Meditation, stockcake

Hiking through the Tibetan Plateau along the southern branches of the Silk Road, known to locals as the Tea Horse Road, one comes to understand the essential human need for the warmth of the sun. Larch, pine, and spruce trees growing on mountain edges catch precious solar radiation and generate heavenly scents of woodgrain. These toasty exhalations shimmering through the thin alpine air were a lifeline of comfort during our travels. How can you capture the feeling of sun on woods? Independent perfumer Spyros Drosopoulos and Creative Director Tanja Deurloo have collaborated to explore just this question. Annindriya Seekwood is the skilled and joyful result of their project.

As the morning sun gently warms the woods, Annindriya Seekwood effortlessly guides me into a brand-new day. Wearing this fragrance is the scent equivalent of a luxury clock that slowly eases you from sleep and into consciousness with carefully calibrated light and soft-toned chimes. Sunkissed and sophisticated orange flower opens the perfume with a honeyed floralcy that leans in a beeswax direction speckled with citrus inflections of wintergreen and vanilla. That same honeyed floralcy is matched with osmanthus, its fruity animalic layers of apricot, suede and cream adding body and depth.

The heart of Seekwood is carefree and uplifting. Sandalwood’s warm and lactonic aspects begin their full and rich journey on my skin. Hints of spice in the black pepper direction merge with a subtle energy as myrrh and saffron combine in a sensual heat. Spyros sources his saffron from Greece, the country where his father was born and where he spends his summers. The natural voluptuousness of real saffron, a rare and precious spice also known as ‘red gold,’ is warm, spicy, honeyed, floral, and suede-like.

Annindriya Seekwood lasts on my skin all day and well into the night. The dry down is a meditative mix of sandalwood, papyrus, and cedar. The deep, woody and creamy sandalwood material in this fragrance is Santalol, an alternative to endangered sandalwood oil produced with sustainable cutting-edge fermentation technology. Papyrus adds a dryly aromatic woodiness with earthy and leathery nuance. Cedar is a natural pairing to sandalwood with its dusty and woody strength supported by smoky aspects. Annindriya Seekwood captures the feeling of woods warmed by the sunlight, radiating heat into cold mountain air. The experience of this scent is elegant and meditative at the same time, warming body and soul.

Notes: orange flower, osmanthus, saffron, myrrh, papyrus, Santalol (sandalwood), cedar

  • Nice review from Rachel, interesting how the Annindriya Seekwood fragrance depicts serenity, the gentle citrus and the subtle woody notes mixed with saffron, it sounds wonderful, just like a relaxing peaceful walk in the woods, i’d love to smell it

  • Annindriya’s collaboration with Spyros Drosopoulos and Tanja Deurloo in creating Seekwood sounds absolutely captivating. The concept of Sun-Warmed Woods immediately evokes a sense of serenity and connection with nature, which I find deeply inspiring. As a fan of artistic and evocative fragrances, I would be thrilled to experience this creation. Thank you for the opportunity to enter this generous giveaway and discover the beauty of Seekwood! My choice for shipping, should I be lucky, is Europe, Romania.

  • I love this idea of capturing the warmth of the sun on wood sounds so unique and comforting. I’m especially drawn to the combination of saffron, sandalwood, and osmanthus—honeyed, creamy, and slightly spicy all at once? That sounds like perfection. Plus, the sustainable Santalol twist is such a cool detail. It seems like the kind of scent that could be both grounding and uplifting. Definitely adding this to my must-try list!

  • At this time of year when we get up in the dark and drive home from work in the dark, sunshine on trees sounds like a scent I truly want to have with me. I also love that the sandalwood note is synthetic to spare endangered species. I wish more accords were used for that purpose too (rosewood, I’m looking at you: I love you, but you are endangered…where’s the good substitute?) I live in the US.

  • Such a meditative scent! Rachel did a great job drawing this picture quite clearly in my head of what this scent will most likely smell like. Scent truly connects different people through shared ingredients and scent memories. I love that this scent melds aromatic, woody, and creamy together that is preluded by this bright liveliness from the orange flower, osmanthus and sweetness of myrrh. Rachel’s take on this house just makes me want to try them out even more! From Oregon, USA

Oh my heavens, this must be something so extraordinary, I have to give this a sniff and wear. I’m in love with how this composition is described and it’s inspiration is a breathtaking one. I love many different forms of woods in my fragrances, but papyrus, sandalwood, and cedar strike me as a winning combination. This will be the first scent of the year I’m adding to my ever-growing must-try list. I live in Oregon.

  • The use of santalol, a sustainable alternative to sandalwood oil, is fascinating. It’s derived from renewable resources and captures the essence of sandalwood without harming endangered trees, I personally find this really beautiful and beneficial. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

  • Gorgeous photos. Honeyed beeswax with those floral notes on that base of sandalwood…..yes please. Love that it is long lasting. That is nice that the saffron is sourced from Greece, they know what to do with that as far as cooking that’s for sure. I’d love to have this warm my body and soul this winter. Thanks for the chance to win this. USA.

I am very interested in the meditative aspect of this fragrance: meditative fragrance blending sandalwood, Greek saffron, and woody notes, evoking sunlit woods with lasting elegance.

We’ve experienced solar fragrances, we’ve experienced woodsy fragrances, however the specific (and very common) event of the sun hitting woods is new territory. If I were to imagine that event, it’ll smell like woods with a touch of tropical or maybe even warm notes but this fragrance took a different route. Using santalol and saffron, it adds a more nuanced touch and leaves it more to the wearer to decide which flavor they will get. It’s as if you’re walking through the woods and the sun hitting the trees around you have a smell that accompanies you all day. Very interesting concept. I’m located in the US

  • As an orange flower fan, my interest is always sparked when I see this particular note in the fragrance olfactory pyramid.
I think in Seekwood it strays a bit from the clean side to the warmer hues, merging with the woodsy notes and contributing to the contrast mentioned by Rachael, of wood warmth and cold air.
Thank you for the review & the deaw, from EU.

  • Seekwood sounds really nice! Id heard of the brand because of Orris Soyeux which I very much want to try, but discovering this scent from the brand is another that sounds like I’d enjoy it a lot with the floral top complexity and warmth of myrrh and real Greek saffron, and the milky sandalwood and woody drydown, all sounds like a wonderful wear. Thanks for the generous draw, from the US.

  • Great review! I loved the sustainability concept of the fragrance by incorporating santalol, produced through eco-friendly fermentation technology, eliminating the need to harvest endangered sandalwood trees. Additionally, the use of natural Greek saffron, a rare and precious spice, adds depth and richness to the composition.

  • Nice review Rachel! I agree 100% with the human need for the warmth of the sun, not just for heating but for uplifting our mood and vital tone. Seekwood from Annindriya Seekwood wants to capture the feeling of woods warmed by the sunlight and guide us into a new careless living day while camping in the woods. the green citrusy of orange flower to awake, the yawn of awakening with osmanthus and vanilla. Very interesting the use of santalol, a bio-based molecule from renewable resources to interpret the heart note of sandalwood oil and the mix with the very natural saffron one from Greece. As Spanish, saffron is part of our culture, mainly in the kitchen and I love its smell. I live in Spain, EU.

  • This review creates a vivid sensory and emotional journey.
The connection to the perfumer’s Greek heritage, particularly through the use of saffron, adds a personal and authentic touch, enriching the story behind the scent.
I also really appreciate the focus on sustainability, especially through the use of Santalol as an ethical alternative to sandalwood, reflects modern values and environmental consciousness, enhancing the fragrance’s appeal. The complexity of the notes conveys a sophisticated and multifaceted composition that intrigues anyone who appreciates nuanced perfumes. Additionally, the emphasis on the fragrance’s warmth, elegance, and meditative quality suggests it offers not just a scent, but a deeply emotive and mood-enhancing experience.

  • Oh, this sounds very very interesting!!
Orange flower, osmanthus, saffron, santalol… I simply must try it!

What additionally sparks my interest is how it lasts on skin all day and well into the night, how it captures the feeling of woods warmed by the sunlight, radiating heat into cold mountain air, meditative at the same time, warming body and soul.
