It is always a pleasure to meet up with Tom Crutchfield of Annick Goutal.
He is beloved by SA’s all over the country, and with good reason.
Highly intelligent, natty as a jenny wren, and extremely well informed,
Tom was as eager to show me the three new exclusive launches as I was to sniff them.
These rose eau parfumees are limited editions, and when they’re gone- they’re gone.
Quel Amour! is even more beautiful- well-rounded, deliciously fruity, and luminous than before; Rose Absolue maintains its exquisite Bulgarian rose that stops the heart.
But Rose Splendide was the one I took home; I had to.
Tom explained to me that Annick Goutal was always obsessed with how a rose tasted of pear, and why a pear smelled like a rose.
This trio, Rose So Chic, was released in loving remembrance of Annick’s battle with cancer, and her lifetime love affair with the rose.
Rose Splendide is the fragrance which infuses all AG’s creamy skin care products.
Rose de Mai is queen here; her verdant freshness is complimented by pear and magnolia.
Musky vanillic whispers accompany all this restorative, green floralcy.
The overall effect is a gorgeously grassy one.
Much like the month of June in the musical Carousel, the initial blast of grassy rose ‘busts out all over ‘; it’s a veritable powerhouse.
One needs to wait awhile, because once the grass settles, all sorts of subtleties appear…
It feels very like a rosy chypre on my skin.
Oh so mossy and musky and very delicious indeed.
No cloying here.
As a ‘perfumed water’, the longevity is not its selling point, as you can imagine.
It is transparent; I’d easily spray it onto clothing in order to elongate my pleasure…you might, too.
It’s wonderful on the pillow.
It’s wonderful anywhere, period.
