco n’ Amour is the most carnal coconut that I have come across in a considerable length of time. There are no scratchy, rough-edged synthetics employed to create this indolic effect, no loud divas screeching for your attention. What you experience, from the initial spritz – is undeniably true in a photorealistic sense. I confess to having been generally averse to beachy, coconut-driven fragrances in the past because they ring false to my nose; plasticky, even. This isn’t strictly necessary, because natural materials which can produce this effect are readily available (and affordable) – and major fragrance houses have come up with beautiful substitutes and/or additions, if that’s what you’re looking for. Coco n’Amour has made this old sinner a believer, recalcitrant convert that I am.

Best beachy perfumes

Tanja Bochnig on the beach

Tanja Bochnig finds her personal bliss among the islands of the South Pacific – a locus of détente, reverie, and healing. Surrounded by white sand and seawater, how can one be anything but content? It is here where Tanja feels most at ease, and her desire to convey that to us is readily apparent. At the very top, the perfumer’s beloved pink grapefruit is her introduction of choice, followed by her own mélange of lush tropical fruit. Coconut pulp CO2 has made it possible for perfumers to achieve a long-lasting natural creaminess previously not possible; in combination with a rapturous jasmine and sandalwood, seduction is certain. A precious woods accord leaves some things to the imagination, but it wouldn’t surprise me if massoia bark or lactones were included, as they tend to embellish a luxe coconutty feel. Copaiba balsam is a lovely team player which brings a woody balsamic gentleness to the composition, with just a touch of pepper, and it blends happily with many other elements. As for island love and ocean breeze, that must remain a mystery. Only Tanja knows for certain.

  • Coco n’Amour sounds like a glorious fragrance. Opening with fizzy pink grapefruit, ripening into tropical fruit and realistic coconut pulp, then blossoming into luscious jasmine and then drying down into precious woods and balsams. Sounds delightful, and I’m sure it is. I have tried Jasmina and Lost in Roses from April Aromatics and loved both.

  • I would love to give away this perfume, I hate perfumes that smell like coconut!
But a coconut perfume created by Tanja Bochnig, I tell myself that maybe it’s finally the one that will make me completely change my mind because I love everything that Mrs. Bochnig does after all this perfume managed to convince Ida who, too, does not like the usual chemical treatment of coconut: “Coco n’Amour has made this old sinner a believer, recalcitrant convert that I am.” What I love about this brand is the designer’s desire to create natural perfumes that bring well-being and really take care of people’s health. My favorites are Pink wood and Calling all angels. I live in France, EU.

  • What sparked my interest about Coco n’ Amour from Ida’s review is the use of coconut pulp CO2 which I’ve never heard of and the possibility of ingredients like massoia bark or lactones which might have been used which can give a luxe coconutty feel. I’ve never tried any April Aromatics perfume. Thank you for the opportunity. From New York, USA.

  • You had me intrigued at the most carnal coconut. Photo realistic non synthetic, creaminess from the coconut and jasmine and Sandalwood to seduce. The fragrance sounds very tropical and lovely. I haven’t tried any April’s Aromatics perfumes yet.

  • It’s not a fierce winter where I am yet, but I could still use a tropical getaway and some saltwater healing! Grapefruit, coconut, and copaiba sounds lovely. I haven’t had the opportunity to try any April Aromatics fragrances yet but keep hearing good things. Located in West Virginia, USA.

Thank you for this review! Loved the Neruda quote, it got me into the atmosphere. This really sounds like a hit. For sure wanting to know how island love and ocean breeze smell like. <3 I also used to be an old sinner, but lately I got into the coconut dream (starting with the gourmand part). I'm currently residing in Romania, Europe

  • Please don’t enter me in the draw, I am just wanting to compliment Ida on another fantastic review. The addition of the Isak Dineseri quote is incredible! And Tanja Bochnig, beautiful creation in the glorious Coco n’Amour. Usually, coconut smells so false to quote Ida here. My bottle of Coco n’Amour is creamy dreamy and there is nothing plasticky about it!

  • scratchy, rough-edged synthetics sound captivating, this scent full of coconut must be an amazing experience. That really sparked my interest. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU. I don’t have a favorite April Aromatics perfume because I never tried the house, I’d love this scent for surex the notes are magnificent.

Hello from Florida, and thank you to Ida for the review!

I love April Aromatics’ scents — my favorite is Agartha. Though I don’t find myself drawn to overtly lactonic scents most of the time, this seems like a unique and sensual take on coconut. I’d love to give Coco n’Amour a try!

  • Karen Ruano says:

I love me a good coconut fragrance especially one with a tropical twist to it and this has both! It feel like it would be balanced and not too sweet with the addition of the balsam. I have not had the pleasure of trying any other fragrances from this brand! I live in NJ

  • I am quite intrigued by Ida’s review of Coco n Amour! I’m already a fan of Tanja Bochnig’s Calling All Angels, and have been hoping to delve deeper into April Aromatics offerings. I have also been on the hunt for an elevated, natural coconut driven scent, woody and lactonic, with no sharp edges, and this sounds like it just might be the one
Thanks so much for the review, and the opportunity!

  • I also think that sea/ocean water is cure for your body and soul. Beautiful review by Ida! Coco n’ Amour seems to captivate with its true-to-life coconut note and lush tropical elements. The blend of ingredients like coconut pulp CO2, jasmine, and sandalwood combined with a beachy inspiration makes it intriguing and appealing for me as a tropical scents lover. The idea of a tropical escape in a perfume is certainly appealing, especially for those yearning for a getaway during colder seasons.
I didn’t try many perfumes by April Aromatics unfortunately, but Calling All Angels absolutely captivated me when I first sniffed it.

I am from the EU (Germany).

  • Well I too love a good grapefruit opening so I get the attraction. And of course a wonderful coconut tropical scent made from quality material is perfect vacation from this chilly fall. In maryland.

  • Interest sparked by the reviewers line, “…the most carnal coconut that I have come across in a considerable length of time”. I have no house favorite. US

  • Thank you for mentioning the rose Tanja created for Tama.

And thanks for the draw opportunity. I’m intrigued by Ida’s mention of detecting something lactonic that seems like massoia. An April Aromatics scent I enjoyed is Rose L’Orange.

    I live in the US.

  • I love coconut, but also hate suntan lotion scents, so I’m glad the hear this one is using natural ingredients. I do not have a favorite April Aromatics, but I may need to find a sample of this one to try. I’m in the us.

Thank you for your review, Ida.
I can relate to you, because I also had a long lasting dislike of fake coconut scents and tastes. Never had any problems eating a real coconut or drinking coconut water. But anything coconut flavoured I always really disliked. The first fragrance I really enjoyed that has a prominent coconut note was Francesca Bianchi’s Sex and the Sea Neroli. Since you describe Coco n’ Amour as very realistic, this maybe could also be something that i like.
Thank you for the opportunity to win a travel bottle.
    Greetings from the EU

  • Oh, Coco n ‘Amour sounds lovely especially with Ida’s designation as the most carnal coconut fragrance she has encountered. I appreciate that Tanja Bochnig accomplishes this with natural ingredients. The coconut CO2 pulp seems like the essence of coconut. Pairing it with woods, tropical fruits and jasmine absolute is a vacation to Bali. I’m in the US.

  • Natural fragrances are always interesting, especially if the perfumer sources unique materials and finds a way to give them longevity. Or in the case of Coco n’ Amour, making a coconut perfume that doesn’t smell like chemical sunscreen. I’m particularly intrigued by the creamy Coconut pulp CO2 used here. Coco n’ Amour sounds like an unusually wearable coconut perfume and a fun tropical respite from crummy weather.

I’m in the USA. I haven’t tried any April Aromatics perfumes.

  • Gosh, this sounds like a lovely fragrance!
I actually spent my honeymoon in Tahiti, decades ago.
Pink grapefruit, a ‘mélange of lush tropical fruit’, followed by flowers, coconut and creamy woods. What more could you ask for in a tropical getaway?
And, I can’t wait to experience her version of ‘island love and ocean breeze’!
Thank you for the drawing. I am in the US.

  • I am not usually a fan of coconut in fragrance, but this article makes me think there just might be a coconut fragrance for me. Yes, the cure is salt water, preferably in the ocean. So kind of Tanja to create the San Francisco Rose. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • Wow, if this perfume has note of massoia wood/lactone, then please sign me up! I am not a fan of coconut fragrances, I think at some point we all have bad experience with synthetic tropic fragrances. But April Aromatics is something just the opposite – natural and pleasant.
I want to take part in this, I am in the EU!
Thank you for introducing us with Coco n’Amour and for the draw!

  • I have been fortunate enough to experience some of April Aromatic’s fragrances over the years. I owned the joyful Tempted Muse and the sensual Nectar of Love and both were delightful companions.
Even though I can’t say I’m exactly averse to Coconut fragrances, it’s undeniable that we are saturated with Coconut-y/sun tan fragrances and beauty products.
I couldn’t be more excited to try out the most carnal of coconut recreations.
Many thanks for the draw. I live in France, the EU.

  • Like Ida, I also tend to be averse to cloying coconut scents. But this one sounds absolutely transportative in the way the best natural perfumes can be. I would love to experience how the Coconut pulp CO2 plays with the jasmine absolute, sandalwood, and precious woods accord!

    Best wishes from the US!

  • Great review by Ida, as always.
April Aromatics looks like a fantastic fragrance house and Coco nAmour is the reflect of it.
I am a huge coconut lover in fragrances and I love realictic coconut and this one looks like a fantastic alternative. The pink grapefruit also adds to this amazing aroma.
I would love to try this one soon.
    USA here.

  • This new coconut fragrance sounds divine! As the darkness of winter creeps closer, I’m craving something to remind me of the light and warmth of summer in the coming months. Coco n’ Amour sounds like the perfect way to do it. I love April Aromatics Vanilicious, Bohemian Spice, and Calling All Angels and would love to try this new one. Thank you for doing this draw! I’m in Madison, Wisconsin, USA

  • What sparked my interest about Coco n’ Amour from Ida’s review is the photorealistic sense of fragrance and the point Ida says is the most carnal coconut she has come across. I have never tried any perfume from April Aromatics , so I don’t have a favorite. I’m from Greece, EU

  • Coconut, sandalwood and jasmine absolute do feel like a small haven of tropical bliss in the upcoming winter.
Thanks for the giveaway and good luck everyone!

  • The combination of coconut and tropical fruits from Coco n’Amour intrigued me. I have not tried any perfume from this house. Im from Europe

  • I am very excited about Coco n amour because we have the opportunity in October for a tropical escape from the pressure of everyday life!!!!! The words of Pablo Neruda perfectly express my feelings!!!!! I don’t have a favorite perfume because I haven’t tried any perfume by April Aromatics. I live in Greece, EU

Thanks for the great review! I’ve been meaning to check this brand out for a while.

Absolutely enjoyed reading about this fragrance, as winter and darker days are closing all around us. What is better than the notion of island breezes, salt water and the sun kissed sweetness of coconut?

    Cheers from WI, USA
