The Different Company’s new fragrance Santo Incienso Sillage Sacre by Perfumer Alexandra Monet captures the “The Mystic, sensual, eternal…Incense and Myrrh facets on a sacred wood structure, the Palo Santo, a mystical composition that captivates just like the shaman’s poem. A perfume with mystic notes like a prayer to the sky, reinterpret “per fumare” likes an echo to the origins of perfume, when it was burnt as a gift to the gods. Alexandra Monet was inspired by Palo Santo and used each symbolic aspect of this wood."Mme. Monet says “I like the idea that we have to burn Palo Santo in order to reveal its scent. I’ve created this fragrance combining Myrrh and Incense with Atlas cedar, Nutmeg and Calabre Bergamot in order to bring its freshness and contrast”
Palo Santo from South America wikipedia
As many of our readers have learned from following CaFleureBon's Seventh Year Multi-Perfumer Collaboration Project Talisman, Palo Santo has been used for millennia for its spiritual properties, as incense to ward off evil spirits, and in shamanic practices. This divine tree grows in dry earth, which gives it its power, but it needs more than two years, laying down on the ground, to fully release its properties. The tradition requires not cutting the tree and letting it die and fall down. Today in South America, especially in Ecuador, it is forbidden to cut a Palo Santo tree, which became a protected species.
